What exactly is supposed to happen after you zone in? I keep crashing so I'm not sure if I'm missing it or what, but when I am inside there's just a couple of worgen running back and forth between the prison entrance (where you zone in) and the bridge.

This is one of the most badly designed quests in the game at the moment. When got in surrounded by elite abominations with no means of escaping them. The catapults around are no help as die almost instantly to them. Using the rapier was no help either. No npcs to talk to or give an idea of what really to do in the quest.

This needs significant work before its ready for general release

Just in case you didn't read the quest text carefully enough, you have to speak to the man who yells your name after you accept the quest. Don't be like me and follow WoW's built-in QuestHelper to the heart of Gilneas only to stand around awkwardly for 5 minutes waiting for something to happen.

The quest isn't bugged. Once someone starts the quest, via talking to the NPC at the bridge, anyone that is in that phase of questing will not be able to start the quest till the previous person finishes it. Or you can talk to the same NPC on the bridge and select join the current fight and you will be teleported to the current group that is running the quest.

I don't know how to end this quest, it's happened a lot on m server from what I've heard in Trade and General chats. For some reason, after the scene where Liam dies, the question mark appears ont he map, but there are no npcs with it, and the the NPCs involved in the scene and battle just freeze where the fight finished until they disappear and Sylvanas respawns (along with all of the previous mobs)

Correct. Two players (myself on a rogue and another on a priest, not grouped) did the quest at the same time and after Slyvanas does her pushback and "kills" Liam it becomes bugged (as of today, Tuesday, 12/14/10, prior to maitenence).

We lost the buff to restore health when we got to Slyvanas, but, luckily, it was impossible to get threat.
Liam doesn't die, he just falls to the ground
Lorna doesn't spawn in the inn to turn in the quest

After Slyvanas respawned we logged out and back and both were able to continue with the chain. This should be something fixed in the morning as so many people are reporting the issue.

I only used the provided to heal the groups, after the fight the Innkeeper Lorna Crowley was dead, and so the rest of the Npc's at the Inn. But that's not a bug, and if you look under the fight, a whole legion of hustile mobs come out from the Inn.

Just wait for Lorna Crowley to respawn <(^.^)>

Lots of people really need to read quests, it would save a lot of time and less mucking around. If you can't find Krennan to talk to do /Target Krennan. You will be able to see him standing near the large pack of humans near the bridge. Talk to him and start the event.

After completing the quest, and Lorna wasn't in the Inn. It was just a matter of being patient because she respawned after a good few minutes.

I didn't have any problems with this quest.

It was actually very fun for me. Most people are always complaining they just want to get out of Gilneas, but I love the quests there, and I honestly get a little bit disappointed when I'm finished with the starting experience.

People who take the time to enjoy the quests generally have a better time than most.

The quest is working fine from what I've done so far. I've done this 3 times with my rogue, druid, and warrior. It was a tad glitchy at big undead "boss", but it still works fine. I'm in the PvE realm Dalaran.

i have had problems with the buff disapearing but the problem i have every time i do this quest is once Liam dies and it says to find Lorna in the inn she isnt there and sometimes it only takes a few mins but other times i get bored and log.

I've always hated this quest, because on all of the worgens i've done it on, when i get to Sylvanas, the buff u get from being near a leader of the battle goes away, thus i am no longer dealing OP dmg for my lvl, and I am no longer being healed every .5 of a sec, so when i do an aoe like Thunderclap (did this on my warrior like 3 mins ago), the undead all agro, then beat me to a pulp.

Also, why is this quest listed as Night Elf and Worgen races? its only Worgen, right? as no night elves can get into Gilneas.

I found the following bug/glitch:

When I completed the quest, I saw the question mark on my minimap, but the turn-in NPC was nowhere to be found/seen.

Solution: logged out and logged back in.

I spoke to the correct person to initiate the quest.
I followed Liam through the town until we got to the town square and fought Sylvanas.
Sylvanas retreated and I saw the message on my screen indicated that the quest was complete.
I saw the question mark on my mini map showing where to turn in the quest (inside the building where the action ends), but no NPC.

on a side note: the entire quest line is a rail-ride. Very weak design in my opinion. For, among other reasons, when even a single quest is bugged or glitchy, you cannot progress.

To ALL of the uppity players who think this quest is not bugged and all you have to do is read the quest, Im here to say that it is ABSOLUTELY bugged. Quest was down for an entire day on my server. You'll sit there waiting for quest to start (even after speaking to the purple dude) and nothing will happen.

GM confirmed that its was bugged and they were actively working on it. If nothings happening for you, give it up and switch toons for a while.

Y'know, that annoys me. Indeed, a few times in the Worgen starting quests you are directed to speak to someone, but there is no "!" over the head of the target. Poor design, IMHO.

he dosn't have a ! or a ?, because he's not the questgiver or questender...

as many people have stated, read the quest, it's not rocket science. If you absolutely have to have a huge blatent marker over every single one of your objectives to hold your hand along the oh so difficult journey known as "reading".. well, y'need to learn to think for yourself... IMHO.

Ok I went AFK during this quest, got killed, and logged out. I logged on later, and everything was done, but I never got the quest complete. I had to run around and die many more times, swim, backtrack, and finally came to the entrance again. No one was there. So I abandoned the quest... Bad move lol.... Not sure what to do now.

This quest is bugged beyond belief, I don't care what some of you say. The beginning, IS fixed. After speaking to the original quest giver, you talk to the scientist dude to the right of the bridge (read above for exact location) and follow the soldier dudes into the city. Good luck keeping up with them after you reach the first cannons. Eventually you can find your way into the Square where Sylvanas is, but everything froze up for me after that. My army disappeared, Liam and his father were still standing there but NOTHING was happening. I sat and watched Sylvanas twitch for awhile until I finally logged. When I came back, she was gone and THEN the question mark on my mini map showed up where Lorna was. After speaking to her, I followed Tobias to Cathedral Square THREE times (lost him twice). Made it back to Lorna again but she was frozen. C'MON Blizzard. Fix this crap! I'm getting ready to ride the bat now but if it gliches again, I'm done with Worgen for GOOD.

Actually, this quest and the ensuing ones are exceptionally bugged - after completing the battle oftentimes Lorna will simply not show up in her right spot, oftentimes getting bugged on her run up the street. This is a travesty of programming.

