The BlizzCon Book: A Celebration of our Community

Greetings, friend,

In life, you often don't know where your path will lead. But you usually end up in a good place when you take the journey with an open mind and an open heart. When we started Blizzard in 1991, we had a shared vision and passion for making games that we wanted to play. We were also fortunate enough to find others who shared that passion. Soon, we found ourselves creating more than games.

We found ourselves creating worlds.

These virtual worlds were places that we wanted to hang out, adventure, and play in. Following the launch of World of Warcraft, and the enthusiastic embrace of the game, the first BlizzCon was born in 2005. At the time it felt like it was the next logical step to celebrate and share our passion for everything we had created.

Now thirteen years later, BlizzCon has grown to be so much more than we could have imagined. Not only has it become my two favorite days of the year, it illustrates how special it is as a place to come together and share the things we're all passionate about. BlizzCon is a great example of how positive and powerful a community can be. We started out making virtual places to play in, but in the end, you created the community we always wanted to be a part of.

We hope this book will help take you on a journey that highlights our wonderful community. These pages are a homage to the triumphs, failures, wins, losses, and many other epic experiences we've created and shared.

Thank you all for daring to see the world as we do, and for making BlizzCon a place where we can experience those feelings together.

BlizzCon season is about to get underway—this Wednesday, September 12, at 3 p.m. PT, join us at BlizzCon.com for the live BlizzCon 2018 All-Access Kickoff show! We have a ton in store this year, including free debut episodes for a host of original video series for this year’s BlizzCon attendees and Virtual Ticket holders:

Drawn to Adventure—Witness the creative process in action as Blizzard artists share their insights and talk about what inspires their craft.
The Vault—See historical items from our games that are too important—and in some cases too fragile—to keep anywhere other than under lock and key.
Elite Cosplay—From concept to creation, witness the dedication, passion, and love of the game required to compete with the best of the best at BlizzCon.
Pause for Laughter—Get ready for an unconventional, whimsical look at Blizzard games and the unique personalities who make up our player communities.

Our BlizzCon All-Access hosts Michele Morrow, Alex Albrecht, and Malik Forté will be on hand to kick off the festivities with an array of special guests from across the Blizzard universe. Tune in for some exciting announcements about this year’s show, as well as the unveiling of the in-game item for Overwatch available to BlizzCon attendees and Virtual Ticket holders. We can’t wait for you to join us!
