The War Planning Map appears in your Garrison when you reach level 100. It offers a choice of daily quests, either a solo quest or a group quest (may be PVE or PVP). These quests tend to be a bit larger size projects.

These quests are a great way to collect Apexis Crystal which is used to buy powerful gear upgrades and a few other goodies. Check out the tabs on the Apexis Crystal currency page to see a list of the quests that may be offered and the rewards that can be purchased.

To add a bit more detail to my original comment:

The quests offered take place out in various zones across Draenor. There will always be one quest with a reward of 800 Apexis Crystal and one that rewards 1000. You can only choose one of these per day.

When you accept a quest it will name the area that you must travel to. When you enter the right place a progress bar will appear with your interface; once you fill up the progress bar the quest will be complete.

The quests offering 800 Apexis Crystals are much easier to do alone; they typically involve going to a particular area and clearing it of level 100 mobs, as well as interacting with various items that advance your progress. The items you interact with might be chests you can loot, objects you can destroy, or generally anything else you can click on.

Quests that offer 1000 Apexis Crystals work in a similar manner, but typically involve killing level 100 elite mobs. While technically you can probably do this alone it will be quite time consuming compared to bringing a few friends.

For both of these types, keep an eye out for the rare silver elites as killing them will contribute significantly towards completion. Note that these enemies can be tagged by anyone so if you notice someone else in combat with one just jump in and help!