What the hell is up with this quest? I've been trying it for two day now and still can't proceed. The yellow question marks appears after the final 'battle' but the NPC is nowhere to be seen.

How are you supposed to continue? I've tried logging out and logging back in, nothing. I must've tried it at least 30 times now, and still the same bloody thing.

While reading notes after battle everyone else disappeared. So I died. Then came back in a safe place and ran to inn using the alleyway beside the canal. Door is open on canal side of building.

quest is bugged on stormrage non-pvp server. you get the quest, then you try to talk to the krennan guy, but the only thing he says is: "our men are regrouping. they will be ready for battle in mere minutes." with no option to start the quest available.

i've been sitting there for minutes, tried logging off then back on, also tried to abandon the quest and get it again, but nothing seems to work. i'm contacting a gm about this, but the queue is soooo long!

This quest is completely broken. I read the quest, talked to the right people and all I get is the same regrouping message as the other guy. I can't join whatever group is doing the quest currently. I went into the city and the friendly NPCs are just running in circles. I tried to run to the end to the quest turn in and there are just a ton of mobs that wreck me.
I can't leave the area until this stupid quest is done, the least they could do is insure it works. I liked the rest of the starting area, but this has completely ruined worgen for me.

Some of you have said all it takes to start is talking to Krennan, but sometimes that's not enough. I accepted the quest, then went and talked to him, he said the troops were regrouping and would be ready in mere minutes... 25 mins later he was still saying the same thing. I abandoned the quest and restarted, same thing. I tried several times in and out of shapeshift (leveling a druid), in human form and worgen, still nothing. So this quest is officially broken on Bladefist US.

The quest does appear to have a bug in it. Rather than just complain on Wowhead, though, I put in a ticket with Blizzard (they said they were investigating it). But, I also posted the problem on the bug report forum. Several hours later, I logged back on to my level 12 worgen toon, accepted the quest again (I abandoned the quest earlier and parked the toon right in front of the quest giver) and ran it. Magically, I was able to complete the quest successfully.

The issue appears to be with Genn Greymane. You get to a point where there's a gate to the left and a right turn will take you to Sylvanas. You'll notice that if the quest is bugged, Genn doesn't come through the gate with his mob of Gilneans. If you see him coming through the gate, as he did this last time, then the quest will complete successfully.

Whether my pointing it out to Bliz (I noted Genn in the comment on the forum) had anything to do with the quest suddenly working or not isn't necessarily the issue. Another thing that happened between my last unsuccessful attempt and the successful attempt was that Bliz did server restarts so that may have "fixed" the glitz. If that's the case, it's not a bug per se. It's more along the lines of something getting hung up.

I rolled another worgen and the glitch reared its ugly head again. This time, however, I redid the entire quest and watched for anything unusual during the final battle. While using the AoE that rallies the troops, on the mob that was around the villainess boss, I noticed that her health was around half way before I used the AoE and when I used it, she suddenly went back up to 100%. Ah hah!. So, I just didn't use it any more and the quest completed without further trouble. In order to avoid the glitch, don't use the AoE at all during the final battle.

This quest is bugged, but sometimes not impossibly so... I got stuck on the part where Genn is fighting Sylvanas. Suddenly, Genn and the other NPCs disappeared and I'm stuck in the courtyard looking at Sylvanas and her banshees all alone. I logged out, abandoned quest and logged out again and eventually went all the way back to Lorna to get the quest again. Then the quest went off without a hitch.

Once you find the guy who triggers the start of the event this quest is as easy as anything. I'm now certain that you don't really need to use the rapier during the quest to finish it, since several people have posted that they didn't even bother, but I thought it was fun to see all the green floating numbers. I also put a few blows in when the group I decided to follow through the battle (Liam's group btw, easiest to follow since the horse was easily recognized even in a large group) were fighting a boss, but I also am playing a character with range ability and I got bored just watching them all fight. Throwing a few blows helps this go a bit faster, by now your character should do more damage in one hit than the battle group around most monsters. However smaller monsters would generally die before I could even target them so just sit back and watch those.

i just went through this for the second time - used a catapult which seemed to knock about three minutes off the time to kill the big bad guy - right to the square -- i just kept using the rapier to 'inspire' the good guys - after dying six times trying to get to the inn, this last time, as soon as the good guys disappeared, i went around back/canal side to the inn - crowley was there - greyed out ? over her head -

ALL SHE SAYS is this is not over - and the quest cannot be completed - who here is saying they actually turned in the quest to her ?

seems bugged as hell to me .... so now i can't continue with the worgen character .... pretty damn sucky ...

This quest wasn't bugged for me (fixed in 4.1?), but it was annoying. I think that either the battle should be a scripted event or there should be something clearly defined for the player to do. It's confusing. Where am I supposed to be going? Am I supposed to be attacking the mobs, or just waving my rapier about? How can a rapier be a targetted AOE? Who am I supposed to be targetting with it? (The answers are, I think, that you should follow Liam around as best you can, you needn't do anything at all, but you can use the rapier and/or attack the mobs if it makes you feel happy, and the rapier is an AOE heal which you should target at your allies. At two points there are siege weapons for you to use, although whether this actually effects the outcome I'm not sure.)

If you are still having problems with this, submit a petition asking for them to complete the quest for you, given the bugs in the quests, GMs have been authorized to complete certain worgen intro quests (this is directly from a GM that contacted me in game).

The issue seems to be tied to Lorna's father dying in the Gorerot fight. Every time he dies (i.e. you take to long to kill the big guy) she doesn't spawn in the inn.

To complete the quest, just follow Prince Liam around. A lot of it is killing everything in your way. The only parts you should pay attention to is killing the abominations with the cannon (they will say something like "This is a gift from the people of (whatever town you saved from being enslaved miners)" and its just plain fun, and the Gorerot fight (to prevent the bug). You should also get a few hits in on Sylvannas, as you aren't going to be able to punch her in the face again until much later (and if you can get a group to fight her).

I just ran this twice after it bugged out on me the first time at Sylvanus.

