Bottom line, the "shroud" that you use to make yourself invisible doesn't mean you can run around without worry. You still need to be completely mindful of the mobs in the area. Did this as a warlock and I figured that I should dismiss my demon before even starting. Instead I opted to put my pet in a safe spot using "move to". I didn't want to take the chance. I'd suggest hunters do the same. This actually saved me a couple of times as the mobs DO sense movement and that stupid dragon can see you from a long ways away even if you aren't moving.

When I'd get targeted, then I would sick my demon on them and run. All of the mobs in the area are elite with about 230,000+ health. The dragon of course has 2.3 million health.

Definitely a pain in the neck quest and not a very fun one. This may change at some point, but as of right now ... 4 weeks before cata goes live, this quest is quite annoying.

The dragon flying around WILL see through your cloak and aggro from very far.

"Cloak" is not invis at all, it is in fact stealth, and the level 85 elites will see you if you wander too close.

The area is surrounded by a wall you can't jump over, but it is possible to run far away for them to leash if you try very hard, or you can just die, the graveyard is very close.

Hunters should note that Myzerian (the black dragon in the center) sees through Feign Death. If you aggro him, just find a good place to park your corpse instead of trying to be tricky.

Also note that if the dragon ticks you off to the point of nerdrage, you can come back after this quest and collect his head for a few gems as a reward.

Worst quest in Cata so far. The shroud is not worth much and the patrolling dragon sees through it from a mile, I think I died about 5 times.

A little trick I discovered while doing this quest on my warrior. The dragon will aggro through the cloak, but if you slightly tap your forward key, the elites will not aggro you, allowing you to fly in, cloak, move to destroy, mount and fly out and take little damage. When you fly in, just make sure you don't aggro otherwise you will not be able to get it to work.

The dragon paths counter-clockwise around the obelisk. He has a wide detection range. Don't push your luck. You are crunchy and delicious with ketchup.
The cloak takes approximately 3 seconds to activate, and does you absolutely no good if a mob already has aggro on you. If you get spotted, run like hell and use every escape ability at your disposal.
The cloak's stealth effect has a brief duration (~ 2 minutes). Keep an eye on the buff timer and retreat to a safe spot before you become visible.
Try to look for powder kegs away from the elite guards, or from which their backs are turned. You can recon the kegs from the air to minimize exposure when on the ground.
The elites have approximately 230k health, and hit fairly hard.
As said previously, it's a good idea to dismiss pets or place them out of harm's way to prevent them from giving you away.
On the seventh keg, it immediately switches to the cutscene. You can pick a relatively risky keg as a result.

Tips for some rogues:

1: Stay near the edge
2: Take your time
3: You can stealth without losing the shroud buff. Not sure if they stack, but at the very least with your own stealth you can sap the troopers to make it easier.
4: Make sure the dragon is facing away from you. If it's anything like normal stealth, his detection range is shorter behind him.

This quest is easy if one has patience. 84 destro lock and dismissed pet. Set up a landing zone at 40.58, 20.57 with portal. Maintained safe distance on other side of the aquaduct and hovered on drake waiting for keg to respawn which appears to be on a 6 minute timer - however, some kegs immediately respawned after acquisition. The keg I chose was between the tent and the strapped down barrel on the wagon, which was my path to use. Landed at said coords, enabled stealth and walked into proximity to keg and clicked on cog at first opportunity. Portaled back to landing zone and summoned drake, rinse and repeat. Also summoned drake immediately after collecting keg so non-locks can safely do this method as well. Hope this helps.

Pretty annoying quests, but here are some useful tips:
1) Hunters, mages, DK's (any class with a pet) should probably dismiss their pets first. They will aggro anything
2) The large dragon has a very large aggro radius even with the Shroud on and the only way I found how to live when being spotted by her was to frost trap and run for my life because FD doesn't work
3) Campfires will be your downfall if you are dumb enough to take damage from them
4) The kegs are usually next to tents so just slip up behind the elites and do your work

this is what should be said from the quest giver. He you can use this too cloak but you cant move too fast and the dragon can see you from 6 miles away if you are cloaked but only 3 miles if you aren't. best of luck

This is a great quest to do naked if you're in questing gear. Your birthday suit doesn't mean you die any more than you would with gear on, but it does mean you have a cheaper repair bill. Plus, watching the cinematic as you run away naked makes the whole thing somehow more epic :)

One note: you can 'sabotage' from decently far away, compared to some 'interact' abilities.

How to not aggro the mobs (except dragon):
When shrouded, hit your "/" key on your numberpad. This will cause you to walk, which will allow you to get closer to the mobs without aggroing them. As for the Dragon, I had to wait until he passed before moving in on some kegs.

Took me a couple deaths to figure it out.

This quest is all about patience. I found some of the earlier advice given especially helpful

1. If you have a pet then dismiss it. I had a water elemental and I learned the hard way :(
2. Scout the area for the best (easiest) kegs on your flying. I liked the ones around the tents grouped in 3s.
3. Stand toward the edge of the wall and wait for the dragon to pass. When it's safe use the shroud.
4. Walk toward the closest of the 3 kegs and sabotage, then move on to the other two. You can stand behind the tent and still "reach" it in most cases.
5. After you're done with those three, walk out to the edge again and get on your flying mount. Spot another group and repeat.

You should have about 55 sec until you're cloak disperses if you do it quickly and you can avoid getting killed.

You could also just choose the easiest ones to get to (with fewest guards closest to the edge) and go in and out.

The key is to go in quickly, get out quickly. Rinse and repeat.
You're not supposed to get all 7 in 1 charge.

I actually was able to get all 7 without dying once. (I can haz achievement?)

Don't get me wrong, I did aggro 2 or 3 times, but I (85 mage) called out my images and used my invisibility and GTFO, haha. Had to wait for cool downs, didn't want to risk it. Patience and timing are needed here.

Basically, I was able to get them from the corners. (The furthest corner out has 3-5 that you can grab in less than 2 minutes, but that last one was my 7th total.) Watched out for the dragon and kept an eye on the guards while whispering "Oh god, don't aggro, don'taggrodon'taggro." 7th barrel moves to cutscene, so when grabbing that 7th one, just know you'll be fine (as long as you don't aggro).

I just did this and there are no regular troops in the compound anymore; it's completely populated by elite (lvl 85) mobs now. I got it on my third try; it took a moment to realize that the cloak is pretty much garbage. However, it's necessary garbage.

There are three keys to this mission:

The West Side of the area
The walk (/) key
Patience

The west side of the compound has the lightest concentration of elite mobs in the area, so that is where you want to go. You time your sorties into the area just after Myzerian passes. The moment he passes your spot, you fly in, land on the stone part of the canal closest to the compound, dismount, stealth, and then jump into the area.

At that point, hit the slash key on your number-pad so you are walking, not running, and move to one of the powder kegs, making sure to keep your distance as much as possible for the elites. Once you've done one keg, turn around walk about halfway back, then summon your flying mount and take off like Naris mentioned above.

Rinse and repeat...I did this the third time and I didn't alert a single mob; in and out like a duck mating....

