You get this as a Drop from elementals around lv40 and higher. One of the best places to farm it is around Maraudin.

Deeprock Salt is also needed in the quest The Hero of the Day during Winter Veil and will sell for a ridiculous amount of gold during this event as most people (myself included) are too lazy to go farm it.

If you really want to farm some Deeprock Salt, don't even waste your time somewhere else other than Badlands, there you will find those Rock Elemental:

Lesser Rock Elemental - http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=2735

Rock Elemental - http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=92

Greater Rock Elemental - http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=2736

Enraged Rock Elemental - http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=2791

Basically they are in the borders of Badlands.
If you are going to collect the salt to use in your Leatherworking, remember to have enough to refine it later, you will need it to make Refined Deeprock Salt.
And by the way, I hope you have time, because the drop rate is really low! But don't give up if you don't find it at the first 10 kills, it will show up soon or later!

I've found that the "Heavy War Golems" in Searing gorge drop Deeprock salt more than any of the other places listed. Also, if you keep up with Leatherworking like I did, you will be around this level when you need deeprock salt/ refined, which means you can do some of the quests in the zone while killing these, also, keep in mind that there are a lot of these things around, since the kill quest is around 20 Golems. The level of these is around 46-49, they do have some armor, but if you have BOA gear or a main they are a joke, just make sure to pay attention to the loot you get, I've gotten around 3 blues off of these mobs; keep in mind that this was during my entire stay in Searing gorge, all said I probably went to the next leveling zone with around 50 deeprock salt, which is not even grinding these mobs hardcore, like I said this was WITH questing. The respawn is meh, but I wasn't complaining, due to the fact that the drop rate was around 1/4 golems you kill will drop deeprock salt. Good luck leatherworkers!

- Also I haven't killed any of the elementals around this area, Magma Elemental and Inferno Elementals, but they also may drop Deeprock salt, level 46-49 as well. Don't forget there is also a quest to kill these as well, located just below thorium point, a little to the west, you'll find two humans talking to themselves, fear not horde, this quest is available to both factions.

Is it just me or has the droprate of deeprock salt dropped to 0?

I tried about a dozen NPCs, farmed for hours now and got 0 dropped.
This all happend after the last "big" patch.....
Anyone to confirm this finding?

Well, after Cata came out all drop rate are changed it lookt like. so iv only fond it on corrupted cliff giant`s in feralas. helps even more when u got mining to use:) good drop rate to

Got a friend with 230 Mining to come out and mine a few. 3/5 of them gave Deeprock Salt, and they were Green for 230 Mining.

This was easiest for me.

If you have mining loot the rock elemetals in the badlands then mine them , i got 8 deeprock salts out of 10 kills after mining them.

Following mobs listed are no longer in-game:

Raging Dune Smashers (Tanaris), Dune Smashers (Tanaris)

Infernal Bodyguards & Land walkers are Horde only, but did not see them even as friendly for Alliance.

I've been trying to get this stupid stuff all day. I'm working my way down the list.

Earth Elementals in Inner binding in Arathi are not dropping them either.

Got it on first try from mining a "rock elemental" in Badlands. If you have mining I definitely recommend trying that first.

Need to have mining. Tried for an hour on my main and didn't get one drop. only took two kills on my alt. Mine them off of corrupted cliff giant in feralas.

After about 40 minutes of farming the War Reavers in the Ruins of Thaurissan at Burning Steppes, this is what I walked away with:

Looted:
Inert Elemental Shard x 6
Inert Elemental Fragment x 3
Inert Elemental Piece x 1

Loot and Mined:
Pretty Rock x 53
Interesting Rock x 6
Colorful Rock x 18

Mined:
Shattered Rock Fragment x 54
Deeprock Salt x 5
Mithril Ore x 2
Thorium Ore x 3
Star Ruby x 1

With the pretty, interesting and colorful rocks, they were more likely to be mined from the Reavers if I'd looted them.

I've found the Desert Rumblers in Sillithus to be a great source of this stuff. They're the only mob in Crystal Vale and respawn quickly. They also (rarely) drop Essence of Earth and Elemental Earth. The Inert Elemental Shards they drop routinely are worth hanging on to as well. A stack of 20 is worth 6g and you'll likely end up with several by the time you're done.

As of patch 4.0.3a, I found that the best mobs to farm are the Obsidian Golems in The Sealed Halls right outside of the instance entrance to Uldaman, but still within the cave. I found 2 golems, and the first one that I killed dropped a Deeprock Salt for me.

