At lvl 77, when I got the ability to use my flyer, I went looking for these schools, and found one in Howling Fjord at 85,91. I landed on the small piece of ice and started fishing. Suddenly, a shark fin ran straight through both the ice and me, it was a lvl 83 elite shark named Big Shirl. Didn't attack, probably since I was on dry "land", but it almost gave me a heart attack. Just a warning to those who's trying to swim out there.

If you guys find yourselves without the means to walk on water to fish these pools, submerge and look upward -- in many cases, there will be ice platorms hidden just below the surface of the water that can be used to fish from. In fact, I was able to find a platform for every pool I fished.

Here's fishing map, of the area south of the Borean Tundra, where there are spawn points of Deep Sea Monsterbelly, and Moonglow Cuttlefish.

Water walking and levitation are helpful, but optional. There are small groups of broken ice sheets. You can also hop from the water, onto the 45-degree edges of the large icebergs. Some can be a bit deceptive. Watch for places where the slope touches the water, without a ridge.

Of course, flying negates most of these obstructions.

For anyone who is still confused where to find Deep Sea Monsterbelly and Moonglow Cuttlefish schools, they spawn all around the icebergs in the FROZEN SEA of Northred zone which is just SE of Borean Tundra, but not actually in Borean Tundra.

The schools are all around around 30,67 in the Frozen Sea... and to use those coords properly you need to open you map and veiw the entire continent of Northren, not a specific zone inside it.

Here is a Map showing the area of these pools, notice the map is of Northrend and not Borean Tundra, this is what it will look like when you are actually there.

If you still cant figure out how to get there for some odd reason... go to the Borean Tundra head towards the coords 81,58. It will trun into the Frozen Sea as you get close

Note: You will need a minimum of 480(or somewhere around there) fishing to cast here and about 550 to not lose very many.

Just found out about these due to the Gigantic Feast. I had my girlfriend's daughter fish for me for hours (gotta love a 4 yr old who is simply eager to play) and received like 6 stacks of 20. I went nuts when I found out that they sell between 100g and 200g buyout. Posted 3 or 4 stacks and saved the rest for myself to cook!

I went to the icebergs in the Frozen Sea (Borean Tundra). I've been able to fish the Deep Sea Monsterbelly there before, but all I could find this time was the Moonglow Cuttlefish. I flew all through Borean Tundra with Find Fish tracking on, without any luck :(

These also drop from fishing the water out near those spawn points.

I wouldn't waste the 10 minute lure buff flying around looking for places, just cast your lure and you will get a fair amount of these anyway.

If you guys are fishing for this in Lich King, why not turn on Track Fish which im sure most of you have by now. Its alot easier to find the nodes. And yes i was able to fish every node i saw from an iceberg that was near by.

found them around SE iceberg of Borean Tundra, just like the other people said. Thanks for the info.
I found alot of pools, but Deep Seas Monsterbelly school will only spawn after I fish up some of the Moonglow cuttlefish school over there.
at fishing 450, +30 fish pole, +5 fishing hat, +3 Truesilver line, +75 lure = 563 fishing skill, still lose some fish there.

A few people are have seen it fit to down vote others that are still helpful while upvoting their own junk.
IF they are STILL helpful, stop downvoting.

You can use water walking, but if you get tapped by anything that causes damage you will lose your "lev/walk" and more then likely have to fend yourself with a fishing pole. So I dont suggest it to fish, just to get to where ever you need to be.

They do spawn in the other "pools" and I have found other fish in the Monsterbelly pool too.

I myself found it hard to get onto some of the floating ice so I Flew( if you dont fly yet just jump up on) to the slopes of the icebergs and fished from there. My aim was off and I found out that I missed quite a few even with maxed out fishing +25 pole + 2gloves. So above is right, you'll need lures to make it go faster.

Depending on how many dedicated anglers are on your server these can fetch a nice price at auction. Since one of the two options for higher end cooking skill ups is Gigantic feast which takes 2 monster belly and 2 grouper, and the other option is Small Feast which requires two each of Glacial Salmon and Nettlefish. Many cooks aiming for finishing off their profession will be looking for these fish.

