Could this be the long-promised Jewelcrafting companion? Let's consult the Magic Eight Ball.

"Signs point to yes."

Most likely a Jewelcraft-made pet, the other one being Saphirjunges. Nice!

Edit: This is now confirmed to be made by jewelcrafters. Recipe here: Vorlage: Jadeeule

Going to throw a wild assumption at you and say it'll probably, most likely, look like a mini version of Alystros der tiefgrüne Bewahrer.... however you know blizz it could well turn out to look like this.

Looks like those green owls in Dragonblight, model here.

It seems that the owl is magical battle pet, skills are found here.

Crafting one of these requires 600 JC, 3x Wild Jade and 3x Spirit of Harmony

If you are looking for this pet for pet battling, be aware that each 'item version' becomes an uncommon pet. Do not be deceived by the fancy blue letters.

I have made around 10 owls, each turning out to be uncommon. I believe it is safe to say that they are guaranteed uncommon quality. Which does make sense, seeing as how they're 'jade' owls...which are green... /endfailjoke

However, we can now upgrade our owls with the new Battle-Stones.

Edit: Added additional information, revised.
You were right, Aquifel!

This pet is not a flying companion. Bought it to go along with my jade panther and it drops out of the sky when summoned.

I received this in my Golden Lotus bag after completing the daily quest chains.

One of two JC pet designs available from:

the Treasures of the Vale,
the Ancient Guo-Lai Cache
or a small chance to discover the design from your daily Serpent's Heart transmute.

The other being the Sapphire Cub design.

I finally received my owl design today from my Treasures of the Vale reward (after becoming exalted with the faction a few days ago). Due to a recent hotfix (11 Dec 2012) Mumper confirmed that all crafted pets will be uncommon quality.

You will need:

3x Spirits of Harmony
3x Wild Jade

Even though the recipe is BoP, the pet itself is not so you will see these in the AH. Be aware that they will appear as a rare when created but will only be uncommon when learnt. Keep this in mind when you decide to purchase it from the AH.

The Flawless Magic Battle Stone may be come in very handy for this. There’s also a very small chance to obtain a general purpose Flawless Battle-Stone after winning a match against a wild pet while defeating higher level opponents increases the chances of obtaining a stone. Note that the latter are not soulbound and can be sold on the AH.

The best pet possible for taking down Aquatic pets. It's in the magic family, and so resists aquatic attacks, but has flying attacks, which do extra damage to aquatics.

Kommentar von 1062573

This is an EXTREMELY good pet despite first appearances of being weak, being the best pet in the game to counter Aquatic pets. As a Magic pet, it takes reduced damage from Aquatic abilities and most of its attacks are Flying (and fairly good flying attacks at that), which are strong against Aquatic. As of this time, it is the ONLY magic pet with such attributes, making it a very unique pet indeed. Note, however, that as a crafted item, the only quality you can find it in is uncommon, so be prepared to have to upgrade it with a Flawless Battle-Stone.

This is also a fairly good pet for leveling weaker pets. You can find very large numbers of Aquatic pulls near the lakes in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, and these pulls will have either 2 of 3 or 3 of 3 pets being Aquatic, with the final pet sometimes being Flying. This pet can easily smash those pulls with little effort, allowing you to bring two low level pets that don't contribute but soak up experience.

Schätze des Tals from the last Goldener Lotus daily of the day, or
Uralte Guo-Lai-Truhe if you happen to loot an Uralter Guo-Lai-Truhenschlüssel, may contain
Vorlage: Jadeeule which teaches
Jadeeule which creates
Jadeeule, this companion item, which teaches
Jadeeule which summons
Jadeeule, the battle pet.

Edit: The recipe is now also available from Juwelierskunst's Das Schlangenherz, added in patch 5.2.
