You have to go to the isle in Inkgill Mere, the lake where you killed sha in the previous quest.
When you arrive, you will see a npc in the middle, with a shield and a few Explosive Sha around him.
Kill the sha, while standing close to him. After around 4 shas, he should die.

When Shai Hu goes immune, grab a nearby Explosive Hatred, drag it into the bubble and kill it.

Interestingly, Shai Hu does not reset to full life if you stop the fight by means of Shadowmeld (I'm assuming Vanish and Feign Death will work the same way).

I shadowmelded in midfight and moved to a nearby rock, then tabbed out to check Wowhead on how to remove the shield. When I tabbed back in, he was still there, not aggroed but still at half-life and with his shield up.

Shai Hu will shield himself making himself immune to all damage. Kill the black sha creatures around him and this will cause him to lower the shield so you can kill him.

It is not necessary to wait for Shai Hu to go immune and then drag explosive sha into his shield. Another way to complete this quest (for a paladin and, I assume, for any other class with good AOE attacks) is to aggro about four or more of the explosive sha as you approach Shai Hu then his shield will not even go up and the kill becomes just a normal tank and spank with your AOEs to kill sha/damage Shai Hu and other attacks for more damage to Shai Hu.
I did it this way by chance/accident and Shai Hu went down like a skittle. Hope this helps :)

Yeah maybe it works if not somebody else takes him out first....

i had him up to 41% and then the shield came and i didnt know what to do, did what you ppl did, when i got back he was dead... somebody else took him out... have to start over again

Dang, why is it on some of these quests, I have to pop up this site in the middle of the fight to figure out how to finish it? Good thing I've got two monitors.. Yeah, when the Shai puts up the shield, to after a Explosive Hatred and kill it. The Shai then drops his shield.

Just adding this here. While trying to do the quest, I noticed that the Explosive Hatred will do damage to this Quest Mob when they die near him, as well as causing his shield to drop.

I thought it would be easy to round up all the explosive mobs around him and just aoe them down, killing him in the process. Problem is, doing it that way won''t cause the quest to complete. Tried it twice like that.

You must strike the killing blow yourself to get credit for completing the quest. So, if you can aoe tank/grind/dps, grab four Explosive Hatred and aoe them down near him then finish him off yourself.

I can confirm that you don't need to wait for Sha Hu to go immune or anything, on my lvl 88 Fury Warrior, once I hit the beach, I ran through 4 of the little devils (Explosive Hatreds) to aggro them (kite them in), then ran to him, hit Battle Shout to gen some rage, then hit Bladestorm... before I was done spinning, all were dead and I was "work complete"... awesome! I'm sure that any good AOE will work, just make sure to target him and actively hit him.

When I get there he is already shielded and I cannot get it down no matter how many Ex-Sha I kill...sigh...Might be bugged

I got the Agility wrists. You will keep these for awhile. Better than any dungeon item until 90.

not too hard once i got the hang of it.

you kill a couple of explosives before you start on shai just so you can run to him but not bring any with you.

when you run to him, run thru him so he is between you and a none aggroed explosive.

dps him down till the bubble comes up.

then range aggro one of the explosives, pull it inside the bubble but have shai between you. dps the explosive down. just killing one will take shai way down

when the bubble comes down, he is vulnerable and won't have much health, just finish him

if you pull too many explosives and they kill him you won't get credit for killing him, so try and do it with just one

To kill Shai Hu you must pull one Enraged Hatred inside his shield and kill that before you may kill Shai Hu. Doing this will remove his shield.

So I'm thinking you have to strike the killing blow. You're pet can't do it. In fact, you may want to dismiss you pet altogether rather than just go passive like I did 10 times. The Hatreds can't do it. I killed this guy every way possible and got no credit. I dropped the quest, picked it back up, killed him with my pet dismissed and finally got credit. I'm not sure if it was dismissing the pet or dropping the quest that did it. I'm sorry;+ I should have only changed one variable at a time but I was getting frustrated. I think the quest might be buggy.

Seems silly after dieing twice, but as a mage, walk raight in and stand next to him pulling a couple of shadows with you. then use Arcane explosion a couple of time and down he goes.

For some reason, I completed the quest, but didn't receive credit in my quest log. Went back to the quest giver and was able to turn it in.

I know this is an old thread. And I am greatful for all of the helpful posts. But damn, why does Blizzard have to make it that difficult to make us go here in the middle of a fight to see what to do? I am just venting, but geeeze! That said, it was still a pretty clever quest. But we could have had a hint!

The Fall of Shai Hu

Defeat Shai Hu. He can be found at the Waterspeaker's Sanctuary, the island in the center of Inkgill Mere in Kun-Lai Summit.

Description

I can hear the voice of the Mere - it has been purified. But, this chapter in my people's history will never be closed - not until we defeat Shai Hu. He has retreated to the central island in the Mere, corrupting our holiest of sites. Beware - he is strong. But, after all we have done, I am confident we will be stronger.