I wanted to add a couple of comments, because I was having a hard time with this fish trying to get my chef title.

For starters, I only could find this fish in the Frozen Sea, not in Howling Fjord or Borean Tundra. You can be off the coasts of Fjord or Tundra, but your mini map/local channel has to confirm you are in Frozen Sea. The nodes are much more plentiful near the Unu'pe/Death's Stand area of Borean Tundra, NOT Howling Fjord like the map indicates.

Second, if you just cast into the sea (instead of a node) you will have a hard time acquiring large quantities of this fish in a short period of time. I was trying to get 4 stacks of grouper and monsterbelly to level my cooking to 450 (via gigantic feast). By the time i fished up the 4 stacks of rockfin grouper, I only had fished just over a stack of the monsterbelly. This is why the best technique is getting them from schools ONLY.

They also share node spawn points with moonglow cuttlefish, off the coast of borean tundra. When I went to fish for them, there was only a bunch of cuttlefish nodes, and maybe 1 or 2 monsterbelly nodes. If this happens to you, you should just fish up all the cuttlefish so the node gets reset and you can hope a monsterbelly node respawns in its place. Its frustrating and time consuming, but if you need the title, recipes, skill points, or money (they sell very high on AH due to their pain in the butt acquisition) this seems to be the easiest and most reliable way.

TLDR Version: Best place to get them is from the nodes in the Frozen Sea area off the coast of Borean Tundra. Get them from nodes---not by just casting your line, or you will be there forever. They share spawn points with moonglow cuttlefish nodes, so if there's just a bunch of those and no monsterbellies, fish the cuttlefish up and hope a monsterbelly respawns in its place.

Confirmed: The location on the map (59,90) in the Howling Fjord does produce Deep Sea Monsterbelly.

While doing the new fishing daily called "Monsterbelly Appetite" I caught 6 Rockfin Groupers, 1 Deep Sea Monsterbelly, 1 Weeds(junk), 2 Moonglow Cuttlefish and the quest item (Bloated Monsterbelly which in turn produced the Severed Arm needed for the quest) and some misc trash near this location.

The spot on the map above is a place where you can stand in the Frozen Sea (see below) without getting fatigued. I imagine you can find these spots all around Northrend, though.

FYI - This kind of fishing makes it worthwhile to do the Shattrath/Old Man Barlo fishing dailies again, as Elixirs of Water Walking are very handy in this endeavor unless you have another way to stand on water while you fish.
Edit: As stated below, there are other locations which will not require water walking.. just find it in the Frozen Sea zone anywhere in Northrend.

I've just caught the fishing quest item on a little ice shelf just west of Venture Bay, at the Grizzly Hills / Dragonblight border. No fatigue issues, no need for water walking potions, and, as stated, no need to find a fish school.

Just go to wowhead and look up monsterbelly and it will tell you where to exactly go to get the fishing daily done. the co-ordinates are 59,90, south of howlin fjord

im completing this monsterbelly fishing daily with iron fishing pole and 385 fishing skill , no lures. no prob.

didnt even fish out one school and got the bloated quest item :D , fishing at icebergs directly south of unu'pe , lots of alliance , lots of competition but still easy enough.

This is because in 3.1, you no longer have to have a minimum fishing skill requirement to fish anywhere. The lower your fishing skill, the more "junk" you'll get (i.e. tattered cloth, sickly fish, etc), but you can still skill up, and you can still possibly catch some real fish.

Thus, someone with a fishing skill of 2 could come out here and fish as well, even with no lures.

didn't see this Frozen Sea (via Howling Fjord) coordinate listed, so here goes.

Frozen Sea coordinates (64, 81) for a pool of Monsterbelly.

This is near (15,54) in Howling Fjord, so you don't need to worry about fatigue while flying up around the Frozen Sea, if you just skim the edge of HF.

I don't know why people are saying you need this super high fishing skill like 550 and other things,because i had a skill of 388 and i was getting either rockfin groupers,or deep sea monsterbellys every time.I was fishing at 28,67 in Borean Tundra.

