Second boss encounter in Coilfang: Underbog. Simple tank/dps/heal fight - he will do an AoE volley nature spell as well as possible knockback.

The knockback seems to be from tailwhip. He also has a dot that is uncleansable that seems to be a frontal cone. The volley deals at least 2k nature damage. Nature pots and aspect of the wild will help.

There have also being able to kill the overseer, which may drop loot, before Ghaz'an eats him.

You want to treat him sort of like Onyxia. Dps needs to stay away from the tail and away from the front. His tail can knock you into the water below, and the front does the nature cone. You can backstab from the side, just like Onyxia.

Has a nature damage DoT which will stack on your main tank up to at least 10 times. By the time you have 9 or 10 stacked up it will be doing 1300-1500 dmg/tick (with no resistance).

I think this fight may actually be easier with a paladin main tank because we can bubble-taunt to clear the debuffs during the fight and not lose aggro. Just wait until your healers are no longer able to keep up with the DoT, then bubble, taunt Ghaz'an back onto you and dispel your bubble. DPS should then be able to finish him off before the DoT's get out of hand again. Worked really well for us.

The easiest way to kill Ghaz'an is to kite him. Since that in order to cast his breath, he stands still for 2 seconds. The best thing a group can do, is have a hunter or a warlock do it for them. Just stay back, don't do anything and simply watch the kiter get him down flawlessly.

P.S: I am a warlock and I did this, by just spamming dots and running. And no I am not affliction. It took some time, but it's a cake.

Have all the ranged DPS stand back 30yrds on the ramp and have the Tank turn him around and you shouldn't have to worry about the knockback or much damage at all. Ranged should just bandage when needed and it's cake.

Acid Spit – a wide cone attack from the front dealing 2000-2500 damage.

Enrage – Enrages at 20% health.

Tail Sweep - does a tail sweep similar to Onyxia with a small knock back effect and inflicting about 450-800 damage.

Acid Breath – 155 Nature damage inflicted every 3 seconds, can not be removed and stacks up to 4 times.

This is like a little Onyxia fight, your tank can tank him against the wall on the path that would lead to him.. So basically have everyone else get about half way to the boss standing on the bridge that would lead to the boss.. Have the tank run ahead and pull him back all the way to the wall from where the bridge starts a path to this boss.. Have the tank, "tank" him at this point and leave your ranged persons on the brdge where they started the fight.. This will keep the tank from avoiding his knockback as the tank will hit the wall, and your ranged DPS will be out of range from his tail sweep.

Tank needs to keep good established aggro, if he turns and acid breaths/acid spits on the group it could be bad times..

Second boss in Underbog: Easy fight if done correctly. Can get messy if you don't set up right.

1) Tail Whip - He does a knockback with his tail, which will knock you into the water below.

2) Acid Cone- Puts a poison DoT (cannot be cured) on people in front of his face (shoots in a cone)

~*~*KEY POSITIONING~*~*: In order to do this fight, have the MT tank him in the middle of the platform he's standing on, and have the ranged dps/healers stand on the bridge. The tank will turn him so that his side is facing the bridge, and have the melee attack his side. No one should be by the tail and only the tank should be at the head. This will make for a much easier and cleaner fight.

Acid volley - He'll periodically volley acid to random people, dealing a decent amount of damage. Have hunters turn on AoW or Shamans put down Nature resis totem.

Second Boss
Key Abilities:
1) Tail Whip: Much like Onyxia's tail whip ability. This can knock you off the platform and into some nasty fishies.
2) A stacking nature dot. Unless you have decent nature resist gear, just heal through it and burn him down fast.

Tactics:
Before the tank goes in, stack some hots on him and have everyone wait on the pipes until the MT has him positioned. This prevents tail whips before he is in position. If you treat the pipes as 6 o'clock, i find that running straight from the pipes, through the model and then turning him so he is facing 2 o'clock is best for keeping in range of healing and everyone out of tail whips and the AE.

Rather easy on heroic, healers just stay at max range and stay away from the tail, hunters NR aspect always helps.

Too add on jimbo's post. It is indeed possible to solo him, or do what we did.

Last nites Underbog run:

64 Enh. Shammy
63 Fire Mage
68 Fury Warrior
63 Prot. Warrior
65 Shadow Priest (me)

I healed all the way thru underbog to this boss with my somewhat decent healgear. Unfortunately the tank (63) didnt have a clue what he was doing and he got knocked, resulting in panic and everyone but me dying. Boss was on half health at that time so i just put another dot on him and jokingly on vent saying 'DW ill tank him!' .
Then i noticed how insanely slow this boss is. He does chase u ofc, but every now and then he does that spray, wich is really short range. When he chased i dotted SWP and VT. When he stopped i MB. Kited him all the way to the first boss area, nice n big , had him run in circles and the dots killed him in the end.

