WowUp
The Next ThingI know that it has been quiet here for a while, however today we have a decent sized Friday announcement.
We are happy to announce that today we are launching the beta of a new WowUp app that supports CurseForge addons. Some of you may remember when we used to support CurseForge addons in the past and tried to move to a model with you having to manually input an API key due to technical limitations. Luckily this is no longer the case. The tradeoff is that now in order to use the CurseForge addon provider you will need to view an ad like our Wago implementation. As always you can turn off this provider if you choose (however, you will then lose the Curseforge functionality).
This new client is officially sanctioned by Overwolf for use with CurseForge so hopefully we don’t have to shut it down last minute this time.
Some of you are probably asking, why is it a separate app? The answer is technical, but the short version is that they require a custom version of Electron, which is what WowUp is built on, to manage secure communications with their ad providers. This is like how their standalone CurseForge updater works. So, the decision was made on our end to create a new app that meets their requirements so that you can use if you so choose. The main WowUp app is not going anywhere.
We will be working towards streamlining how these two apps are managed and how they might interact with each other in the future so stay tuned.
