Though I'm not personally into it as much as I'd hoped, I'm glad that the DF narrative and story was different from the last few expansions. That being said, I really hope i'm not playing therapist for 90% of the NPCs in the next expansion.
Is there a taxi that can get me to the end of this NuLore and back to where Chris is in charge?
I haven’t been paying much attention to DF story as past expansions so maybe I missed something but to me it’s just so sloppy. Who the primalists are is never answered. How did they learn about Raszegeth? Why now free the primals? Who leads the primalists? How did Fyrakk even learn of the druids of the flame? Fyrakk has been shown to hate mortals and is a crazy from shadow flame yet has no problem organizing an army? All these things just don’t matter as long as there’s bad guys to hit I guess.
There are some heinous inconsistencies in DF's writing and it seems like the devs aren't too keen on fixing them. It sort of feels like we're rushing this expac in order to get to the next one.
Imagine going to therapy irl then playing dragonflight to partake in more therapy
omfg they do NOT actually say "WoW is a living world, it's not static!"WoW is THE MOST static world I've ever seen lmao. zones are left to rot, stories are barely fleshed out, characters get put on the sidelines and ignored for years, the list goes on.These questions are REALLY GOOD, calling out a lot of the inconsistencies and things everyone has noticed is great, but these answers... i get that they aren't critique their own work but oof...
To be fair, most people who complain about the lore or writing don't even read quest texts. There is a mountain of lore to swallow and in every setting of every game, comic, show and movie, there has been a 'faulty narrator'. As there has in real life. People used to believe the earth was flat, then we retconned that when we discovered that it's round. Does that make the first set liars? No, they had a different perspective that led them to honestly BELIEVE that what they were telling was the truth. They went around and told EVERYONE. The leading scientists of the world, political factional leaders, fathers and mothers, they all went, "Ho hoho, lemme tell you about the edge of the world!" They were uninformed, ignorant, not in a mean name calling way but in actuality. It's the same with all lore from all universes and concepts. Time passes, things change. However, when you present new information, change is always challenged. So you'll have wowhead commentors be all, "WoW, Blizzard doesn't even know their own lore. In Vanila there never used to be a world soul!"And then years later they argue over what a World Soul is. It's a baby Titan, right? It has to be because someone said so!Only it's not just a baby titan, is it? It's a large wad of sentient energy with the possibility of becoming a titan.. or a void titan.. or.. Why did Death want it again? >.> Or maybe it's primal in nature! Or what about let it be a Nature Goddess, let Elune raise this baby as a sister? We don't have to know everything. Which is good for us and the lore, because we never will.
They call the game's previous story, created by an earlier but very talented narrative team, as if written by the titans. This new expansion tells us that the Titans are evil, some kind of fascist force who want to control us, and we need more inclusive lore. It would be racist not to allow a man'ari draenei discriminatory to be a paladin.
Wow. These dev responses are..... uhhhhhWell, let's just say these dev responses are very eye opening as to what to expect in the future. And it's looking like that future is somewhere in classic.Good luck to these devs. I don't think retail is what I'm going to enjoy anymore.
Guys, this is just a PR stunt. They have been instructed how to answer, provided guidelines and practiced it. They have been given a heads up on what the questions are. The current story is a snorefest. I feel like a broken record. The purpose of a cinematic is to SHOW HOW A CHARACTER FEELS, NOT TALK ABOUT IT. Every cinematic before BFA, launch cinematic excluded, showed how a character felt. Was it rage? They acted on it and translated into action. Was it grief? They have shown it in action. In the Frostfire Rdige ending cinematic you can see that Ga'nar is proud of his chieftain. You can see his feelings telegraphed into his charge into the enemy army. Meanwhile, the DF cinematic: I feel sad. How does that feel? *starts crying*. No, mother%^&*ers, you make the cinematic dramatic you see visions of why Nozodormu is sad, you see sand swirling around him to protect him. You SHOW glimpses of Alexstrasza's betrayal. I guarantee you this creates hype out of nowhere. Out of this boring story. You know what else would have created hype? HAVING MALFURION IN THE PATCH THAT SCREAMS HIS NAME.
Actually awful answers. Even when presented with a different opinion in a question the answer is simply: No, you are wrong. What we do is fine because we are doing a great job.
these are who answers these questions now ehaight then
I'm tired of hearing about the "islands awakening" because it means nothing. At face value and how it's explained here it's presented as if the entire set of islands were in a magically-frozen state and only came back to "life" when they started "awakening." Except that's not how it worked. The islands simply went without the Aspects and kept doing its thing with the other inhabitants. We've got evidence of this, and one of the general NPC lines is about them living long enough to see the aspects returns, and a couple named NPCs talk about how the islands have changed so much since they were gone they barely recognized them anymore. We've got Titan constructs that are breaking down due to age and their memories have corrupted and they've turned hostile. And IIRC one of the devs was asked this and they stated the islands were not magically frozen. So I wish they'd set a hard definition on what they mean by "awaken" and stop referring to it like the islands were in magic stasis until we show up with the Aspects.
Didn't know (or rather totally forgot!) Anne Stickney was part of the WoW's storyline team. I remember from the days of her writing on WoWInsider, now BlizzardWatch blog covering lore details and coming up with lots of good suggestions while also pointing out the obvious inconstancies.Looks like it's not an easy job to do when you have to do it yourself! Much easier to be a critic rather than narrator 😉
