We have had escort quests where the npc crawls at a snail's pace and aggroes everything near or not; we have had escort quests where the npc got stuck on poorly designed terrains and despawn half way through, and now, lo and behold, finally we have an escort quest where the npc would not even follow you but goes on their own path.

I must say, Blizzard, I admire how you could keep inventing newer ways of screwing with players on a single issue, over and over again. This is truly game design at its finest.

If you feel like trying your hand at this, the prisoner (horde and ally version) can be found by going down the stairs in the little courtyard.

The first time I attempted to do this quest, he ran up the stairs, said something about it not being the right way, then ZOOMED down and out the front (without pausing and doing his little RP like he should have), jumped on a horse, and hauled ass out without completing.

I went back and started it again and he continued correctly, doing his "Now we are making progress!" chatter right before we left the fort itself and I was able to complete it. Obnoxious.

This has to be "by far" the most annoying and retarded Quest i've ever encountered.
Horde Prisoner attacks Allys on sight, Ally Prisoner attacks Horde on sight...its one big mess.

Judging by the way the prisoner meanders all over the place, running off to completely wrong places, attacking everything in sight, it could possibly be Blizz intentionally taking a dig at their own escort quests.

Just be glad if you're able to complete it at all. After running me all over the place, the bugger just despawned the second we walked out the front door.

Not to add another complaint to this daily, which I'm exactly doing... But there's a stupid bug where you attack an add, and he just stands in one place doing nothing.

When you start the quest keep spaming the prisoner, you can get around 3-5 prisoners at same time trying to escape, worked for me.

This is a very buggy quest. It usually takes me 3 or 4 times before it completes, especially if others are doing it too.

He'll either get to end and just go with no complete; disappear midway; on way to stairs decided to run outside really fast and then just stands there.

I find I have to wait a little while till someone else has started it, else it glitches. If he runs off and you can't keep up, just start again.

I haven't tried spamming to get multiple prisoners...going to next time.

A trick that might increase the chances of finishing the quest is to rapidly click on the NPC to start the escort several times. This will spawn 2-5 copies of the NPC stacked on top of each other that you escort. Not sure if this works every time, but each time I've completed this quest was when I remembered to click several times.

If there are multiple people doing this quest at the same time as you, there's no way to tell the gnomes apart, so it's a good idea to mark yours with a raid icon.

I noticed that some days I only end up with 5 peninsula dailies instead of 6 (the usual number). Today I noticed that if I pick up this quest, another NPC will stop offering the quest "Bomb's Away". And if I pick up "Bomb's Away" the NPC will stop offering this quest. So it is impossible to hold both "Bomb's Away" and "Walk a mile in their Shoes" at the same time, causing players on some days to only have 5 completable TB peninsula dailies.

Blizzard have done a lot of good things in this expansion. This quest however is not among them. Not only is it a bad idea even before implementation (a escort quest in a world PvP zone). Its buggy as all hell. Has taken me a minimum of 2 tries every time I have run it (usually more) because of the NPC bugging out. He quite often misses his RP bits and runs off. If you have him raid marked you can keep up with him but the best you can hope for is after a while he will remember and go back to do them. Unless your in a real hurry for rep and tokens do yourself a favor and do any other daily in cataclysm.

If you are in for some pvp or just want to annoy hordes, kite the opponents "original" prisoner and chain CC it with polymorph,hex,repentance or whatever, invade the prison room a couple of minutes later to find a *!@#storm of people of the opposing faction.

With the horde infestation on my server, there is a 1/5 chance of doing the quest without being ganked. There are constantly 10+ horde around with their prisoners; and should one of them happen to use an AoE spell while killing the mobs that spawn - my gnome will try to kill all of them one by one. 1/10 chance of that happening. Then there's the issue of the NPC just running wildly into nothingness and despawning when the quest should have been done - or running after the horse of a successfully escaped prisoner.

I've skipped this quest many days in a row now, and when I tried it again today I remembered why.

This quest NPC is most likely based off of the lovable character Fail-Druid from the Ctrl Alt Del sillies comics. It certainly would explain why Blizzard went out of their way to make the NPC as annoying as possible. See these funny strips for examples of his hilarious fail:

I'd honestly like to know what keeps causing game developers to put terrible escort quests in their games. At best, they're merely tolerable. At worst, they're an insanely frustrating waste of time. The fact that this one breaks so often puts it pretty solidly in the latter camp.

