These guys drop the Barnacle Encrusted Key for looting the Cursed Swabby Helmet from the chest in the bottom of the ship, however it has kinda low chance, I got mine from the 27th kill. -.-

A tip for speeding up the key farm: When they cast Depth Charge let them finish it and if you're ranged then lure them next to the bomb or if you're melee, stun/root/snare them, move away and let them explode. Bombs hurt them for 350K aswell.

It took me around 15 kills to finally get my key as well. Good tip from earlier, have the Hozen cast their bombs then drag them through it, this will help kill them far faster as it does a lot of damage to them.

Location of these NPCs is south part of the timeless isle underwater there is a shipwreck on map

Got the key on the 25th kill. Be sure to avoid all the stuff they throw at you:

- the Depth Charge
- the Harpoons (strafe right left)
- the melee attack that is not announced as a special attack but binds them in place and does heavy melee damage

Every one of them drops a deep-sea diving helmet after he dies. So be sure to pick it up.

It should be noted that you can't loot these mobs if you're in a raid group. For some reason.

In my experience, after two or three fights with a Cursed Hozen Swabby, a fight will end with the corpse replaced (or hidden) by a large bomb. When the bomb explodes, my L90 PC is killed (even with 90% health or more).

No one specificly mentions this. ~~Has it been introduced in Patch 5.4?~~

Perhaps the swabby cast a Depth Charge just before dying, but I have not noticed any sort of evidence that the swabby was doing so instead of otherwise fighting with my PC.

There are only a few seconds after the bomb appears to avoid the blast. The radius of the blast is stated to be 5 yards, and I doubt that my PC can move away fast enough to avoid it entirely. ~~My guess is that the damage will be the same whether the PC is 1 yard away or 4 yards away.~~

The only thing that has worked is to cast Divine Shield. However, it has a cooldown of five minutes. Since the bomb can appear after any fight, including the very next one, waiting for Divine Shield to become available again has not been a reasonable option.

Perhaps stunning the swabby shortly before he dies would stop this from happening, but it would have to be done routinely. Casting Depth Charge requires only 2 seconds, which is barely enough time to even see a signal that it is underway before it ends, let alone respond to it. This is compounded by the fact that these fights tend to be rather short, as the swabby has not been an especially tough NPC for my PC to kill.

UPDATE: My PC returned to the sunken ship and fought five or six Cursed Hozen Swabbies before he was killed by a Depth Charge.

Before the Cursed Hozen Swabbies died, they held a Depth Charge above their heads, and a casting bar appeared beneath the panel that has their portrait with their health and mana bars. The progress indicator moves very quickly, since the casting time is two seconds, but a stun ability (e.g., Fist of Justice) will interrupt the cast and prevent the Depth Charge from exploding. Else, your PC can move away to reduce the damage, if not avoid it entirely.

During my first visit to the sunken wreck, I did not realize that the swabbies were holding a bomb above their heads because their bodies were at an angle away from my PC. So all I saw of them was their head covered by a diving helmet during the fight, and that would suddenly be replaced by the huge Depth Charge. It looked as though the swabby had died and been replaced by it. Given the distraction from the change in their appearance, no doubt that I overlooked the casting bar (if it was shown).

During the third visit, my PC looted the Barnacle Encrusted Key from the second or third Cursed Hozen Swabby that he killed. He killed two or three more before he opened the treasure chest, from which he looted the Cursed Swabby Helmet. :-)

For some reason, these mobs cannot drop the Epoch Stones for the weekly quest Empowering the Hourglass. I usually hit these guys up first thing each week along with the other weekly chests, and even when I complete the Path of the Mistwalker daily to kill 20 elites before I get my Barnacle Key to open the chest I'm always left with 0 stones.