2nd time WORKED LIKE A CHARM - here's what I did:

1. Man the cannon to kill the abominations in the street, then use the catapult (which you can roll around for a clear shot) to destroy the huge abomination. Other than that, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO ANY FIGHTING

2. Use the rapier every time it's cooled down, it increases the defender's health regeneration - KEEPING AS MANY ALIVE IS KEY

3. When you get to Sylvanus, let the defenders do the fighting - USE THE RAPIER TO KEEP THEM ALIVE

The Liam dies, fights over, quest turn-in is in the inn behind where Sylvanus was - WIN!

PRE-QUEST READ I tried this once spamming Rapier of the Gilnean Patriots and when we got to the end, everyone and everything just disappeared, i had to abandon the quest and start at that step again, time wasting bug. after i was able to start the quest again easiest way i found to do this is i just spammed Rapier of the Gilnean Patriots again every time it was up from CD, if you spam Rapier of the Gilnean Patriots and hit it on the bigger groups of warriors then you have a much better chance on surviving as Rapier of the Gilnean Patriots is a heal ability and you want to keep as many as of the warriors alive as you can then presto end battle, the banshee queen gets away and quest is completed.

Quest is fixed. It's so much fun. Stay with the army. Don't start any fights. Remember to bolster the troops when fighting bosses. At Rotgut you can man a catapult, which has limited health. I thought it was my health failing. When it dies, just jump on another one. I was running with other Worgans eventually, doesn't matter if you lose the main army, stay with a fighting group and keep going. Fun!

I’m really sorry for the long post.

As of June 2011 (half a year since Cataclysm was released), this quest is still bugged on Chamber of Aspects EU (at least it was for me). Yes, I realize at times one experiences issues owing to their own idiocy, but this time I really think there’s a bug. Took me three times doing this quest to get it to work. When I did the quest, I followed the Gilnean militia as indicated, used the item to heal the group, used the catapults when necessary, even raid marked the leading NPCs to make sure I’m not randomly losing them. Went fine till the battle at Sylvanas, which started out fine but then at one point, almost the entire Gilean militia simply vanished and the forsaken army also vanished, and all who remained were Lady Sylvanas flanked by her banshees. There were two worgen left from my militia who were uselessly batting at one of the banshees who was not attacking back, no one taking any damage, and a bunch of the human gilnean militia remained all stacked on top of one another and not moving. The quest did not show ‘failed’ for me. I waited for about 10 minutes and nothing happened. Then I went on here to read the comments left by others about the bug. I dropped the quest and ported out, ran all the way back – and here’s something else weird – almost (but not all) the NPCs were gone from the villages, both good and bad guys, no mobs, nothing but a few of the class trainers. Well, before I even picked up the quest again, the entire Gilnean militia was out there waiting outside the city gates (the first time I did the quest, the militia only appeared after I picked up the quest).

Well, I picked it up and went in again, got the same bug the second time. Opened a ticket to speak with a GM, and the wait time was “one day, one hour.” (Incidentally: it is now over one day, one hour later since then and now the wait time is “ten hours”). I went in a third time, maybe it was because the third time I managed to die during the battle, or not, no idea, but that time the quest ended normally and I was able to hand it in.

All and all, I’m not trying to whine or @#$%^, but I’m kind of surprised at the worgen quests. Maybe this is because I’m an idiot or something, but I’ve been playing WoW since the original beta for the game and some of these quests really had me going ‘wtf, Blizzard?’ I can see the rationale behind having this restricted starting area where you can’t leave the place and have to follow exactly the questline they want you to follow and only be able to go to certain areas when you’ve completed such-and-such things, but I personally find it pretty annoying, and it gets problematic when a quest cannot be completed due to being bugged and the wait time for a GM is over a day, and you can't proceed beyond that point for over a day as you have to do that exact quest chain (not to mention that when what appeared to be a bug in the quest leading to there not being NPCs elsewhere – unless that was caused by something different – and it didn’t seem to be a horde invasion or anything – then that would make others unable to complete their quests and proceed beyond their point as well due to mobs being entirely missing). The quest that followed after that was also kind of wtf as the NPC spawned and took off almost instantaneously and then ran off very fast, it was like nothing I’d seen in WoW before that I can remember.

I also found there were very few repair/sell-to NPCs around in the worgen area compared with my previous experience in WoW, and I had a really hard time locating the priest trainer (/target didn’t work as she was on the second story of a building and when I did /target nothing showed up, and it was not possible as far as I know to go back to the earlier village where there was another trainer).

I imagine if I were just starting out with WoW and was level 12, I would be even more confused about all this.

I tried this quest one time and I got separated from the rest of the group at the abomination part. I heard Gorerot's yell and ran over there. When I got there, Liam was dead and Lord Crowley died soon after. I figured they'd respawn, but they never did.

Also, near the end of the Gorerot battle, the catapults glitched up and said that "Another action is in progress" when I tried to fire. Greymane and everyone else managed to finish him off, though.

We finally wound up at Sylvannas with just Greymane and a dozen or so Gilneans left. Sylvannas wasn't doing anything and when I tried to attack her, it said I couldn't attack that target. She was slowly losing health, though. I died three times because none of the NPCs that gave the health buff were alive.

Eventually, everyone just suddenly despawned. Gone. Then Sylvannas and the banshees reappeared (and didn't attack me, thank God!). I managed to run back to where the instance began and heard Liam shout his speech. I joined someone else doing this quest and beat it no problem.

So...Word of advice: stay with the group.

Well since no one else has put any information of any real value except to state the ridiculously obvious in an attempt to make you feel stupid instead of offering any real help, here's what you do.
1 - Once you pick up the quest from Lorna Crowley, proceed up the road towards the bridge where all the people are gathered and speak to Krennan Arannas, who is on the right side of the road immediately before the bridge.
2 - Prince Liam Greymane will do his Winston Churchill impression before leading the charge into the Merchant District. The Gilneans will attack the Forsaken here before proceeding towards the military district.
3 - Wait until the cannons have been brought in to the bottom of the stairs and "mount" the cannon, using it to shoot all of the abominations you can see, even into the distance to the left.
4 - Go into the military district where worgen warriors are fighting and use the damaged Forsaken catapults against the Forsaken Elite Giant "Gorerot."
5 - I followed Prince Liam Greymane to the point where he vanishes. His father King Genn Greymane will appear, yelling "Sylvanas". He and Sylvanas will do battle until Prince Liam appears once more, only to be killed by Sylvanas. The quest ends more or less after this point.
6 - See Lorna Crowley inside the building behind the King to complete the quest.