I found that if I flew to a bit behind the dragon that gave me lots of time to get a barrel. I also targeted outer barrels as much as possible...so here's what I did:

1. Fly to a bit behind the dragon (staying out of aggro range)
2. Find a barrel on the outer edge
3. Land somewhere near the barrel that is safely out of trooper aggro range
4. Use the cloak
5. sneak up to the barrel to click on it, making a wide circle around the guards
6. get back out a little ways
7. mount up and fly
8. go to step 1 and repeat

As some already have pointed out this quest can be done without dying or once aggroing a single mob.

1. At the sides of the obelisk in the middle you can safely land mounted without aggroing.
2. Make sure the dragon is on the other side of the square before you shroud yourself.
3. Sabotage the closest one or two kegs then run out (still shrouded).
4. Fly to the other side of the square and make sure the dragon is on the side opposite of yourself.
5. Sabotage one or two more kegs.
6. Rince and repeat!

Quest complete and coin purse still full.

Was able to complete this without using the quest supplied shroud device at a Mut Rogue. Technique:

1. Scout barrels
2. Wait 'til dragon pats by.
3. Fly over inner moat wall, hit stealth and float to ground (Glyph of Safe Fall), make sure auto-dismount checked from interface!
4. Stealth to barrel, activate, Vanish, run away.
5. Wait for Vanish CD, repeat.

It is possible to capitalize on other toons aggroing mobs as they attempt this. When the dragon or NPC's go after them, it is a perfect time for you to reach a barrel!

the best way to complete this is check out where the barrels are, where the dragon is (stay behind it)
land (away from the mobs but close to the barrel) click the "/" on your number pad (to make you walk slow and use your "shroud". get as close to the barrel as you can, and then immediatley mount and fly away...repeat and do over....simple!

My advice is to scout the area (staying away from the dragon of course) and see where the kegs are that aren't too close to anyone. Expect to die during this quest. Over and over again. Repair bill is a b**** fyi.

After I learned the hard way about dismissing my pet, I got through the other 6 Barrels with no problem.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but it really wasn't that hard guys.

Knowing how this device works can save you a lot of frustration. Just keep in mind that this isn't your typical rogue-stealth. If you try to pass any enemies in front of them - you will get spotted. It's meant to work out of their line of sight, so you can go as close as you like if you just stay behind them.

The Shroud in this quest functions basically as a rogue stealth of a few levels above the elite guard mobs. Rogues will get how to use this, but other classes should be aware of basic stealth mechanics.

Note that these tips are entirely exclusive of the dragon-sees-through-Shroud mechanic. If you don't see the dragon's arse flying away from you, hide on a wall until it is. The mechanics below apply generally to the dragon except as if the dragon was about 1000 levels above you :).

Also note that this is a really brief summary of stealth and there are a few details that aren't important to this quest. I only mention it to deflect the probably-inevitable "Tof, I am a level 85 uber rogue who has stealthed successfully up to Kil'jaeden and pickpocketed his watch and I am outraged that you forgot about..." replies.

Stealth 101, or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Shroud

Stealth isn't invisibility. It's a limited sorta-invisibility effect that stops mobs from aggroing you as long as they do not notice you stealthing around. Mobs can notice you stealthing if you are standing in front of them, and that means anywhere in the 180 degree arc in front of them -- that is, if you're 5 yards off their left shoulder, but you're slightly on their front side, you're in that arc and they can notice you. Each mob has a certain range in which they can notice you in stealth, determined by their level and yours. A level 80 stealthing around level 85s will have the possibility of being seen 30 or more yards out. A level 85 stealthing around level 80s probably can't be detected except within around 10 yards. The Shroud seems to effectively increase your level for the purposes on this calculation, so unless you get within about 5 yards of the front arc of a guard, you probably won't get seen.

Also note that there is a certain range around any mob, even a level 1, in which they will see you in stealth. This is a very small range, usually about the width of your character. It means that if you run through or right next to the enemy, they see you instantly regardless of arc or level.

If a mob notices you stealthing, there are two possible results: (1) your stealth is broken and you get aggroed as normal. In this quest, this means you die, since you probably have 2 or 3 85+ that hit like trucks shooting at you. (2) The mob turns towards you but you remain stealthed. You can stand still and hope they turn away after a bit, or you can back away slowly. As a rogue, this is where I tend to use Distract :).

If you keep the front-arc thing in mind while being mindful of range, this quest shouldn't be much of a problem. And watch that damn dragon!

There is hope for those of you who are reading all of these negative comments.

Get to the west side of the camp, that is where I found the easiest route. Go to one of the sides, click your quest item 'Shroud of the Makers' and ease around all the mobs. If you've played a rogue, it's as if you're going to 'sap' someone, in a very s n e a k y manner, click the charges.

Be patient, and you'll get it. Avoid the big red dragon (Myzerian) - he can see through your cloak, and yes, he will pwn you!

I didn't bother with the cloak after I realized it wasn't flat out invisibility. I began killing them normally, but it took forever because I needed to wait for the dragon pat. Eventually I resorted to crowd controlling the elites, sabotaging the kegs, and kiting out of the dragon's path. Most classes should be able to crowd control or distract with a pet, and if you're unable to kill the elites, you can leash them.

The dragon is surprisingly not immune to fear and horror, which should make escaping easier.

It's really easy if you're a Priest @ 85 and can remember to use Mide Soothe. Just fly around on your mount finding the least guarded barrels and start spamming.

As a priest, I found that you can do this quest fairly close to how it was intended. If you back a little ways away from the mobs closest to the barrels and use mind soothe, then reapply your cloak. You can get right up on them and actually click the barrel without being immediately seen and attacked. I managed to do the quest with no deaths, while people on my server were still complaining about the shroud not working properly. Hope this helps at least a few of you finish it before blizz finally fixes it.

The dragon and the elite troops can't "see" beyond the edge of the perimeter canals, so using a flying mount hover over the canals at the edge, locate a keg and a route through the elites, wait for the dragon to fly past, and then shroud yourself, and get in there.

After sabotaging a keg, get out to a safe distance, mount and fly up and away again. I only died once when I mistimed a dragon flypast and thought I could get in safely. The dragon can be fooled with the night elf racial power Shadowmeld, but don't move otherwise they will instantly come back. Hunters etc. - dismiss your pets.

I like the challenge inherent in some of these quests but this one is pretty fiendish.

It wasn't that hard for me.. Although I'm a rogue I only used my vanish one time, right in the beginning because I got too close to an elite.
There's a keg near a tent on the other side, just use the devise on the border, jump on the tent and sabotage it, you can either wait 7 times for it to respawn or look for kegs that are on the outer side and use the devise on the borders of the building and avoid the elites. Don't forget to wait untill the dragon is out of sight. :)

As a druid I was able to use the Shroud of the Makers and then shift in to flight form without the stealth breaking. I was able to move at full flight speed while stealthed, and hover over any bad guys while still being able to click on the items I needed to complete the quest.

