The ship comes in on the dock where the ship to borean normally comes since your phased as soon you accept the quest.
You need to wait on the roleplay event before the ship comes in.

Make sure when you're on the boat en route that you are not flying. If you are, you might not sink with the boat and ride it back to Stormwind feeling quite silly.

When you accept this quest, you will be in phase.
You must no go to the end of dock, and wait. Soldiers will arrive and whole scene will take place - they will be talking about dragon attack etc.
Finally after some time ship will arrive. Then you will travel to Vashjir - without any loading screen.
At the destination - an underwater creature with tentacles will attack ship and kick you off it into water. At the end Erunak will rescue you - now story continues.

If you don't complete this quest, you'll remain phased. Quests like Rallying the Fleet (part of the Twilight Highlands entry quests) cannot be completed while you have Call of Duty in your quest log.

This quest is bugged. The soldiers line up and get stuck at the end of the dock and never actually make it onto the boat. Then the sea monster doesn't show up once the boat stalls. Way to go Blizzard, can't even make the intro quest to the new zone work...

Make sure you take the ~~boat~~ dock that normally goes to Northrend! I kept flying around looking for a new dock both in beta and in live lol. EDIT: I meant to say dock, not boat. I know it is not the same boat.

When you take this quest, you are phased in the Stormwind Harbor.
You will not ba able to see the boats that normally go to Northrend or to Rut'theran.
So if you don't plan to go straigth to Vashj'ir, don't take the quest.

You can actually complete the quest without waiting for the mercenary ship. I grew bored of waiting for the ship on the Stormwind docks, so I decided to fly there myself. You can make the flight without dying of fatigue, at least with a 310% + 20% Flying speed.

The objective is completed once you touch the water in the coordinates where the ship would normally be attacked by a underwater creature. After that you can continue to Erunak Stonespeaker to complete the quest.

Oce you recieve the quest go to the end of the Norhrend Deck , wait and watch the Story while they wait for the ship with Red and Black sails to come in. Get on Board.

Wait to the very end and the Giant Octypus Legs Grab the Ship. this ship is under water, The Quest completion is inside the sunken ship.

This quest still takes 5+ minutes (10+ ? I lost track) to start, even with Cataclysm almost a year old. Just wait... and wait... and wait.... and the soldiers will eventually come down the dock to star the RP, which leads to the boat coming.

This quest is currently bugged. No comments from WoW Dev either.

Various solutions, but none that consistently work.

1> Try flying to the area. (either by your own mount or by Gryphon)
1a> Swim to the ? and complete.
1b> If you do get a ship and it despawns or glitches, don't ride it back.. Jump off and try step 1a above.
1c> Either port or hearth back and return to SW and try the ship again.

2> If you can't get the quest to work. Abandon. You won't be able to use the ships in SW until you do.

3> You can pick it up again from the recuiter at the begining of the dock if you need to.

If the boat does not come for you, you can get there by flying from the western edge of Dun Morogh. I was able to reach Vashj'ir in 280% flight form with ease.

You will want to have some form of underwater breathing, however.

I was able to complete the quest by hopping a Gryphon from SW to Shimmering Strand and then mounting my gryphon and flying to the location. After waiting about 3 minutes I got a "Completed" message and the ? Appeared.

I flew down to the water, dismounted and swam to the bottom where the ship is. You have to enter the ship through doors on the deck of the capsized (Upside down) ship to turn in the quest. There is enough breath to do this provided you swin down and don't get distratcted by the Vashj"ir Raiders. I was right above the ? when I did this. The path down was clear at this point. To far off of this location and you will encounter the raiders. At lvl 80, they are pretty tuff and if you entounter more than 2 and are lvl 80 yourself you will die.

After turning it in, you get another quest, Sea Legs, where you gather 3 starfish and a counch shell that will get you a permanent spell that allows you to breath underwater in Vashj"ir.

There is enough breath to complete this one as the materials are near at hand and away from attackers. Of course, if other questors are nearby, the materials take a while to respawn so you will have to return to the ship to breath.

The flight path was not open for me so I flew to the edge of Dun Morogh as suggested. It works with 150% flying just fine and the quest completed as I flew over the wreckage. Too bad this quest is busted, I liked being thrown around by a giant monster.

1. for me whent he soldiers are walking down the dock the captain taylor dude isnt with them.

2. Also after all the dialouge, they wait a couple seconds and then respawn.

This quest is bugged as of the latest patch; the boat will not show up, and the NPCs will despawn after discussing boarding a mercenary vessel.

Here is a workaround... sadly, you won't see the great scene that happens once you board the boat... but if you fly to Vashjir (go via Ironforge or you might die of fatigue) and fly to where the quest would normally complete, you should complete it.