I know 99% of the people here are talking about how bugged it is, and I'm also incensed myself that Blizz allowed so many bugs in what is otherwise a GOD-AWESOME QUEST.

There were so many things that they did right for this quest - the Liam's war cry, the battle progress, the music (night elf war theme ftw) and the shocking death of Liam Greymane, whom we've come to love through the starting experience.

I was lucky to do this w/o the bug (though I died once from over-zealousness in mowing down forsaken) and I must say that this is definitely one of the best quests ever. It is a high point in the worgen questing experience.

Used forever on this quest, first I did not knew I had to talk to the chemist to initiate, why not tell the prince? Had made more sense if he started the quest and you talked to the prince to start this.

Else Guldarheel made a very good walktrough, will just add that your main task is to keep track of the prince, if you lose him thing might go wrong, keep out of trouble and use the rapier on the group, you are the groups healer.

After you get the quest, talk to the chemist by the bridge, behind the wagen next to the bridge.
Follow the mob, healing with the rapier.
When the canons come out, hop on a canon to kill the abominations.
Follow the mob.
Hop on a catapult outside of the square and kill the monster. It might not die but will lose most of its health when the catapult explodes. Target and shoot. Monstor dies, follow the mob to kill Sylvanis. Sylvanis will disappear, Liam will die and the quest will be complete. Go inside the inn.

Unfortunately, if you are a hunter, there are no decent rewards for you at all. Had the agility mace been an agility staff or polearm, this would not have been the case.

I personally took the cloak, simply because it was an armor upgrade over my white cloak.

This quest is definitely bugged! I've tried doing this quest 3 times on my worgen warrior and I die every time! I finally said screw it and just went ahead. Every time I got to Greymane Court (before fighting Sylvanas) the buff would disappear along with Liam. I couldn't get the buff back so I just started wailing on Sylvanas but of course the undead mobs started jumping on me and without the buff I eventually died before I could drain enough of Sylvanas' health :( It does this every time I play a worgen now, really aggravating!

Still bugged. Just had the entire thing done exactly as required, on my third pass as of 08/11/2011 with nary an addon in sight and again they all fade out just before the big finish. No forsaken or citizenry save for Lorna Crowley and two Worgens for a few minutes then "presto!" and Sylvanas reappears with her minions. Quest remains incomplete with Lorna Crowley so its once again "do not pass go" time. At least the bug has been consistent for me.

What's need here is a portal out of Gilneas altogether for those not wanting their gaming to feel like work. It was neat to see the first and second times but a third leading into a fourth? Not so much.

This sh*t is as derpy as it gets. I honestly feel suicidal at the moment! Not only do you have to wait for all the retarded NPCS with the same AI as a fotball hooligan to clear everything and YES i mean freaking EVERYTHING around you, but you also have to stand around hammering buttons for two or three minutes to kill Sylvanas.

Ok so the whole event probably takes somewhere between ten and fifteen minutes to finish which makes it a horrible and awfully delayed event even for "rare" items. And once you actually manage to get all this sh*t done the quest doesn't work. And judging from most of the comments it's been messed up ever since the beta.

It feels as if Alex Afrasiabi keeps on putting his middle finger right in my f*cking face over and over just because i decided to try out a few alliance races for a change. No wonder alliance players keep whining about blizzard favouring the horde faction.

I could turn the quest in after another 3 tries. Well worth waiting thoose 50 minutes for 1300 experience points and a cloak with 4 intellect!

If Lorna Crowley dies during the battle simply wait on the first floor of the Inn for her to respawn, which takes around 3-5 minutes at the conclusion the conversation following Sylvanus' departure.

This quest does have some kind of bug in it, I got all the way to Genn Greymane battling at the end and instead of it going onto the next part of the quest it faded all the Gilneans and left my druid standing surrounded by Sylavanas and a group of the undead, and it's not the first time it's happened wither. Damn annoying!

I also encountered a bug that it looks like more like a failure in the quest, while i was fighting Gorerot, Lord Darius Crowley died, after i killed this big and ugly thing the npcs run away, disappeared and after 5 secs the entire place reset all undead mobs respawned instantly and i had hard time getting back to the bridge.
When i got back to the bridge i started the quest all over again.

I've had quite a lot of trouble with this quest...
The first part of the quest isn't that hard, talk to the person that calls out your name to start the battle, listen to Liam's speech and follow him inside, fight a few mobs (or just inspire your troops, they'll do the fighting for you.
Get in a catapult to defeat the large abomination with the insane health (not, you can also just attack him yourself, but it's a lot slower...

Then you end up at Sylvanas, that's when my quest first bugged, everything disappeared and I couldn't find my troops anymore, so I used my hearthstone and walked back.
I talked to the person again that shouted my name before and ended up in battle again. This time I could get passed Sylvanas and complete the quest, but the questgiver never showed up.
After waiting a couple of minutes she was finally at the place where she was supposed to be and I could complete the quest.

This quest can be a bit confusing to start, so when you accept the quest you have to speak with the Royal Chemist to the right in order to actually start it. Don't go running around trying to get to the quest area and don't sit waiting for the quest to start on its own.

I've done this quest a number of times without problem. But this last time I just can't, tried 3 times. Two of the times, everybody has died by the time we/I get to Sylvanas, and once everybody just disappeared by the time two of her three buddies were down. Gonna try again after next maintenance; if it won't work the character is so gone.

I must say, it is the most poorly thought out quest line (including Keel Harbour which is also bugging). It has ruined what should have been a great experience for my Son and the response has been 'oh yeah we know'.

No matter how many times you post on the forums or lodge a ticket, the GM's have nothing to say, because there's nothing they can do. It's all about the Dev's who clearly don't care.

The start point of this quest appears to be inaccurate. The start point is useful to know if you have to repeat this quest (after err um failing it the first ... um several times), as I have. Using the City map displayed on this page the actual start point is in the upper right hand (North East) corner. Near where one of the ramps exiting the city is. I suspect this incorrect location was a result of using the correct coordinates but using the wrong coordinate system. The coordinate system in Gilneas the City is different than that in Gilneas the continent. The coordinate number pair you see when you mouse over the start point (!) is correct but the location displayed is for the city coordinate system. If you exit the city (your map changes to view of the entire continent) the coordinates would then place the start point where I mentioned. And this is where the quest giver is located.

