Burning Crusade was one of the expansions we learned how to fly, and now we are coming back to show them how we are flying now.
Neat. Be cool if we get dragon riding everywhere by the end of the xpax
I just hope every fly mount gets a type of dragonriding so we dont feel "forced" to use a certain one since they are more than twice as fast as static flying.
HD Netherdrake... peeeeeeez
In before they announce we can get each zone dragons skins as reward of dragon races for each ;)
Netherdrake racing nostalgia hit.
Time to show Captain Skyshatter the new tech
Screw dragonriding, gimme flying on the dragon isles...
Dragonriding HYPE! One of the best things introduced so far. Happy its getting into the old zones. Good that it will be getting into old zones for general use, since there are 2 abilities to switch between those 2 types of flying. Gonna enjoy flying around the old zones like this once they optimize the older and newer zones for it. Guess I can say bye bye to old flying then once its out.
This looks to me like they're rolling out a lore justification to do dragon riding everywhere. When we first got dragon riding, they basically taught racing. It was all about going through the rings from the start at the Ruby Life Pools flight demo. This also conveniently does test the tech in old zones, even if it's a closed circuit test.I'm sure the goal is to fully roll out the togglable dragon riding in the relatively near future. I'm hoping whatever mount they lend us for the races becomes a mount we earn when we've completed at least one version of each race in the zones. Ideally, each continent uses a mount relevant to the local lore. So a recolored/retextured Netherwing for Outland, hippogryph/wyvern for Kalimdor, gryphon/bat for Eastern Kingdoms. That's probably fairly ambitious to implement, so I won't be disappointed if it's no mount reward component. I see it going down like this: do the dragon riding races in old content zones with a loaner mount. At the end of completion of all races you are given the loaner to keep and the trainer you talk to says something like "you've proven that you're a capable dragon rider, <player>. Take this <mount> they've grown to like you in your racing together. Enjoy your ability to decide how you want to fly in <continent> from now on." Achievement toast "<Continent> Dragon Riding Unlocked" pops up. The toggle is the thing I haven't fleshed out implementation for yet. Maybe each continent has a few glyphs along the race tracks, but not exactly on it, so it's a slight risk to try to grab them on the race to unlock toggle? Static is default, then you mount on a dragon riding mount to toggle to dynamic? Maybe you go talk to one of the dragon race "officials" nearby to toggle? Maybe put the toggle right in the mount pane not linked to glyphs at all, just to unlocked riding for the zone? If you've got it toggled on but didn't unlock for zone, it defaults to BC style flight outside the Dragon Isles? The only thing I think really threatens to make old content zone dragon riding less enjoyable is if they don't raise all of the zones' sky boxes to the same height. Running into the invisible wall below Hyjal would be a less than pleasant dragon riding experience. All of the skyboxes have to be uniform height because the older height limits' interaction between zones is what I think will cause server disconnects and other frustration. The player character will show up x, y, z coordinates bouncing high speed against invisible walls and the server doesn't know what to do with that. I had that happen trying to use Dracthyr Soar between Silithus and Feralas. I guess we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it goes well!
Outland races... I see... $%^&... so I guess we get Northrend, Pandaria and other areas as well? That's gonna be some LONG hours when that patch hits live.Something that also just came to mind: Some of these zones will feel incredibly tiny, considering that they were designed with 150/280% speed in mind, not 900%+