WoWhead is not allowing me to post a link to the picture of my map to show where to go, but the overturned boat is in the lower left corner of Seafarer's Tomb in Kelp'thar Forest.

Its not possible to complete as of 4.3.0, so i decided to fly here. I am paladin, with 150% mount, so i flew really slowly. I did not make it here (died of fatigue a moment before vash'jir), but when i released, my spirit was at GY in vash'jir. So i ressurrected and flyed to the place where i got credit for that quest.

So, it's possible to get there even with 150% mount.

Ok guys just to help all the guys out there who can't or couldn't complete the phase quest call of duty.
I personally flew to IF and from there to kelp' thar .But the thing is that the other phase quests such as all or nothing are bugged also ... so the best solution to that is to quest to hyjal for now....

Before 4.3 the buff was on my toon but now it does nto show up... I kept playing with it adding it and getting rid of it (quest) a lot of NPCs go away and come back... the boats jump too its so weird... Im trying a few things but looks like I'm gonna fly there too...

I had the Call of Duty quest in my bag for quite a while. After abandoning it and retaking, the required NPC was there at the dock. Nothing happened for 5 mins but then the event started so it seems that it has been fixed.

Definitely fixed. You just have to wait right to the end of the pier and they should start talking right away. There shouldnt really be any waiting involved beyong you getting there and the convo starting between the soldier and the recruit that are on the right corner of the dock.

Just so anyone confused is clear:

The dock they are talking about is the same dock that the boat to Borean Tundra appears at. When you talk to the recruiter, you are put into a phase that will cause the mercenary ship to appear along with some recruits and soldiers. The ship will show up after a couple minutes of waiting around for it with the other recruits. Captain Taylor (he's not an Admiral yet!) will call out that the transport is almost arrived right before it shows up. Hope that helps anyone confused as to which dock they should be at.

Wait patently and don't do anything silly.
The first time i did this i was flying around and blinking all over the place. It took them 10 minutes to show up.
Then i blinked too far and they disappeared.
Had to drop and redo quest, i sit-down and wait and this time they showed up after 30 seconds or so.
Pretty cool really.
I hope Capt. Taylor got a promotion/ knighthood or something. He is a good soldier.

Weird thing to notice, but the Stormwind Soldier that's talking at the end of the dock is clearly voiced by an African American, which we don't hear very often in WoW. Or maybe we do and I just don't notice... ?

As of Patch 6.0.2, this quest is bugged. You do not get phased if you take this quest, hence you can still see the boat that takes you Borean Tundra (it shares the same dock with the mercenary ship).

If the Borean boat arrives the same time as the mercenary ship, you will get stuck on the Borean Tundra ship instead, and you cannot continue the quest.

You'll have to try your luck to time your quest so that it doesn't clash with the arrival of the Borean Tundra boat until they fix this.

Also the cut scene that happens after the ship gets destroyed by the kraken/tentacle doesn't finish properly. You'll have to swim your way to the quest NPC in the water. You shouldn't have any problem doing this when you're level 90. :P

not sure if we still phase, i got on a boat where the soldiers started to talk, and went to northrend... so came back, abanded the quest and wait ALL the conversations to be done wait for captain to say all IN.and careful: BOTH northrend boat and this one overlaps!

Okay, I was able to get on the boat, take the boat, quest completed... then I couldn't turn the quest in to anyone. The ? appeared on my map (along with a ! for a flight master), but both said they were under water, and after spending about 20 mins searching, I gave up. Thoughts?

To find to turn-in for this quest (Erunak Stonespeaker) you have to swim under the sunken ship, into the hold, and then up. There's an air pocket in the upside-down ship.

Accepting this quest (Or perhaps even before you get it from Recruiter Burns in the Harbor), Stormwind Harbor will be phased, and some boats won't come. Either board the merc boat as he instructs (sometimes it can take a few "go-rounds" with the NPCs talking and saying the same things over and over and disappearing, etc) or abandon the quest to get back to "Normal" Stormwind Harbor.

Doing this on my hunter was interesting as me and Muffin got tossed and then the Naga came over to eat us. Muffin was on passive but it didn't matter as I wasn't incapacitated. Waited a few minutes after killing the Naga but no appearance by Stonespeaker.

What you need to do is to swim towards the question mark and the upside down ship on the map. You will have enough air to dive down and there is a pocket of air in the ship itself. If you've unlocked the area on any other toon and have gotten the mount feel free to use it at this time.The next quest you get will allow you breath and walk under water.

