15 days really isn't too bad. IMO this should be how long it takes to unlock flying in the expansion-launch content.
I think a short gate on flying is fine. Being forced to at least experience the zone from the ground a little bit can be nice.
Why does the article picture look like a floating titty?
15 days isn't bad, but this still feels like a poor way to implement it. You have to grind out the currency, then wait six days for it to research? Twice in a row?Grinds are rewarding when you get the payoff -- this model separates them, and for many people that's going to impact the satisfaction of the unlock. If people can't have flying until 15 days in, just wait 15 days to make it available, then make it immediately accessible.I enjoy world quests and side quests and go out of my way to do them. The new zone looks beautiful and I can't wait to play through it. But all those days of research just feels gross. I hope they get to the end goal of two weeks some other way.
Here's the problem:People are divided here and saying "I prefer buying the license" or "Bruh forget buying I'd rather grind this out"But picture this:This requires a currency to buy the conduit / upgrade, right? We don't know yet how plentiful these cyphers will be. I'm not trustful of Blizzard so let's say we get a huge handful of Cyphers via dailies or whatnot. But there are other upgrades. We COULD spend 200 on this upgrade and make progress but what if we really wanna invest it elsewhere - say for something like the ability to make some mounts?BAM - you just lost a day or two worth of progress when it takes a LITERAL WEEK to upgrade some of these things. I don't mind grinding for flying - if you wanna see a pretty fair example of this try either FFXIVs Aether Currents (Exploration and Side Quests to unlock flying in a zone) or even 'Catch-up Covenant Campaign' (Considering how fast you get Renown now, you could probably trailblaze through the Campaign at lvl 60 and within a few good hours or so get flying - provided and assuming you were new to the game and didn't have it anyways). This? This once again is just a grind. Not as bad as Pathfinder flying I'll give the naysayers that, but it's still an arbitrary grind.
nice, can we get flying in the maw .... i wanna catch up some events :)
At this point why do they even bother to restrict flying at all? They know a lot of people are unhappy with not being able to fly, they also know they are going to introduce flying to the zones at some point so why not just design zones with flying in mind and have it available from day 1? Having an arbitrary two week restriction seems even more bizarre.I've seen the "they want you to explore/see the zone" argument but I don't get that at all. You can see the zone whilst flying, in fact I'd suggest that because people aren't urgently trying to run to their destination and avoid getting knocked off their ground mounts by an absurd amount of hostile mobs people would actually take more time to take in what the zone looks like on their flying mounts the first go around.
More time gating, blizzard will never learn and never change, no one should expect otherwise.
What? You have to do four hours of work in the span of three weeks? I'll wait a year before trying. Why can't these things just be done for me before I start playing?
