I really like the writing style of this guide writer. I feel optimism and excitement in his/her work.I don't have much experience playing survival but it sure looks like a good option to step into the dragon isles as.
Nothing but respect for Thyminde. The write-up is spot on. I think you do mention all of these, but I'm gonna share my biggest problems when trying to make a build anyway.Firstly, too much bloat and useless mandatory points in the 8-20 range. I can't believe Sharp Edges has survived more than one Alpha build. No one has absolute garbage like that in their tree blocking the good talents like we're paying a tax for something. Viper's Venom is also of very dubious usefulness, but not only are we forced to take it as it's the only connection to the ever mandatory Wildfire Infusion, but we have to dump two points into it. This leaves us with absolutely no flexibility. Then Spear Focus is literally just a worse Sweeping Spear. It's the kind of talent designed by someone with zero insight into the spec, just picking a main ability and slapping a % increase onto it like we're in Classic. Then in the 20+ range, my main issue is that Spearhead is made hard to access because of Killer Companion. It's just a 10% increase to KC. It's boring, it's probably not a huge increase, and it costs 2 points. It essentially makes Spearhead feel like a 3-point talent, because I'm only spending points on this crap just to get to Spearhead. Yeah, this system is meant to be about meaningful choices, but the choice should be "do I pick this awesome thing or the other awesome thing?", not "do I pick these two awesome things or that one other awesome thing that also needs me to drop two points down the drain?". So my attempts to make a single-target build with Spearhead always find me hitting a wall because I'm immediately 2 points down with nothing to show for it. In a more abstract way, I can't quite figure out what the intended behavior is meant to be for the spec. Are we going to be spamming KC now that everything seems to focus around resetting it? Why so much focus on resetting it when all that you get from it is another KC and possibly a free Arcane Shot that you don't even have to press? Why so many reset-boosting talents when Pheromone is literally 100% chance? Is KC going to be our heavy hitter now with all the stuff boosting it? And if Mongoose is still meant to be our main hitter, why are there no more meaningful interactions with that other than yet another KC reset talent?Birds of Prey increases the duration of Coordinated Assault, but CA doesn't help spam Mongoose at all or empower it in any way, if anything it adds more stuff in the way. And KC extends Spearhead, but Spearhead is the cooldown that promotes spamming Mongoose and doesn't add anything to KC other than the reset chance. So if I'm taking advantage of those extensions, then I'm not taking advantage of the cooldown itself. What am I meant to be doing? I don't think the Survival guy at Blizzard has any idea. Not to mention they took Serpent Sting, an integral part to this and only this spec for ages, and they put it in the class tree, along with our talent and our azerite power for it, when they could have used it to fill the spec tree with more interesting talents that don't make me feel like I'm wasting my points. Oh and they outright stated they are not fixing our obviously problematic Mastery in any way, so not to be a downer, but I don't have much faith in whomever is in charge of the spec.
Well written first impression of the new Hunter Talent trees in Dragonflight! Would love to see a an option to Guerilla Tactics, buffing butchery/carve somehow. Having a meele aoe instead of beeing forced to throw bombs could've been fun.
Bloody Claws might be cooler if you got the buff after Monngoose Bite fades:"When Mongoose Bite fades, Kill Command gains increased reset chance for each stack of Mongoose Bite for "... or something like that. I feel that would fit better into a build-burn-build-burn playstyle that Mongoose seem to imply.
After all of the changes to hunter talent tree, survival still feels bloated, with several unfun talents mandatory to take just to travel down the tree and a lot of those contradicting any kind of playstyle you would want to focus in. Pets talents blocking KC reset etc it's just dumb.
Is there a link to the BM hunter writer's first impressions of that tree?
This is a great response to the current tree. Good mix of constructive criticism, encouragement, and hope (which lots of players are looking for right now). A lot of the feedback points seem well thought out and could easily be implemented, or used as a starting point for devs to iterate on. Well done!
I no longer play WOW but still like to read wowhead, just a habit one would say. The author of this guide is amazing in breathe and detail. Clearly written and explained. Simply impressive
I just wish Mongoose Fury would change on Mongoose Bite especially if Kill Command is getting all these free procs. Change it to where the 14 sec starts at your 5th stack, maybe lower the duration to 8 secs~ or lower the max stack to 3. The only thing Kill Command resets really help is Fury of the Eagle. I don't have Alpha so I still don't know what we can all do especially with Ranger Talent. With Explosive Shot being 30 sec cd maybe have KC lower its cd in Survival tree.
Finally getting some Melee abilities I hope. Been a while since they were removed,Survival Hunter should be Good with Pets and Ranged, but specialize in Melee/Traps.
