The light has struck a bargain with the enemy of all.The stars, they die.Welcome, to our city. To our prison.Where the light has died, and even darkness is no more.A world, united. A soul, restored. The hungerer awakens. The eternal conflict, no more. Now, what matters most.War, the end of war. The last war.The war for life, the war for death. One will be consumed by the other.Ah, at last, her true face is revealed. She was your salvation. To enslave the light. To save a world.United, we stand. Or we die, alone. The light is in the darkness. The darkness is in the light.
Unlikely
I'm torn; the faction conflict has been going on a long while, and some might find it tiresome, which I understand, but having no factions going forward just wouldn't feel like World of Warcraft anymore.

I think there's a small typo in the first paragraph. Where it says "with the ghosts of Rhonin, Kinndy, Varian, and Usher coming back to haunt her." wasn't it supposed to be "with the ghosts of Rhonin, Kinndy, Varian, and Uther coming back to haunt her."?
I wanna see all these conflicts ending, but I know Blizzard is saving material to more xpacs. u.uugh.Anyways, I can't see Sylvanas as Garrosh 2.0 or Arthas 2.0... not yet.My 18-years-old-Thraina-heart melted when I saw them together, but I know Derek can put a knife into his sister's back anytime. :v
I hope they won't discard factions xP
"but Thrall taints the tradition by using the elements to kill Garrosh, dishonoring them and himself".That's a point of view, not a fact. I understand the creative freedom you want to express, but the things there are posted in here have a huge impact on the mentality of some players, so a statement like that shouldn't be passed as truth/fact in such a trivial way. It's well-established that the participants of a Mak'gora may use any tools and weapons of their choosing, as long as they are previously agreed upon. Garrosh, a Warrior, agreed to fight Thrall, a Shaman. The elements are a part of the deal. What you are pointing actualy is another example of Blizzar's mediocre lore-writting, much like all of the Sylvanas plot we've been so painfully having to endure throughout this pitiful expansion.
Warcraft without Alliance vs Horde isn't Warcraft. It's a cheap super hero movie knockoff with dull as dishwater characters and a terrible plot.
Faction conflict is the foundation behind the entire Warcraft IP. If they are silly enjoy to ruin the entire IP by eliminating factions there's nothing I can do to stop them, and frankly wouldn't be surprised considering the level of mismanagement of their products. However, I think that's unlikely and even in recent interviews they've been pretty straightforward about faction conflict being important. I just don't see factions going away. However, this is so similar to the Garrosh plotline I can't believe they've allowed it to progress in this way. It makes me curious if they actually did plan this in advance or if it's almost made up as they go along (obviously it's done somewhat in advance, but not the 2+ years in advance they always proclaim it is). No, there won't be a Sylvanas trial and all that, and they will claim it's "all so different" just because there's a tweaked ending. I assume the next expansion we'll go to Southrend and defeat the Queen of the Frozen Throne..
I'd personally like if they made factions removed, i don't really care what i play, alliance or horde, i just like doing pve content, such as raids, fighting enemies of azeroth. But i don't think it will happen.
I think it's pretty likely. I don't think Sylvanas will be garrosh 2.0 (as in, she's exactly like him EXCEPT we won't get to fight her, she'll just leave the seat of power on her own to work in the shadows).A lot of people, myself included, are really tired of the Horde vs Alliance trope. Especially because since Wrath they haven't been able to sell the conflict with legit arguments. Especially when, at the same time, they're trying to build this huge cosmic world of old gods, void lords, light lords etc. No matter how well they write it (and they don't), the Alliance Horde stuff seems petty in comparison.I for one would welcome a faction-less world of Warcraft. That's not to say you can't keep the pvp concept alive with war mode. But in warmode off, I'd love to come to Silvermoon as a void elf, relax in Stormwind as an undead, visit Darnassus as a Tauren .... Oh wait.Seriously though that would be absolutely great.
Warcraft is not Warcraft with the faction conflict. I mean we don't need full scale wars but we can still have conflicts between the factions. But unfortunately the playerbase for "peacecraft" is growing in numbers and blizzard will do anything to please these huge but soft playerbase. So I'd say this what many people have already said "R.I.P. Warcraft"
It will be cool for me as orc to become subordinate to humans and lose relevance as NE and Draeneis to human potential.
So let's take the thought exercise. What could Blizzard do that would provide gameplay?Well, first is that all the capitols become Sanctuary Cities. What does this gain? Well. What if we have the idea of "allied factions"? Just as you built up reputation to bring in races into your faction, now you work towards establishing an embassy with one of the major cities, with each faction having a preset starting point. For instance, Darnassus and Thunder Bluff may be neutral, but Darnassus and Under City start as Hated. Your work would be towards establishing an embassy, with exalted being a fully functional embassy in that capitol. For ease of gameplay, allied races would lump in under their "kin" race: Lightforged/Draenei, Nightborne/Blood Elves, Void Elves/Kul'tirans/Humans, Dark Iron/Dwarves, Maghar/Orcs, Zandalari/Trolls, Highmountain/Tauren.Thus, in this scenario, you could have FOUR main factions. The Forsaken are kicked out of the Horde, so the main flow gameplay is to re-establish the Forsaken within the Horde. The Night Elves *leave* the Alliance, so the main gameplay here is to convince them to come back. Stormwind and Orggrimar would also build embassies in each other's capitols. The end result of earning exalted with the opposing faction's is unlocking the ability to have that linked pair be a part of either faction. So if you set up an embassy in Stormwind, you can now have an Alliance Orc, or a human/Kul'tiran Horde. Why keep the factions? Because they are distinct entities. I mean, the US and Canada have strong allegiances, but they aren't one country with one governing body. Each major faction has their feel, and we need to have some distinction. You can be different without necessarily being enemies, and war can come from many sources. This mechanic would give massively long legs to 9.0 - since people would work really hard to build embassies across every faction to be able to unlock the ability to play any class with any faction. And by gating the advancement by how much each faction likes/dislikes the other provides gameplay options. Do you try and crack that nut of the hated faction first, or same that until the end?And yes, while this is not "World of Embassycraft" in the real world, there are embassies in countries that fight each other, and I am pretty sure each major faction will have their "hawks," just that those hawks will either be rogue agents or future plot points. At the end of the day, whatever Blizzard intends, it will come with a gameplay mechanic to keep people engaged. an "Allied Faction" mechanic would not only provide that engagement, but give players something they have been desiring for ages, as well as piggy back off now mechanics: phased locations (embassy progression) and reputation grinds.
