Gara is the newest Spirit Beast in Warlord's of Draenor. Without spoiling the story, I'd like to give an outline of what is needed to tame her:

Step 1: Your first encounter with her will be at the Burial fields in Shadowmoon Valley. At the southern end of the field is a grave site with a spirit wolf named Gara. If you are in beast mastery spec you'll get a dialogue option to scratch her behind the ears. This triggers the next step.

Step 2: On the other end of the field, north of Gara, is a rare called Mother Om'ra. Upon killing her you will receive some Shadowberry(s). Make your way back to Gara with the berries and speak to her again.

Step 3: Now you'll need to put together a Spirit Effigy and place it near Gara at a disturbed grave (which will not appear until after you've created the effigy).

Each item needed for the effigy drops from a different mob, and this entails traveling across all of Draenor.

Crude Effigy - Drywind Bonepicker in Gorgrond
Torn Cloth - Necrophyte in Frostfire Ridge.
Ancient Bone - Thunderlord Giantslayer - Specifically those at Grom'gar in FFR.
Small Fruit - Warsong Marauder in Nagrand.
Elder Incense - Sethekk Prophet in Spires of Arak.
Wooden Bowl - Gorebound Legionnaire in Talador.

Step 4: Once the effigy has been created & placed, you'll need to find a Void Lantern. These drop off of Shadowmoon Voidtwisters at the Pillars of Fate in SMV. They will ONLY drop after you have completed the previous steps. Upon use you will get a 60m buff called Void Lantern that will "partially phase you" into the void realm.

Step 5: Once you get the lantern, head over to Great Tree Valuundira in SMV (where the vignette Anchorite Vaanala is located) while the lantern's buff is active. Look around the trunk of the tree for a hole; inside will be a shadowmoon voidblade. Click on it and you will be fully phased into the Void Realm.

Step 6: Luckily, this step is pretty quick and easy. You must kill the Elder Voidcallers and/or Elder Void Lords while in the void realm until Xan appears. Kill him, tame Gara and you're done! You now have a gorgeous new spirit beast with a very interesting story behind her. :)

I really enjoyed solving Gara's mystery, even if at times it proved fairly tedious. So many people worked together to figure out each step, and it all took some serious hunting. I'm very glad I had the privilege to be a part of it, and congrats to the other hunters who got in on the world first (beta) kill of Xan with me!

It's been so long since we've had a Spirit Beast who's similar to Loque or Skoll, in the sense that they're not a complete spirit.

Actually, Lupen202, there is an error in your description. The first item, the crude effigy, does not drop from the Grom'kar Grunts, but from the Drywind Bonepickers in the same area (Thanks for changing that :)).

btw it seems that in the Beta each item drops from the first guy you kill.

OK, I want to add something else. There are two types of voidwalkers in the void realm: Elder Voidlords and Elder Voidcallers. The callers are a lot (!) easier to kill than the lords. You can get by by just killing the callers. I killed about eight, which was doable for me at 95, and then Xan spawns, who is doable. Not easy, but doable.

So I got Gara. Love her already :)

Just did it again on another toon. Quest still works, but using your Shadowmoon Valley garrison ability in Akeeta's Hovel (Pillars of Fate) does not work anymore, since it's now part of Spires of Arrak.

Killing the Voidtwister is doable by using crowd control and looking out for the totem the guy casts.

When in the void, killing only voidcallers will work, I needed five, they are a LOT easier than the Void Lords. Running to far will unphase you, you need to stay fairly close to the tree.

Killing Xan is quite alright with the garrison ability, and should go smoothly.

Items still drop 100%.

One thing I found at at the end of beta event, if once tamed you use the emote to dance with her she WILL dance with you. If someone can confirm this please let me know but that is what it looked like

Got my wolf about two hours ago, at level 94. Took a few hours to do the entire tour, but well worth it.

Final fights against Voidcallers and Xan were very easy.

Just got mine as well, and let me tell you at level 91, it is hard as heck. took me about 7 hours. The horde make this very hard. But it was worth it.

First thing I went off to do was this questline. Tamed her at 90, was not easy.

Surviving running through the areas is what was hardest,
the voids and the final battle is not difficult,
just take care when traveling or you'll get rekt by 98's + like I did ;_;

Managed to tame at lvl 97, hardest part was bringing down the Void lords (time consuming) . Other than that it's a sweet quest line for a awsome pet.

Tamed her at level 91 as well, but that is the ultimate fun of a new expansion for me <3

Running around a new (kinda), uncharted continent, dodging baddies, seeing new, exotic (also kinda) beasties that I'll want to tame later when I'm high enough level to do so, stopping to look at different areas, stopping and having an "OMG THE MUSIC" moment at some of the spots, not to mention a lore-nerd moment or two at Auchindoun being fully intact, as well as a few other places >v>;

Not having to worry about doing quests yet, and just having a mob or two to go after per zone, and figuring out off-the-beaten-path ways of getting to them made the journey fun, hectic, and encompassed everything I love about this game when you threw in the awesome people I met along the way >v<

As has been stated, only difficulties I found were running (gleefully) from the slavering jaws of high-level mobs, and taking down the Void mobs at the end (Though I found the Void Callers had less health than the Void Lords and thus were easier to take down (Naw, really...? >.>;)).

Enjoy the journey, enjoy the tear-jerking moments in the quest, and most of all, enjoy this beautiful, one-of-a-kind pet <3 I know I will!

So how do you tame her on the horde side?
Currently lvl 97 and wanted to tame this beauty, but I am having trouble figuring out what to do if I am on the opposite faction. If anyone could explain how to do so it would be greatly appreciated

Couple of things i came across... While killing the Elder voids of either type, if you're struggling with killing them (and Xan too) you can use the call to arms from your garrison to help with the dps :)
Also i found that she died a couple of minutes after coming out of the void area, don't panic, just rez pet and she'll come straight back up :)

Anyone after the void lamp,you might wanna make sure you get rid of the void shield totem, cause he'll shield and then he'll kill you, just letting people know cause i didn't see it, until i died lol.

Did this at 98, as I just wanted to get the pieces as I leveled through each zone. Most of it is covered, the only thing I wanted to mention was to be sure to get the berries and talk to Gara BEFORE you go collecting the other items, as they will not drop otherwise.

With that, everything is quite doable and fun. This is by far my favorite pet to date, and think it's going to be pretty hard to top .

Also not sure it was mentioned anywhere, but multiple hunters can be in the Void Realm together; each gets their own Gara to tame.

Managed to tame this as an Alliance at level 96. The pet was my main priority as soon as I read about it on Eyesofthebeast.com - Gara Spirit Beast Epic Taming Quest.

