Felsteel Bar x 2 (done with smelting) = 12 fel iron ore + 8 eternium ore
Adamantite Frame (done with engineering) = 8 adamantite ore + 1 primal earth
Khorium Power Core (done with engineering) = 6 khorium ore + 1 primal fire

Ores required: 12 fel iron, 8 eternium, 8 adamantite, 6 khorium.
Primals required: 1 primal earth, 1 primal fire.

For the Flawless Arcane Essence just go in Terokkar and speak to Sar'this, he's in a tent at 44.7,42.2 kill the 4 elementals and the last one will drop the essence. There you go.

The four elementals you have to kill for this quest are fairly easy and can be soloed by any class. You get a break between all the elementals so plenty of time to eat and drink if needed.

The elementals that Sar'this summons are unlike most elementals in that their melee hits do physical damage. Slightly annoying as a mage (frost ward and fire ward don't absorb the dammage).

They don't do enough damage for it to matter, I just thought it was interesting.

Is this quest bugged for anyone else? For some reason the final elemental, the arcane one, is not dropping any loot for me. It has the sparkles but the loot window comes up empty. Am I doing something wrong?

Just did this quest on my hunter, and getting the Flawless Arcane Essence was incredibly easy. As you start the event, five (not four) elementals will spawn; Air, Water, Earth, Fire and finally the Flawless Arcane Elemental. They all got about 7k hp, and didn't even hit hard enough for me to throw a heal on my pet during or after the fights. Should be soloable by any class of any spec without any difficulties, as you get plenty of time to drink and eat in between each fight, as stated above, if the need should arise.

Got the rest of the items from the AH - money isn't really a problem when you can do ten daily quests a day. :)

Is the reward worth all the trouble? All this seems to give is 7g, and the follow up 12g and choice of vendor greens. The mats seem to cost more than that, in addition to the time you spend doing it.

For those of you without coords. Sar'this is just northwest of Stonebreaker Hold. There are several huts in the area. His is the one with the grand entrance. While standing next to Sar'this, I opened my map and was standing directly over the first line of the 'H' in 'Hold' on the map.

The hardest part of this quest is actually staying there while Sar'this walks around, the elementals are just normal mobs at lvl 70. Not to fall asleep is the true test.

Do the quest event at Sar'this BEFORE collecting all the mats. I got all the materials first, and then the quest event bugged on me. I can't finish the quest. Wasted all that time getting the mats.

The bug is that he is stuck in the summoning animation but nothing gets summoned. I logged out, came back. I dropped the quest, picked it up again. I dropped it, waited two days, picked it up again, came back and he is still stuck in the summoning animation. He will be forever summoning for me. I can't finish this quest.

druids note: like most elementals, these dudes are immune to all your spells except moonfire and starfire.

exception: the last dude, the flawless arcane elemental is immune to all your spells except wrath.

Simple math for this quest (as to whether it's worth it):

Khorium Power Core on my server AH is going for 225g.... Haven't even checked on the Framing (although I understand that the purchase CD from the goblin isn't as bad as the power core). The two-quest chain gives 1k Netherwing rep, whereas the dailies alone give well over 3k rep.

The mere respawn time on the power core keeps this as a very avoidable quest, unless you are so impatient that you don't mind being fleeced, because you could easily find FOUR EGGS to make up for these two quests (and avoid the flight to Area 52 and all that).

Poor quest, mainly because of the availability issues.

While this quest is expensive and/or boring it does lead to a quest where you sit on your flying mount and blast a guy with a laser cannon. I say it's totally worth it.

I just camped out an alt at the area 52 vendor and periodically checked until I got the Khorium Power Core. You aren't going to get exalted overnight with the Netherwing so there's no big rush in getting this quest done. Took about a week before I got it of casual checking in every now and again. Saves a couple hundred gold for what khorium bars are going for on my server.

The frame is pretty common on him and Dealer Najeeb.

Make sure you click on the instructions he gives you, otherwise you won't be able to talk to Sarthis to get the arcane essence.

If you simply don't have enough gold to get all those items, it's ok!
This is my second time doing Netherwing grind, the first one i scraped all the gold together to get it all...
But truth of the matter is it isn't worth the 500 rep. When you can spend another half hour/hour on the ledge hunting down and killing mobs for 2 more eggs...same if not more rep.