I found where u can find some. They're at the point 60.5 86.7 in dragonblight. you can fish for them off the platform that has fallen into the water off the broken road. In 4 casts i caught the two i needed for the gigantic feast.

Found 5 within 7 minutes in Dragonblight. At the Frozen Sea directly south of Wyrmrest Temple, follow the path south. Also fished a Moonglade Cuttlefish for u achievers :D

Fish mine just above where it's marked on the map of Dragonblight, over the ruins, standing in a pillar, lot of Rockfin Grouper and fished my Moonglow Cuttlefish together.

No schools required.

Just go in a straight line where Dragonblight map indicates till you see The Frozen Sea on your mini map, find a pillar and fish there. I fished with 525 skill + Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole + Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat

Finally got around to completing Northrend Angler, only to discover that deep sea monsterbelly pools are extremely difficult to find! I flew all the way from the eastern coast of Grizzly Hills, down to the southern coast of Borean Tundra before I finally gave up and came on here to look. And miraculously, I actually found a spot, but not one that's been mentioned, so here it is (the important parts are in bold!):

If you pull up the Borean Tundra map, find where Death's Stand is marked on the map and the river/ice delta that separates Borean Tundra from Dragonblight....find the middle point between the two landmarks and head south. You'll find a trio of very large icebergs out in the Frozen Sea...I found 1 monsterbelly pool (32.3, 67.1) and 2 moonglow cuttlefish pools (32.6, 66.6 & 33.2, 66.8) on the backside of the two largest icebergs. Being a shaman, I was waterwalking, but there were places on the ice to stand and fish if you can't. I fished all three nodes, so hopefully they'll show up on Wowhead at some time and I know the coordinates are accurate because I was standing right in the pools when I took them.

EDIT: Confirmed as of 8/27/2012, the day before 5.0 drops, these pools are still out there, except this time I found 2 monsterbelly pools and 1 moonglow cuttlefish...so while it seems to be a random assortment, at least they're still there. Also, here's a link to a map, in case the directions above don't make any sense. The yellow dots are approximate spots, since they move a little, and are mostly to catch the eye.

EDIT: As of 6/17/15, not long (hopefully) before 6.2 drops, these pools are still out there. I did a quick fly by while waiting for the boat and saw one. It was in a slightly different spot, but still right there on the backside of one of the big icebergs. Cheers!

Though it isn't shown here, pools for both the Cuttlefish and Deep Sea Monsterbellies also spawn along the various large ice bergs along the Borean Tundra coast from Valliance Keep to Dragonblight.

Just make sure you are out in the frozen sea, but not in the fatigue zone.

Though there are more spawns listed for this in Vash'jir than anywhere else, not sure if the spawn rate is very favourable there. Made four trips and scoured the surface around the atoll (shown on the map) as spawn points, probably spent a total of 2 hours all told and to date, not a single pool. Think I'm gonna stick to Dragonblight, would recommend you do the same to avoid time wasted..

I found some pools of these in Borean Tundra by the icebergs in the ocean. I didnt write the coordinates down to put here (sorry) but I did upload with the Wowhead client so hopefully they show up, as it was a pain even with all the helpful comments to actually find one. Also I looked all over Vashjir in the indicated area and never once found a pool of these, so my advice is stick to Northrend which makes sense considering this is a part of the Northrend angler ach.

Just like "MartyrPayens", got some just off the southern coast of the Borean Tundra (16.30:76.64) was right on the edge of a berg, on step further and the fatigue line appeared, but cast well into the deep edge (check your compass window for the dark sea bit) half hour got me 13 rockfin groupers, 5 moonglow cuttlefish and 3 DEEPSEA MONSTERBELLYS.

I found 2 pools of this fish in the Borean Tundra - they are technically in the Frozen Sea so there are no coords but they are located near the glacial iceburgs directly below Unu'pe on the map. Turned on Find Fish on my interface and found 2 pools of them.