I was actually trying to get to 100 before attempting to tame due to:
1) Level 100 mobs in the guide
2) Traveling all over Draenor

What I overlooked:
1) There's no flying till 6.1
2) The level 100 mobs are solo-able at 96

Some tips I think would be helpful..

So following the above guide, the most tricky part for me was getting through Frostfire Ridge. When you follow the path north upon entering from Gorgrond, you'll hit Iron Siege Works. Follow the path left and you'll see a tunneler and what seems like a sealed off mountain. I looked around it for a long time before I realised there was a slight opening to the left of the rocks. It's not easily noticeable but trust me it's there. That would bring you through. After that it's all about avoiding higher level mobs and navigating through the cliffs and mountains.

When you're doing step 4, make sure you enter Shadowmoon Valley from the Spires of Arak - The Howling Crag. Don't use the void lantern till you're at the tree in step 5.

On step 5, took me a while to find the dagger - perhaps I'm blind. Where the NPC is standing next to the tree, go to the opposite side of her and look upwards, there should be a hole in the tree and the dagger is stuck inside it. You'll see it after you used the Void lantern you've acquired in step 4. Click it..

Step 6, I've actually only had to kill one Elder Voidcaller, waited for about a minute and saw Xan standing in the middle. You don't have to kill anything else or pull anything else. I engaged Xan right away as soon as I saw him.

For the question on what I did with my own pet while I was doing this quest. I had it out the whole time. Right till after I killed Xan, dismissed my pet, waited for the speech etc, you'll cast deterrence automatically and right after that the NPC will appear and ask you to tame Gara and so I did.

Amazing quest, amazing pet.

While my Hunter was a chump gearwise and therefore just didn't have the damage to push down the Voidtwister alone , me and another got this just fine .

Loved the work Blizzard did here.
Loved the way the quest worked

...Gara dropping over dead right after the tame is random and somewhat sad , but easily fixed .

I waited until level 100 to attempt this,had a lot of fun doing it,have to say,the hardest part for me was the voidtwisters in pillar of fate,luckily I had the fp,so that part was easy.I like this much better than farming for one,I only had to kill 2 void lords to get xan to spawn,he's a beautiful pet,he's in the tops of my large group of rares,the whole journey only took me a couple of hours,good luck to all that go after him,he is well worth it.

I have been excitedly anticipating this quest/creature in WoW for a couple of months now. People said it was really difficult to do at level 90, but I was determined. So I loaded up on dailies from Pandaria, and the 20 minutes til 12 PST that WoD dropped, I went and turned them all in + went and did a quick run of all the pet battle dailies. This, plus the opening quests to get into Draenor got me about 20% into 91.

The Garrison was bugged for us on Horde side. So what did I do? (Even though I woulda done it anyway.) I went on my Gara mission! It was so exciting to explore the world of Draenor as a newbie there. This quest let me see parts of it that I'd have otherwise waited to see. It was beautiful!

I saw so many pretty beasts I wanted to tame. But I told myself "First tame of Draenor is going to be Gara!" During restart, I researched what my path/order would be to get the items needed. And then I was off! I agree that the voidtwister mob was insanely frustrating at 91. But I managed to find one that patrolled down a path on the side of the mountain, and could take the time to snipe him and his stupid void totem (that I had to make a macro to target).

I too, found that the voidcallers were MUCH easier to kill than the voidlords. (The callers are the ones with the lamps) And after three of those guys, Xan spawned and yelled at me. (Who was also rather easy to kill, respectively.)

And next thing I knew, I was ecstatically clapping like the derptard I was because I had what was probably the first Gara tame on my realm. It was 4 hours after WoD dropped that I got her.

Her name is now Sniffles because for one, she sniffs a lot. And for two, I can't help but admit there was some sniffles of joy going on behind this screen after she was tamed.

Congrats to everyone who has tamed her/going to tame her! As I was leveling(finally), I got quite a many whisper asking where I got her from. And thusfar I am the only one I've seen with her on my realm. (Doesn't mean there's not anymore.)

How to tame Gara the Spirit Beast
Must be Beast Mastery spec

Step 1
• Talk to Gara - Shadowmoon Valley - 45.1, 65.9
• Choose to "Scratch her behind her ears"

Step 2
• Kill "Mother Om'ra" - Shadowmoon Valley - 44.0, 57.4
• Loot Shadowberry - (You can do this before Step 1 and then do Step 1 and 2 back to back)
• Go to Gara - Shadowmoon Valley - 45.1, 65.9
• Talk to Gara and "Show Gara the Shadowberries"

Step 3
Collect the following 6 items from all across Draenor by killing and looting the following mobs:
• Crude Effigy from Drywind Bonepicker - Gorgrond - 45.2, 52.8
• Wooden Bowl from Gorebound Legionnaire - Talador - 35.2, 73.8
• Elder Incense from Sethekk Prophet - Spires of Arak - 69.0, 42.4
• Small Fruit from Warsong Marauder - Nagrand - 71.8, 34.4
• Torn Cloth from Necrophyte - Frostfire Ridge - 25.6, 10.8
• Ancient Bone from Thunderlord Giantslayer - Frostfire Ridge - 64.6, 65.6

Step 4
• Click the "Crude Effigy" in your bags to create "Spirit Effigy"

Step 5
• Go to Gara - Shadowmoon Valley - 45.1, 65.9
• Stand exactly on the Disturbed Grave in front of Gara and click the "Spirit Effigy" in your bags
• Watch dialogue

Step 6
• Kill and loot Shadowmoon Voidtwisters - Shadowmoon Valley – 29.8, 56.8
• Get Void Lantern - (This will not drop unless you have completed the previous steps)
Note: You must enter this area of Shadowmoon Valley from Spires of Arak 64.4, 21.8 and cross the bridge into Shadowmoon Valley unless you have the Akeeta's Hovel flight path.

Step 7
• Go to Shadowmoon Valley - 60.2, 38.7
• Use Void Lantern
• Click Dagger in the tree - You will be phased into the Void realm

Step 8
• Kill Elder Voidcallers and Elder Void Lords until Xan, Lord of Glass spawns

Step 9
• Kill Xan, Lord of Glass

Step 10
• Tame Gara

Note: Multiple hunters can do Steps 8-10 at the same time and each hunter will get their own Gara to tame in Step 10

I'm not sure if it's a bug, but my Gara died suddenly about a minute after taming her. Like the ghost cat in Darkshore! Just rez Gara and you two can run the fields of Draenor once more! :)

Got Gara last night at lvl 96 . Just want to add , kill the ELDER VOIDCALLERS , with the laps hanging on their shoulders . They are a lot faster and easier to kill if you not lvl 100. I killed 2 callers and 1 lord and then Xan showed up. HTH

Has anyone had any issues starting the second dialogue with Gara. I got tons of shadowberries and I'm in the BM spec but don't get the second dialogue option. I didn't see anyone else mention this and I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

I tamed this pet the over night on my level 92 Undead hunter was a bit hard but very enjoyable I got my mum to tag along just incase I needed a hand but it was a very good chain. now level 99 and he is my favourite at the moment. He is a very good pet to have. :) solo part at the end was a bit hard but not too hard if you know what your doing.

