The Tillers

Farming: how to plant, grow, and maintain crops, as well as how to expand a farm.

Tillers Union: covers the main questline in which the player wins union votes from Halfhill residents, daily quests, and Tillers reputation rewards.

Tillers FarmingThe Tillers: Learning to FarmPatch 5.2 Additions

You can inherit the farm from Farmer Yoon if Exalted, in Inherit the Earth, when he's asked to take on a role at the Tiller's Council. You can then set your hearth to your farm, from the Farmer's Journal inside the home.

Sunsong Ranch now has Work Order quests that can boost your reputation with two factions per day. You must have unlocked that faction's dailies in order to be eligible for Work Orders and plant various seeds, which award +400 reputation.

Seed bags have been added, that allow planting of crops 4 plots at a time.

Yoon's Mailbox has been renamed to Sunsong Ranch Mailbox.

The yield from special crops has been improved to make farming them competitive with gathering these items out in the world.

Running the Master Plow across underground Virmen will cause them to pop out of the ground at 30% health and stunned.

Wild Crops will now occur less often.

Patch 5.1 Additions

Players can now grow Unstable Portal Shard on their farms which turn into one of four capital city portals at random. Check out the complete details here.

Players can purchase Portable Refrigerator for 10 Ironpaw Token each.

Runty crops will look more visible in 5.1.

If you plant a vegetable crop and are already Best Friends with Tiller NPCs, you'll get useful bonus profession seeds instead of gifts you no longer need.

FarmingFarming Your Crop

Before you start, Farmer Yoon will give you a series of quests preparing you to manage your farm.

Your crop is a phased area unique to you by Sunsong Ranch (unexpected bonus in PvP areas). You start off with four soil patches, but it looks like it can be increased up to 16 as reputation is unlocked.

Buy seeds from Merchant Greenfield in Halfhill Market, and plant them in your patch of soil (click on the patch) at Sunsong Ranch. Higher reputation levels unlock more seed types.

When the crop is "growing," it is in danger of requiring maintenance (see next section). Tend to your crop and it should be good to go.

After a day or so (there's inconsistent growth patterns), you can harvest the crop.

Harvesting the crop will yield 50 reputation at level 90 (no reputation below), and vegetables as well as a chance of additional seeds.

For (or free with Best Friend status), Jogu the Drunk will make a prediction as to which crops will yield good harvests tomorrow. However, it seems his predictions are a bit off as the mentioned crops yield nothing special.

If you want to plant something else, Dented Shovel removes the existing crop, but your initial seeds will be lost.

You can start tilling at level 86, but you won't gain reputation for crops until level 90.

Planting Your CropMerchant Greenfield

Vegetable Seeds used in Cooking cost --this should help out with Cooking ingredients too. They can grow all vegetables.

Blossom Tree Seeds cost and are available at various reputation levels. Planting these seeds allows you, one day later, to harvest an item that plants a tree, lasting for 3 minutes anywhere in the world.

Profession Seeds require Revered with The Tillers and cost . These seeds passively acquire various profession reagents.

Raptorleaf Seed: "The raptorleaf is a carnivorous plant which is known to devour virmen, hawks and other small creatures. It dies after a single meal, releasing seeds into the air and often leaving behind the remains of its catch." 1 Mist-Touched Leather

Mogu Pumpkin Seeds

Snakeroot Seed: "Snakeroot reaches deep into the earth, coiling itself around mineral deposits." 2-4 Ghost Iron Ore

Pink Turnip Seeds

Songbell Seed: "The harmony of light and dark bell flowers on this plant has inspired Pandaren song and poetry for millenia." 1 Mote of Harmony

Red Blossom Leek Seeds

Windshear Cactus Seed: "The windshear cactus is covered in millions of fine needles which filter air as it passes through. Windwool fibers and scraps of material drifting in the breeze often collect on the cactus." 1 Windwool Cloth

Growing Your Crop

Crops can be in one of 10 negative states that need your assistance to be remedied. 8 are found in freshly-planted crops, while an additional 2 can be encountered between harvesting and tilling.

Farmer Yoon offers some farming tips, but they're more confusing riddles instead of helpful advice.

Use Flex to get stacks of Dominance. Interrupt Vine Slam, which removes 6 stacks, with Gnaw. Once 50 stacks are reached, the crop is subdued.

