I do like what I've seen of DF so far, because it does seem like it's a step in a direction I personally like, that being one moving away from stuff that gets left behind in the expansion it was introduced. IMO, BfA was Legion 2.0 and SL was Legion 3.0; DF doesn't look like Legion 4.0 to me, and if they keep going down this path it'll probably get me buying expansions again. Can't really know for sure at this point though...
Good interview
I'm feeling optimistic about the future of the game since tinkering with the talent trees. Not only will the lack of borrowed power systems free up dev time to do other things, the new trees give players a lot of neat choices that I wouldn't have expected. I also hope they keep their promise to have most things account wide. It would be nice to be able to just worry about lvling and gear for alts and not grinding something tedious again for reasons.
I was hoping he was taking more of a 'back seat' role at this point.
I feel like everyone should be required to read that last paragraph before making any post on the forums/Reddit/Wowhead/etc. At the end of the day, the developers ARE people and, when you resort to hateful and personal vitriol because you don’t like X, you are doing real emotional damage to real people.Be passionate and vocal about your distaste but there’s zero need to treat the AVERAGE people behind the game as idiots. ActiBlizzard management on the other hand? By all means, drag em’. (Only somewhat joking…)
This is all coming from the guy who tried to tell the entire playerbase they have skill issues. I just can't take him serious after that. I would love to be proven wrong in the long-term since I love playing when the game has content, but this feels too little too late in a lot of ways. It shouldn't take a company-wide scandal to get the ship moving from being dead in the water. They have been unwilling to take player feedback seriously so long. The recent community responses have been a nice step forward, but the bad taste is still there for me in some places. Hopefully it goes away and never comes back if they really do care about the game and the players.
While optimistic, I don't think New Blizzard is that much different or better than Old Blizzard. I mean, they went an entire interview and dodged hard questions, and didn't address the fact they're shipping a new class that's dead on arrival and how specs don't have a truly unifying design strategy.
"The most inaccurate thing said at times, and the most hurtful, is that the developers don’t care. The entire team cares passionately and are deeply rewarded by the joy of their players, and want to make everyone happy. If they're unable to act on feedback, it’s often because they're balancing the concerns and requests of a very diverse player base that has different goals, different motivations, and often directly conflicting desires. Doing the thing that person A requests could make the game worse for person B and vice versa because they play the game in different ways and want to experience the game in different ways. Mistakes happen, but they come from a place of positive and earnest good intent."I love the way he said that. Most comments criticizing the game and suggested changes, especially coming from wowhead comments and the official forums completely fail to see the bigger picture and the consequences that would come with those desired changes, barely ever taking into account the effect it has on different playerbases and different areas of the game. Sure, you cant make it right for everyone all the time and blizzard has been making bad decisions left and right but the things that most commenters suggest are incredibly poorly though out. The playerbase is so extremely diverse in their way of playing and what they do ingame, that one could say that different wow players are playing completely different "games". Its seemingly an impossible goal for blizzard to do the right thing, but they should try their best and i hope they do.
This may be true and I genuinely believe that they’re not actively setting out to antagonize players:
I like Ion and his interviews. I might not always agree with everything that's going on in the game (even with some of the things in DF) but I can always hear him and understand where is he coming from.
I really enjoy the fated raids I hope they continue that.. since I dont participate in mythic plus its the perfect alternative.please please please keep fated raids in the game ..