Hello! I just tamed this extremely gorgeous wolf just now on Moon Guard server, around 4:25am server time. It was me and one other hunter in the void-changed area (the last step where you are killing the void creatures.) We were both level 96-97 and of opposite factions, yet we worked together to get the high health mobs down. Even though each void creature was unable to be tagged by us both (meaning it was greyed out to whoever didn’t tag it), we helped eachother down them, and after about 25 kills of void lords and voidcallers, Xan spawned. Xan was able to be tagged by both of us or any other present though, so don’t be afraid to help eachother out if you see someone having trouble. Two Garas then spawned with two orcs and we both got our tames. :) Good luck out there!

I used this guide for the full quest/tame it was really helpful

I grabbed the components in different zones as i leveled then did the voidtwisters for the lantern at 97 (hardest part) only had to kill one void lord before xan spawned

VERY IMPORTANT! Guys one more thing noone sems to tell is that Xan will spawn somewhere in the middle of the field when u r killing those voids,as i didnt knew that ,i thought Xan will spawn after i kill a void in that void place so Xan was spawned god knows since when and i was killing more voids like a moron untill accidentally i looked over the field and there it was around middle :))) GL

Just wanted to say that I had an issue when fighting the voidwalkers in the void realm. I found if I strayed too far from the tree with the dagger I would shift out of the void. Stay close to the tree when fighting those voidwalkers, this ensures you stay in the void.

At 96 I was having trouble with the final void section before Xan, the level 100 elite void monsters where killing me, so I put my pet in tank mode and jsut kept spamming heals and revives. Kill 1 Lord, and 2 Callers and bam, Xan.

Just wanted to add that there might be a bug in this quest if you switch specs after you talk to Gara. I spoke to her as BM, started gathering the effigy items, then switched to MM for a BG queue.

I switched back to BM and gathered the remaining effigy items, then tried to progress in the quest. I don't see the grave or any other options to continue, so I logged a bug. I'll update this when I heard back.

Moral of the story so far: stay in BM!

So, I finished the questline, dismissed my pet and started taming Gara.
And Leorajh starts attacking her!
I never had to tell my bodyguard to stop attacking before, I panicked, didn't know what to do.
She had very low health, so he brought her to 1 health after two lightning bolts.
And there I was, staring at her in panic, heart stopped, cursing the damn saberon... until I realized she wouldn't die.
Damn you Leorajh!

I first tried at lvl 91 as u can get all the items with some hard work on those lvl 98 then 100 mobs,but as i went into the shadow realm it was hard killing the voids,they killed me,so i tried again at ll 95 and it was very easy,GL guys,cheers.

I did this at 91 as a challenge, and by -far- the hardest part was the Void Lantern, which drops off of the Voidtwisters.

The Voidtwisters come with pet Void Alpha or something wolf mobs. I hate them so very, very much--they hit like trucks, and at lower levels your pet just is not going to keep aggro.

I tried it with many, many methods, over about three full gear repair sets--tried tanking with turtle, tanking with spirit beast, bursting it down with Stampede, etc.

In the end what worked for me was using a spirit beast set to Ferocity, growl -off,- and bursting with Stampede, then kiting the mob up the river as best I could until he died. I had to get lucky with landing two traps on the wolf, since they miss so much at 91. And make sure you destroy his totems when he drops them--they reduce his damage taken.

Fly or make your way to the Arakkoa flight path on the shore--the hut, just north of the Pillars. Ride or swim downriver until you find a stone ramp going up; a single Voidtwister and his wolf path up and down that. That's the easiest one to go for as a lowbie.

In regards to the final mobs, well, I only had to kill one Voidcaller before Xan spawned in--he announces it with a shout. But a Ferocity-specced spirit beast was able to hold its own easily, even if the kill was time-consuming. You can hurry it along a bit by Deterrance-reflecting a couple of his spells if he targets you.

For Alliance wondering how to get through Thunder Pass into Grom'gar:

Fly to Iron Siegeworks, Frostfire Ridge. (For those without the flightpath, the route to Iron Siegeworks is below).
Run straight along the path in front of you (it goes roughly west).
At the very end there is an Iron Stonegrinder facing the rock wall with a big boulder in front of it. To the right of the boulder is a fire. To the left of the boulder is the entrance to a tunnel that will take you through the rocks.

Entrance to tunnel @ 79, 56 (Frostfire Ridge).

This is the way to Iron Siegeworks, Frostfire Ridge from Gorgrond (all coordinates are shown on a map if you click on the links - mouse over the dots on the map for the corresponding points):

The closest flightpath to the pass is Deeproot, Gorgrond @ 46.4, 76.6 (map 1). From there, take the path north to the point marked
44.6, 72.6 (map 1).
At the crossroads, turn left (west), and it will lead you to the entrance of Deadrgrin @ 41.5, 74.1 (map 1).
At this point you have 2 options:
Option 1:

Follow the main path through Deadgrin, and it will lead you to Gorgrond pass.
There is another way through to Gorgrond Pass slightly south of Deadwind that doesn't involve running through so many mobs. This is @ 41.3, 75.7 (map 2). Just make your way to the entrance of Deadwind and before going in, go south and cross a little pond.
Both routes lead to Gorgrond Pass @ 36.1, 78.3 (map 1). Take this through the mountains, and you will emerge in Frostfire Ridge, Bones of Agurak @ 87.6, 72.3 (map 3).
From Bones of Agurak, follow the path veering to the right (going north) that parallels the mountain ridge and you will get to the Iron Siegeworks flightpath @ 86.7, 62.1 (map 3).

I didn't see anyone else mention this. After you touch the dagger in the tree, you have to let Gara kill the voids. Xan will spawn after the first void kill if Gara is the one that gets the killing blow. All you need to do is dps the void until 2% then, passive your pet and stop attacking. Gara will kill it and Xan will spawn. There's no need to kill a dozen of them. Save yourself some time. :)

I went in to kill Xan but didn't know what to click as he died. Him and Mother disappeared but Gara stayed down so I tried to tame it. Tame was done and Mother said her last words but I didn't get Gara as pet. I purposedly died and exited void realm several times to come back into it without Gara as a guardian. I killed Xan without Gara and still nothing...any advice anyone. I am so close but woahhh! lol

After getting to the voidcaller part of taming Gara, I spent about 20-25 minutes killing them. I killed about the same number of Void Lords and Callers. Xan then appeared where the tree was afterwards.