Southeast at 88.57 in Borean Tundra, there's an island with a whole bunch of penguins past the fatigue zone, three to four Deep Sea Monsterbelly schools spawn around it. Best place to fish them.

I found a massive amount in Borean Tundra, of Deep Sea Monsterbelly and Moonglow Cuttlefish. The spot is not located on the map, but I circled it so everyone can Find it. South of Death's Stand in between two The iceburgs on the map. I am adding the picture to Screenshots so eveveryone can Find it.

Agreed with a previous poster - around 79,59 in Borean Tundra there are loads of schools of Deep Sea Monsterbelly and Moonglow Cuttlefish. The game will think you're in Crystalsong Forest though.

Found a good deal of Deep Sea Monsterbelly Schools and Moonglow Cuttlefish Schools @ 79.69, 54.50 In Borean Tundra near Icebergs. The exact coordinates are slightly off since when you land where the ice sheets are, the map thinks your in Crystalsong Forest.

I fished up the Sea Turtle at coordinates 30,67 in the Frozen Sea while going for the Deep Sea Monster Belly in a pool! GL all! :)

I too found the Deep Sea Monsterbelly fishing spots Southeast of Borean Tundra in the icebergs.

The spots are under Une'pe and Death's stand on the map, which is south and to the right.

I found three spots and got a total of 13 Monsterbelly's from them before waiting for respawns.
I logged out for about 15 minutes and when I returned some spots re-spawned with this fish, so my estimation of the respawn time isn't spot on but on that note, REMEMBER that just like most Outland fishing Monsterbelly and Moonglow both share spawn locations. If you see one or the other fish it and you have a chance of the other one spawning there.

spent hours, flying around the coast of Borean Tundra, Dragonblight, and Howling Fjord...never once found a school of Deep Sea Monsterbelly...now here's the part, where you down vote me folks:

I never had trouble finding it before...so I'm wondering if the spawn timer for these got nerfed.

After scouting for a school and finding none, I tried fishing open water, hoping that my fishing skill being 700 would "make it happen" for me. What I discovered was that with a high enough fishing skill, Deep Sea Monsterbelly are fishable from open water in any portion of the map that is labeled The Frozen Sea. I flew to the icebergs due south of Unu'pe in Borean Tundra (TomTom stopped working once I was in the Frozen Sea, but my best guess is about 76, 66), there I spent about 20 minutes fishing open water from a small floe and caught:

37 x Rockfin Grouper
25 x Moonglow Cuttlefish
14 x Deep Sea Monsterbelly
1 x Reinforced Crate (contained 3 x Frostweave Cloth)

I had very similar results in the waters south of Dragonblight and Howling Fjord.

No special pole, no special lure, 700 fishing skill.

After flying all over the place! Finnily got about 4 pools next to each other for "Deep Sea Monsterbelly School" At Location 81.89, 58.31 in Borean Tundra, Hope it helps! There is two Icebergs located on the map, its in the middle of the two, nothing but sea there and small Icebergs. :P

I wanted to clarify which icebergs off the coast of the Borean Tundra had pools around them. There are icebergs everywhere between Riplash Ruins and the Tundra-Dragonblight border, but only some of them have pools of Deep Sea Monsterbelly and Moonglow Cuttlefish. The ones between Riplash Ruins and a bit west of Unu'pe have penguins on them, but no fish pools. The ones directly south of Unu'pe until those directly south of the west edge of the Tundra-Dragonblight delta all have pools around them for these two fish. You won't be in the Borean Tundra zone; you'll be in the Frozen Sea.

On a map of Northrend (not the Borean Tundra zone), the coordinates are:
west end - (28.4, 67.7)
east end - (33.5, 65.8)

On one trip around each of these icebergs and icefloes, I found:
9x Moonglow Cuttlefish pools
4x Deep Sea Monsterbelly pools

From these pools, I fished:
34 x Moonglow Cuttlefish
15 x Deep Sea Monsterbelly
30 x Pygmy Suckerfish
3 x Reinforced Crate
2 x Crystallized Water

Started with a fishing skill of 410 and +25 fishing pole. No fish got away.
