Ofc guilds gona create workaround of some sort , they will always do it no matter what and its up to Blizzard to stop having this pointless war of private auras , and force us to relive Echo of Neltharion all over again every tier...
it's not an addon arms race.it's addon authors using basic functionality & blizzard turning off basic functionality, time & time again, and it'll continue until we finally hit something that blizzard isn't prepared to turn off.if addons can detect the game environment, then you can use them for gameplay advantage. full stop.everything else is just a question of ease-of-use.
For the private auras: Let's be honest here, RWF guilds will use the most degenerate stuff to get an edge, so seeing this jank of a workaround certainly isn't too surprising. They do have the resources for something as dumb as that, which would be very much not the case for well over 95% of the other guilds that even get to that point. Blizzards wants people to communicate in the raid who is going to soak next. RWF guilds want to automatically tell people who is going to soak next. And Blizzard just didn't consider that you could have Weakauras pick up a chat message send from a macro. You can say "They should have seen this workaround coming", but Blizzard didn't make that addon. So they simply don't know what this thing really can do. And as always, hindsight is 20/20.