Also: Careful not to go "out of bounds". That happened to me and I freaked out. If this happens to you though, just go back to the tree and re-click the hole. The Voidcallers will reset though and you'll have to restart.

Gara does not attack you when you tame her.

Went and did this and got to the part where I could tame her. Died just as the tame went off. Went back in and no Gara appears and isn't in my pets. What to do?

For any other hunters out there trying to complete the final step of this. I found that if you get the Elite Void mobs to ~10%, dismiss your tanking pet and let Gara make the killing blow (ie, you don't even hit the mob now), then Xan pretty much spawns immediately afterward.

Had heard a rumor a long time ago that you could dance with Gara and that she would dance with you. This wasn't true though. I went AFK tonight for about 10 minutes and when I came back, Gara was dancing beside me and I had no idea how. Found out that if you throw a Party Grenade at her she will dance. This will actually cause her to bug into dance mode and she will continue to do it even when following you. I had to log out in order to get her to stop dancing.

** I Want to Point Out what happened to me in the beggining of The Procedure~ When I went to Gara With the berries, I did not get the option for Him to take berries and go to next step, A Friend told me just go ahead and Make the Effigy and it will still work for ya, Which it did!
** The web site> http://eyesofthebeast.com is the place to check out for Very Informative Info ,everything you need to know about getting this Sexy Spirit Beast. It is a "MUST HAVE" pet for Us Hunters. When you are at the last part of Q line, you have to kill these Voids until npc ZAN will appear.The Void Callers kill easier than Void Lords. We had to kill a number of Voids, So just keep going killing ,ZAN does show up eventually ( we were having doubts,but he does come! )
Kill Him and GARA will be right there waiting for you TAME.

I did the entire quest chain on my BM Hunter. KIlled Xan and nothing happened.

Tried to get another Lantern, but evidently it only drops if you're on that bit of the quest.. unless I was really unlucky with drops.

Can anyone confirm that you CAN get another Lantern and go through the void realm again?

I opened a ticket but got the usual Game Masters cannot help with this response.

I thought this would be well beyond me at level 94, considering I'm a casual player with fair to midland gear at best, but thanks to the kindness of my fellow hunters, Gara now stands proud at my side!

Just tamed gara, no problems guides are very accurate. One issue. My Gara remains Stealthed. Even turning off spirit walk. Many of the screen shots Ive seen show her in full colour, not stealthed. Is this a bug?

Just followed Lupen202's guide, and was able to complete this at lvl 96. Two things though. When you get to the step where you are looking for the Lantern, finding the entrance is pretty annoying. I had to go to Spires of Ash and head to the top corner where the bonus quest is, and cross a small bridge across the river to Shadowmoon. Seriously, this was a very annoying thing to find since I had no flight paths at all.

Second, when you are on the last part trying to get Xen to spawn, ignore the Elder Lords, and just kill the Elder Voidwalker things. Only being lvl 96, it was rough killing the Lords. They have a whole lot more HP, and ended up having to rez my pet many times. Xen is easy to kill, and there's no need to worry about dismissing your pet until after he's dead. Once he dies, Gara's master comes out and asks you to tame her to save her life. Just dismiss your pet, and tame her. Be careful though, she's not aggressive, but you can attack her on accident.

Today at highmaul hc at kargath, we wiped, got inside Again, and gara randomly started to dance! She followed me when i moved, but when i stopped, she started Again! Anyone knows how i did that? Cause that was awesome!

Tamed her yesturday at level 96 BM spec. Used Chorthee's post (thank you) with coords and took me about 2 hours to complete this - get all items (lost a bit more time on travel since didnt have some flight paths discovered), all items for quest are 100% drop chance, at least it was to me. Xan, Lord of Glass spawned when I kill 1 Elder Voidcallers and 1 Elder Void Lords (have a lot of HP but not hard at all). Also make sure to be in melee range to make sure Gara also attack them. Very nice story and cute puppy! Happy hunting! :)

Important: while doing this chain, make sure you are in BM spec all the time - if you re-spec, you can lose all chain progress.

By the way if you get killed by void lords for one reason or another just go back to the tree and click on the dagger again - the scenario will start all over again for you. You DON'T have to go back and get another void lantern (one won't drop anyway).

Also, the only times you have to be in Beast Master spec are when you scratch Gara behind the ears at the first encounter and at the last encounter when you need to tame her.

I solo'd all of this at lvl 97. Very easy for the most part just kill the voidcallers because they have less health. Grats to all who tame this beauty. =)

If it has not been added already, Don't summon your Barov Lumberjacks. They will attack Gara when you try and tame. I got lucky and she lived (barely), not sure if it bugs the quest tho.

I don't know if it's just me but Gara doesn't make any noise. For example, she doesn't howl or sniff or make noises like other wolfs do. Is it a bug? Does anyone else experience that? I compared her with another draenor wolf and the draenor wolf makes noises. I'm sad

If you are having extremely poor luck during the final part like I was, where you have to kill the Elder Voidcallers/Void Lords, & it's taking 45 minutes or longer for Xan to finally spawn, I stumbled across an interesting tip someone suggested:

"(Note: I stayed in the Void Realm the full 60 minutes of the Void Realm buff, killing Voidcallers and Void Lords and Xan didn't spawn. I also had 2 partially started area quests overlapping the Void Realm, which may have been somehow interfering. I completed both area quests before re-entering the Void, and Xan spawned after about 10 minutes. It is unknown whether this was related, but worth noting if the fight goes on past 20 minutes or so)." - aph0tikzone

I spent 45 minutes killing Voidcallers, & I ended up getting a couple of Void Lords after running out of Callers a few times, & nothing. I saw this tip, & realized I had a Stables quest that did overlap in the area. So I abandoned the quest, zoned out of the Void Realm, then clicked the sword in the tree to zone back in. Two Voidcallers & I think a Void Lord later, boom, there was Xan near the tree. (Within about 10 minutes) Downed him, tamed Gara, & now I have my beautiful pet. :)

Not sure if it really is related or not, or if it was just a funny coincidence, but I also thought it was worth noting here, in case someone started to get a little irked like I did. xD

Completed all tonite, as lvl 100 took near 3 hours with all travel time etc...
4 additional comments:
1) flying to Akeeta's hovel is the best/easiest way to go, use camo as you get to the lvl 100 mobs to get to shadowmoon voidtwisters caution.. there is a rare that walks around the same area. If you can, while taking path thru the 100's keep to the right and head down ramp that others mention and get the guy there.
2) when you are on final part- the tree with the blade in it, if you do NOT have coords, is the big one that when you are NOT shifted has the friendly (ally) NPC's around.
3) When the Voids spawn, the callers are way easier than the lords, and yes call to arms works to help if you need to kill lords.
*** Important: I have not read it posted, but may have gotten lost in all comments- There is a range- even thou you can see the Void callers and lords for quite a way, you can not go that far! If you do you will have to reshift. I was lucky that I was able to go to tree and the blade was still visible(partial shift buff still active) I think I had this misfortune 5 times- no joke.
4) Xan is also by far way easier to take down than the lords were.