I have found this time that there seems to be a larger 100% if not more drop rate on eggs anyways. I used to be able to get 2 maybe 3 on a run through the mines, now i can get 6 to 8.

All in all 500 rep is just a squirt compared to the all up 39000 or so that you have to earn past the neutral status.

This girl is going to save her gold this time round. xxx

This quest and the one after you really should do if you want this rep. The mats are easy enough to get, 2/4 are sold off vendors and the last is easy to get as a miner or buy from the AH.

The essence isn't any harder to get, just go kill 5 elementals. This is basically 2 freebie rep quests.

The location for the flawless arcane essence is 44.4 / 41.2 just nw of Stonebreaker Hold on top of the mountain. It is a small Skettis village.

I was thinking, ok, kill an elemental for the flawless arcane essence, easy enough. It was trickier than that. There is not an elemental there waiting for you to kill him. Find Sar 'this in the biggest hut and talk to him. He will then lead you through a series of rituals starting with the alter and halfway around the lake. You will have to kill one of each level 70 elementals that he summons. He will then lead you back to the alter where a group summons a diamond looking elemental that he joins with. You need to kill this guy to get the flawless arcane essence.

The other items needed for this quest can be found for purchase in Area 52 by Qiff and Najeeb in Stormspire. If not found in either place, contact an engineer or check AH. The felsteel bars from a miner. GL

This has to be the most retarded Netherwing Rep quest of them all, which shows what a true !@#$ Blizzard is.
All of these items, for a quest item you'll only use one time!

If you enjoy throwing your money away to other people so they will make the items (that doesn't include the 20g tip for each item), then do this quest. Otherwise, ignore it and save your money.

Here is what you need:

Felsteel Bars x2 - Buy it on the AH, I paid 65g for one on Draenor server. You can also get this from a miner.

Khorium Power Core x1 - Buy on the AH, I paid 290g for it. You can also get this from an Engineer.

Adamantite Frame x1 - Buy on the AH or get it from Qiff (Area 52, Netherstorm) or Dealer Najeeb (Stormspire, Netherstorm). This too you can get from an Engineer.

Flawless Arcane Essence x1 - Go to Terokkar Forest, just behind Stonebreaker Hold. Find Sar'this, speak to him and start a little eskort quest. Walk with him and kill the Air Elemental, Water Elemental, Earth Elemental and then the Fire Elemental. Walk back with him, then they summon the Flawless Arcane Elemental, kill it and loot.

What a pain in the ass this quest was! I camped Qiff all day trying to buy a Khorium Power Core from him, I finally gave up and had an Engineer make one for me...it was about 100g for the mats. However I was able to buy the Adamantite Frame from him for 3 or 4g =) 9/26/13

If You're having trouble with the Khorium Power Core, simply camp the engineering trainer in Orgrimmar and when a lvl 90 goes in ask politely if he/she can craft it for you and maybe offer some gold(have the materials ready).

I have just reached Exalted with the Netherwing Brood (at the time of writing this), and I haven't seen a single Khorium Power Core yet. And while I didn't camp Qiff, I did have my hearth set at Area 52 and checked every time I got there (at least 3 times a day, probably more). And I also checked the AH one or two times a day for a power core.

Now, the character I did this with is on a low population server so that might explain the AH situation but one would suspect that it'd increase my chances with Qiff. But if so, apparently not sufficiently.

Just to give you my perspective on the attainability of the power core.

When getting the Flawless Arcane Essence remember to dismiss your pet if you are a hunter, I didn't and my pet killed the final mob making me unable to loot the Arcance Essence and had to do it all over again.

If I didn't want to get the engineering mounts which I didn't bother with when leveling up, I suspect I'd just skip this quest and the follow-on quest which together are worth less than 1 day's worth of daily questing, as I've already spent that much time researching how to get the needed mats.

I'LL MAKE THE KHORIUM POWER CORE 4FREE!

I had a lot of trouble getting the Khorium Power Core - so I switched my high lvl Herbalism with Engineering to go along with my mining skills. After spending A LOT of money (like 3-4k) buying ressources through AH to advance in engineering skills - I can now create the Khorium Power Core!

The reasons for the high prices on the product is due to the prices a miner can get for khorium bars and primal fires.

For those of you doing this quest now, the point is not to kill him, but to get him to return to the portal.

