These Druids of the Flame will shapeshift in Flame Cat Form a few seconds after aggroing them. They transform into their cat form only one time per battle and it lasts 20 seconds. While in their shapeshift form they will annoyingly jump around you.
They mostly attack with slow melee hits and fire spells after returning in their Night Elf form.

The shape-shifted form isn't a cat, it's a Flame Scorpion. ~~It may've been patched or might be different for me for some reason. They still use Claw, though, so it's probably just been patched.~~

edit - these are the cat-form druids of the flame; they appear around Malfurion's Breach, to the south. This comment applies to the ones that spawn northeast, around The Widow's Clutch.

After some research, here's what I've found out about the shape-shift. Why should you care? Because these bland mobs kill a lot of people.

- The shift isn't necessarily done upon entering combat, it's random. One definite time when it WILL occur is if you interrupt their casts before they've shifted: they'll shape-shift immediately. It seems to be priority-based: when they can't cast Scorch or Fireball they'll use shape-shift, if it's off its cooldown. Don't interrupt their casts.

- The shift lasts for 20 seconds and is on a 3-minute ICD. (Essentially, unless you're deliberately wasting time to gather data, they'll only shape-shift once during the fight.)

This is why you need to know about it:
- Once shifted and when in melee range, they'll drop a Fire Patch on your location: a small, inoccuous, dusty-looking AoE that is very easy to miss due to colouration. It hits every second for around 15 - 16k. Get out of it**.

They may recast it several times, so don't get too comfortable until they've shifted back again. If you're a ranged class, kite them; they will not use it unless you stand in melee range.

- They will also use Poison Spit, particularly when you're at range. It's not very powerful and is easily dispelled. Like the fire patch, this may be used multiple times until the shape-shift runs out.

** I cannot over-emphasize how surprisingly potent this AoE is. It's the banality of the mobs and the camouflaged colour of the AoE that seem to do it: it catches players off-guard. They're not in a raid; they're zoned out, watching T.V. with one eye and quest-grinding with the other. They're not looking out for it and they don't see it until it's eaten 80% of their health.

It killed two unwitting players nearby in the short time I was collecting data. (I felt nothing but sorrow for their misfortune, naturally, and stuck around to watch it happen several more times. For science.)

Something about the females death scream sends shivers down my spine, it's both horrifying and badass, am i the only one that likes to kill the female druids just to hear it?