Stay with the Prince to keep the healing buff and when you reach the final boss, stay away from the final boss and you get the quest complete. Once the Prince dies go into the inn and wait, she will re spawn and you can turn in the quest

I've done this quest several times now. When the worgen were first on the scene, there was a glitch where the guy on the horse (I forget, Liam? Genn?) would enter the square for the final battle and he'd run towards the gate out of the city and disappear. We could never complete the quest then.

The glitch seemed to be fixed for quite a while and then, this morning, it happened again. At some point in the battle, I got the splash screen and then got sent back to the beginning. So, I did it one more time before reporting it. Again, the guy on horseback disappears and I'm like 'oh great, here we go again'.

I logged off, waited a few seconds and then logged back on. The battle was still in progress and I can't say for sure that this helped at all.

However, when I used that battle aoe, that you use during the fight to rally the troops, for the first time, the villainess on horseback was getting close to half health when I used it and then she magically healed to 100%. Ah hah! So I just stopped using it on anyone and her health again started to go down and the quest completed.

You don't have to do any damage to any of the NPCs yourself at all during the entire sequence. I used the aoe a few times early and used a cannon and a catapult. But to play it safe, try not using the aoe at all during the final battle.

I STARTED each fight with the guy on the bridge, went through the motions killing everything in the city, and when I got to the final part the "boss" lady kept healing herself and then the event ended and I was teleported back to the bridge to start all over. The GM says it's on a timer but I say crap because you can't complete it.

I was fighting Sylvanus near the end of the quest and I kept on using Rapier of the Gilnean Patriots and that was healing the millita but every time Sylvanus was one fourth, give or take a little, of the way down, she would instantly go back to health. this happend about three or four times until i was teleported to the livery outpost and had to redo the quest. Any ideas on what happend?

Some notes I would add to everyone's helpful comments after doing this quest myself:

First thing I would say is put a raid marker on Prince Liam. I lost him several times and had to restart the quest. Make sure you keep with him up until Sylvanas, at which point STOP using the heal - or rather, make sure to only use it on the Gilneans far enough away from her. If she gets inside the buff circle, she will heal too, for very large amounts!

Also, during the Goregut encounter I had an issue with the catapults giving me an error message and refusing to fire. Quickly relogging fixed the issue, and the fight was still in progress so I was able to continue unhindered.

Lorna was there for me once the quest completed, but from what everyone has said she will respawn anyway if you wait for her inside the inn.

While it is a bit of a temperamental quest, it seems to me that most of the problems aren't exactly bugs but inherent problems with the AI. Either way, once I did manage to get through it, it was a very enjoyable experience!

OK ... so after all this time I think it is important to distill some of the reasonable information that has been posted along the way and give a summary of what to expect when rolling a Worgen and trying to get through this quest.

The short answer is YES, the quest is bugged (still, always, and probably forever)
The slightly longer answer is that there are a number of different things that can go wrong during the event, any of which can result in not being able to complete it.

Basically what it boils down to is, don't give up. If something goes wrong along the way head back to the beginning and either restart it (if the army and NPCs respawn on the bridge) or abandon the quest and pick it up again from scratch.

I have done this on 4 different toons now, and not once have I been able to complete it in a single pass ... before the flaming starts, I do know all the glitches that will wreck the event, but it's not actually possible to personally handle them all. Some of it relies on the NPCs doing the right thing, and they just don't always do it.

I really don't see any merit in detailing the various glitches, however some general tips should definately help.
1) Put a raid symbol on Liam and stay with him. If he stops, you stop ... if he moves you follow. If he disappears suddenly, wait a few minutes and then head back to the start.
2) Use the Sword buff on your troops, it will greatly increase the pace of the event. DO NOT use the Sword buff anywhere near the hostiles, it will apply to them. This is counterproductive, and in the case of Sylvanas will keep her at full health indefinately. The buff has a targetting circle, as long as no hostiles are in the circle let 'er fly.
3) Use the cannon on the aboms
4) Use the catapult on BIG UGLY (you knock off ~4k with each shot)

and most important, relax and smile ... it's a game :)

Some handy hints to do this in one go when it's buggy / glitchy:

1. Put an icon on prince Liam or set focus on him, or do both. He is easy to see because he is the only one on a horse but it's nice to see where and when he stops. You want to stop when he stops, go when he goes. He runs back and forth a few times in the same area, that's not a glitch, that's just how he rolls.
2. Don't go DPS crazy, this is more of an 'observe history in the making' event. You'll aggro some mobs running past them but just stick on Liam like glue and he'll take care of those aggro mobs. If you do fight you can run the risk of losing Liam and the event does bug if Liam has run too far ahead of you. I only fire on the Gorerot fight. I never use the catapults I just auto fire and go and get a drink but use them if you want to (just saying it's not essential.) After Gorerot Liam will run around in a loop then go back to the Gorerot section and just sit there for what feels like forever.... he's just catching his breath he'll take off again, be patient.
3. RAPIER = This is what glitches the event most of the time because it looks as if it also gives Sylvanas the buff and she speed heals. Because of this I use it well before we reach Sylvanas and then I don't touch it at all after I leave Gorerot's area.
4. Just saying prince Liam will run into a gate and despawn. This is not a glitch (been reading comments on here it's a bug & it's not.)
5. SYLVANAS = What you need to do in this area is NOTHING. Once you enter Sylvanas area & prince Liam despawns, don't do a single thing, don't even go near her. Sit away from the action. I personally sit on the rat near the gate Liam despawns at. If you try and get involved, as in killing things, shooting Sylvanas, stand near the action or even use the rapier you will glitch the event and you will have to do this all over again.

(I've done this a few times now & when it doesn't bug you can get more involved but as it always seem to bug, especially right at the end, following the above advice will get you through in one go without having to worry if the event is buggy or not.)

The Battle for Gilneas City: Reduced Sylvanas and Gorerot's hitpoints. Rapier of the Gilnean Patriots no longer heals enemies.

So hopefully this unbelievable 'OMG-WTH-@#$#' quest angst is a thing of the past, if not just follow steps 1-5 and you'll be right.