Thru all the cussing and growling, he is worth the tame :)

Underwent this quest for Gara on my Lvl.91 Horde Hunter!

Let me tell you, the most frustrating part of this entire questline is actually just getting from place to place. I'm not sure if it was the most effective way to go about gathering the required items, but I got from zone to zone via the Azure Water Strider mount. (If you don't have one yet, a Waterstrider pet ( for their ability Surface Trot ) or Anglers Fishing Raft work just as well. )

At the very least, this negated the hassle of trying to bypass many of the higher level mobs that I would have encountered if I tried to travel by land and the water around the entirety of Draenor is shallow enough that you don't suffer fatigue.

After speaking to Gara and having her sniff the Shadowberries, I ventured to the Spires of Arak first, than headed to Talador, Nagrand, hearthed back to my garrison in Frostfire Ridge, before finally gathering the last item in Gorgrond.

The hardest part for me was getting the lantern, though I only died once ( fell into the ravine and than some level 100 mobs aggro'd onto me.)

After entering the Shadow Realm, I saw a level.97 Human Hunter, and together we started killing VoidCallers & Void Lords. I steered clear of the Lords, but the VoidCallers weren't particularly tough and neither I nor my pet were in any danger of dying. (I did not bother with having Gara get the killing blow. )

After about 20-25 minutes, Xan spawned and we were able to down him fairly quickly! All in all I think she is defiantly worth it.

Just did this start to finish at Level 100 - Item Level 621. Took about 2 hours but I had lunch in there as well.

Some notes.
1. The dagger you need to click is easiest found by standing directly to the left (while looking at the tree) of the NPC that is sitting on the big flat rock.
2. I killed only Voidcallers and simply ran out of the "zone" if I ran out of them. Upon re-entering, all were spawned and I started killing Voidcallers again.
3. I dismissed my pet when Xan was at about 5-10% health and used my Garrison ability bringing forth a large wrecking crew to finish him off with ease.
4. I attempted to tame Gara when I still had my Garrison NPCs with me. They promptly attacked her and almost killed her while I was taming her. Not sure how that would have played out had they succeeded......

All in all, it was a fun quest. Many thanks to the hunters before me that figured it all out. Too bad I never play as a BM hunter though. She will sit in the stable with the other Spirit Beasts.

Not the skin I personally would like, but it's a spirit beast that you do not not need to compete with other hunters to obtain. I have been trying in vain to find the bear one, but this will be nice to have in the mean time. The method of obtaining isn't TOO difficult, and it's nice that they made spirit beasts obtainable for those who can't get lucky.

I thought I was having glitch issues with this, as my hunter encounters a ton of them.... however..... I let Gara get the killing blow on most of my kills. Spent the entire hour farming and with 30 seconds left on my first timer, Xan spawned. I panicked but even though it ran out right when he hit 1 health, I was still able to complete the tame.
I abandoned all my quests and even completed the bonus objective that wouldn't leave. None of this seemed to help. Just kept killing them until he finally spawned. Last one I killed was a Voidcaller so the lower health ones do fine.
Nothing really seems to affect his spawn rate. Just killing as many as possible.
Hope this helps people having trouble with it. Some of us just get unlucky. (Two of my hunters got the Direhorn tome 1st kill on IoG but my main one took hours of farming it).

I soloed it all as a 99 and It wasn't hard at all. just know your abilities, and trust your pet.

At the void realm phase, the Void lords took a lot of time to kill, but were easy. Every level 99 hunter can do this...

In my opinion, Gara was by far the most annoying spirit beast to tame; however, she is also the best because of all you had to do to get her.

Pay attention to your chat bar, as Xan, Lord of Glass yells, "You can never escape the void! Your souls will be devoured!"

I'm unsure if it was coincidence or not, but after killing a bunch of the Elder Voidcaller and Elder Void Lord, I put on Glyph of Play Dead, and used Feign Death at about 5-10% health left and let Gara finish off the Voidcaller. Xan spawned directly after, so it's safe to assume that Gara must be the one to get the killing blow.

I would recommend being at least level 95+, but that's just me.

Eyes of the Beast put out a nifty little guide to help you with this (or there's some really well done guides in the comments here).

I tamed Gara last night. It took me about 15 Void Kills to get the Xan to spawn (30 minutes or so). I noticed that there are two types of Elder Void Lords - one with 2 million hit points and one with 200k hit points. It went much faster killing the 200k guys. So look for them to speed up the process a little.

I went and did all parts to where you go into the void to kill level 100 elites at level 91 and died

It reset the quest line and removed the item that you use at the tree to go into the void to kill level 100 elites

It is wise to wait for level 100 to go into this void

You can not do this at 90 or 91 best at 100

Wanted to make this post after completing the quest-line and taming my own Gara :)

1. If you're having trouble killing the NPC's that drop the items needed to make the Spirit Effigy, because you're, let's say level 93 (like I was), don't hesitate to ask for help from a guildie or a friend. The items still drop and the said player doesn't have to be a hunter, either.

2. If your Void Lantern buff wears out while attempting to enter the deeper Void Realm due to having to go AFK etc do not worry. You DO NOT have to go back to get another lantern. The blade is still going to be there for you to use even if you didn't have the said buff on you.

3. While in the Void Realm, where you're going to make Xan spawn, kill Elder Voidcallers instead of Elder Void Lords, because the Voidcallers have less health and are easier to kill if you're lower than level 100.

4. Even if you die in the Void Realm it doesn't reset the count of kills on the mobs there. In other words, it doesn't make Xan spawn any slower if you die. I, myself, died several times with my bad gear (mostly greens and few blues), but do not give up. When I ressed and went back, Xan was there waiting for me :)

5. Killing Xan is very easy. Actually easier than killing the Elder Voidcallers. He does less damage, has an ability that pulls you to him along with that annoying ranged bolt that probably killed you while killing the Voidcallers... He also has his health pool somewhere around 600k and after seeing that I was actually feeling a lot better and eventually made it to the part where I got to tame Gara as my own.

