I found mine off the road north of Gelikyr Post at the entrance to the Tyrhold Reservoir /way #2025 50.70, 64.12

Once I captured my pet, the critter version of the pet respawned at its point. This might mean that the battle pet shares spawns with the critter versions, and killing the critters you find might have a chance to spawn the pet.

Azure span Stand at 60.66, 38.00 then click on the pet in the burrow. If this doesn't work bind a key to interact and move around and keep hitting that key until it triggers the pet battle.

Out of all the pets on the list, this one was the toughest to get for me. Anyways, managed to finally see it spawn at /way 60, 38 in the Azure Span in the hole under the tree log.

I made my mom both very happy and very annoyed when I found this guy for her under the tree in Azure Span. She had been farming him for a day and a half on her server.

i farmed the mobs for quite a while at the tyrhold reservoir and found that if you fly back and forth between both the tyrhold spawn points and the azure span spawn points and farm them both they force spawn a lil bit faster then just farming one spot OR the other

still farming ... :*(

Be careful killing the Snowy Crystalspines that spawn near the holes. Your AOE abilities will hit the critter/pet down there, instantly killing them.

Warlocks - Eye of Kilrogg will not fit in the hole. Eye of Kilrogg glyphed as inquisitor's Eye will not fit either.

Toy: Mayhem Mind Melder will not let your pet into the hole.

...I wanted to get into the hole...is that so bad?

That little holes under the tree at azura span will spawn critters as well I'm %99 sure you should kill critters to find pet version of this guy.

I found mine at the tunnel at /way 60 38

Beneath the fallen log is a gap large enough to stand under. You'll find two small burrows there, and both can spawn a Crimsonspine. When I found mine, one was a critter, and one was a battle-able pet, but the pet actually didn't show on the minimap. I had to land and look inside to see it.

Be careful, though -- there are hostile mobs that path under the log, right past the burrows, and you can accidentally kill the Crimsonspines with AOE attacks.

In the holes in The Azure Span, if you are getting the "Battle Pet Area Obstructed" message, just keep backing up away from the hole until you can start the battle normally.

To add a bit more detail, and a complete description of how to get this rare pet:

Crimsonspine are rare spawns, so plan accordingly. It will take time, unless you're lucky.

The pets spawn in two locations. They share spawn chances with normal critters, so you'll need to clear the normal ones to eventually get a capturable/battle version.

There are two locations:

Five critters spawn on the road north of Gelikyr Post at the entrance to the Tyrhold Reservoir /way #2025 50.70, 64.12.

Two critters spawn in small holes in The Azure Span /way #2024 60.54 38.09, under a fallen tree. The holes are tiny... you'll need to use AoE or other attacks to kill critters in the holes.

When a battle-able pet spawns in one of the holes, you may get a message that the battle area is obstructed. This is more about your position than that of the target pet: simply rotate your character to give them a bit of open space facing in front and you will be able to start the battle.

After a full day of camping, I finally got my Crimsonspine from one of the small holes. I have no idea if they spawn more frequently there or not, but I spent hours killing dozens of critters in Thaldraszus, and only a did a few trips to Azure Span. You can fly between the two locations in about the time it takes the critters to respawn after being killed, so if you really want to optimize your chances, you should fly from one spawn area to the other, and back again.

This took me around 8 hours of farming. I sat under the log in Azure Span and killed the crimsonspines in the holes and all around. I went to bed and checked in the morning and STILL no luck, so I killed what was there and went to relist my auctions. came back, and one was there. It did take some finagling to get the battle arena clear but it is possible. but be prepared for a good long wait! watched two feasts go by while camping.

51.22 65.14 in thaldraszus (by the flight point and winds of the isles for anyone who does not have any coordinates.

Unlike the ones in Azure Span this one was not obstructed so it made capturing that much easier

After nearly 15 hours of farming the 2 spawn points, I am convinced that this pet does not exist!

EDIT: another 7 hours farming today and still no sign of this battle pet

Update: After more than 24 hours of farming I finally caught this pet today at Gelikyr Post 51.22, 65.13

I've been farming this pet for the past 4 days around 6 hours each day and I'm still yet to find one. I've been camping the log in Azure Span and killing all the critters that spawn and nothing so far. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm a completionist and capturing this pet is tied to an achievement, I would have given up long ago. /sighs

I did the logs with the 2 holes on Sat 2/11/2023. Clearing all and just waiting. 17 hours' later and all gotten is a lot leather. So I went to Gelikyr Post the next day and kept killing it all even the foul and the bears and TINY moths... Almost 15 hours and I just got fluid and leather. Not sure I even want this pet now LoL.. It is definitely Elusive.