Liam ran into the gate and despawned for me too. I simply turned around and walked back towards Sylvanas and it froze me for 20 seconds and completed the quest.

Having just wrestled with this chain, I thought I would share some tips on this part and some of the later parts too. Given that this quest is in a starting area, I'm offering these tips from more of a beginner POV:

The Battle for Gilneas City

After you accept this quest, as others have said, type /tar Krennan and look for the green dot on the mini-map, run over, right-click on him and click the chat bubble to get the event started.
Type /tar Liam and then set your focus (/focus if you don't have the key bound) That will keep Liam as a green dot on your mini-map, but you can also target other things.
Follow Liam around. Attacking the "Filler mobs" is pretty much optional, just use the Rapier item occasionally to mass heal your allies.
When you get to the part with the abominations, use the cannon to blow them up. Also watch where Liam is and be prepared to jump out of the cannon quickly (The big red arrow button on the vehicle toolbar) so you can chase after him
When you get to the part with the ugly monster mini-boss, jump in any of the vehicles in his immediate area and throw flaming rocks at him until he dies. Note: After the monster dies, if Liam runs in a very fast circle through the streets and back to where the monster was killed and then does nothing, you'll want to quickly log out and back in.
Then there's some shouting, you follow Liam and his father and Sylvanas appear. You want to kill the three Banshees ASAP and then attack Slyvanas. Remember to use the Rapier to heal your allies. If after you kill the Banshees Sylvanas' health suddenly resets to full for no reason, then quickly log out and back in. You may want to just do this anyway before engaging the banshees in the first place.
After the quest completes, if you don't see a yellow ? on your mini-map or you can't turn in the quest... again, quickly log out and back in.

The Hunt for Sylvanas

You'll want to do /tar Tobias and watch the mini-map to see where he goes, and just follow him.
When you get inside the building and he tells you to get in the water, you want to go to the curved railing on your right and jump over it.
Wait for the scripted scene to play out and once the quest completes you'll need to swim/run at the railing and keep jumping while running until you get out of the water, then you can jump over the rail and head left out of the building to return to where you started.

Knee Deep

Before you head down the tunnel, make sure to drag the torch to your action bar and spam that button while running madly, otherwise you'll get overwhelmed pretty quickly

Endgame

Yes you really do have to just wait around until Tobias says ready, then click the Hippogryph
Once you get to the gunship, start killing orcs and watch for Lorna to yell things
When she yells about ropes, click on either one of the two yellow circles on the ground (They're coils of rope)
Then kill things in the area of the "command room" (the little room down the short ramp) until she yells again and then follow her down the long ramp into the hold
Kill the big orc (If a big orc doesn't spawn, this is another 'Quickly log out and back in' situation
When she yells about using the Wyverns, you don't actually have to do anything, so just wait until it completes

Overall this is a cool "set piece" way of finishing the area. Some of the bugginess and lack of quest direction hurt the experience though, so hopefully this mini guide can help bring the fun back.

The Quest is definitly flaky .. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt work at all on some servers. Blizzard GM was very helpful. Chatting with them inside 2 minutes of posting a ticket. They let me bypass the Quest without any problems .. :-)

Still bugged. Did it yesterday. Got the credit for finishing when Liam died, but Lorna was nowhere to be seen.

Also. If you take too long, the quest resets and you get sent back to the start!

If you lose too many men, the final battle will take too long. Also, Sylvanas seems to heal herself on occassion, and she might actually be affected by your sword buff.

Tips:
1. Stick to Liam during the battle. When he's too far you'll lose the buff and probably die horribly
2. Use your sword to keep the men (and women) alive.
3. Use the cannons against the abominations and the catapults against the giant thing.
4. When arriving at Sylvanas, don't actually fight (you'll probably won't have the buff anymore at this point), but just use your sword untill the banshees are dead. Don't use your sword on Sylvanas.
5. Get lucky, and Lorna will spawn after completion.

So many problems with this quest. In the last two weeks I have attempted it 5 times.
First time it bugged out 3 times and threw me back to start. GM just said -- oh yes it does that sometimes -- you just have to do it again.
Second and third times I stayed close to Liam ( always put a marker on him ) but suddenly, at different points mobs turned on me and killed me very fast.
Fourth time I got to sylvanas then thrown out again.
Fifth time another player was starting it and we actually got to the end, though with several weird bits where the npc's just stood still for 4-5 minutes.
I am about to try it on an ironman toon so hoping for the best.

This quest can be EXTREMELY buggy.

So at first I went through the quest well, but occasionally, there would be random pauses before anyone did something, ranging from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. We got to Sylvanas, and when we got her down to 66%, I got a loading screen and appeared back at the beginning of the quest, forced to do it all over again.

Also, careful with the rapier. It affects Sylvanas, healing her to full HP in a few seconds.

Here is what a walkthrough of the working quest looks like:

1. Talk to Krennan Aranas to start the event.

(Buff people with the rapier if you want but you don't really need to. You'll also notice that self-HoT on you so you don't need to do it to yourself.)

2. Follow Liam around the city.

(Again you don't really have to fight if you don't want to.)

3. At some points he may disappear to do the next thing, so you'll also definitely want to follow the crowd when that happens.
4. You will be led to Gorerot, the huge abomination miniboss. Board the catapults to launch rocks at him. You may need to board a few before he dies because they get destroyed easily. If you notice your hp going down while you're in one, don't worry, it's not you, it's the catapult.
5. Gorerot's dead! Now Liam may stand around for a bit before going on to the next phase.

(By the way, at some point Darius Crowley will have joined you with some worgens.)

6. Follow Liam to Sylvanas.
7. Watch them try to kill Sylvanas. DO NOTHING. DO NOT BUFF WITH THE RAPIER. JUST TO BE SAFE DON'T ATTACK ANYTHING. This is what failed the quest for me because when I healed my npc's around her, I healed her to full health as well.
8. SPOILER: They won't kill her, she'll release a poison arrow that kills Liam instead of Genn. Oops.
9. The question mark appears. Go inside the building nearby to speak to Lorna Crowley and complete the quest.

Most of all, I want to confirm Ozlem's hints. Buffing around her was what failed the quest for me and I automatically ended up at the starting point having to start all over again. So having done both the bugged and non-bugged versions of the quest YES i can confirm the quest is bugged and NO it is not always a reading comprehension problem.