6. You CAN and you SHOULD use a pet in the Void Realm. You have plenty of time to dismiss / abandon it after Gara becomes tamable since she won't attack you during the process.

7. I also found out there's a tamable alternative that looks exactly like Gara if you ever happen to abandon your first one (click). It only shows up to those that have completed all the steps required to tame their first Gara and it's located in the Hills of Valuun after entering the Void Realm again (65.1, 36.7)

Glyphs that I found useful during the Void Realm part:
> Glyph of Liberation (Used Disengage as frequently as possible to regain some health. Extra good with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimaera)
> Glyph of Deterrence (The Voidcallers use mainly their shadowy bolts to damage you so your Deterrence blocks them, but this was useful during the Xan fight)
> Glyph of Tame Beast (Well, who wouldn't want the best Spirit Beast in the game as fast as possible, hm? ^^)

Ensure you are Beast Mastery

Have a tanking pet with Growl turned on. You can have a pet with you the whole time until the moment you go to Tame Gara. Then of course you must dismiss your current pet.

Ensure you are only carrying no more than 4 pets. Meaning make sure you have space for another pet. Check before you start.

After getting the items above. Click on one to join them. Return to Gara and place the item at the Grave where Gara is located.

Then go to get a void lantern at Spires/Shadowmoon 72/31 it's at the meeting point of the two near the river. Should be Spires Coords.

Here check number of pets!
Then go to the tree in Shadowmoon @ 60:38 use the lantern and you'll see a Sword in the tree click on it. You'll then see large 100 Elite Void callers. Start killing them until the Xan appears the big guy that took Gara. Kill Xan and then Gara appears and is availabe to tame. Easy tame no Freezing trap or any crap required, she just loves you straight off. So Dismiss curent pet and tame Gara.

Your done!

I just tamed Gara on my 100 level Orc Hunter. Awesome pet! Even more awesome guides regarding how to tame her!

I have one comment about how Gara walks/runs: she looks like her legs are hobbled and not being lifted off the surface. This is true if my character is walking or riding. It actually looks silly at riding speed. She does not walk or run anything like "Mist Howler", the rare level 21 Mist Howler I tamed in Ashenvale. Mist Howler was the first pet I tamed, and I still have her.

1. Once you get the lantern and find the sword in the tree, even if you get kicked out of the Void Realm, you just have to go back to the tree and click on the sword again.
2. You CAN use your hunter pet to fight the voids, and you can even use your garrison bodyguard to help you.
3. Apparently, once you have killed the Voids and Xan, you don't have to do that part again, even if you get kicked out. When you reenter the Void Realm, Gara will be lying down on the ground somewhere near the tree.
4. If you use a garrison bodyguard, you MUST send him home before you start taming, otherwise he will start attacking Gara (like mine did).
5. I assume we need to dismiss our hunter pet before starting the tame.

One weird thing happened: after I tamed Gara, I started to hearth back to the garrison, and Gara suddenly whimpered and died. I have no idea why. I just used "Revive Pet" however, and she came back to life, right as rain. I again used my hearthstone, and had no further problem.

Someone wrote above that he was successful after ONLY killing the Voidcallers, since they have only 1/5 the health of the Void Lords. I wish I had known that before hand, because I sure would have done that too!

Just got her at lvl 93 solo. The hardest bits was the lvl100 Shadow Voidtwister and the lvl100 void elites at the end, but thanks to my lucky spirit bear.. it wasn't too bad.

I have managed to tame this beast as a level 93 dwarf hunter. Yes, it was difficult, but definitely possible! Thank God a level 100 blood elf paladin came by and killed a Shadowmoon Voidtwister I had tagged, so I could easily loot the Void Lantern. :)

(Actually I feigned death cause I was about to die and all those Voidtwisters I had aggro'ed went running towards the paladin, I lol'ed for a while and then /thanked him for "helping" me out. I'm pretty sure he didn't understand what was going on xD).

Once in the void realm, I spent 10 minutes to kill only one of those Elder Voidlords with 1 million hp (after dying two or three times)... Until I noticed there were other void mobs (called Elder Voidcallers) who only had 200k hp! I started killing those instead, and when I killed the third one, Xan spawned. Xan is actually easier than those Elder Voidlords, just make sure you keep healing your pet, use Disengage every time he grips you, and that's basically it...

Overall I've spent one hour and a half in doing the whole procedure. :D

I have tried everything I can think of to get a chance to scratch Gara's ears. I am a BM, have shut down my add ons, dismissed my pet, banked my fetish (created before even knew about this).
I only get the normal response of Gara just staring at the grave. I even tried to think of a way to scratch the ears with slash commands. Am I missing something? Is there a quest giver I need to see first to get a quest?
I really, really want this wolf.
I tried getting the berries to see if I could skip a step and that didn't work either. I deleted the berries to make sure that wasn't an issue. I have 2 pet slots open, also, no luck.

For all of you who can't scratch Gara's ears:
Get your Spirit effigy created and go back to Gara. I also had the berries but, I don't know if you need them.
There will be a mound of dirt in front of the big stone. That's the disturbed grave. Use your effigy and the quest will start from there. It took me about 25 minutes to complete and have my wolf.
This was after researching all day on every site available and not finding any help. I just tried it in frustration and it works.
Happy taming. Mend her and feed her immediately after taming. She may still die but just revive her, mend her and feed her again. She should be fine after that.

I was nervous this was going to glitch as there are a lot of complaints that it does. I just finished taming her, lvl 100 so killing the mobs in the quest line isn't an issue. However, after watching the guide posted here, there are a few things to add to it to help stop the panic as I had a momentary "glitch" moment.

You can collect the items for the effigy in any order once you have scratched Gara's ears, collected berries, and given them to her. Do it in that order as others have reported glitches when they don't interact with her first. Also been advised that if you don't have the berries in your bag, the drops aren't 100%. I had berries and found the items with first kill so this may be true. Didn't test this theory but don't delete berries if you run out of bag space. Items show up in bag unlike quest things so they take up space. Make sure you have some

You don't need two lanterns if you don't do the void phase in an hour. I know this because, my mini glitch, I kept getting thrown out of phasing, or voids would despawn. You can't go too far from the tree or you will get thrown out of phasing. Or the voidlords will despawn tho you are still phased. If you get thrown out of void world, the dagger in the tree stays so you can click on it again. If the voidies despawn, remove void buff and go again. It is a royal pain as a lot of the voidlords are out of range and going to them takes you out of range. The ones with the fancy headgear are much easier to kill. The other ones have a grab and stun. Be careful with the grab as it took me out of the zone a few times when he did it and I had to start over.