So throw away all the tactics and just kite :))

I wasnt rewarded, the poopy resiliance neck dropped :/

The boss isn't incredibly hard, it's mostly about positioning.

When I did it as a shadow priest (who was healing the group) all of us but me wiped when boss was at 10%.

I kited him to death with SW:P, wasn't very hard.

What we did was the following:
We made our tank (druid) taunt him and drag him to the wall on the bridge so the tank was with his back to the wall.
Meanwhile all others stand to his sides and just kick the shit out of this dude! =D
Just make sure your healer heals your tank enough and that the tank can hold aggro.

group:
- Me (lvl 70 Holy Paladin)
- Orville (lvl 70 Frostmage)
- Leinhart (lvl 65 Druid (unknown spec but he tanked))
- "Little Queen" (lvl 66 Affliction warlock)

All on Moonglade EU server.

I hadn't been to Underbog for many months until tonight. It would appear the Acid Spit has been altered somewhat. I do recall having turned him to the side in the past, with DPS/healers at his flank, a la Onyxia as others have recommended here in the comments.

That wasn't workin' tonight as I was running a 67 Priest through. In fact, upon closer inspection, it turns out that the Acid Spit is apparently a 360 AE now rather than a 180 cone. It's also hitting for closer to 2.2k or so, unmodified. We played around with the positioning quite a bit and the tail swipe seems to be working as normal; it's just the Acid Spit is no longer avoidable.

Agree with most of this. Better to have ranged DPS stand to the tank's left, on the walkway to the bridge, far enough away to avoid the tail swipe or poison.

I suggest melee DPS stand directly behind the boss (basically in his butt). Yes, the tail will hit them, but they'll be knocked back in a straight line from the boss so they can just run right back. This is better than the alternative of fighting from the front and being poisoned, as the healer will have a hard enough time healing the tank through the debuffs.

Acid Spit hits in all directions not only front, i've tested by standing at max range behind the boss and it was still hitting.

Easily soloed on heroic as feral druid. Saved barkskin and dodge trinkets until enrage at the end. The only damage I took was from the AOE poison which hit for ~2k. Used frenzy regen when my health hit 40%. Smooth sailing from there.

Not just like Ony, most dragons have the tail sweep, I think.
Really easy for us, probably would be easier if we didn't have a Death Knoob in the group. I'm a death knight, but at least I have a brain. One healer, one tank, and the blood fool tries to tank. Um, what?

I've been having fun soloing instances on my hunter alt. I was 66 at the time I reached Ghaz'an, and he was the first Outlands boss to give me problems. Took me several tries to figure out that the Acid Spit wasn't working as I expected.

In the end, I had to use Aspect of the Wild, well timed full bandage and a big health potion, and still I ended the fight with 1500 hp left and a dead pet. Key is to find the balance between fast nuking and surviving.

Patch 4.3, just did a farming run of Underbog, and Ghaz'an didn't spawn. At all. Has he been removed in the redesign?

...and there has been a redesign, not a big one, but questgivers are now inside the dungeon, and there's a shortcut back to the beginning. It's definitely been altered a bit, and I certainly couldn't find the big guy tonight.

Interesting that the hydra in Underbog, Outland has the same naming convention as 3 other hydra in Azeroth.

Gahz'rilla , Gahz'ranka and Gahz'rooki all share the same naming convention with Ghaz'an. The 'H' has a different placement, but they would still all sound very very similar.

Perhaps the connection between Outland and Azeroth via the Old Gods is indeed a viable theory. Or perhaps the Naga and Blood Elves brought it over with them?

Both theories are merely speculation at the moment. It is just food for thought for the lore-hounds.

As of patch 6.0.2, Hydra is a new family of tamed hunter pets. They give 141 mastery buff on level 90, up to 550 on level 100 with Keen Senses, giving alternative to cat/spirit beast.
Hydras are not exotic pets.

Have run this dungeon for this Boss about 40-50+ times in the past 2 days looking for Hatebringer or either belt .... in all those runs, this PITA has dropped nothing but Sanguine Hibiscus and gold.... not one single thing people would actually want lol

Is there any special thing I can do to get him to drop something useful ? rofl
