NVIDIA Graphics Card Driver Hotfix Addresses Instability in WoW

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 610.52 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 610.47.

This hotfix addresses the following:

Resolves a frame pacing issue on certain monitors when G-SYNC is enabled
Resolved an issue that prevented the EDID from being read on certain monitors causing them to be identified as "NVIDIA NV-Failsafe”
Improved gaming stability in multi-monitor configurations when using V-SYNC with DLSS Frame Generation
Resolved an issue where certain monitors would not wake from sleep mode
Gaming stability improvements
Resolved an issue that could cause jittering or ghosting in some DirectX 11 games when Smooth Motion is enabled
Resolved an issue that could cause some games to crash when launched with Smooth Motion enabled
General stability improvements when the system fails to create a new allocation

A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released. Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver. The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down. To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out. As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.

Comment by AlustrielIm sitting with drivers that are more than a year and few months old and have 0 issues , its about how people optimize their graphic settings and overall pc settings that result in bad playing experience , not drivers or at least rarely. Unless people have severe issues with the game , i suggest to not update anything , nvidia drivers are at absolutely horrible spot since January last year and there are always problems that affect different GPUs every time from glitching to burning cables.Comment by throchaOh my god, they finally fixed it. I use a 3070 laptop GPU and the game has had this issue where it freezes for like 5-10 seconds after which the world is completely textureless and textures are slowly loaded back in over like 15-20 seconds. This started during early War Within I think and was mostly just an occasional annoyance that occurred when opening the transmog menu. It has however gotten way worse since the release of Midnight and it has been regularly occurring in almost any situation and guaranteed to occur when going to the appearances tab. The only solution has been to run the game in DirectX 11 mode, which sucks because a number of visual elements are disabled in DX11 and it also performs worse. But now they finally fixed it, thank heavens.Comment by throchaWhy would you ever update video drivers if you don't have issues? WoW is an old game, it does not utilize bleeding edge tech or smth. I have a 4060 and logged in to check the usual obvious issue I have with the "appearance" tab causing a reload. Everything worked great and no reload happened. Nobody is telling you to update if you are not experiencing issues, this post is here to inform people that there is a new driver available that fixes certain issues that many players are experiencing with specific hardware. Do you folks think every wowhead post is created specifically for you? Even checked the 50 series and that version isn't available either. Nvidia users should always stick to their "stable" driver versions, these days more oftenly refered to as "studio drivers" ---gameready drivers ARE NOT stable versions. It's happened less since I upgraded from a 2080 Super to a 5070 a couple of months ago, but it still happens occasionally (and seems to be worse when it does happen).

For those who haven't experienced it, this is what happens:

1. while looking through one of the collection tabs, the screen freezes
2. after a few seconds, the screen goes totally black
3. after another couple of seconds the game's visuals begin re-rendering, with every object and UI element gradually popping in again.

If this hotfix will fix that specific issue I'll download it right away, but otherwise I don't see any reason to rush. Until I got the 5070 I just stayed on DirectX11 because it only happens with DirectX12, but on the 5070 I get a higher framerate with DX12.Comment by AlustrielWell, there hotfix, it did not work, so I used the DDU program -cleaned out the new version and reinstalled the pervious version, works great. As someone else noted, multiples times per day, usually at random, my driver would crash and the game would lockup. Everything disappears and then slowly reappears over 15-20 seconds after which the game will work again. My favorite was when this crash would happen during a boss/elite fight. It was always a lottery if I survived or not. This issue started for me in the middle of The War Within. I have a 4060 Ti. And now it's fixed! Not a single crash since I upgraded. They actually fixed it! Thank you Nvidia! Although it took WAY TOO LONG. But I am grateful nevertheless! To be honest, I didn't know they were working on this or that other people suffered with this issue.Comment by DerStahlFor anyone using older hardware, I highly recommend sticking with DX11 paired with an older driver version. For example, a 2080 running DX11 with driver 556.12 works like a charm.

In general, it’s advisable to stick with an (older) driver version if it runs without issues. There are really only three scenarios where you should update your drivers: There’s a security vulnerability that could affect you (e.g., if your computer is vulnerable to remote attacks with the old version). Or you have a bug that is fixed in the new version. Or another, new game forces you to update.

Otherwise, disable automatic driver updates and don’t let Windows or the crap GeForce Experience take control of it.Comment by PandeyUpdated fixed my fps issues slightly.