Okay, so obviously this quest requires a little bit of thought and technique. People saying "oh it should be changed" are really just being lazy IMO. You remind me of this one comment I saw that said "i want WoW to be mindless, i don't want to think about what im doing" or something along those lines. I really don't understand why you would play a game that you want to be easy all the time, there's no fun in that. Anyway, here are some tips:

As a mage, I aggroed the dragon twice, and died 0 times from him. All I did was blink once, and then go invis. You can also run towards the back corner where it forms a sort of triangle. There are some trees and water back there. At the corner, you are able to jump in. As a mage, you don't even need to die, and other classes, if you run towards that area, you might get away, as the dragon is pretty damn slow.

The only time I died was from aggroing the mobs. Plan it so you turn your invisible on right when the dragon flies away from your position, then "follow" him around the circle as you collect. Remember to use the /walk command or hit / on your keyboard. Stay a couple meters away from the mobs and you wont aggro them.

Best of luck, I know it can be frustrating, but keep calm, think of it as a puzzle, and move slowly. :)

A few keys. I read stuff here and thought, this is gonna suck. It was just an exercise in stealth; expecting to shroud up, run around and do 7 barrels at once is too impatient. I died 3 times while figuring it out. Big deal. You rez on a bird that is 15 feet away. Word of caution though: do take off your gear.

A few tips:

1) Go to side walls, shroud up and sneak to arm the explosive charge, sneak out, fly to next area and rinse/repeat.

2) DO NOT choose barrels where the guard is standing too close. The point is this: if they pivot in your direction, you're dead. You chose a barrel that was too close to a guard.

3) If you are revealed, quickly run to your soon-to-be death&rez spot.

After final barrel, the cut scene comes and saves yer ass. I did my final three in one swoop - chose the tents right in front of the entrance to the underground area. There were 3 very doable barrels there.

And for God's sake, if you chose to shroud up and go when the dragon was coming... stick to quests and avoid raids. Cata is a joke for questing. This will piss people off, but if people can't handle this, they don't have the tenacity to raid successfully.

Yup, this quest truly stinks. Died probably a dozen times grabbing barrels. The one minute CD on Repentance is way too long for an area such as this. Forget using the cloak. Just plan on a repair bill of around 40 gold, and get it done.

If you aggro the dragon and you are a nelf, shadow meld will reset it, feign death did nothing. Also I would recommend taking all your gear off for this one.

As a Druid... this is actually a fairly easy quest. Here is how I completed this quest without incident:

1. Use the shroud
2. Switch into your flight form
3. While avoiding the big dragon fly around to all the powder drums... Now here's the trick...
4. Fly low, but don't touch the ground. As long as you don't touch the ground or run into any of the troopers, you can get in range of the drums and sabotage them. Very easy.

Not a hard quest. It says BEWARE! Myzerian can see through your disguise! and if that's not a big enough hint that you shouldn't go anywhere near him I don't know what people want.

The only problematic part of the quest is that it's stealth and not actually invisibility. Once you work that out if you can't do this quest without dying I pity you.

Something people might find helpful is to find themselves a "safe zone". For example if you go stand at around (41,24) you are in a triangle between a building and a wall, which is off the dragon's patrol route - he won't see you here.

Simply wait for the dragon to go past (it patrols around the obelisk anti-clockwise) then use the shroud and go do a couple of the powder-kegs... then head back to your safe zone and wait until the dragon passes again.

Rinse and repeat and by the time you do the last kegs, the first ones you did will have respawned, so you will never have to travel far from your safe zone.

As regards the stealth, I didn't have a problem at all - just be sensible and don't wander right up to some dude's face. You can approach powder kegs that are pretty close to the guys as long as you're careful.

It's sad but predictable to hear people complaining about the fact that Blizz introduced a quest that is perfectly easy but requires just a little thought and patience :\

Mages can use regular invisibility and click on the keg coming out of invis. Then blink away mana shield and run to the corner located at 39,16 to escape from combat. By the time I got to this <safe> location I was down to 3/5ths health.

As a Lock I threw down a demonic circle within the area of the jugs I was going to disarm, had my succubus out and I had her wait nearby so she could seduce if she had to and then I would run, dismiss her, get away, mana up, and do it again.

I also died twice. Once the dragon saw me, second time a random guard saw me.

Much as I love this zone, a lot of the quests were not at all challenging for a dk, so this was one that made me think, which I greatly prefer. Not a hard quest at all if you follow the sage advice above.

Go to the south of the action, where the aqueduct flows past. Wait for the dragon to path by, put on your semi-invis, sneak in, dont get to close to anyone or any fires. With 2 minutes of stealth, you can work your way ahead of the dragon and get 3 or 4 barrels sabotaged per use, then sneak back to the sidelines and wait for the dragon before going in again. A very easy quest.

It is not as difficult as others suggest (or has it already been been nerfed?). You must be patient and plan a bit ahead. Choose a position at the border of the area as close to a jar as possible, and watch where any walking guards are. See how they move and avoid them once you go in. Then let the dragon fly by and move in after (s)he passes you. Keep as much distance as possible of any of the other guards too. Move in between them if required (stay in the middle of two)

Take no more than 2-3 jars at a time or even only 1 (again, patience helps here). Then return to the border and refresh the timer on your cape. Repeat the process

And yes, pets should be dismissed

I have found a technique for this,
if u get caught by a friggin soldier CC them so that u can use your cloak peacefully
but remember not to get caught by that dragon, this is 99% worked for me and if it doesn't work for you then 1% goes for you, btw I'm a pally and I used my repentance to get out of that mess

Did not see it mentioned but might have missed it. Hunters dismiss your pet because the pet will not be covered by the shroud and after they kill him they come for you even if you have the shroud on.

Also, there is no mention that feign death fails but it does not work on the dragon.

The quest isn't really that bad at all. You need to take your time and tap tap works very well. What I did was stealth near a barrel and got just close enough to activate. Then got away, summoned my mount and went to the next barrel waited for the dragon to be clear on the other side, rinsed and repeated. Didn't die once and was not noticed once. Patience is needed though. But can be done easily.

Anyone who did To Netherwing Ledge at-level can certainly attest to that! The quest area was crawling with Elites that were almost impossible to avoid.

In fact, I am almost certain the developers create quests like these just so they can sit around on their lunch break and laugh their behinds off reading angry posts!

Not that bad.
After the first time when the device stealth got me noticed I opted to use camouflage around certain areas. I think the device doesnt cloak as well on lower level pets so camouflage seemed to work better. In other areas rather than sneak all the way in I just cleared the some mobs one at a time.
It wasn't too bad fighting 85 elites even with an 82nd level pet. Tricky part was pulling the guards back far enough so as to leave the dragon patrol route.

Fights are a bit on the lengthy side but I've levelled pets quickly before by going into instances and soloing mobs so it wasn't that much different. Might keep this since I havent turned in yet and just use it for pet levelling.

As a Warlock, this quest was not hard at all. It was a little time consuming and arguably one of the most annoying quests thus far... however, not difficult.

1. As noted by everyone else, the dragon can detect you while in stealth mode. I did aggro him once, but was able to fear him away. I was then able to mount up and fly to avoid dying. He flies in a big enough circle that there really isn't much worry about him. However, as long as you wait until he's on the opposite side of the area, you'd be less likely to aggro him.

