Can you only ever get this item through these quests? This means only being able to get 5 Sparks of Ingenuity. How can I make myself a full set of crafted epic gear if you only give me 5 of these. I hope its not this limited!

After the player has earned a total of five Spark of Ingenuity from quests, players will be able find Bottled Essence from virtually any activity to create more Spark of Ingenuity. They're meant to be rare though, and modeled after Legion legendaries, with the intent of players finding one every couple of weeks.

Once the season begins on Dec 12th, a second quest will award a second spark, with a new step every 2 weeks until the player has earned a total of five sparks.
At that point, players will be able find Bottled Essence from virtually any activity to create more.
They're meant to be rare though, and modeled after Legion legendaries, with the intent of players finding one every couple of weeks.

15. Fifth Challenge of Tyr: Ingenuity - Fly to Tyrhold Reservoir and use on Elite mobs Irideus' Power Core until 100%, one Elite is giving 19-20% then You need to do 5-6 mobs. Is 2 problems on that Quest:
- Only 1 player can use Irideus' Power Core on mob ;/ only one player will get %.
- Not all rare are for this Quest, I focus on Maiden of Patience, Maiden of Diligence, Tyrhold Watcher, Custodial Protector and Malfunctioning Protector

16. Innovating the Engine - You need to move very close to Panel to get extra bar, use it that will finish Quest and You will get reward Essence Detector.

This Quest is finishing Achievement In Tyr's Footsteps

From full Storyline You will get 5 Bottled Essence Use them on Panel to get 5 Spark of Ingenuity for Your crafting, after finishing storyline Yo uwill learn Essence Detector and You will be able to get Bottled Essence not only from Quests.

First day of 10.0.5 on NA. Thus far after completing the last 100% spark quest, I've gotten two in the past couple hours. One was from an expedition scout pack, and then second one was from a generic azure span rare. Unsure if I'm just very lucky or the droprate seems v decent for these.

I've looted 3 Bottled Essences since the patch (10.0.5 on 1/24/23). One from Disturbed Dirt (1/24), one from Magic-Bound Chest (1/25), and one from a Expedition Scout's Pack (1/25). I've been trying to farm a fourth but haven't had luck. Some open questions remain:

1. Is there a soft/hard cap on the number of Bottled Essences per week?
2. Was there a silent hotfix that may have impacted the drop rate as it seemed farming world treasures was dropping them pretty consistently?
3. Is there a soft/hard cap on the number of Bottled Essences per week per drop source? Odd that I got 3 and all 3 happened to be from different treasure containers, but could also be coincidence.

Rares now spawn on a fixed schedule, one rare will spawn every 30 minutes.
There are total of 28 rares in this cycle, so the full rotation takes exactly 14 hours.
This could be very useful as we know that rares also have a chance to drop a bottled essence and this might be the easiest way to "farm" them.

I've been farming mostly world content as well as some raid bosses and M+. Didn't get anything for most of the week, but today I finally got lucky. Mine came from a rare mob during the storm's fury event. If you want to hard farm it, my best guess is to focus on rares and dirt. Good luck.

I tried farming this for the past few days.

I had roughly:

Dug up around 400 piles of dirt
Opened about 200 chests/bags
10+ Mythic Plus dungeons, a few normals, and some raid bosses
Killed about 25 or so rares
Completed map of world quests

I got mine off a rare while flying around digging dirt. It appeared in my bags as a lootable item (some people were saying it wasn't a lootable item/currency?).

I've know a few other people doing the same as me, and haven't had any luck yet. I imagine it's just stupidly low RNG, not going to attempt to farm a second one!

Spent about 4 hours each day since tuesday farming packs/rares not to mention a handful of keys, full normal clear, 7/8 heroic and all lfr wings and a bunch of bgs/solo shuffle and haven't had a single one drop since the patch

While I love the customization of crafting, comparing these to "Legion Legendaries" is awful--and using the same logic is even worse. Legion legendary grinding was easier by the end of the expansion, but before then, it was a lot of random chance.

I'd much prefer if these had more guaranteed acquisitions. Why give us the ability to make crafting useless, then time gate/lock it all behind RNG, and wait? I am starting to think Blizzard didn't think the new profession system through beyond making sure it worked.

Don't know about the drop chance, but after 50 dirt piles, 20 rare elites and 5 mythic dungeons, just got one from Mythic raid Council.

An educated guess is that this has a significantly higher drop chance from rares, M+ and the raid. Based on that most reports are from those sources, and that the NPC's description lists them in another category before the other options such as treasures, arena etc.

My experience is getting one from M+ during the first week, and another from Stormcaller Narkena during the second week after doing basically every form of content that can supposedly drop them.

Personally i tend to believe that there is at least a "soft" cap to them. As in the first of the week is somewhat easier to get than following ones are possible but much much harder. My personal experience has been as such:

I dropped the first extra spark on wednesday night last reset, from a dirt pile, within the first 20 i gathered (i didn't even know they could drop, was just farming my profession points). Following that, for the entirety of last week i did dozens of rares (at least 20-25 per day) and opened at least 500 dirts to no avail.

Yesterday, on EU reset, i dropped my second extra spark from the very FIRST rare i killed in the day (Blisterhide).

Now it could of course all be a coincidence, but the timing of my second spark drop is very suspicious considering i killed well over a 100 rares in the entirety of last week to no avail and the moment the server resets it drops pretty much immediately.

Regardless of how it actually works, i find it distasteful that Blizzard would not take 5 minutes to put out a blue post explaining the actual acquisition method, and instead leave thousands of people farming dirt and other potentially useless stuff (if indeed it has been stealth nerfed.)

The fact that after the final Spark quest you no longer receive one at last bi-weekly is bad.