Best advice I saw here is the multiple clicking on the gnome. This quest bugged on me 4 times in a row. On the fifth try I did the multiple click thing and my little 3 gnommie thing was able to get it right.

Also, it's worth noting that if you're a Rogue, Druid or Hunter, you can avoid combat altogether while doing this quest just by following your prisoner around in stealth. For some reason the prisoners don't aggro any of the mobs walking around so if he doesn't get in combat you can quite simply walk him out the door unchallenged. Just make sure as a Hunter that you are in a secure spot before you let wear off.

If you're on a PvP server this also makes it a lot easier to avoid being ganked.

One time my lil Gnome buddy decided to do all of the quest normally...... Until we got outside, then things got a little crazy. He decided to chase away all of the Horses going to the despawn location, with me in pursuit, just to give up on that horse and run back to scare the others. This continued for about twelve minutes until he finally just turned to me and said he could get from here by horse and i got the quest completion.
I want nothing more than to unleash my best gnome punt on him.

This quest isnot bugged its simply the most annoying quest I have ever done.

TIP: Dojnt stealth blink or something similar while your scourting this guys and by this I mean dont jumping from the stairs, you have to be on the same spot ALWAYS dont leave the guy seprate from u 1 yard cause then the quest will bugg.

Sounds like some of you had it easy with this one....I've had to repeat it 7 times in one day.
Try 1 - Get to the stairs and he decides to use his superman speedboost to run off
Try 2 - Get out to the main keep area and he attacks an NPC that someone else was fighting and despawns
Try 3 - Halfway thru I get attacked by an NPC so I kill it....he runs out to the horses and despawns giving me no credit
Try4 - He finishes on the stairs fine...skips his keep speech and runs outside to try and catch someone else's horse
Try 5 - See try 1
Try 6 - See try 3
Try 7 - Get to the stairs and he says nothing so at this point I'm getting ready to resign my self to doing it again. He runs outside and does the stair speech beside the horses. He runs back inside and does the keep speech. Back outside and scares away a couple horses. Walks up to me and stares me in the face to do his thank you speech and then walks away without a horse >.< I FINALLY got credit!
This is complete and honest truth as unbelievable as my luck is.

Let me sum it up for you:

He proceeds to ignore the WIDE OPEN GATE IN FRONT OF HIM, and continues on believing that the exit is UP THE STAIRS ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. Finallly realizing where the exit is, THE WIDE OPEN GATE GAPPING IN FRONT OF HIM BEFORE!.... All the while you are defending him fom mobs XD...

Finally! Thank you, Starsword! I had yet to complete this quest since starting the TB dailies. I read the tip on fast-clicking the NPC for multiple copies and, sure enough! That does it!

If it was possible, I would pick the gnome up, stuff him in my rucksack, and hurl him at the quest giver at the appropriate time.

Temporarily disabled as of March 1, 2011.

The quest "Walk A Mile In Their Shoes" has not always been correctly awarding players with quest credit after completing the escort event. This quest is being temporarily disabled and removed from the achievement criteria for Just Another Day in Tol Barad. This fix will require a realm restart to take effect.

Oddly I never had a problem with this quest (perhaps luck, or low population server). Near as I could tell he never aggros mobs on his own, and mobs never spawn in the courtyard. So I just follow him to the courtyard and stand there while he takes his tour. Eventually he comes back and makes his way out. Once I get credit for completing it, I leave the courtyard.

Not much help now if it's disabled, but thought I'd share.

This quest seems to have been removed from the rotation of daily quests as of patch 4.1, and it's no longer a requirement for Just Another Day in Tol Barad.

Walk A Mile In Their Shoes

Escort a Farson Hold Prisoner to safety. The hold is located on the northwestern tip of the island.

Description

We have sent at least 3 different recon groups to investigate Farson Hold in the last few weeks. Sadly, not one of them has returned back with any info.

At this point, all we can hope is that they are being held alive as prisoners. I need you to infiltrate the keep and help get our soldiers back. This won't be easy <name>, but if anyone can help us, it's you.