2. I walked around the elites with no problems... I just tried to maintain a normal distance and tried to move behind them instead of in front.

3. Again, the barrels can be scouted and there are plenty (even with a ton of people on the same quest). So take a minute and be picky - rather than just diving in.

This quest took me approximately 5 minutes to complete.

I died once.

Then figured it out, and got all 7 seven barrels without being seen. The stealth buff has a timer, look at it and know when you should find a safe spot to re-stealth. Don't go barreling through mobs just because you have the shroud on.

It's not that hard if you aren't a mouthbreathing idiot with no patience. Blizzard, please leave the quest as is.

Those that can't figure it out probably love to stand in fire/poison/void zones too.

Well, I'm not sure if the Bliz crew fixed this or not - but I died rather quickly once. Then I came here and read up - after that, I was very careful and slow: I'd fly to the wall, hit the shroud when I saw a barrel close. Then I'd careful slip up (making sure not to cross in FRONT of any of the elite's)...then I'd quickly run back to the wall and mount (I don't think I needed to mount - but was scared I'd get trapped - you can't get out without flying). Then I'd wait till the dragon circled and repeat. I never even got close to hit again.

Low and slow....seems to work.

This is literally the ONLY quest I've done so far that pissed me off.

This quest is really just a test of how many times you can die before rage quitting. EVERYTHING breaks you out of stealth... like looting a corpse. And the dragon will seriously aggro from half-way across the map at 85. Walking within 2 inches of a mob is fine but walking through them will aggro. Who designed this quest?

Actually wasn't all that hard once I had it figured out.. Just stay at least 10 yards from all guards, figure out their paths of patrol, and move through to the edge of the barrel's activation range. Simple. Oh, and avoid the dragon.

I didn't die once.

Should be cake for anyone who's played through a Metal Gear Solid game or two.

EDIT: Also, I'm only level 84 at the time of doing this.

Well, after dieing a couple of times I checked here for some ideas.

What I came up with;
1st fly around and find a likely keg,
2nd fly to a safe place,
3rd check on dragoon,
4th stealth in and blow keg,
5th mount.

Rinse and repeat.

You wont come out of stealth until you are mounted.
Managed all kegs with out one death.

When I first started reading about this quest I thought "Oh no, it's going to be one of THOSE quests", but actually it is very very simple if you follow a couple of simple rules:

1. Stay BEHIND everybody.
2. Set off kegs at max distance - this can also be done whilst standing behind somebody.
3. Stay well out of line of sight of the circling dragon.

You can do this quest by just staying near the west wall and just coming in to grab a couple of kegs. There is no need to go anywhere near the central section that the dragon circles. The kegs have a very fast respawn time so you can just keep circling around the same section.

Don't worry about trying to get out afterwards, once complete you get a nice cut-scene and end up back with Dr. Jones.

LOL!, I too also finished this quest first try. I went in all stealthy as usual, got pinged a few times by some elites. Managed to get outta there. Went in for round 2'zies, ended up getting rounded up by Myzerion AND a few elites on may way outta there to save my life.

Round 3'zies... I think "Right I gotta do this without dieing now.".

So, like the guy a couple of posts up said, I thought I gotta play this just like Deadmines or something. Real cautious like.

And as it turns out, in the end, all u gotta do is just try make your way through them all with as much distance as possible between you and anything elite, and sure enough, you'll get the barrels. But... one thing I noticed, is if you try and keep as much distance between you AND the barrel's ALSO, to last point of where you can then click it...

You'll get em. Easy.

Hoped this helped. Oh and... This mission is prolly easier for a rogue... Only for gettin your arse outta there quick smart the first few times you all try and fail. :P

Not nearly as bad as people make it sound ...

1) Mount up on your flying mount. If you get shot at in the air, at least you can fly up to outrun it. Outrunning it on the ground is hella difficult, but possible (I did it once before I started flying)
2) Scout out a nice Powder Keg that isn't TOO crowded. There were plenty for me.
3) Go to a wide open space back from it and put on the cloak.
4) Wind your way wide around any elites. They will NOT see you as long as you just keep wide of them by a simple bit.
5) Do the Keg and slink away the way you came;

Mount up for safety once you are out of the way; rinse, repeat.

Notes:

- As for the dragon, just keep an eye on it. Go in when it passes by, I never had a single instance of it turning around to come after me after it was facing away from me.

- You don't have to be right on top of the keg to grab it. You can be a few steps away, which helps with staying away from the guards.

I didn't die once and it only took a few minutes.

As a Death Knight, Hungering Cold froze him solid and allowed me to get away the one time he saw me. I'm not sure about the others classes, but if mine works other CC might work too.

After dying a couple of times I got on to a tactic that worked pretty well. (As a hunter I dismissed my pet) Fly over the area and try to find a barrel that's not too well guarded and make sure the dragon is on the other side of the obelisk. Find a place you can land as near as possible to the barrel and from the outside edge, where you don't draw aggro. If you're on the ground and aren't drawing aggro then deploy the shroud, carefully move toward the barrel and click the gear. If you land and you are drawing aggro don't dismount, just fly away. If you wire a barrel and you haven't got aggro from the guards you can just mount and look for another barrel. If you draw aggro when you're unmounted you're pretty cooked, but you just have to accept that this quest is munched...it should be fixed. If you die it's better to just go back for repair rather than run up a big bill.

I managed to finish this quest as a level 85 frost mage, with some help from following the tips that others have posted here. Definitely dismiss your pet, it won't be of any use except for alerting the elites to your presence. You can fly in, perch on the wall that can't be jumped over, wait for the dragon to fly past, stealth with the quest item, then sneak past the elites to sabotage a barrel or two. You are stealthed until you finish performing an action, such as getting on your mount, so you can get a barrel and mount, then fly out to repeat the process, starting with perching on the wall.

Whoa, why the hate for this quest. O_o It's really quite simple.

Guards - There are two types, one is stationary, facing a particular direction, don't walk in front of them, walk towards their sides or back. The other type walks around, but they only walk along the inner "track", so just don't walk towards the track.

Dragon - Just don't go close to it, he doesn't fly very fast, and his patrol appears to be fixed.

Fly, land a safe distance away, shroud. Walk in, grab a few kegs, walk out towards the edges where you would be safe, reshroud. Repeat.

Druids, you can shroud, then switch into flight form. Your flight form will be shrouded. Very, very handy. ;)

This quest is actually very easy and quick if done right. Combining many of the strategies listed here, I finished it in 5 minutes and never aggroed anything at all. Try this:

1. Dismiss any pets.

2. Mount up and fly high above the camp to scout out which barrels have a good distance between it and the nearest guard.

3. Watch the Elite dragon carefully. As soon as he flys away from you and his back is turned to you, land at the outer-most perimeter of the camp and shroud yourself. If he sees you, you have mere seconds to get out of the perimeter of the camp. If his back is to you and he stops flying and hovers in mid-air, he detects you, so fly out.

