I honestly only ever play Monk when I want an encouraging chat with a talking mount.
Always nice to have inputs about classes on Dragonflight. Could it be possible to have links to other classes so we could find them more easily? Thanks for all your work!
playing Windwalker without Whirling dragon punch ? really?if that ever becomes the right way to build im playing something else.Whirling dragon punch gives the spec a feeling of flow. it's a satisfying closure to a well executed spell sequence.i would hate to see it left out, and i still think it should be baseline.
So on singletarget you go all the way down to Invoker's Delight and for Dungeons through the Bonedust Line I guess?
Instead of constantly changing Hunters, they need to give monks some love, WW's talents are just wonky. Like why is Whirling Dragon Punch still a talent? It makes the spec feel so fluid and I can't imagine ever playing without it. Bonedust Brew is just boring and so is Faeline Stomp. Hit Combo is the dumbest talent ever made and might as well be 6% more mastery. Getting Teachings of the Monastery is hella cool. Rushing Jade Wind looks sick, but is a lackluster skill. Keefer's kinda seems more like a PVP talent but don't mind it. With all the ToD talents, would be nice to see the Legion version back, but the current one is cool too. Why doesn't Last Emperor's Capacitor let you move during CJL yet? I know a lot of people hate SEF and love Serenity, but SEF is sooooo badass, so I hope they give it some more love. Serenity just feels lame versus having clones. Why is an extra roll charge a talent instead of baseline? I don't mind celerity and torpedo being talents but the extra charge just doesn't make sense.
I appreciate the breakdown of “new, from shadowlands, BFA, Legion, MoP” part as well as the OG source, just a nice little summation of where these were from. I’m super excited to see Faeline Stomp back, I like it visually and just find if fun, though I understand certain modes hurt its viability. I’d rather have Weapons of Order back than Bonedust Brew, myself, as I feel like Bonedust Brew throws out the whole ‘weave our abilities together’ mastery idea, and rewards spamming Spinning Crane Kick (if you have enough Mark of Cranes on targets). There are still some changes I’d like to see in terms of talent placements (Roll behind Soothing Mist, Roll Out, Jade Ignition), but I am glad at some of the changes they’ve made since the first release (Emperor’s Capacitor not randomly locked behind Faeline Stomp, as well as the Legendary power back). Personally I think I’d like to see Inner Peace either buffed or removed since 10 extra energy seems like such a let down compared to Ascension. I guess I'm the odd Monk out, as I don't particularly feel attached to Whirling Dragon Punch and depending on how things flow without it, I wouldn't feel upset at not taking it, and if it still fits well, I'll take it.
We don't have balancing or tuning. There are plenty of ways to 'optimize' around talents and builds.Instead of 'What's the best damage possible', play 'What's the best damage I can do while taking my favorite talents' Simulate your talents, your gear, enchants, pots, and make little changes until you get the best version of what you consider fun. It's the difference between 42299 dps and 41840 dps on paper, yet if you're having fun you're more likely to run better numbers than doing something you hate. At least from my experience. The only time it matters is Mythic Raiding and like 20+ keys. And with Dragonflight, you can just save your talent loadouts anyways and swap to whatever you need.
Sadly 50% of the talents don't even work or have weird numbers like glory of the dawn hitting for an extra 200 damage on beta lol
I'm honestly surprised you didnt even mention the fact that on beta currently almost none of the talents are working or at least arent working fully.
Exactly, I was really hyped to test all the ToD talents, escape from reality, the talent that makes BoK hits 2 extra targets to see how it would interact with FoF reset as well as mark of the crane stacks along with AToTM, but none of these work (teachings of the monastery is and feels awesome), which is really sad and unfortunate. Even jade ignition that is working on PTR isn't on beta.
Really hope the ignore mastery and spin repeatedly play style ends up going away. The class is a lot more fun when you're not just spin spam.
"the talent trees benefit Windwalkers greatly and are the reason why many people are hyped for Windwalkers in Dragonflight." I'm sorry, but are we looking at the same talent trees? They were designed haphazardly and talents do not complement one another. It's honestly like playing Plinko from Price is Right hoping your puck lands on a talent you would enjoy while picking random talents on the way down... As I have commented before, take the class tree, for example, you shouldn't have to take Soothing Mist in order to take Roll, Roll is such a core ability to all three specs whereas Soothing Mist is core to MW and situational to WW and if you are using it in BM you are obviously bored with your rotation or have a crap healer. However, Roll is very useful for all three specs equally. Then you take Calming Presence, while 3% dmg reduction may seem helpful to all three specs, its utility in comparison to Roll is non-existent. So why then is it basically at the center of the first tier? Wouldn't it be better to have Calming Presence be where Soothing Mist is, Roll where Calming Presence is, and Soothing Mist where Roll is? That of course is just one example of how screwy the trees are, to have a contributor who supposedly plays Monk regularly say, "the talent trees benefit Windwalkers greatly and are the reason that many people are hyped for Windwalkers in Dragonflight." is honestly quite offensive, while I agree there is potential in the tree, it needs to be reoriented to become what the author makes a claim for, at its current orientation, I am not excited at all playing Monk in DF and may just stick with Ret Pally.
I'm liking most of the changes and options (I'm in the never bonedust camp though). But is nobody going to acknowledge that Fist of the White Tiger is gone? Yeah there's supposed to be that 3 chi modifier to tiger palm that could be seen as replacing it, but not having that button there is gonna feel weird. Always made your opener smoother.
Ya'll need to turn Rushing Jade Wind into a burst CD or just remove it from the game, because it's mud right now