At the time of this comment this seems to be the only thing bugged in the intro Vash quests. The boat came as scripted and I was able to turn in Call of Duty.

If the people won't show up at the end of the dock to start talking, abandon the quest and relog, then re-accept the quest. That fixed it for me.

Within a month ago, another alt did this and only got some of the graphics and no guidance to the Briny Cutter. Just did it now and it ACTUALLY WORKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I was honestly quite shocked and surprised that it DIDN'T #$%^ up for once.

Also want to add that while some comments make it seem like the troops are supposed to be at the end of the dock when you get there, what actually happens is that you'll likely get there first, and then after a bit, the troops will come walking down the dock to join you and take their assigned places to talk to each other.

Now, why would the Alliance ride a useless mercenary ship? Alliance warships are better vessels for this quest than a mercenary ship, even damaged warships!

This quest is not bugged as many suggest. There is however an issue with mounts, if you are flying towards the end it will not trigger the event to happen.

Huzzah! No more fifteen-minute pseudo-RP cut-scene thingy!

As of the Legion pre-patch, clicking to complete this quest at the base of the docks at Stormwind jumps you straight to the first quest-giver (Erunak Stonespeaker) in Vashj'ir.

No waiting at the dock.
No NPC fart jokes. No drill sergeant pep talks.
No having to pass the time watching TV with one eye and checking to make sure you didn't miss the boat with your other eye.
No over-long boat ride, no Bad Tentacle Anime scene.

I assume it's the same deal for Horde, but would be nice if someone confirmed.

If you're having trouble getting this quest to work at 100, do the legion questline where you go to the broken shore and confront Gul'dan with Varian, Jaina and Genn, then come back and do this.

Doing this on a 93 alt, I was surprised to instead go into a load screen and spawn inside the ship instead. I would hazard a guess that using the auto-opened portal at the earth shrine would spawn you here, but perhaps a character of the proper level would go through the phase as designed.

I just opened a ticket to ask about the status of the introductory cutscene.
I have confirmation from a GM that it has indeed been completely removed!

Thanks for getting in touch about the Call of Duty quest and cutscene, really sorry to hear you had some trouble with this!

With this quest there were some issues with the cutscene and so it was, unfortunately, removed from the game to resolve the issues we were having. I know that this is frustrating when playing through and enjoying the cutscenes, but the only way to see this now is via one of the videos on a site such as You Tube.

As of patch 7.1.0, the quest is either bugged, either meant to be like this.

After accepting the quest, you get instantly teleported to Vashj'ir, completely skipping the event and everything related to it.

This is an intentional change by the developers as there was some bugs with the transition which caused the quest to bug out for the majority of people. It will likely get put in when the developers manage to fix the bugs. But for the time being there is no way for us to help you to watch the cut scene, other than for you to watch it on youtube (if it is on there). If you are 110 and you have the breadcrumb quests to go to Argus you have to do the quests until you physically get to Argus or you will be phased and not be able to pick up this quest. The same thing will happen if you have the breadcrumb quest The Legion Returns. You will not be able to pick up Call of Duty.

Now fixed in the latest hotfix.
Whilst it lasted it was fun to troll friends with this broken bit of coding.

Unless I was bugged, as soon as I accepted the quest, I ended up in the next part of the quest inside the sunken ship. This may be a new change to speed things up in the 7.3.5 patch.

I missed the cutscene of getting attacked by the squid, but at least it doesn't take forever to get started now.

There does appear to be a glitch where after you zone out and appear near Vasj'ir, the crew of the ship is gone. After the tentacles reach up to grab the ship, instead of a movie showing your character being sent to the bottom of the sea, you are teleported to the ship automatically. Perhaps Blizzard has gotten lazy and didn't want to fix the bugs, so this is their work around.

I had to fly back to the stormwind harbor after I was phased to Vashj'ir. Once I did it put me back on the sunken ship and Erunak Stonespeaker was available for me to turn in the quest.

ok - april 2019 - they have reinstated the boat ride and the tentacles - but once you are grabbed it cuts to you being in the sunken ship - I did have to wait about 5 mins for the boat to arrive at the dock to begin with though

If you are a level 110+ on Alliance and did not do anything involved with Vashj'ir, you have to complete the Argus invasion starting quests and the BfA quests that will take you to Kul Tiras before Burns can let you do Call of Duty. It's a pain, but you have to make sure Stormwind harbor is empty of all the ships that go with Legion and BfA.

My Dk is level 120
I used:

How are you supposed to even get this quest while leveling? I've done the legion intro, bfa intro and anything else that messes with docks and it hasn't popped up, i've checked in cata chromie time and out of chromie time. It's not in the dungeon journal or the quest board either.

Description