4. You have 2 minutes on the shroud timer so watch it carefully. If you have to reshroud, doing so will drop your cloaking, so you should head back to the perimeter whenever you see the dragon coming or you have less than 30 seconds left on the shroud buff. You can LoS the dragon, so reshroud behind an object if you can. There's lots of stone blocks to hide behind.

5. While shrouded, move toward the barrel, keeping the guards' backs to you. If they are facing you they will see you. Move toward the barrel slowly using your "W" or "arrow up" keys while mousing over the barrel. As soon as the cog wheel turns yellow, stop moving and click it.

6. Move to the next barrel if it is close and there are no guards in the way. If not, go back to the perimeter. Mount up -- as you are mounting, you will stay cloaked while casting your mount, the instant the mount pops you will be visible, fly straight up out of range and scout the next barrel.

Now remember, if the Dragon is coming toward you, or you have less than 30 seconds on the timer, you must get back to the perimeter. If you aggro something, run toward the perimeter to die, so when you rez, you may be out of aggro range. If you died in aggro range, take rez sickness and try again. Don't try to rez in aggro range unless you wanna Kamakazi. Good luck!

Take gear off just in case, then mount up and fly to the edge the dragon just left. pick some kegs close by the wall and get them. as said in other posts avoid walking in front of the guards, then when you get a keg or you see the dragon coming back around mount up and repeat. if you get spotted and only have one keg left you can click it between attacks and it'll trigger a cut scene so you'll be safe.

It was hard for me at first to, died for 4 times but then I realised something. This isn't typicall WoW "kill everything" quest either with your weapons or special item, you need to do it like in other stealth based games. Observe route of dragon (which is easy) and guards (which is little harder because they are many), at the end of it I was sneaking between 4-5 guards and had a fun doing it. Just don't pass directly infront of them and you'll do fine.

I know it's funny and satisfying to complain about something, but people are downrating the actual helpful advice and rating up the whiners.

Yes, this quest is annoying, but it's very, very possible without dying. The dragon is bugged and will not warn you, yes, but he is a very small player overall.

1) It's STEALTH. Not invisibility. Stealth. You must stay behind the guards, you can't walk in front and in between them without expecting to get shot and killed.

2) As pointed out earlier, be patient, travel the extra 30 yards to pick out easy kegs.

3) Watch the dragon or, if you have a way to drop aggro/combat, watch whether or not you're in combat.

4) Dismiss your pets (for the 12th time derp derp). If you're so frightened, crack a soulshard, resummon, call them, whatever, but better to dismiss them than to let a patting trooper see them, or to wait for them to run all the way over to you.

Rule 1 is king though. The moment I let that sink in, I had this quest in the bag.

OK.. if you want this to be very easy.. I will tell you how to be stupid but smart ;)

1: Take of ALL your clothes... trust me it wont save you, so why pay for the repairs?

2: Wait until the dragon is past a acquired target, because you need as long as possible to just sabotage the damn keg. and he will kill you very fast.

3: Once you are clear of ol' jumbo..(dragon) Then simply fly in as a sexy naked lil thing you are right next to the barrel and right click the damn barrel. YES you will be killed.. but you will be returned to the graveyard which is meters away...now.. naturally, you will have to respawn back at the place you just got pwned..so you will probably die again.. but before you do die again after respawn, run as fast as you can to a safe as possible place for your NEXT respawn.. then do it over again 6 more times.. :D

4: Go back to Dr. Jones and smack him across the face :D ALL DONE!

After dying a few times, I came to realize that quests are meant to be harder on higher levels. So to all the peeps moaning, listen up - get over yourself. If there was never any challenge to any quests, we would all get bored. Patience and perseverance is key here. I found the best way to handle this quest is to pick your spots. Fly around the perimeter and find a keg that has easy access and escape routes. Land there and shroud yourself. Run around until you get close then walk. Remember the shroud only lasts two minutes. Take keg and run back to the same spot and unshroud. Do this for all and you can't fail. It will take a while but patience is a virtue.

85 demo lock and I was barely able to take one of these guys down at a time.. even when cloaked and no pet they'd see me and Dragon Ass no where near.. I ended up saying screw it and just went in with pet let him aggro and died each time but got the kegs. Didn't like the repair bill but gold is like candy in Cata so no worries.

Not sure if anyone has said this but after two deaths I worked out how to drop aggro. If you can, jump into the water. The dragon can't follow you there. Wait a little while and you will drop out of combat. :)

I agree: very annoying quest. You just have to be aware of where the dragon is and then it's just a matter of being regularly stealthy.

This quest is not difficult. But you must do what it requires, not what you think ought to be required. Once I realized that, I have finished it with no deaths, every time. Here is what you must do:

- Scout the area from the air (watch out for the dragon) and choose an entry path to some kegs at a safe distance from the guards. To avoid detection, either stay behind them or about 15 yards from in front of them. There seems to be room to pass midway between any pair of perimeter guards.

- Position yourself ready to enter between guards, and don't cloak until the dragon and any patrols on the inner path have passed by. Then cloak and enter without delay.

- You can reach most kegs without getting in front of a mob. Click them at max distance and move on. Keep an eye out for pats, and stay behind the dragon.

- When you have about one minute left on the cloak, or if pats are approaching, exit between guards, renew the cloak and repeat. Two or three passes should be enough.

- There is no need to exit after the last keg. The cutscene will port you back to Jonesey.

Sometimes its possible to sabotage keg without pulling any guard just look around.

Best way for mages:

1. Find keg with only one guard.
2. Polymorph the guard.
3. Sabotage.
4. Use invisibility and run away.

The only problem is long cooldown on invisibility (3 min.)...

The main problem with this quest is that is not well explained at all.
I mean, the tooltips are misleading: the Shroud of the Makers doesn't rend you to total invisibility. Instead, it works like a rogue's stealth, although much less efficient.
Just don't walk in front of your enemies and keep off the dragon's sight and you'll do fine.

Well, I wouldn't bother with the polymorphing, but Invisibility works on both the dragon and the mobs, at least in terms of dropping threat. Somewhat strange, as the dragon is visible whilst under the effects of Invisibility meaning that it can see through it, but this might just be a bit of wierdness to do with the spell itself.

Those of you who find this quest "annoying" and "stupid" and a "waste of time" are not playing the game for the right reasons.

If you're only looking for the instant gratification of that XP reward, you're taking the game too seriously and should probably take a break.

The developers made the quest with the intended purpose of pulling you into the story and lore of Uldum. I mean, seriously, Uldum has the most cutscenes of all the new Cataclysm zones. The game is meant to be fun and entertaining, not a chore.

Quite frankly, I prefer quests like these over the "kill these guys and bring me their severed body parts" type. They're more engaging.

As all have said, very annoying. Done this four times and none have been easy. Fly to the steps of the Obelisk, there are three accessible barrels from there. Doesn't matter if you die on the last one, quest is over. Don't bother with pots or buff, just going to be wasted when you DIE.

I found this quest rather easy to complete, staying close to the pillar so I could LoS the dragon.

Just go round the pillar, watching your buff duration. Make sure to gtfo when you're about to be visible.

