Simply right click on the empty work bench behind the quest giver, then activate the rocket jump ability

Right click on the empty bench. You will become an Iron Rune Construct. Stand on the "base" near the bench and use ability bound on 1 key.

You are flying :) Quest done.

somehow i couldn't leave the golem suit. even tho i don't know what's the "official" the leave it.
anyway, one possibility to leave it, is to use on of the benches in the little camp. the suit will disappear und you are able to turn the quest in.

edit: found that i deactivated the vehicle bar ... didn't found the button on the pet bar as stated in the quest text, so i had to find another way

Actually this is no more of a reference to Iron Man than it is to The Million Dollar Man.
Both involve things like this... and also the quests are references obviously before this.

It's also possible to battle with it, I ran to a nearby shoveltusk and slayed it before I jumped off it and turned in the quest, pure fun :D

If you have a bar replacement such as bartender, disable it. And then you should be able to use the jump, etc. abbility.

I'm using Bartender 4 and I could not see the construct's action buttons with the add-on enabled. I did not try to run the construct using just the number keys with Bartender enabled. If someone wants to try it the actions are as follows:

during Iron Rune Constructs and You: Rocket Jumping, "1" activates the jump function.
during Iron Rune Constructs and You: Collecting Data, "1" activates data collection.
during Iron Rune Constructs and You: The Bluff, "1" activates the MYOB (bluff) function.

For the two follow-up quests, Lightning Infused Relics and The Delicate Sound of Thunder:

"1" activates Jump
"2" activates Collect Data
"3" activates Bluff

Cave is approximately halfway down the scaffolding, toward the left if you are facing the cliff face.

Iron Rune Construct does NOT take damage from falls. You don't have to run around the scaffolding looking for ramps to get down!

Walt at the Explorers' League Outpost in the Howling Fjord wants you to use the Iron Rune Construct's Rocket Jump ability at Walt's Iron Rune Carving.

Dismiss your construct by dismissing it from the pet window once you have completed the quest.

Description

Alright, <name>; the time has come for you to climb inside this thing and learn how to use its basic abilities. When you're ready, get on the work bench and I'll get you situated inside the construct.

Your first lesson is going to be using the construct's transportation system. You'll notice that the iron dwarves have set up special rune carvings around the dig site. Their constructs use those rune carvings to power up and fly from point to point. Try it with the rune carving I built here.