Congratulations! Now you get to do the next ridiculous quest in the chain where you have to follow an npc that disappears almost before you even turn around!

This was pretty disappointing quest design by the way. The only skill is tests is your ability to sit back while twiddling your thumbs and doing nothing. I love lore and story and all but there are probably better ways to incorporate it.

After reading the posts on here, and having it reset six times, I simply decided to do nothing and let the NPCs fight the battles. Would use the rapier during the fights and then sit back. Pulled no aggro and made no attacks.

For the "final" battle with Sylvanus, I simply found a cozy spot under one of the trees right near the fight and just watched. No attacks, no rapier, nothing.

Quest completed perfectly.

This is STILL one ^&*!ed up starter area. I counted 4 different bugs - and they've been reported over a YEAR ago.

Still not working. I went through, got the complete status, saw the question mark, no NPC. While I was looking it up here, I was zoned out back to the livery outpost, where the quest begins. This is the 4th Worgen I have started and every bloody time, this quest breaks. The last time this happened I opened a ticket and the GM said I would have to wait for a server restart. Awesome...

After the current patch the quest seems to be bugging out. After it is started it proceeds as normal until you get to Sylvanaas. Crowley will say the stuff he says when you fight the big undead guy and run off. A few minutes after that the whole quest resets and you're before the bridge leading to the city again. Second time for me now and a guy who was doing it said it was his third time. *sigh*

I don't know why it was marked out of date, referring to Ozlem's guide above, because that's still the way the quest functions. Do NOT use the rapier near Sylvanus, because she will also gain the buff.

The only thing I would change is that, after trying five times with my latest Worgen, I find that it's absolutely necessary to use to the catapults. I tried to do it without attacking Gorerot, and just followed Liam. It appears that the event is on a timer. If you don't use it on Gorerot, the timer runs out and you will have to start all over again. Nothing went wrong that I could see. I was simply following Liam, and I had to start all over again.

I did also use the cannons, however, I don't know if that's necessary or not. I only noticed that without using the catapults, the fight with Gorerot seemed to take an awfully long time.

If are are having trouble with the quest reseting on the Sylvanas fight just let the NPCs beat her, do not attack, or even buff/heal, I had this issue 5 times -- On the sixth time I did this and finally completed it.

still bugged :( im trying since august and no luck..ive tried all possible ways and nothing, resets always because sylvanas doesnt loose health. ive opened a ticket.

Still difficult to start as of today's date-- several other players were wandering around aimlessly with me before I checked this page. Once inside, everything went smoothly up until Sylvanas, as she kept regaining health, but both other players and I were confused at DPS-d and tried the buff on the king. Eventually we gave up and the event proceeded. Quest turn in was not available until logged out and then back in.

The subsequent quest is also rather difficult to complete... why hasn't this content been fixed in two years?

Still bugged as of 11/23/12. Even worse, since the quest bugs out when *anyone* attacks, and there is CRZ to all hell, any jerk can make you have to restart the quest over and over again. About an hour wasted here, just trying to get out of the stupid zone.

Not rolling Worgen ever again simply for this.

This quest bugged after I completed the whole battle. The quest turn-in inside the inn didn't appear. I was ported back to the start and had to run through it again and was able to get it done fine.

Whatever you do .. DO try NOT to die. It is a frigging nightmare trying to work out "what next".
If you res at the graveyard you get killed.
If you go back to find your body then you probably won't find anything at all.
If you try to get in around the path that appears to lead to the fighting, chances are you won't find anyone.

In the end, I cancelled the quest and started again.

When you get to the part with Sylvanas wait at the back where Liam despawns. Whenever I tried to get closer during the fight the whole thing would reset and I would be sent back to Krennan Aranas.

After the third time Liam's speech losses its charm.

I have tried to do this quest several times today. Each time it will suddenly stop and reload me at the starting point. This occurs during or immediately after the fight against Gorerot. What am I doing wrong? I have read a lot of the comments and people are mentioning bugs but no one seems to have this issue.

OK, I entered a bug over on the wow forums. Someone posted there that getting ported back to the start and having the quest reset is not actually a bug. It's because there's a 15 minute timer. If you have not killed Sylvannas within 15 minutes, you will get ported back and the quest will reset. I have not seen this mentioned in any of the comments, so wanted to make sure everyone knew this.

This explains why it happened to me at two different points on two different tries.

don't go in front of the prince he will aggro the mobs and kill the banshees before they scream silvanas then he will revert to his original position and try to attack silvanas alone what breaks the quest it happens to me sorry for the long explanation

This quest is indeed still buggy.

To start the battle talk to the npc, and wait for Liam and his pals to show up.
If it ports you in mid event - no worries just follow the troops.

It is VERY important that you hang a bit back of the fighting, as Liam and the troops will kill everything for you. The mobs do not drop loot or give exp, so no running ahead and aggroing everything - you'll just die.

You can use the Quest item to boost the moral of troops, but do this occasionally as it can bug the event. I have found that with multiple players using the quest item (Especially during the Sylvanas fight) it can bug out and port all players to the beginning.

There is indeed a timer for this event, and it runs for 15 minutes. If players during the 15 minutes have not completed the quest it will port everyone taking part to the beginning, and it'll have to be re-started.

Players can pick off a few adds, use vehicles, and dps the mini boss, but stay Back from Sylvanas. There is no need to attack her unless you happen to be ranged.

I hope this helps those that have been stuck on this.

This quest is bugged. I've done software for 30 years (I'm 58); the comments preceding mine about "what to do to get the quest to work" are the definition of what is bugged software. I had 6 or 7 failures in this quest in a row, including "start a new character and try again" after a non-correctable phasing error, before getting through on my own. I still have 2 days 2 hours (average) for a Blizzard Rep to deal with the out-of-phase character that is stuck in limbo-land.

This whole quest chain is ridiculous. Do we need a quest chain to determine our human (or other) ancestry? Our Mage (or other) class? Our Blacksmith (or other) profession? Neither do we need a chain taking 9 hours, nor even 3, to become a "Worgen". (anybody claiming less than 3 hours to get from start to "Free Worgen" is dishonest).

I tried this quest half a dozen times yesterday, and another half dozen today. I tried a lot of the things suggested in Wowhead for when it bugged out.... none of which worked.