If you can judge agro radius' rather well this quest is pretty easy. The most annoying part was how slow I was moving.

Rogues, it seems like the dragon can't see through regular stealth, so forget the cloak and just use stealth and sap. I didn't get detected (while stealthed) or die once and finished it in about 5 minutes.

Not sure why this quest is considered so hard.
As a Hunter, I just dismissed pet, mounted and scouted out kegs that were fairly easy to get to, landed and cloaked, went in, went out, and repeated the process. Also just kept an eye on the dragon so I wouldn't get too close.

Got uncloaked the first time by getting too close to one of them Troopers, but as a Night Elf I was able to Shadowmeld and lose aggro. And also got dragon aggro, but I sent pet in, ran away, and didn't die. Easy peasy.

I prefer quests like that, too. But being different is not an excuse for being bad, or worse, a good idea extremely poorly implemented.

The question description should at least hint at things you need to know to do the quest successfully. For example, say that great dragons might be immune to the effect. Or at least say, "some magical creatures might be immune to the effect" and let me work out that, "Hey, I better keep an eye on that dragon, he might be immune to the effect and I better play it safe." But no, the only way to discover that the dragon is completely immune is to be noticed, and once you are noticed, you are dead. When the only way to discover essential information to completing the quest is to die learning it, the quest is extremely badly done.

Then once you do discover this... you must spend the rest of the quest trying to avoid a mob you can't even see coming due to camera angles, while simultaneously keeping very close attention to people around you on the ground since they can see you too if you're not careful, while simultaneously keeping an eye on the timer and cooldown of your cloak.

Oh, joy...

The developers made the quest with the intended purpose of pulling you into the story and lore of Uldum. I mean, seriously, Uldum has the most cutscenes of all the new Cataclysm zones. The game is meant to be fun and entertaining, not a chore.

Precisely. And this quest is an utter failure on those terms. This does not pull you into the story, it makes you want to throw the game out. It is not fun or entertaining. It's a chore you slog through (assuming you don't abandon it) only because, up until this point, this has been an awesome quest chain in the best questing zone they've ever done, and you want to see it through to the end, so you put up with a quest that was obviously rushed out the door because it is near the end of the quest chain, and they were running out of time before the game's release, having long since abandon's the "we'll release it when it's done" mantra in favor of their new corporate overlord's respect for precise release schedules.

Then you rage about it on WoWhead, because it makes you mad that such a wonderful questing zone, so rich in lore, story, cutscenes and innovative quest design has to be badly marred by a piece of crap quest like this. Or maybe that's just me... (looks at all the previous comments)... okay, not just me. :(

WALK ..... (hit default toggle W) ..... DON'T RUN. See a couple posts earlier. This is another piece of Blizzard genius. When was the last time you ever WALKed anywhere. Well, do it now. Get off yer mount somewhere quiet and observe the way Myzerian circles. As soon as she is clear, hit W walk, put on yer shroud and WALK to wards the target keg. When walking, you can get to within 6 - 12 feet of a 85Elite guard, without him noticing. If you feeling lucky, sabotage a second keg. But be prepared for this quest to take a while. Before the Shroud runs out, walk to a safe area. Start the whole thing again, in another area, with another target keg.

This quest rocks for Rogues, especially worgens! You can't be seen if your rogue stealth, and use maker shroud. You also have two sprints you can use.

Warlocks can use their Demonic Circle: Teleport spell without breaking stealth, oddly enough. You can use it to quickly get back out of detection range while sabotaging kegs.

Going POOF and not breaking stealth was really about the only fun thing about this quest.

As the description states, make sure you're always "near" somewhere safe where guards aren't likely to aggro you. That way, once the effect of the cloak wears off you won't be mobbed.

I also suggest that you wait for the dragon to get on the opposite side of the ruins as you are, then make your way around the ruins sabotaging the powdered kegs. Try to keep your location and the dragon's location parallel, it will make your life a lot easier as in doing this you will not attract his aggro. :)

Following some of the advice of others I was able to complete the quest without dying once. The key here is to dismiss your pets and avoid the dragon.

1. Hide behind a structure near to your targets. (The dragon can't see you through buildings or rock)

2. Wait until the dragon's back is facing you. (It patrols anti clockwise around an obelisk)

3. Go into stealth mode break cover and head for your target (As long as you are not right on top of the NPC's they can't see you in front or behind them. You also do not have to be right on top of your target for the cog to go gold. Experiment with distance)

4. While still stealthed head back to where you originally took cover. (By now the dragon is making its way back to you and you don't want to be caught out in the open when stealth fades out)

5. While under cover wait until the timer on your stealth has run out then re stealth once you see the back of the dragon. Repeat process.

This way I had to fly to only one other area to complete the quest

Actually it's not hard at all. Did it just now with my huntard. Myzarian follows a counter-clockwise path and patrols at a relatively slow pace. This is the best thing you'll use in order to complete this quest.

1. There are water canals on the perimeter. Fly around there and search for the most suitable kreggs, closest ones.

2. Then land on the canal's walls when you find easy-to-sabotage kregg and use the cloak. Now, you've got 2 min. Do NOT push your limits. Be patient and do NOT try to take more than 2 kreggs at a time.

3. Do NOT run into the mobs, other than that they will not see you. Go for the kregg, sabotage it. If you have time go for the second. But ALWAYS keep an eye on the Myzarian's patrol.

4. When your cloak is about to expire, rush to the water canal's walls or find a another safe spot and mount immediately. Take off and look out for your next easy kregg targets.

5. Land again on a safe spot (on my experience, I always landed on the water canal's walls). Use the cloak and repeat it.

Now here are some tips for.

* Huntards, use your Aspect of Cheetah.
* Probably other speeding up skills like mages' Blink can work while you're invisible. But need confirmation. (Though Blink is kinda dangerous one, you need to know its yard well in orther to not to run into a mob.)
* Dismiss your pet.
* Don't know if it had any advantage but I did get rid of all my gear. Bare foot.
* Watch for dragon's patrol all the time.
* Do NOT run into the mobs, then you'll be fine in your cloak.

As I said above, I just died one time because of running into a mob. For that I don't know the dragon's spotting range. But if you watch it path and understand it's pace, it will be ok.

Acctually it's a nice quest cause you manage to kill a black dragonflight on your own, kinda ego satisfaction :P

Good luck. Just be patient and watch your environment. Use your speeding up skills and the advantage of your flying mount for searching the suitable kreggs.

I have tried this method myself and have found that I dont have to toggle my run/walk.

I am a level 84 Rogue when trying this.

Use the device then while you have the two minutes activate your own stealth your character should vanish nearly completely from your own screen, the elite soldiers dont really have a chance of spotting you through your stealth so it makes getting past them easy.

You can also use the tents to break line of sight with the dragon so he doesn't come after you

WARNING: activating the kegs DOES break your stealth but not that of the device

WARNING: The dragon will see you NO MATTER what if you are directly in front of him at any distance

Very annoying quest, and a lot expensive too if... you don't take off ALL your equip.