I managed to find one of these in Upper Frostlands in The Azure Span (53,27 54.16).
He was hidden in a little den, under a huge fallen tree. There was several hostile Snowy Crystalspine around I had to kill first (so be careful not to AOE the battle pet).
Remember to use your Terrible Turnip pet with Weakening Blow so you don't kill the Crimsonspine before you can cage it.

My experience with this..

Tried the two spots for 45 minutes or so each, clearing all critters, which I realize is very little time for this pet, but, no luck.

Then I tried in War Mode, as others noted. Bingo! Both locations had one. Both 'Poor' (I left the second and someone else came and got :) )

Then, War Mode OFF, I checked both locations after today's server reset hoping for a better quality specimen. Both locations had one up. BTW, this has been my experience over the years, post server reset is a good time to check for rares. Again, I posted the locations in general chat and two other folks took advantage :)

I spent 4 hours in azure span running between the 2 holes killing critters and not one battlepet spawned. Then I went mad and spent another 7 hours doing the same thing today still NO battlepet. I must be mad...

So probably the cheesiest way to get this pet is to go the aforementioned spawn point in Azure Spawn. It's under the log (/way #2024 60.54 38.09) for which I take zero credit. It's a really interesting spot given the very small burrows, and as a side note I love how the devs put something like this there. Anyhow, back to the topic at hand...just queue for the WQ "Cobalt Catastrophe" or similar (but this is the most obvious one) and shard hop until you find the correctly spawning battle pet. Didn't take me long at all.

At the two holes and looking at others comments on trying to fit in the hole, I was able to stand in the hole up to the top of my head using Manastorm's Duplicator. Almost can get in there...hehe

ok catching up on my pet collection. So found the crimsonspine in the hole at /way #2024 60.54 38.09. as a mage, i used spellsteal, then invis to remove combat and he popped out of the hole.

Visited both the Azure Span and Thaldraszus locations with War Mode on, but did not have the luck to see the battle pet. Went back to Valdrakken to switch WM off, because I'm not a PvP fan. Considering the Thaldraszus location has 5 spawn points (and you only have to kill one Skittish Herdmare, she becomes aggressive when you kill the critter close to her), I picked that location to force the battle pet to appear. Used the following macro to kill the critters.
/target Crimsonspine
/cleartarget
/stopmacro
/run SetRaidTarget("target", 3)
/cast Judgement
The number (3) behind SetRaidTarget sets the type of icon/color to diamond/magenta. (It seems to be numbered in reverse order of the Target Marker Icon list, it has the skull at the top, but the number for skull is 8.) Replace Judgment with your own instant cast spell, fly around hitting the keybind to that macro and then practice having patience... (For me it took two, maybe three hours, to get 3 of the Crimsonspines.)

For the users of the TomTom add-on, the 5 spots listed below mark the (approximate, they wander a little bit) locations where the Crimsonspine critter & battle pet spawns. You do not need to kill any other critters, and there are no other battle pets spawning in the area of those 5 spawn points or in between. The time between the critter kill and respawn at the same spot seem to be somewhat fixed (takes a few minutes). If you kill all of them one after the other in short order, the respawn seems to do the same. You can paste the whole list in one go, via the window which appears with the /ttpaste command.

What worked for me was going to the hole after clearing the crystal spines under the log getting as far in as I can standing and then sitting and clicking the pet battle icon pulled him out. Readjust to get it to not say pet battle area is obstructed. Wm was on for this.

Kind of messed up that Blizzard made an ultra rare pet like this a part of the Dragon Isles Safari achievement.

EDIT: The pet spawned like 5 minutes after I typed this comment. In one of the holes in Azure Span.

Every damn time you see posts like "I had war mode on/off" or "i think it has a higher chance to spawn in the X location" or "I was wearing my lucky undies!"

It has nothing to do with war mode being on, or off. No location has a higher chance to spawn this pet. Your lucky undies didn't do squat. It's all COINCIDENCE, because:

It's all RANDOM CHANCE. It has always been random chance, even from way back in the days when people thought you needed more DoTs on Onyxia so she didn't Deep Breathe. The misinformation gets really tiresaome.

got mine in Thaldraszus location . the trick is to kill the critters that are in the given location until a pet of crimsonspine spawns. happy hunting. just camp out the location and you should eventually get it. just takes time and some patients.
