Nice read. Thanks!
Wow, some random on Wowhead putting in more effort than Blizzard for their own game, nice work.
If the difficulty remained the same then it's all fine. The raids were already undertuned compared to what new raid in regular season should feel like and that's fine because they are probably aware of the lifespan of this season. I don't see too many people doing these after first 2 rotations so the tuning has to be lower and the way it was on day 1 felt just right for that.
The fact this had to dumbed down to explain to people is quite sad. It was plainly understood from the Blue post.
Interesting read! Nice detective work.
The bug was really odd and unique. Interesting to read thoughts/theories on it. Glad wowhead posted. I hadn't the faintest idea why it bugged out in this way but absolutely was interested in the phenomenon for curiosity's sake. This seems like an accurate assessment of the situation.
This is great investigative work. Love to see more stuff like this on wowhead.
Wow, The dude with many talents. You can even hypothesis test!
Pretty sad to see that even in this neutral post (neutral as in not having strong opinions or discussing controversial topics, just reading and thinking about numbers), there's bitter people in the comments who felt the need to post an unnecessarily demeaning comment unprovoked. Not that I'm surprised or anything, it's not a coincidence that a big portion of T&E's sh*tshow segment is fueled by comments from here. I only feel bad for the people trying to moderate those comment sections, must be tiresome and mentally draining to have to deal with vitriolic comments every day.On topic, those investigative, theory-crafty articles are seriously my top preferred content in Wowhead. It's so interesting trying to figure out those things and catching a glimpse of the game's inner workings.
Something is seriously wrong here. The problem is things are being scaled that are not supposed to be scaled. When you are at maxlevel your damage should always remain the same. Scaling was intended for leveling dungeons and there are a lot of problems with this as well. Right now if you have a level 10 Tank you will outdps EVERYONE in a scaled random level dungeon. At level 40 or 50 you are a lot less powerful then you were at level 10. so your reward for leveling and progressing is that you actually get worse. And on maxlevel this should never be the case (apart from timewalking heroics). So if in any maxlevel raid your damage numbers do not have any "normal" value that will not change then you are playing snooker with a rope. The Dungeon or raid itself needs to be changed to it matches up with your numbers. You cannot start balancing the numbers a player puts out with the numbers a dungeon has.Same thing happens with Shrouded Affix. Depending on the dungeon each Shrouded mob gives different %. As if they are less or more valuable in different dungeons.I went a 16 Grimrail yesterday with skilled players and very good gear and things just oneshot us all the time. One tick of lightning at the last boss did 60k damage, two ticks from the 2nd bosses focus fire attack meant death.Today I went the same dungeon with less geared players and while those skills hit hard they didn't hit as hard. I didn't look at the logs for this but there is something wrong going on.And on lower Karazan a lot of the numbers are not balanced as well. On the Boss with the 4 adds the adds life is way too low but their damage output is way too high. They buff each other like crazy and depending on how CC heavy your setup is you get a completely different fight.Overall there is just so many things in this season where Blizzard seems to be completely out of touch on how to balance things. Double Legendary and 4 set affects on what players can output and it just feels they didn't adjust raiddifficulty for this at all. And if they really "Buffed" the bosses and then "buffed" the numbers players saw then I am not sure that is a game I want to play any more. Because I want to have comparable damage numbers to improve. And depending on how many people are in the raid and how much health the boss has these numbers might change. And what is that worth then. And with the dungeons - I don't know what is going on there. But it feels like playing snooker with a rope. But that's okay because you can't even see the balls under the carpet.