Expanding Your Farm

All players start out with 4 soil squares on their farm. You'll most likely reach 16 soil squares at least.

Completing the quest chain for the Tillers Union, in which you befriend and gain votes in Halfhill Market, will unlock more squares.

Friendship with Tiller NPCsOverview and Rewards

10 Tiller NPCs have Friendship bars, which are similar to reputation but don't have normal Normal/Friendly distinctions. Instead, there are six segments of 8400 friendship each, with the best level obtainable at 42000 friendship. While gaining friendship, you'll also gain some Tillers reputation.

You can check up on your friendship status at the Tillers Shrine in Sunsong Ranch.

Friendship levels:
Stranger: 0-8400

Acquaintance: 8400-16800

Buddy: 16800-25200

Friend: 25200-33600

Good Friend: 33600-42000

Best Friend: 42000-42999

The easiest way is to give each NPC 5 of their favorite food each day. Completing these meal quests will grant 1,800 friendship.

A harder way to gain reputation is to give friends specific gifts. These are found in piles of Dark Soil to the north of Halfhill which unfortunately cannot be tracked on the minimap. Each friend will grant 540 friendship per gift. In addition, there's one gift each NPC really wants, and turning that item into the specific NPC will grant 900 friendship instead.

Some quests give friendship--either quests that signal you've reached a new friendship level or select dailies.

Best Friends with Old Hillpaw will add chickens to your farm and send you Straw Hat.

Ella adds Luna the cat to your farm, and sends Tree Seed Pack with Blossom seeds inside.

Fish Fellreed adds 3 pink pigs and mails Special Seed Pack, which has profession seeds inside.

Farmer Fung adds Shaggy the Prize Yak and sends Enigma Seed.

Gina Mudclaw adds a mailbox and mails Celebration Gift which has fireworks inside.

Sho mails a Red Cricket and adds an orange tree to the farm.

Chee Chee sends Chee Chee's Goodie Bag which has cloth and leather, and adds sheep to your farm.

Haohan Mudclaw sends 3 Songbell Seed and adds "Miss Fifi," a mushan pet, to your farm.

Jogu the Drunk sends Secret Stash with alcohol in the mail and won't charge you anything for crop predictions.

Tina Mudclaw sends food and adds furniture to the farm.

You'll also complete the following achievements as you befriend more NPCs: Friend on the Farm, Friends on the Farm

Food and Presents

Food can be turned in once a day for 1,800 friendship.

Gifts can be turned in as many times as possible per day. The are BoP and cannot be traded.

Mousing over an NPC's friendship bar will tell you what food and gifts they really like.

Friendship Quests

Daily quests Andi gives you. You need to give a gift (not to be confused with the Dark Soil gifts) to a friend, for 1400 friendship.

Other daily quests (generally collecting or killing) that end at various friends, like Not in Chee-Chee's Backyard for 2,000 friendship and 150 reputation with the Tillers.

Regular non-daily quests that are accessible once you hit a new friendship level, like Lost Sheepie, for 2,000-6,000 friendship.

Tina Mudclaw is a popular lady with a lot of jewelry that gives 3750 friendship when returned: Nice Necklace, A Very Nice Necklace, Tasteful Tiara, Exquisite Earring, Beautiful Brooch

Actually, if you plant the crop he predicts as doing well, when you harvest said crop, you'll receive 2 extra of the crop.
So if you plant all 16 of that crop, you'd end up with an extra 32, which isn't bad at all. If you're simply after Ironpaw Tokens, paying attention the crop predictions will get you there faster (if you're turning in crops for Bundle of Groceries).Comment by 525447This post was from a user who has deleted their account.Comment by 1023919This is not a "Farmville" tribute it is a "Harvest Moon" tribute, much older than farmville. I love it! Harvest Moon was one of the first of it's kind I ever played and I own them all. I love the whole gift giving and all the critters I have built up. I finished up best friends with the last 3 tillers today and I have enjoyed every minute of this grind (and I hate rep grind) Blizzard has made rep grinding not so tedious since this Xpac. I look forward to doing dailies now. But I have one question, it gives an option to have people work on your farm once you have become best friends. Can you have everyone there all at once or just one at a time? Right now Ella hangs out there and Jogu lives at my pond.