The ONLY way I've been able to do this, is to strip naked. ANY gear will kill him.
At 110 and naked, he was still taken down to 1 health. Maybe that's what was intended, but any gear and the cannon will obliterate the foo.

Be warned, this was designed as a gold sink, back in the day. It is absolutely not required to get Shadow of the Betrayer. It is absolutely not required to get your Netherwing reputation up to exalted.

It will be quite a hassle too for obtaining all the items given that players rarely linger in Outlands content and/or push through the relevant professions. Multiple trips to Qiff, all the way over in Netherstorm, will be required if gold is a bit tight and/or the Auction House is unable to provide.

That time is better spent farming Netherwing Egg. Hey, The Netherwing Eggs AddOn, by yours truly, and available at Curse might be helpful!

Edit: Assuming gold is not a problem and you were very lucky to obtain the items on the AH, the next step in the quest chain has you over in Nagrand and then back here for the same amount of Netherwing rep gain. A time sink as well. Better to just push on with the other quest chains.

Edit: Farm smart. Strategically farm eggs every few hours / as per my advice elsewhere. Don't fly around getting frustrated.

This is an update made during Shadowlands:

1. If you are looking to complete rep during the BC Time Walking event, this quest and its follow-up will provide 1500 rep. That's the equivalent of 4 eggs (even without Time Walking). If you are a successful egg farmer, it's probably not worth your time and gold. If you're like me, and find yourself competing with dozens of others for eggs and not succeeding, it may be worth considering. Frankly between all the competition for eggs (and I'm a type B personality) and that effing Mulverick quest, I was happy to leave that area for a little while.

2. Qiff (32,66) is the NPC in Area 52 (Netherstorm, a hike from the quest area) who potentially sells the Adamantite Frame and the Korium Power Core. Dealer Najeeb (44,36) is the NPC in Stormspire (also Netherstorm, slightly longer hike) who sells the Adamantite Frame. The frame is 4 gold if you don't have rep with their respective factions. Took about 3 minutes to take a flight to Qiff from Shattrath. A brief time later, found Najeeb, and got the one frame in their inventory. The frame is a limited inventory item, so if they don't have it, you can either wait till later or try the AH. If you have some of the methods for quick portals to your faction's main city (Stormwind for me, I have all the guild rep cloaks), you can port to SW and use the SW portal to get back to Shattrath. Much faster return to quest area if you have that option. Qiff rarely has either item from what I gather, and he did not have either on my routine checks for a few days during Time Walking.

3. Check with your guildies. Usually one or two are hoarders (like me) and have items lying around. You're also likely to find a guild engineer who can make the items for you. Me, I have a spouse who thinks engineering in WOW is the bomb. (Literally, he likes making bombs, gnomish army knives, and a whole host of weapons. I think I should be worried). I just dragged his butt out of Div2 for 10 minutes to make the Core after I found the mats on my alts (again, HOARDER).

4. The Flawless Arcane Essence drops from a Flawless Arcane Elemental. He is summoned by Sar'this in Terrokar Forest (44,42; inside a tent/building) after Sar'this takes you on an excruciatingly slow trip around his domain summoning Air, Water, Earth, and Fire elementals. None of it is difficult for a max level player. Just be prepared to find entertainment for the time between spots you're fighting. Total time was about 5 minutes.

5. The Felsteel Bars should be the easiest of the items to obtain, either by AH (yeah, not cheap) or an alt miner or guildie/friend who is a miner. Or (as I've mentioned far too much) a friend who hoards everything will probably be able to help you out.

PS: If you haven't started the rep grind for Netherwing, wait until a BC time walking event. The starter quest line will get you to revered! It's worth the wait. Even better, use a human character during time walking.

After months of playing I still don't have Outland engineering maxed because the mats are so rare to find and I refuse to pay for them. Even if the quest boosted me straight to exalted I wouldn't give this guy any khorium.

Description

Reth'hedron now lords over the Twilight Ridge of Nagrand. An eredar of such power being loosed upon this world does not bode well for the Illidari. Alas, we do not have the resources required to slay Reth'hedron. Not with the war the Sha'tar have brought to the Black Temple. No... I have a better plan.

You will subdue Reth'hedron, banishing him back through the Twilight Portal. For this a soul cannon must be fashioned.
