The auto attack damage and the shield are separate buff effects, but the effect cannot be re-triggered while the auto-attack buff is active. However, you don't have to stand still for three whole seconds in order to trigger the buff. Standing still while in combat seems to start a 3s timer after which the effect activates, but it is not broken by movement. If you enter combat and continuously move, this effect will not trigger. But if you enter combat while moving, stop for half a second and keep moving, the buff will trigger 3s after you stopped moving. Seems broken, but no guides are recommending this stone at the moment anyway.

Further testing as Fury Warrior to see if the autoattack damage is worthwhile, for the few insane enough to think about deviating from the recommended stones on guides:

With 21% baseline haste, I was clocking in ~61 autoattacks over one minute. The Gleaming Iron Stone buff reads as a 419 autoattack damage bonus, with a 76.9% uptime-- 50s out of the whole minute. Assuming that means it buffed 47 autoattacks, that is a 19.6k damage boost. Desirous Blood Stone is hitting for about the same amount. During one course of this testing, Desirous procced 3 times in one minute, 18.5-19k damage each. RIP.

Even worse, trying to substitute Desirous with it in the Prophetic/Desirous/Humming combo will break the Humming Arcane Stone. It didn't just not proc from the shield effect on Gleaming-- Humming Arcane Stone did not proc at all over 4 minutes of dummy testing while socketed with Prophetic and Gleaming. The tooltip does not match the auto attack damage being given, probably around 50% of the advertised damage. Using this stone as a vehicle for the Shining Obsidian Stone damage effect yields good results, but its tooltip is wildly inaccurate as well.

Does this also increase the AoE damage of a Paladin's Crusading Strikes (the talent that turns Crusader Strike into an autoattack)?

This sounds better than it is, considering how no classes seem to prioritise this.
I can only assume it's because this is 400 physical damage, meaning it gets halved or worse in PvE, and the shield has a 25 second cooldown.

Got a random drop so decided to do some testing to see how well it fares.
Using Cat form: On mobs the damage is very inconsistent, ranging from 100 damage difference to 500 damage difference with ring equipped or unequipped.
Cat on the Training Dummy with ring: 3735 damage (7463 crit) over 750 swings. 88.9% (9m 8s) uptime. Shield has 43.0% (4m 25s) uptime.
Cat on the Training Dummy without the ring equipped: 3009 damage (6035 crit) over 740 swings.
(Cat form gives 40% increased attack damage)
