Located in the Silent Sanctuary, this grey stone quilen is one of the many, random rares that spawn in the Vale. He was originally a random daily quest objective and made his home in Guo-Lai Halls, but that all changed with 5.4.

He appears to be a statue, but will activate when you approach. He's also tameable by BM hunters.

Twice during the fight he will gain one of the following buffs, which make him change colour and grant him an extra ability: Blue Granite, Green Granite and Red Granite. (If a hunter tames him during these phases, he always reverts to his grey colour).

The Green Granite buff summons adds, Granite Fragment, which are green stone quiilen. They can be killed fairly quickly. They're also sadly not tameable by hunters (flagged but give an "already controlled" message), in case anyone is wondering.

Started the dailies one day as honored, as I got to this part of the quest I had hit revered, and he did not appear for me. Could be a phase bug.

The quest Battle Helm of the Thunder King that you receive at Revered causes the entire Guo-Lai Halls to be phased with no mobs. Unfortunately this quest is non-completable because of a known issue.

Either you need to drop Battle Helm of the Thunder King or just don't complete this daily. (I'd go with the latter anyway because the phasing of this area of this quest allows you access to several Ancient Guo-Lai Cache that you otherwise would not have access to.)

Anyone know if you can tame him during a colour buff and still have him keep that colour? I'd love to have the green version and was just wondering if he kept that colour when tamed.

A little information about WHERE inside he spawns and WHAT quest causes him to be there would be most helpful. I'm revered with Golden Lotus so every potential quest they give SHOULD cycle through for me at some point and I have yet to find this guy.

Found Wulon inside the The Silent Sanctuary, might be his new home in 5.4

As of 5.4:

He is now at 45, 76 in the little sanctuary near Mistfall Village. Same place that the relics of the thunder king were kept during the golden lotus story line.

I'm quite sure that the vast majority of the data on his drops, as well as the drops for the other new rares in the Vale as of 5.4, were gathered on the PTR before the patch went live. I believe this because the drop rate for Treasures of the Vale is listed at an abysmal 1.5%, something like 250 times out of nearly 16000 kills, and this has not been my experience at all. And I'm not just getting super lucky.

I'd say that conservatively, Wulon (and the rest of the new 5.4 rares in the Vale) has something more like a 50% chance to drop a Treasures of the Vale and damn near 100% chance to drop a few of one of the new cooking ingredients. I've killed him and all the others at least a dozen times a piece, and so far they drop cooking ingredients every time and a Treasure box most of the time, but not quite every time. It's going to take a while for the significant change in drop rate to be reflected here on WoWhead as the low rate on the other 16,000 kills has to be washed out. So in the mean time, I'm writing this just to make note of the fact that the drop rates have obviously changed significantly since 5.4 went live.

He doesn't set off my rarefinder until I initiate the fight with him, but the new "rare skull" on the minimap let me know he was there.

Mining Ghost Iron ore when I saw him pop up on the mini-map. Decided to go down and kill him but when he started changing colors I decided against it and tamed him instead.

I guess the question is - does he change colors when he fights or does he lose that when tamed?
Guess I'll find out - gonna go rip some heads off and test the theory...

EDIT: ...aaaaand the answer is NO - he doesn't. Stays the same boring old stone color that he gets tamed at. Why would Blizzard make a pet do awesome ^&*! ...duh - they wouldn't! Tame it - lose it.

I promptly abandoned his loser ass.
...sigh.

I only gain 220 rep(20 from guild perk) with both golden lotus and the black prince. Not 400 rep with golden lotus as listed.

Sooo, I can't find this for Wulon on this site so thought I'd throw it up here...Wulon has an Exotic Ability called Eternal Guardian. "20 yard range, 10 minute cool down, Returns the spirit to the body, restoring a dead target to life with 60% health and 20% mana." Quite handy in raids

For those that are new to hunters, there is a hunter-only pet that pats around Vale of Eternal Blossoms. After seeing a couple questions regarding the colors of Wulon, if you search for the NPC Portent, he can be tamed in various colors: red, blue, purple, and green. Let me recommend that once you pop a flare and see him, IMMEDIATELY toss a Hunter's Mark on him to prevent him from disappearing again (same technique with every other hunter-only pet that you have to track). Bona fortuna!

How can I tame this guy? Everytime I get to the end of the tame he does a knockback and it interrupts the tame. EVERY TIME. Standing with my back to a wall or corner doesn't help and he's immune to traps. Any advice?

Came here just now, trying to figure out why I couldn't find him. The co-ords entrance at 40, 77 in the Mistfall village were VERY useful.

When I walked past the mobs, and tried to attack him, nothing happened. I thought maybe I did something wrong, and walked directly into him. He came to life, and scared the CRAP out of me.

But, when he dropped, I got 220 rep with the Black Prince and 440 rep with the Golden Lotus (double rep, plus human bonus) so I forgive him.

I even got to mine his corpse :)

OK, I put a lot of effort into this, and figured it out.

I was after this for a few days and thought it impossible, since Wulon and Ai-Ren both spawned but never Spirit. Since his cave had an 'event' going on I thought it was changed since 5.4 and we couldn't get him. Worse, if you fly to the border of Four Winds and Eternal Blossoms, you can actually see that he is spawned and alive, but in another Phase.

The phasing here is really annoying, however you'll notice that when you're in Four Winds and can see all three alive, but then fly back into Eternal Blossoms and see only, say, Wulon alive, that's because Wulon is alive in *both* phases separately.

Spirit, Ai-Ren and Wulon can all spawn in the phase you're in when you're there. Spirit seems to have the longest respawn but that's purely anecdotal on my part. So don't try to 'fly in from a different direction' to bypass the phasing, you'll go mad. Just come back another time and check again, eventually they'll all spawn.

Just tame one of the Reanimated Quilens and name it Wulon... bam, you have Wulon the rare stone Quilen. yw :)

This is much easier in 2020 than it sounds like it was in 2016....

The coordinates of the doorway into the shrine in Mistfall Village (40.27 77.17) were very useful. Once in, you're confronted with maybe a dozen Quilen sitting there staring at you. You need to get past them and go on to the big inanimate Quilen in the back of the room. That's Wulon. The hint of walking right into and through him was great -- that woke him up. After that, taming him was a simple matter.

I didn't experience three Quilen phasing and unphasing, I didn't need special gear to tame Wulon.

The secret of life is enjoying the passing of time.

If you're max level, walk all the way up to him and he'll wake up and attack.

If you need Wulon for the One Many Army achievement and you're in a later expansion, visit Zidormi at 80, 32 near the Mogu'shan Palace dungeon entrance in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, and change the zone to it's Pandaria Expansion version and you can find Wulon at 44, 76 in The Silent Sanctuary.
