Loot the key, use the leaver and watch out because the Danforth falls into the water when released.

This location of danforth can be misleading. He's actually in the same cave, just on the other side; not any other cave.

Absolutely do not engage him from the cliff or even jump down from the cliff and then fight him as your less then brilliant companions will stay up on the cliff attacking him and forcing him to evade out.

OK I'm getting frustrated here :P I finished the Krakauer quest inside the cave and then proceeded to this one, I found the Overlord Barbarius (I believe so) and got killed because of the thing Lilica said on the comment above. So after that I just went back to the inn, logged out, and then I installed Burning Crusade. Now I log in, go inside the cave again and I just can't find the damned Overlord! I have literally spent 2 hours in the cave running around! On top of that I cant get rid of the stupid NPC's that follow around everywhere even if I abandon the quest! Some help please? Kinda desperate here...

The lever is next to the pool of water, near where the elite mob spawned. No idea how I looked for ages without seeing it, maybe someone else did too and this helps you!

It took me a couple of tries (or several, to be honest!) to work out that you need to jump into the pool from the cliff; swimming straight in leaves you treading water over Danforth's head, with his mates crowding around you like sheep!

I had the wrong cave too at first. If you look at your map, it's the cave located by Render's Camp called Render's Rock and not the one southwest of that which is called Rethban Caverns.

The spawn time of Barbarius is very slow... took about 5-10 minutes to spawn and it was filled up with other players, so don't get frustrated. Just wait your turn.

with lvl 41 protect warrior, it was impossible to kill him alone. His dps and health are way too high to stay alive

It would appear that scaling has sort of broken this quest. It's not impossible, but its incredibly difficult.

Overlord Barbarius has an inflated health pool and overtuned damage, so he'll end up killing the NPCs that are suppose to tank for you too quickly

If you are taking the shortcut coming from the edge up behind Overlord Barbarius, don't expect your freed friends to jump down with you. My Mage learned this the hard way and got completely gangbanged by the overlord and his friends,

This seems to be bugged in the Dragonflight prepatch. At least it was for me. Could kill the Overlord but when freeing Danforth, he never allowed me to hand the quest into him. I abandoned and retook - showing me the grey ? over his head but by the time Overlord respawned and I could free him again - his body was back up above on the chains and freeing him once more made it impossible to hand it in.

This quest is bugged in Dragonflight pre-patch, you can't turn in the quest because Danforth just stands there in the water.
If that happens to you here's the easy fix.

Kill Overlord Barbarius
Loot the key
Pull the lever, Danforth will fall and will be bugged
Log off as soon as Danforth is in the water
Log back in as quick as possible
Quest will be ready for turn in

OK, There is a way to bypass the bug on this quest on your first kill.

1. Kill the mob as usual
2. Loot the key and free Danforth
3. CRUCIAL Enter the water and swim to the left up the ramp and kill whatever mob is standing there, be it tracker or summoner.
4. Turn around and look towards Danforth and for some inexplicable reason Danforth will now have a question mark above his head.

I've done this several times and every single time it has worked on the first try, don't ask me why because i have no clue.

And Last But Not Least... Danforth

Kill Overlord Barbarius and recover the Blackrock Lever Key. Use the Blackrock Lever Key to free Danforth.

Description

Danforth's being tortured on the other side of the cave. There's no telling what state he's in by now! We need to get over there and save him!

Overlord Barbarius has the key to the lever holding Danforth up. We work together as a team and we can kill that bastard, Barbarius. Once Barbarius is dead, we use his key to get Danforth down and get out of here!