It's RNG and not sure if it reset each time I got thrown out but you may have to kill a LOT of the void things to get the boss to spawn. I was killing them for about 35 min. Make sure you look around as Xan shows up but doesn't shout the usual stuff about killing you etc. He didn't come after me until I attacked him.

As I had to kill a lot of the elites, I had my bodyguard with me to help the tedium. make sure you dismiss it if you brought one along as they will attack Gara when you try to tame her

You don't need to be level 100 to obtain Gara. Obviously the higher level you are the easier it is. I decided to give it a try on one of my alt hunters and managed to do it at lowly level of 93. Not specially geared or anything. Had full heirlooms and some crap green/blue gear only epics were some old gear from Dragon Soul and what not.

The only concern I had was to get the Void Lantern from lvl 100 mobs in Pillars of Fate and once entering the shadow realm you had to kill lvl 100 void creatures.
There were two kinds of them: ones with like 1.2mil hp and other ones that got only around 200k. I killed maybe 3 or 4 of the 200k hp ones until Xan appeared and he had around 600k hp. Took me a while to kill him.
I used core hound for hysteria and specced it for tenacity for extra survival. I used stampede and garrison ability and it went down slowly but fine. every time he pulled me in I used disengage in air to counter it. For my suprise he didn't do much damage at all. My pet barely dropped 80% health.

P.S. This also was my first time I ever attempted to tame Gara. The comments here helped me to figure it out. I would've been lost without it.
I got two other hunters which are lvl 100 already, but for some reason haven't bothered to tame Gara with those. Out of curiosity I decided to try it with my noobie hunter and worked out better than expected :) Good luck to all the other hunters out there. She is quite the beauty ^_^

Just got this little violet beauty, took about 45 mins at lvl 100 (with the video guide's help, thanks much). Very worth the time and effort for this gorgeous companion.

Bear in mind: you have to be Beast Mastery spec to tame and use Spirit Beasts, so don't bother going through this quest chain unless you plan on running BM at least some of the time.

I didn't bother bringing my Bodyguard (didn't need one), but if you do, make sure you dismiss him/her before attempting to tame Gara, or your Bodyguard might kill the poor beast. Had to kill about 12 of the big Void guys to make Xan spawn, but it's more tedious than difficult. Start taming Gara immediately when prompted, so she can find a nice new home with you (hopefully not locked up inside a box at your local Stable Master!).

Named her Sweezy, after my wife's nickname...lovely wolf named for a lovely lady, who also needed a little patience and love and whose companionship is also totally worth every bit of the effort <3

I have gotten to the step with the elder void and spawning of Xan. Firstly, I wanted to inform everyone attempting to do this quest after July 26th that there have been some changes to the health pools of the enemies. The 'easier' Voidcallers used to have 200k life but now have almost a million life. Xan has over 2 million health currently. The void lords and callers are so incredibly slow to kill now because their health pools have been buffed whilst your damage is still the same.

The boss would have been a decent challenge with his new health pool had he not despawned half way through the fight! This has happened twice to me already which is driving me crazy because it is already so much work getting him to spawn in the first place (over 100 kills of elite mobs with over 1 mill life a piece). Collecting the effigy parts took 10 minutes at the most, killing voidcallers in the hopes Xan would spawn and not bug out has taken over FOUR HOURS and I still do not have this lovely wolf.

If this was the intended game mechanics then I would begrudgingly continue to farm but Xan despawning is quite clearly a new bug. I reported it and that is about as much I can do in the meantime.

Not sure if this is new or old news but Gara was invisible to my 110 hunter who had never attempted to tame her before so I just grabbed the Void Latern, clicked the dagger, the voids appeared for me to kill, and poof Gara was there for me to tame....

Just spent an hour trying to complete this on my lvl 110 BM hunter. I got as far as Xan spawning, defeated him, and Gara laid down. Om'ra never spawned. After a minute or two, Gara reset and we tried it again. And again. And again. I tried switching to a very low-level bow, taking off all my armor, letting my pets and/or Gara do all the attacking, with no luck. It's the day after the BfA pre-patch launched - could it be bugged? In addition, when Xan is at 1%, he casts one of his spells (not sure which one - Consuming Void?) and my hunter 'instinctively' casts Deterrence and avoids the damage. Is this causing the whole thing to fail? Do I need to take damage from that last spell in order for Om'ra to spawn? And since when do we still have Deterrence? It can't be coming from any of my weapons or armor, because I was still 'casting' it automatically even with Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix and no armor or trinkets/rings/necklace equipped. Anyone have any ideas on this?

I tried following the guide, tried to interact with her at first - nothing - she continued staring at the grave, which gave me the hint to sort the Effigy out FIRST - of which I did, and put the Effigy on the disturbed grave (when you get back to her/him there's a new disturbance which you can right click and the effigy places itself there) then I went to get the void lantern, dropped from the first Voidtwister. (see below for effigy pieces)

The Lantern will NOT drop from the Shadowmoon Voidtwisters until you have placed the effigy. (I found this out the painful way after killing 5 voidtwisters and dying after most of them because of the tightly packed mobs and the fact that burst shot hits a lot of mobs that are quite far away if you're not careful) This is where people are going wrong. (in assuming they can just go get the lantern before sorting the effigy out)

Then I went to the tree and applied the void lantern (right click on it - in your bag) so I was in the void, then I ran around the tree until I got the interaction cog and I saw lots of different 110+ voidcallers, at first nothing happened, after I killed a voidcaller, so I dismissed my pet so that Gara alone was fighting with me, the first one I hit went down in seconds instead of about a minute with my own pets.

I then re-spawned my pet and noticed that Xan was in the middle, so I went to fight him with my two pets and Gara and we won, Mother Om'ra then came back with Gara and told me to tame her, what you must make sure is that you don't right click on her, because that will instruct your spawned pets to attack her IF you have assist instead of Defensive.

She was super easy to tame then, and all was done - I didn't actually use the shadowberry in my bag, and I didn't have to scratch her behind her ears, they've obviously changed it all and no-one has bothered to actually write up how they did it AFTER changes, until now.

So please upvote this post, if you get it done in this order, so that people get the right version of events.

Just did the "quest line" in BfA. All the items dropped off the first mob I killed. Xen was up in the Void without me having to kill anything. I doubt I'm that lucky so it looks like you don't have to spend hours doing this anymore.

So this is a first for me, but I followed the guides in detail and had no issues. Still, don't even have flying and everything dropped on the first mob, just remember not to skip any steps.

Just got this pretty woof again on another hunter. It's kind of funny that you 'instinctively' use an ability that hunters no longer have (Deterrence) to avoid his big attack. Gara inspires the best in a hunter.