Finally got mad today and just logged out in the middle of another bugged one, on the bridge to Greymane Court. I went away for about 3 hours, leveling a worgen druid on a different server. Logged back in (after not having any issues with this quest on the other server), crossed the bridge into the Court, and had no further problems finishing the quest; it picked up with Sylvanas, Genn, and Liam just as it's supposed to.

Don't know if logging out on the bridge is the key, but I'll certainly keep that in mind to try again in case it bugs out again!

Help! Please....anyone.....I am relatively new to WOW and definitely new to Worgen...I am trying to complete the Battle for Gilneas but it went all glitchy cos I got involved with Sylvana...now I knw I need to keep away from her...so I abandoned the quest and thought I could just try and take it up again....but everyone's disappeared? Please help I am now stuck with no quests...

I am probably the 100th person to say this... But this is one of the worst quests ever in WoW. Completely bugged. Every time another add spawns the prince runs back to the starting zone. Over and over. So frustrating.

Just stay with the Prince no matter what you do.

I'm having an issue where I abandoned the quest due to it bugging out and now I cannot find the quest giver to re-start the quest and make things right. I have looked far and wide and even submitted a ticket to which I was told to go to icy-veins and check my quest status and here and research info. So far I have not seen anyone with a similar issue. All I want is to get my dude up out this place! FOR REAL!

Tried this today. Was doing fine, but had to switch toons to do a Thanksgiving acheev with a friend. When I came back, the Gilnean force was gone. I looked around for them and when I found them, they were virtually wiped out. Liam (I think) was a Worgen and the small group of survivors was following him back and forth over the same street. If I dragged a mob to their path, they would attack it and resume their windshield wiper impression.

I came here and read some comments and decided to delete the quest. When I did, another player came up and I regretted deleting my quest.

I ran to the starting area, retook the quest and noticed there was no gathering of troops.

So, I logged out and will try again in a few hours.

Tried doing this last night after 7.3.5 dropped. The instance kept resetting once Sylvanas was "defeated". Happened twice in a row. Anyone else experiencing this?

Almost 2019 - This suggestion still works - See POST By Ozlem (45,732 – 26·86·306) on 2012/01/07 - I had 1 strange death (my stupidity) after Liam and a group of militia disappeared in the middle of a buttload of abominations. Could still see Liam's X just around the corner... (Screenshots) Next time got it! Old to WOW (Been gone for years). New to Alliance.

I did this on the 8.2.5 PTR while testing the new worgen models and omg it was bugged as hell. There is no npc called Krennan Aranas as previously stated above, well at least not in my phase. As soon as the prince finished his speech, he entered the city he just phased away. So the first thing i did was run to Gorerot and killed him. Then i ran to Greymane Court as pointed out on the map. King Greyman appeared shouted something, then phased away again. I killed all the forsaken in the area and then the king appeared next to Sylvanas and she became attackable When you kill her she runs off and the price dies. Then the event ends and you should be able to hand in the quest to Lorn Crowley in the house at the back of the court.

Its such a cool questline and a sad story spoiled by phasing and bug issues. I am shocked that blizzard have still not fixed it all these years later.

So, basically, what I encounter now: Liam just vanishes when entering into Gilneas. Thaaaanks?

Anyway, let's proceed, I know where to go. Let's talk about Gorerot, then.

No-one is there. Fine I know what to do, I mount one of those catapults, and try to hit the creature. Which is waaaay more difficult than before, since Gorerot seems to focus me (as I'm kinda alone). Somehow, Crowley comes into the middle of the battle (finally!), saying that Gorerot is too strong and I need to use the catapults (too late, mate).

Gorerot is killed. Let's go to Sylvanas, now.

Same as always: there are way less NPCs than it should. Only Greymane (literally) comes to engage Sylvanas. And the combat is freaking sloooooow. You deal like... 1 damage, and she has +6k. Same for Greymane. On my first try, Greymane litteraly died during the fight. Quest broken, here I am for another try.

On my 2nd try, I could finally turn in the quest, as Sylvanas only had half of her HP somehow, maybe from my previous attempt? It was still ridiculously slow, though.

I wish they could just fix this quest already. I mean, come on, This quest is years old, and is still as buggy as day one. Just, imagine a new player, starting WoW with a worgen. How would they react?

As of this patch, the quest broke and has been fixed a few times...but as it stands, the Militia and the Forsaken don't damage each other any more, the rapier's practically useless...it's actually depressing. Used to be one of my favorite quests of all time, reclaiming the city.

Hoping they fix it back to how it was, because currently it's revolting.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and you can't even 'clear the city' like you once could cuz the Forsaken respawn after a time. There's a lot of strange phasing that happens and I am livid that my favorite quest is ruined :(

How to actually do this after patch 8.2.5 fast and without getting stuck:

Ignore all the RP on the bridge and head straight to Gorerot (he should be marked on your map)
Wait for Gorerot to spawn if he's not there... might take a minute or two, then kill him using the cannons (no need to slow down or wait for any RP here)
Run straight to Sylvanas (you can ignore all the trash)
Kill or CC the three Soultethered Banshees around Sylvanas
Attack Sylvanas until she yells "Enough!" at low health and the quest completes!

The whole thing seems extremely buggy with NPCs spawning and despawning randomly all the time, but since 8.2.5 you can just trigger quest completion rather than having to wait for the actually buggy RP to play out properly. For me this is a very welcome change after all these years since it actually makes this horrid quest very fast to do, and more importantly you shouldn't really get stuck any more.

I've done this MANY times now reliably since 8.2.5 and 8.3 and I've never had any issues getting the quest to complete.

the worsen Gilnead quest line gives this shield after lvl 14, so expect to spend 2hrs to get this for smog

It's been 2 years since they broke this quest. 2 YEARS. I reported it as a bug all that time ago, and nothing has been fixed.

I'm sorry, new Worgen. Watch a video for the old quest.

But for now, just walk through all the mobs. Gorerot is hard to take down compared to how it was, it's painfully slow whether you catapult or not. Kill the Banshees at Sylvanas, and you'll finish the quest. But she will respawn. Which totally makes sense.

But everything hits like peanuts, so you'll be fine.

Seriously though...watch a video on how it used to be, it used to be my favorite quest in the game.