Little tips:
1) DON'T USE Shroud of the Makers.
2) It's active only for 2 (two) minutes
3) If you try to refresh it, troopers will fire you

Then...
1) Take off all your equip
2) Take your flyin mount
3) Point at the nearest Powder Keg
4) On keg, click it (many times if you'll be interrupt)
5) You will die
6) As ghost, move to the nearest Powder Keg in your resurrect range
7) Resurrect
8) Suddenly click on the Keg (many times if you'll be interrupt)
9) Troopers will fire you, and you will die
10) Repeat from 6)

Don't resurrect by the Spirit because your bags will suffer damage

Very annoying...

We this one as a pair (85 Paladin & 85 Mage). Once we got the hang of how the cloak worked (or didn't work), our most successful approach was to find a keg with only one guard and have the Mage polymorph said guard.

It was a relatively simple process to walk right past the sheep (or in this case penguin) and click on the keg.

This quest is cake, especially as a Rogue. Put on on the cloak, AND you can stealth while it's on. Sap any enemies near a keg then while your stealth is automatically canceled from clicking the keg, the shroud is still up. When you see the dragon coming, just run to a distant corner until it passes and while you're there, refresh your cloak. Simple quest for a rogue, done in one shot with no aggro/damage.

As the rest have said, a very annoying quest. As a lock it took me 1 death to realize my pet had to go (other quests in the past have let me keep out my pet even though I am incognito/hidden/etc), 1 death to realize they will aggro if you pass too close to them, 1 death to figure out that re-doing the buff decloaks you, and 1 death to figure out the range of the damn dragon.

The dragon, though, can be feared. I managed to survive a second detection by fearing him and getting far enough to get out of combat.

This is the WORST quest ever! After dying twice and paying almost as much in repairs as the quest reward, I abandoned the quest and left the zone and won't go back. Even despite all of the advice below, none of it worked and it just simply can't be done. I hate quests like this!

Okay this annoyed the crap out of me till i figure it out then it went quite quickly.
There is a double wall with a moat in the middle. Fly on perimeter and locate the closest kegs (and they may not seem very close) wait for dragon to make his round past you. Jump on inner wall put on stealth go directly to keg (not to close to the guys on ground) click on gear. Go back the way u came right away. Repeat this 7 times. Make sure to only do one at a time or you are pushing your luck. I did this and was finished in minutes. Good Luck!

Guys, i tried, i really did. As a druid i could do it, pretty well actually. But as a hunter al stripped down, pet dismissed.... i can't get by the mobs.... i tried walking too... at quit a long distance the mob saw me still..... not all the kegs are near a mob, but to get to them you have to pass mobs..... and flying to a keg and then get down, mobs are te close... in my opininion... i really have no clue to do this without dying at least 6 times.....

Well i died two times but it took like forever.... really plan which kegs you wanna take, go down when the dragon has passed you by, cloack up, get behind the mobs... and take the keg, when you get spotted, stop moving, then they won't see you.... and when you have the keg, fly away... to behind the walls... there the dragon won't spot you. But take your time!

I found this quest to be VERY easy! I ran it as an 84 DK. I didn't have to fight anyone and got all barrels within 8 minutes. Just be tactful and patient. Here's what I did: I flew to the base of the "Y" shape on the map, where the two canals meet the main river. As you fly there you'll see/hear the dragon flying around the Obelisk of the Moon. I flew to the right side of the "Y" where the stairs going down are. I waited in the air for the dragon to come by and spotted a barrel on the north side of the stairs. When he rounded where I was at and his back was to me I landed on the raised part of the canal and put on the cloak. I jumped down and ran to the barrel, clicked it, waited for timer, then ran back to the corner of the "Y". This was my safe spot from now on. After that I hit the air, recon'd several barrels, and after the dragon passed by and HIS BACK WAS TO ME, I landed on the canal wall, cloaked, jumped and could hit 2-3 barrels before running back to my safe spot to remount. The only problem I had was I got too close and aggro'd a mob once. But I mean I walked very close to him and he saw me. I might even have brushed him. I just ran like heck to the canal wall toward my safe spot and he dropped. No death for me! I just remounted, recon'd more barrels, waited for dragon, etc. It was a VERY easy quest, not at all the pain others had. And being a DK did not matter at all. I didn't cast or fight. Do not be afraid of this quest! Try what I did and have fun!

I did this 3 times with a DK, a rougue and a warrior. The general strategy is
(1) walk around the edge until you find a keg that is safe to do
(2) watch out for Myzerian before you move out
(3) you have 2 minutes to be 'invisible', but you don't have to wait until the time expires before you activate it again, so do that with plenty of time
(4) try one keg at a time, and move back to the edge as soone as it is done

At first I thought the quest was screwed, too, but once I got the knack of it, it wasn't really hard to complete.
As others have said before me, the quest item doesn't grant you invisibility, only stealth. ~~Sallah~~ Sullah actually warns you: "that renders the user nearly invisible."

If you stay behind the backs of the mobs and don't bump straight into them, they won't notice you.
Same for the dragon, I mostly tried to stay right behind him and he never caught me.
I could do 1-3 barrels in one go before the buff expired.

You just have to be careful and patient for a change, instead of the usual dashing in and killing everybody method all the Kill Thirty Bugbears quests have engraved in us.

I found by using my dragon to pin point the barrels, and staying slightly higher than the circling dragons, I was able to drop and set the barrels. A few times it was calculated suicide, but it worked, and I did not die as often as I thought.

OK, I just did this quest (died 4 times), abandoned it, and did it again (died once) and here's my take on it.

There is a double wall with a moat in the middle around two sides of the target area.
Land on the inner wall - the troupers won't bother you; the dragon got me when I stood there as he went by (that's how I died in my second run and the only reason I did die) but ignored me twice when I sat there.
Find a barrel that you can reach without going too close to any trouper, avoid if possible going in front of any trouper.
MAKE SURE the dragon is on the other side from you.
Invoke the shroud.
Run to the barrel and click on it.
Run back the way you came (you know it's clear).
Get back on to the wall (I had to fly - couldn't jump up - this removes the shroud).
Repeat until you've done 7 barrels.

This quest requires PATIENCE! - you have to make your move at the right time.
DO NOT let the dragon see you and he can see when you're under the shroud (other comments say you can hide behind things).
If you aggro only 1 of the bad guys it is possible to outrun him: head for the nearest edge and try to run the parameter (away from other troupers) until he gives up, which he does fairly easily - you'll take damage but might not die.
It is best to avoid going in front of the troupers.
The troupers moving around in the center seem to be less aggressive - which only means you can possibly risk gettin closer to them.
You can reinvoke the shroud before it lapses but that's pretty worthless because it makes you visible.
Other comments talk staying in the center near structures and making your move from there and about doing this nude (so you don't have to pay for repairs after you die). (After all the dieing I did, repairs cost me over 26G.)
It is possible to do two barrels in one run if your careful.

Okay, so after attempting this several times, I came up with a conclusion that I was happy with. I pretty much combined all of these comment strategies into one, and succeeded.

