Hello! Welcome to the 263rd edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
10.0.5 is here and players are discovering all the lovely new transmog! This week we take a look at what players are finding fun in Dragonflight gold making as well as ranking professions. We also look at more casual methods of gold making and what to do with an alt army.
My name is
Samadan
and I'll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!
Fun Detected
Usually a title such as this comes with news of some nerf or some such, but this is a genuine reflection on how players are enjoying the new profession system.
I'm addicted to prospecting so much I 'm not even playing the game anymore
Not a space goat been prospecting r2/r3 serevite ores for 2 weeks now and it just felt good even if I'm not making much off of it. Anyone else feel the same?
No but yes lol Not prospecting but I'm like OMG DF is so much fun, I love it! Meanwhile ALL I'm doing is mining/herbing and fishing lol
hastalacheesta
Fishing is super fun now. Props to Blizzard.
It just feels worthwhile because there’s a new achievement tied to a toy, fishing is a part of the tuskaar renown, and there rare fish now too. It just feels more valuable
I got addicted to blacksmithing. I made my first million this week and I can’t stop developing my auto reply customer service weak aura that calculates required material ranks for users and pulls the price data from TSM and crap like that. Talking to the hundredth person about where to get a fiery soul etc. happy times.
Largely, this is all down to players finding depth and purpose in what they are doing to make gold. The way the systems are designed is that the only real way to make gold is to engage with the system, there are no "get rich quick" schemes or passive gold making. Even the prospecting above requires a significant investment of knowledge in how it works...
In order to be profitable with prospecting you need to have as much skill, resourcefulness and inspiration as possible (in that order).
Skill increases both quality and yield from a single prospect. Resourcefulness obviously saves ores. Inspiration is there to push you from R2 to R3 if your skill is not high enough to get there without inspiration.
Bare minimum you need the following KP:
https://www.wowhead.com/profession-tree-calc/jewelcrafting/BDlACC2uhZBe
And you can level up to at least 95 if you create a dragon hoard every few days (takes a long time, but is cheap to max the profession):

Multicraft is completely useless stat for prospecting and crafting speed only affects how long it takes to process a stack.
So the next tree to focus on provides general skill and resourcefulness to all crafts (including prospecting):

Going into inspiration afterwards only if you really need to.

