Hallow's End 2023 Introduction Questline (Story Spoilers)

With this week's Patch 10.1.7 PTR build, new Hallow's End content is available for testing! Included in this week's new build is a new questline that sets the updated story for the event and leads us into the newly revamped Scarlet Monastery. We checked out the questline to bring you the new story!

The questline starts with either Matron Mother Seacole by the gates of Stormwind or Calia Menethil by Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar. The quest

mentions an individual named Thomas Thomson. According to the quest, this has called the attention of both NPcs when a tome belonging to Thomas suddenly dropped to the floor, open on a page with a single name on it. Yours.
For those familiar with past lore, Thomas Thomson was once a Knight of the Silver Hand and after becoming cursed and driven insane in the Scarlet Monastery, he became the Headless Horseman in death, believing that he was alone alive, fighting against the undeath - In his mind, everyone.
We're requested to find Thomas, his ghost trying to send us a message. And we find Thomas by the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades. We find Thomas by the ramp leading to the monastery, along with a bunch of other ghosts.

, Thomas seeks atonement for his sins as the Headless Horseman, starting with his family, whom he murdered in his madness - but his wife, Suzannah, cannot be found, almost as if she never existed. According to Thomas, Hallow's End draws out shades that haunt the Monastery, where they're condemned to walk the grounds and repeat their nightmares.
One of the spirits confronted during this quest is that of Saidan Dathrohan - One of the first Paladins of the Order of the Silver Hand, and murdered by the dreadlord Balnazzar during a mission in Stratholme, with the dreadlord replacing him and corrupting the order from within (until players defeated him in Stratholme during the events of Classic WoW).
We eventually reach a shade replicating Suzannah who confronts the spirit about her own murder.
After this, Thomas requests us to check the fountain at the Monastery in

, which used to be a special place for both him and his family. As we reach the fountain, the real Suzannah arrives - Only for it to be revealed that this was a trap! A Scarlet cultist named Jerome Hayton wanted to lure Thomas's spirit to perform a ritual, where the Headless Horseman would be restored. As we destroy the soulstones fueling the ritual, Suzannah tells us more about Hayton.
Sir Thomas: What is that? It feels... familiar, somehow. Mind taking a look, <Player>?
Sir Thomas: Another twisted shade... wait, it cannot be! Suzannah?
Suzannah: Thomas? Oh no, this is a trap! You need to run!
Jerome Hayton: I knew you would appear, Horseman.
Sir Thomas: Aaahhhgg!
Suzannah: Thomas!
Suzannah: Who are you? What are you planning?
Jerome Hayton: I am a simple believer in the Headless Horseman. By Grand Crusader Dathrohan's will, I shall see him restored!
Suzannah: You! I need your help! Before you arrived, he placed soulstones nearby to fuel his ritual. We must destroy them!

Suzannah: I know that man, Jerome Hayton. He was part of Dathrohan's inner circle. Surely he knows of the Dreadlord's impersonation?
Suzannah: These souls, they're fallen crusaders. Jerome trapped them in the stones, but where did he learn such magic?
As we return to Jerome Hayton, we're unfortunately too late, and the Headless Horseman is once again made. The Horseman immediately claims Hayton's life and flees the area.
Suzannah: Enough, Jerome! You cannot maintain your defenses forever. Release my husband!
Jerome Hayton: You are too late! The power within will no longer be denied!
Sir Thomas: Aah-- Aaahhhhh! Suzannah... flee! GO!
Suzannah: Thomas! No!
The Headless Horseman: From ash I rise, a crusade once spurned! Now all shall soon know of the horseman's return!
Jerome Hayton: At last, you are restored to your former glory! Now, Horseman! Cleanse Azeroth with your purifying flame!
The Headless Horseman: The jig is up, your ruse seen through! I now claim your life, and those of these two!
Suzannah: Thomas!
Suzannah: No...
Before we leave for the next quest, you can read a journal that seemingly belonged to Dathrohan, dropped on the ground near Hayton's corpse. However, we learn that the journal was tampered by, tricking a reader into using Fel magic, likely done by Balnazzar before his defeat.
<You flip through the pages of what the cultist believed to be Grand Crusader Dathrohan's journal, eventually finding the page describing the dark ritual.
Diagrams and lists detailing the original ritual fill the page. The blood of a holy warrior fuels the magic necessary to mold a tormented soul into a powerful, righteous being.
The page clearly stands out amongst the rest, as if the entire purpose of this journal was to fool an unsuspecting crusader. Since Dathrohan was revealed to be a Dreadlord in disguise, it would appear the cultist was tricked into using fel magic.>
We're then requested to return into the Scarlet Monastery and defeat the Headless Horseman in