MAGES AND SHAMMYS:
Use your polymorph and hex! Hex/polymorph the guard in front of you(if his back is not facing towards you--if it is, your chances of staying stealthed are high), pick up the keg, and stealth again.

Take off all of your gear (I don't know about you, but I don't want insane repair bills).

Sure, I died a couple of times -- but the hex worked for me. Good luck!

I thought this quest was going to be a time consuming as some of the difficult ones for a priest. However, it really wasn't that bad. I completed the quest without dying. Yes, I did get noticed the first two times, but realized that areas near the steps was a better place to complete the quest. You just have to notice the area where elites are almost always facing away from you. You just have to think and plan. :)

This quest may have been fixed sometime prior to 4.3, if the comments above are anything to judge by. I just tapped 7 kegs in a row, in a single stealth session, without being spotted. Just had to keep behind enemies and make sure I stayed out of aggro range for normal Stealth buffs.

Yanno...I don't know why nobody has said "Hey, just take off all your clothes and die 7 times. Run in, do a keg, die, wait. Run in, do a keg, die, wait. Run in, do a key, die, wait." It's actually the easiest way, it just takes longer. I know dying is annoying, but come on, how many times have you died in this game anyway? Just make up your mind that you're gonna die and do it. It's probably how it was meant to be done anyway; Blizz is just having a joke on us (one of many, I'm sure.) At any rate, I did it this way after much frustration and spitting and cursing Blizzard with The Nine Thousand Paper Cuts Death Curse. It was actually kind of fun after I got over the idea that I had to be uber-leet and figure out how to not get dead at all. For those at the end of their proverbial WoW rope frustrationwise, try it.

Okay, I spent enough time doing this quest and I think I found a quite painless solution for it.

First of all, the entire area is shaped like a triangle. For conversation sake, the side of the triangle that is next to all desert is the AB side (on your left if you are facing the upper most point of the triangle, point a), the side that is closest to the cliff will be BC side, (right side of your computer screen.) The points are Point A, Point B, and Point C (Top of screen, left of screen, right of screen.)

I started on the point B side, all the way in the corner. I made myself nekkid and put the shroud on. Directly across from the ramp that is on your right side is a tent. Just on the opposite side of the tent is barrel 1. There's one guard who's shoulder is facing you and a roaming guard who doesn't get too close. This one was painless. Now go to point B. The tent right next to the runway is barrel 2 guarded by 1 guard who's back is to you. There wasn't a roaming guard for me.

Barrel 3 was on the AB side of point A. Just walk forward, then when you get to the end of the wall, make a quick left. Two steps forward and I was able to get it. Barrels 4, 5, and 6 were almost right next to each other. Go back to the AB side where you'll see two guards facing the wall. Go right in the middle of the guards. One barrel is just on the other side of the ramp of the cart, the next is right in front of the huge whiskey barrel off set to the left a bit.

The last one is a bit of a run. Go behind the guard that is closest to Point A. You will see the barrel right in front of a tent. There is one roaming guard that walks right in front of the barrel, but that is the very end of his sweep. He quickly turns around and walks away. There is a guard who also has his back to you that is standing at the back of the tent. He never turned around.

I made sure to keep the dragon's butt facing me and I was good, I didn't die once. Hope this helps.

Note, the mobs will aggro you if you try and use the cloak in their tent. Even if they have no way of possibly seeing you, apparently these mobs have canvas-vision.

From what I can tell, the dragon boss is the only one who can see you even with the cloak.
My advice is wait for him to get pass you. Click on the bombs but keep an eye on the guys around you, if they "sense" you are near, they will attack.
Before I even knew this, I died only once because of the dragon. There was a time when one of the guys "sense" me so I just ran away. Also, since its only a 2 minute duration, its best to click on two that are fairly close and safe. Then run away to safety, fly to another part where they are two bombs close together. Be careful not to get spotted while in flight mode.
I flew from spot to spot, try to keep it at two cause if you start running around, your time will be up.

As a well equiped 85, forget the cloak. Put focus on the dragon, and use a more traditional approach. Go in from a corner, kill the elites one by one, and sabotage the kegs.

As a mage, I found I could complete this quest (after dying a few times) by NOT using the "stealth" disguise, which is about as useful as a high-rez jacket with a target painted on it. Instead, I used Greater Invisibility to make myself actually invisible instead of "stealthed" which just seems to be Blizz-speak for "highly visible to enemies", and then get the kegs.

For this quest, if your character is a Hunter, remember to Dismiss your battle pet and any other pets you may have at the time. These are NOT cloaked by the shroud and WILL attrack the many Elite bad guys that are around. Remember to make sure that the Dragon is on the opposite side of the field from where you are working, cause he bites HARD!

If it helps anybody...
You seem to be able to heal while stealthed with this thing. Shamans can also go into Ghost Wolf form. (Druids can just fly around and grab them.)

Strategy I used based on other suggestions here: Run toward a barrel, switch to WALK mode when getting near guards, grab barrel, then when far enough away from guards again, run back to the perimeter to re-apply cloak. Avoid the dragon, and when near a guards, try to walk BEHIND them.
I died zero times doing this.

I agree that this quest is extremely annoying (and poorly designed) but not necessarily because of the stealth issue. Like most of these folks here, the dragon saw through my stealth; not knowing what else to do, I reacted as per usual: I just fought back and began kiting it. First of all, there is no place to run where he de-aggroes. Secondly, about 10 minutes later, I had it down to 1 HP, and I learned that HE CAN'T DIE. Well, at least not at this point in the story.

So I ran. And ran. There is no way out of that area, guys. Who the hell designed this sick joke? You get one shot at doing the quest right, and if you screw it up, dragon roasts you no matter what, oh well, take the repair bill cause you obviously suck, rez and try again.

I bloody KILLED the damn dragon, you bastards! I should have at least gotten another chance to put the damn invisibility cloak back on...

(The bastards part was for the malevolent/ignorant devs who created this particular quest)

I was able to pull some of the elites away, one at a time and kill them before stealthing back to the kegs. After dying twice, I read the comments here and then tried my tactic that worked flawlessly, albeit slowly.

Kept aggroing mobs that had their back to me, from a distance and my cloak disappeared with it just being appilied and no aggro whatsoever

However, i'm glad the graveyard was right by the quest, had flying too so the corpse run wasn't even bad. But since the mobs were so clustered together (at least where i died), i died 3 times just so i could get to a spot without aggroing anyone when i rezzed.

And **** the dragon for seeing through my cloak from like across the map ....

I'm leveling a druid right now so here's my tips for druids: I couldn't apply cloak while shapeshifted, so simply go back into your regular form, apply cloak, and then shift back into flight form. You stay cloaked, and you CAN interact with the bombs while in flight form. I didn't get spotted at all! This is the most pain-free this quest has ever gone for me.

Get nearby, enable cloak, wait for dragon dude to fly past and follow him round from a safe distance. Keep an eye on the time as you only have 1 minute - I just renewed the cloak whilst standing in the open but not too close to any of the mobs.

Some friends of mine recently intercepted a shipment of Schnottz's plunder and found something that should serve your needs nicely.