Is it possible to get quest/do the questline and tame as lvl 65, now that things scale or do you need to be lvl 90? with group you could be summoned, and even have hunter friend do the killing if mobs dont scale to 65.

* Look slightly above your head in a hollowed section of the tree for the dagger and right click to enter the Void
* Gara will run to you and fight as a protector beside you; be sure to get close to each mob or Gara will stay by your side and not engage
* Kill, kill, kill until Xan appears! (Can be anywhere from 2-12 or so mobs; they will yank you in A LOT!) Xan will not be terribly far from the tree, and you may not even realize he spawns as there is no announcement and no aggro or theatrics. The mobs are BIG in size, hard to miss. He is large, similar in color.
* After you defeat Xan, remember to DISMISS YOUR PET IF USING ONE before the tame. :D Mother Om'ra will appear and tell you that Gara is being swallowed by the void and that you must help her by taming her. Gara will not fight you on this as other potential pets do, and the tame works more quickly than in open world
* Mother Om'ra will give a touching farewell to her beloved Gara as Gara joins your side (I'm a sentimental guy; I found it especially touching)

* I soloed this easily on a Lvl 103 BM Hunter wearing Heirloom Gear

* You may use may use your own pet for the fights as well for the extra damage as you'll be fighting Lvl 100 Elites. Just be suire to dismiss your current pet before you tame Gara of course :D
* If you die, the dagger will remain in the tree
* if you use "Animal Companion" and want two pets with this look or you've accidentally abandoned Gara and want her back, you can go back into the void realm and look for a Lost Netherwolf to tame. It is located far away from the dagger at /way 65 37

As of Nov 15, 2020, patch 9.0.1

So I've been trying to get Gara since level 21. It appears you can't interact with her until level 40ish. I say 40ish because I tried at 38, nothing, now at 42 I'm able to interact and got thru the motions to get the effigy. Also, I am currently level 42 and "time warped" via Chromie for the Draenor timeline...not sure if that matters or not. It would make sense that level 40 is when you can interact with Gara since you can't get your Garrison to Level 3 until level 40.

If you're looking for another "Gara" pet...

Lost Netherwolf.
It's in the Void Realm - which is accessible by clicking the sword in the dead tree at THIS location: 60.2, 38.5 It's a giant, dead tree that looks totally out of place for everything else. Inside there are several hollows and in one of them there is a clicky. Turn on your "Beast Tracking" but it will be near the walls at THIS location: 65.1, 36.7. (I believe there is only one of them?)

ALSO - I already have Gara, so for me the clicky was there and so was the Lost Netherwolf. I have read that if you don't have Gara, the clicky won't be there for you enter the Void Realm. I haven't confirmed this but if you can't see the clicky inside that tree - maybe that's why...?

I'm not sure why, but every time I strayed from the tree when I was killing the voidy guys I phased back in to the normal world and had to go back to the tree and click on the dagger again. I must have killed about 30 of the void guys before Xan spawned, but since I'm late to the party my hunter was one shotting stuff left and right. I would say, at current max level (60, shadowlands) it took me less than an hour from start to finish. Gara has joied Gumi (blue pandaland spirit porcupine) as my current team, but I did turn off the stealth, she looks much better without it.

Silly question, do you have to be a certain level to run this? I stopped by as a 32, in BM spec , and when I click her it just says:

98% refer current and future Hunters to the step-by-step guide posted below by Niecho (in 2020 even!). The only updates are:

FROSTFIRE RIDGE: Thunderlord Giantslayer is a single huge NPC patrolling in a gully just down the side of a small mountain. He patrols around into a cave where there is a fire (inside the skeleton's mouth).

"GO TO FLIGHT PATH @ AKEETA'S HOVEL IN SHADOWMOON VALLEY - HEAD NORTHEAST AND ENTER SHADOWMOON FROM HERE"
= should read as: "TAKE FLIGHT PATH TO AKEETA'S HOVEL IN SHADOWMOON VALLEY - HEAD SOUTHEAST AND ENTER SHADOWMOON VALLEY FROM HERE"
(if you follow the OP directions you might assume you enter the SM Burial Grounds dungeon, do NOT enter dungeon area at all)

The Void Lantern places a 1-hour void aura on you called Void Lantern similar to a shadow priest. You can loot only one (1), but once you use Shadowmoon Voidblade at the Great Tree Valuundira you can go back and kill another Shadowmoon Voidtwister to loot another Void Lantern (that you can take in dungeons/raids and look oh so snazzy!).

NOTE: You can only seem to tame one (1) Gara spirit beast, but you can tame unlimited Lost Netherwolfs IN THE SAME VOID INSTANCE. In other words, tame Gara, then ride/fly NORTH to /way 65 37 and you'll find a single Lost Netherwolf snoozing under a small tree.

Tame Lost Netherwolf, wait a minute or so and another Lost Netherwolf will respawn. Tame all you like, or just stick with the two already tamed.

Fun fact: A tamed Lost Netherwolf does NOT keep its name, BUT its name changes to a kewl "Spirit Beast" instead. A spirit beast named Spirit Beast. Enjoy!

NOTE 2: In Dragonflight era, most mid+ level Hunters can 1-shot Xan w/o needing pets up. Take your 1-2 and then have slots to tame 2-4 more spirit beasts if you like. Xan spawned maybe 30 yards north of the void dagger tree you start at. So once you kill Xan, tame Gara, then go straight north to tame Lost Netherwolf.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch, but I thought Gara phased out so I went back to click the sword in the tree again before I tamed her, and a second one appeared. I was able to tame the first one, dismiss pet, and then proceed to tame the second one. YMMV; if you are looking for two this might be the way to go instead of the steps of going back into the void realm and taming a Lost Netherwolf.

As of DragonFlight (10.2) This requires a minimum level of 26 even with timewalking as scaling for some zones doesn't scale all the way down and has a minimum level (Nagrand and Spires in particular at 35 and 30 respectively) and skull / "?" level mobs (those 10 levels greater than yours) don't give loot.

You can start the process, get the berries, talk to gara even at level 14 (tested), but you cannot get all the items needed for the spirit effigy due to mob levels until 26.

Among other things this means trial/veteran account characters who cannot reach higher than level 20 are unable to get this pet model (the alternative blue model Son of Xolotal without effects from BFA is obtainable by Horde and maybe Alliance if they go to the echo islands in Durotar and take the Horde boat to Zuldazar (coords 72 78, pier off the eastern end of echo islands)).

I was able to follow the secret quest line below just fine in The War Within.

Note: The disturbed mound of dirt isn't in Frostfire Ridge, it is back at Gara just in front of the stone pillar and won't show up until you create the efigy.