I got 5 Deeprock Salt in about 30 minutes farming in Maraudon (more rock elementals on purple side than orange). Spent about the same ammount of time in Badlands and got none ¬_¬

I've only found deeprock salt from killing and then mining the corpses of Frosthard Rumbler in Winterspring very near Everlook. I mined about 20 in an hour. I tried on my LW/Skinner alt everywhere with no luck at all. I just happened to find these questing on my BS/Miner. While farming the salt, there were a few Thorium Mines so pretty nice variety of farming in one spot.

I don't know but seems everyone can't get deeprock salt anymore, just the miners can get it now. This makes Leatherworking pretty difficult while no salt is ever in the AH.

Leatherworking is now even grindier. Miners don't farm elementals, they farm nodes. Deeprock salt is rarely on the AH now that it's such a rare drop, and no miner is going out of his/her way to collect this when they could be mining ores instead. Maraudon purple side (exterior) seems to be the only reliable source for this post-Cata as a loot drop, and even there the elementals are few with long respawn. Why does Blizz continue to make crafting slower at the same time they make leveling faster?

Read through this post and found out that I had to go to Maroudon (with my Priest---> AOE)....
BUT checked AH on my Server.....wooooot bought 45 for 45s each...
All I need now is having my Engineer create the Shaker, then I'll be lvl'ing a lot of lvl's making Cured Rugged Hide.

The Tempered War Golems in Searing Gorge provided ten salts in under 25 minutes of farming.
It should be noted that I had zero drops - all came from mining the corpses of the elementals.
Badlands was not nearly as productive..

Searing Gorge around the Grimesilt Site in the eastern part of Searinf Gorge. Kill Tempered War Golems, take the loot, and then mine the dead Golem. If you don't have the mining profession then you can't mine the Golem and therefore you cannot get deeprock salt.

I soloed Maraudon today (lvl 85 rogue) and I can tell you that there is a nearly 100% drop rate of Deeprock Salt from the patrolling rock elementals (when you mine their corpses.) You encounter about ten of them in the run, and the great thing is that they are accompanied by four small adds - AND when you kill them they split into another 3 tiny adds. That is 8 mobs in all that you can mine, and in almost every occasion I got Deeprock Salt. At the end of the run I had 62 salts. Now whether or not this is practical for a lower level player I can't say...

Deeprock Salt can be farmed in the NorthWest Corner of Sillithus. Just finished an hour there and came away with 2 stacks.

MINING SKILL .... nothing above tells you that the ONLY char who CAN harvest Deeprock Salt is a MINER. Those comments make it seem like a straight-forward grind. NONE of them tell you THIS key fact. In N.W. Silithus, Desert Rumblers are a good source of Deeprock Salt (I just pulled 13 in a 30 min spell) ..... but only because I could MINE the Salt from the CORPSES of Desert Rumblers. If you cannot Mine, then you are wasting yer time ! (If you are a miner, then this area is rich in Thorium, and the Rumblers, BEFORE Mining, drop Essence of Air/Element of Earth etc etc).

I don't have a miner in my realm that my lvl 60 rougue is at, so here is what I did. I entered Uldaman at the back entrance and stealthed into the Temple Hall. In addition to the ancient stone keeper there are two or three other stone golems in the area. I've found that every time I head in there at least one of them will drop deeprock salt. Once I've cleared that area, I stealth back out, reset the instance and head back in. It's worked every time, but it does take a while

I decided to take a trip down to Molten Core for the new battlepet. A full clear of with a level 90 hunter (no miner) yielded 22 Deeprock Salt's.

I can confirm that ANY character can collect Deeprock Salt from mobs - you DO NOT have to be a miner. I am currently soloing my way through the classic dungeons (for Achievements) with my lvl. 87 N.E. Hunter; my professions are Herbalism and Skinning, yet in one night, through 4 dungeons (Uldaman, Lower/Upper Blackrock Spire and Molten Core) I looted over 30 Deeprock Salt. If you hang on to them until the AH levels are fairly low, then they can sell for a significant amount - stack of 5 for 15g!

One trip thru lower Maraudon yielded 29 Deeprock Salt. A mining toon is not needed, but helps, some drops were from mining rumbler corpses. Also got 33 Thick Leather, 13 Rugged Leather and 3 Thick Hides from skinning.

Obtained 19 salts in 50 minutes by running through MC on my 85 Disco priest. So if someone is going for legendarys, reputation or some TM gear from Molten Core, I advice you tag along. :)

Try lvl 30 dungeon Maraudon - Earth Song Falls. Got plenty down there, remember when you see mining sign on dead bodies, right click instead of left click.