talks about how they made gold cap my engaging more with players on their realm and setting up crafting orders ...
Really appreciate this sub and just wanted to say thank you.
Never cared about making gold, started playing wow in BFA, never had much gold.
Made flasks in SL and got to few million with that and the mission table. Have not much time to play DF due to exams but leveled Juwelcrafting, without any exploits or knowledge, missing some knowledge points for the first weeks.
Bought the lariat recipe mostly for myself and Friends, had no time to farm for it.
Started advertising to get back some money when i had more free time 12 days ago, after being hesitant about it as a rather shy person.
Since then i made over 5 Million gold Profit, roughly 500k/day. Most people are really nice and thankful for explanations.
I just sit in valdrakken in the evenings and enjoy the interaction with ppl.
I craft 392 for free, 405 10k 415 15k. Returning customers get 50% off. Would do it for tips but i am afraid of mass reports and a automatic trade chat ban. Got the 1000 personal orders title 2 days ago.
I bought my friends things like the transmog yak or the black hammer recipe for their profession (without them asking, i asked a question about it, they farmed it with no luck, i just bought it for 75k). I am really thankful for all the ppl appreciating the crafters and for all the tips in this sub.
I dont really know what to do with (for me) so much gold, besides skip timegates like tuskaar rep with fish or wrathion/sabellian rep. Never played the AH.
This is a fantastic recounting of how engaging with other players can reap huge rewards both financially and mentally.
The key here is finding something you enjoy doing, trying it out and having fun.
Professions Ranked by Penguin
Penguin2gt
has a great video this week going through her thoughts on professions and ranking thm from best to worst..
Of course this is mainly personal preference and your own mileage may vary, but the key points are why and what makes each profession strong or weak depending on playstyle. I won't list the ranks here as I feel it's much better to watch the video.
Casual Gold Making with an Alt Army
Now, not all of us have the time to fully engage with profession as they are intended with collecting knowledge points and taking time to get to know our fellow customers.
Previously, this type of playstyle could be covered with things like Mission Tables, but with none in Dragonflight, we must look to alternatives like
u/hopeaintopii
did...
TLDR:
Get to 60 -> Fully allocate Transmutation sub-spec -> Use cooldowns -> Start another character
I'm in my thirties with a full-time job, a wife, kids - basically the busiest time of my life. Not only are my online hours limited, they're also split and splintered unevenly throughout the day especially now that the holidays are over. I might get 15 minutes here and there, two more minutes while waiting for a work project to load up, and so on.
I love the new crafting system but quickly found out I have no way to keep up with knowledge points or renown levels. Instead, I decided to focus on virtually guaranteed means of income selling items with no quality levels. After trying out various things I settled to three ways of making gold:
Alchemy transmutations (Awakened Air/Earth)
Dragonriding world quests (bi-weekly)
Feral Hide Drums
Both transmutations and dragonriding WQs have timed limitations, making them perfect candidates for utilizing multiple characters. At the time of writing this I've already given up on the drums as the profits are too thin for my taste and they depend largely on buying during cheap days and selling during busier days. I made roughly 100 000 g profit with them.
Gold made
I currently have 4 days left on my token, with
507 987 gold
made across my 12 characters on this specific realm. 8 of them are currently alchemists, and 10 are level 60+. As I mentioned ~100k is from drums and I've stopped making them. Still plenty enough to buy an EU token each month.
Alchemy
You currently need level 60 to unlock everything needed. Once an alt is level 60, I follow the following steps:
Use main city portal to Valdrakken and get alchemy
Level up to 25 skill (
https://www.wowhead.com/guide/professions/alchemy/leveling-dragonflight
)
Gather up 25 knowledge points. I usually get the grandmaster points (+5), the treasures in Waking Shores (+6), the treasure in Ohn'Ahran planes (+3) and the treasures in Thaldraszus (+6). Sometimes I do the profession questline for +4 points from the shards. Any remaining points are from first time crafts while leveling up alchemy. This step is far from optimized, I just wing it with each alt
Level up to 50 skill (same guide as earlier), buy transmute air from the trainer, buy transmute earth from the AH
Allocate 5 points in Alchemical Theory, and 20 points in Transmutation
Then it's simply a matter of logging in every 2-3 days and using every transmutation cooldown!
Dragonriding WQs
All you need is world quests unlocked and level 60 to do them. Time or rank does not matter - all you need to do is finish. Each of them are worth ~510 gold and take roughly a minute to complete. You get 4 at a time and they reset every 3 or 4 days. These are a great way to start as setting up alchemy takes some gold.
Additional info
But gathering / crafting / <younameit> is better GPH!
I'm sure they are, but they also have risks involved and require much more time online. My method is virtually foolproof (for now *fingers crossed*) and after the initial setup only requires a brief login. I can log in, buy transmute materials, go afk, come back 5 hours later and do the transmutations. Or I can start flying towards a dragonriding WQ if I have 30 seconds to spare, and complete it once I have a minute to spare. Customers waiting for a recraft on their gear might get angry if I just disappear
How to level up characters? I level up solo doing quests.
I can highly recommend Harldan's route
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gMy9THrOzhlZTyVYZNWzS-C1fyQy-GTnWz6miNsTbu0/edit
Dungeon boosting / timewalking / cobalt assembly / gimmick number n is faster for leveling!
I have been awfully unlucky with any kind of dungeon runs lately - even if I did have some time I get a work call, or the baby wakes up, or reason x stops me. Solo questing is always steady progress no matter how little I get done :)
How many characters do you need/is optimal/is too many?
I will continue making alts until it takes me significantly more than 30 minutes to do all my alchemy cooldowns. If you have the time to spend hours doing transmutations and WQs, you're most likely better off doing actual crafting
You should add tailoring cooldowns! And engineering!
Personally I feel like R1 chrono/azure cloth profits are razor thin and not worth it. Engineering might work, but again, I feel like spending any available time to bring more alts to 60 and transmuting will be most efficient in the long run
You can enter Valdrakken at level 58!
Sure, and feel free to do so. My preferred leveling route takes me to 60 comfortably, and I believe 58-60 is a matter of 15 minutes or so. While alchemy can be learned at level 58, world quests require level 60. By entering at 60 I'm sure I can do WQs even if I don't level up alchemy right away
Good luck everyone!
Notes since the last post
There's usually one or more quick (<1 minute) dragonriding WQ right next to a flight path - these are the only ones I've been doing. Start flying, afk while waiting --> less than minute to complete the race --> HS to Valdrakken. ~1 minute of active gameplay for 510-540g. 32 000 g / hour if you want to make a clickbate youtube video!
Awakened elemental market has been all over the place lately and I'm glad I pushed several of my alts to 50 and unlocked fire, air and earth transmutes. Going forward, I'm going to push all my future alts to 50 as well. Spending some extra gold now is worth it when I can do any of them all expansion
Tailoring cooldowns have been doing somewhat better, and some of my alts now have either azure or chrono bolt unlocked
I am going to be making some of my future alts scribes & engineers. Skill 25 & 25 KP unlocks treatises and soul inhalers. With the cap of 4 public work orders per day, these have been going for 200-300g each. I strongly suspect the cap is too low right now and blizzard will increase it shortly, but variety is variety
Once again, this is not the most effective way or highest gph. But it's making me steady gold, and I sure am glad I don't have to care about any of the weekly profession quests or if I have enough knowledge points!
This is a really well thought out strategy and useful for players who cannot dedicate solid amounts of time to the game. Many like to play, but family/outside commitments mean that often they must drop a play session at a moments notice. I count myself amongst such players.
Of course, the master of alt armies
Zanzarful
has the Alchemy transmutes covered in video form!
