"...bring you some food..." in my case meant providing 5xStrong Sniffin' Soup for Niffen in the bags.
Such drop seems like a random proc from the trinket. No need to be in combat for it.

The damage proc is called "Angry Friend". While the tooltip says it does 105k dmg, I've found that while attacking a single dummy, it often does 76.1k. With crits, I got 150k dmg. With my stats, though, it averages out to about 95k dmg. On a Neltharus 10 run, however, I got 111.4K avg normal hits, 162.1k on crits, and 136k dmg average per hit.

The healing proc is called "Helpful Friend". I don't have anything to share atm because it's hard to track. It seems to either proc very rarely, or its procs show up inconsistently on my details.

The stat proc is a buff called ~~"Encouraging Friend"~~. At full health, this procced the same amount as the straight damage. This may just be luck, but I seem to get versatility procced much less than mastery, crit, and haste.

At full health, I have yet to get the healing proc. It's possible that if you had lower health, you would be more likely to get the heal proc, but I'm not sure. The damage proc seems to have 3% uptime.

The direct damage effect very rarely goes off. However, the trinket does share a cooldown with other offensive trinkets. If you are looking to do damage then you are better off using something like Heatbound Medallion.
