What is Raider.io Score

Raider.io score.
Raider.io Score or IO as it is commonly known is a cumulative scoring metric for dungeons, like a pseudo MMR of sorts. IO is calculated by taking the highest completed dungeon that you do in time (or if you do a high enough one out of time that will count as well) and attributing points to it. The cumulative total of all 12 dungeons is your overall IO score.
What is it used for
Like any metric, IO is used to weed people out whenever you are looking for potential suitors for your group. There has always been something, whether it be gear score, item level, class, raid progression, AOTC, or whatever other metric there would be to determine whether or not you would be a good fit for the group. Some people believe IO is toxic, but honestly it is just another metric that allows players to gain information prior to inviting somebody into their group via LFG.
So with that said, let’s talk about how to gain IO.
How to gain Raider.io Score
So first and foremost, there is no science on how to gain IO, and what may be a good solution for some may not be a solution for others. Regardless of this, there will be bits of information that is useful for all.
LFG
Getting in voice is a cheat code
Dungeons can be done 2 levels higher just by getting in voice with people so you can coordinate things more readily. I know it is uncomfortable to get into voice with people you do not know from LFG, but getting more comfortable with it will help you gain IO very quickly relative to not getting in voice.
Reroll to a better class
If you are insistent on using LFG, be prepared to be declined from groups if you are not a flavor of the month class. I would recommend rerolling characters to something more meta if you are insistent on using LFG as your primary source of gaining IO. The reason I say this is that nobody wants to be excluded from groups and it becomes demoralizing to be declined so often, so playing something where you would be more accepted is better.
Stop using LFG
LFG is incredibly bad for being able to gain IO at a consistent rate once you reach a certain point. In addition to that, it is very easy to become demoralized when you are getting declined from groups because you do not have the prerequisite IO or are not playing something that is the top tier in the meta currently. Thus playing with friends or guild-mates is normally your best bet, especially since they would be more willing to play with something less meta than normal groups in LFG that just see your name, class, and IO.
Networking
Like anything in World of Warcraft, Raider.io score is a huge byproduct of who you know. Being invited to more groups will come with time, but building a network of players and people who want to play with you is the first step. Make sure you add people to your Btag that you find fun to play with or good, and try to play with more people who are known variables.
IO is your foot in the door
Think about it like a College Degree for a job application. While IO is not indicative of skill, IO is a good way for you to be qualified to do keys with that group for the first time. Whether this is LFG, a guild group, or a group of miscellaneous friends, IO will be your opportunity to be able to get into those groups for the FIRST TIME, but after you get in for that first key then your play really will show them who you are as a player.
Make your own group
This especially is relevant to group-finder but also has application in higher end groups. The by far best way of gaining IO via group finder is by listing your key as the key. Even if you deplete it, even if that key is not score for you, just listing the key and rerolling it into something else is the most time efficient thing and it makes you in control of the key itself. In addition to that if you meet cool people who are good you add them to your friends list and invite them to bigger keys in the future.
Playing with people who are better than you
There is no “fast track” to success with M+, but if you are playing with a group that is better (Higher IO) than you take it as a learning opportunity. Use it to pick up on strategies that you have not seen before and use it to really broaden your horizons. Also, if you perform well then you may be asked to come back and integrate yourself into that group as less of a temporary member.
Be willing to do keys that are not score for you for practice
Group finder is that dopamine hit. That instant hit of success because you can find a key that is a tangible upgrade, the instant gratification. Eventually you reach a point where you no longer can always get score upgrades out of LFG and need to actually push keys to gain score. At this point you should be willing to play down from your level in hopes of pushing keys up or meeting cool people. This is an absolutely fantastic way of meeting new people and beginning to build your network.
Attitude
Having a good attitude and being willing to take value out of every dungeon you do is very important. It is easy to tilt or get frustrated at others' mistakes, but you have to keep your cool in the heat of the moment.
Stay Humble
Leaving your ego at the door is so important in a game like World of Warcraft. Tilting when mistakes are made makes the runs far less enjoyable for all players, and mistakes happen. You should learn from mistakes and instead of asking “Why did you do that” you can ask “What happened and how can we fix that.” Also, if something goes wrong mid run, derailing the run to talk about it at that moment is a mistake. Talk about it after the dungeon and discuss how you can change it for future runs.
Be Introspective
Looking at how to improve your own play is very important because at the end of the day IO is an individual metric for most people. There are a few things that you can do to help yourself be introspective and grow as a player.
Local Record / Stream your runs - This is important because you are never going to truly remember what happened in hectic moments unless you watch it back. Recording runs should also be a learning tool and not a blame assignment tool.
Constantly tweaking your UI - There are things that you can always add or remove from your UI that are helpful or not. Adding more weakauras to help you track more things that you need in dungeons are really nice. Highly recommend sound effects for them.
Be available
The chances that you get invited into a group is way less if you are not online in game. Nobody will really message you on discord until they know you very well. Sometimes as well you will need to pursue the groups yourself. You can do that by checking group finder every few minutes and hopefully you get invited to something. Sometimes you won’t get invited, but don't give up.