You have two other core elements of the game, the first is the professions, which people strive for more knowledge points so that they can create better gear for themselves and other players and the second is Mythic Plus, which people farm Primal Infusions and Concentrated Primal Infusions to upgrade said crafted gear.

This thing's drop rate being so low staggers these two above core elements of the game and renders them useless, since people don't have Sparks to utilize them.

Can anyone confirm if these will drop from other rares that are not listed? There is a list of 28 from EU that supposedly drop these, and wowhead has a list of 22. Im wondering about the accuracy of these lists.

Edit 3/5/23 To confirm that Bottled Essence can now drop from any world rare, raid boss of any level, mythic keystone chest, paragon chests, digsites, and I assume many other places within Dragonflight. I have monitored this page and hunted extensively, and I have gotten three drops since 10.0.5 went live on Jan 24, 2023 (approximately five weeks). One of mine came from the "every 30 minutes" list, one from a Valdrakken paragon chest, and another from a world rare not on the list that is so frequently hunted. I have seen them drop in M+ chests on a +2 and also on higher level keystones. The list above continues to grow week by week, and its pretty apparent that the most frequently looted bosses have the highest number of drops such as Bisquius and Captain Lancer, and I will make an educated guess that the droprate is 1% across the board from kills. Originally there was a bug in which people were looting large amounts from Disturbed Dirt, Expedition Scouts Pack and Magic Bound Chest, but this appears to have been fixed, and the rates from these items are now incredibly low.

So far it seems to be 1 a week, since they made it farmable, i have gotten 3/3 on 2 characters, completed 8/8 on raid, filled vault for mythic + and just farmed rares every 30 mins

Things that are really rare and completely block profession progress like Bottled Essence (Sparks of Ingenuity are required for all recipes that have any skill-ups for me at this point) and Expulsom from BfA really suck. Like, I just wanna max my engineering, but I can't because of these.

This is what happens when people complain about Pathfinder. Blizzard Devs have always hated flying, so they made a big FU about earning. BUT THEY HATE CRAFTED GEAR EVEN MORE, and they just want the FFF UUU to be more clear, so theres no confusion.

The Essence is basically unfarmable.
The drop mechanic is similar to how trinkets proc: there's an internal timer that resets on proc (loot in our case) and the chance of the next proc is reset to near-zero and starts increasing over time. Of course, while a trinket is designed to reach a high chance of proc in a matter of seconds or minutes, the timer for essence and legendaries takes days or weeks.

What I figured is:
- right after a reset the chance is very close to 0, making it ALMOST useless to farm for another drop
- while a drop can come from many different sources, there is a hierarchy where the most rare sources grant a greater chance (best chance comes from weekly chests, world and raid bosses, while looting dirt mounds would have a much lower chance)
- the chance to drop increases with time, so much so that you might log an alt you didn't use for a month and drop an essence at the very first mob you kill!

The only loophole I was able to exploit back during Legion - and I'm not sure if it can still work - is that the timer apparently resets only when you actually loot the item, meaning if you haven't dropped any essence for a couple weeks you can farm chests from keys at the obsidian citadel, fill up your inventory with chests and then open them all at once hoping for mutliple procs: the content of a chest is determined the moment the chest is created, but the timer supposedly resets only when you actually loot the essence from the chest. Therefore if you haven't looted an essence for a long time each chest has a decent chance of containing one, but even if it does, the drop timer won't reset until you actually open the chest and loot the essence.
Back in the day in Legion I was able to buy multiple chests on the demonic island near Dalaran and got 3 legendaries at once. I got cursed a lot from my guildmates. Again, I'm not sure if this would still work or if it has been fixed somehow.
Another way to possibly exploit this could be to NOT loot the essence from containers and corpses, so that it gets mailed later, again in the hope that the drop timer won't reset until you actually retrieve it from the mailbox.

UPDATE: I dropped a Bottled Essence from a rare and left it in the corpse. It was later delivered into my mailbox where it has remained for the last week. In the meantime I completed a variety of activities such as M+, raid bosses, community feast, Hunt, world boss and rare mobs, and purchased a couple dozens chests from Obsidian citadel, but couldn't find another Bottled Essence this week, so apparently the drop timer does reset when you get the essence in your mailbox, and leaving it there makes no difference towards dropping the next one.

I didn't notice anyone mention this but as bad as the drop rates are, as someone who still needs 8 of these just for my first craft bonuses in professions and only seen 2 since patch I totally agree. If you don't take any gear from your vault and get all 6 Aspects' Token of Merit per week (complete 3 of the 9 objectives) you can get a Bottled Essence for 12 Aspects' Token of Merit from Evantkis every other week the same rate as when we got them from the quests at the start of the expansion.

Once you've run out of the 5 allotted sparks from the campaign, it's just a drop you'll rarely see.

1. Best way to farm Bottled Essence currently is from the super rares spawning around the clock in 30 minute intervals.

This amazing weak aura (not mine, all credits to the author) will tell you the 3 soonest spawning, in how many minutes and their locations. It will also let you click the "waypoint" button to set your waypoint arrow to point to the next soonest rare.

I got a Bottled Essence on my 4th kill on my 1st character, and one on my 1st kill on my 2nd character. On my 3rd character, got it on around 21st kill. Luck varies, but I do wonder if it's more likely to drop for a character that has no sparks at all (my 1st two don't, 3rd one has a spark).

2. It can also rarely appear in world quests.

This may be entirely luck based. My friend currently has one up from Spellforged Creations on one character. No one else we know has it up at the moment. Anecdotal, but there you go.

3. 12 Vault Tokens

If you get desperate, remember how if your vault sucks you can choose 6 tokens and then buy a socket from a vendor? That same vendor (next to the great vault) also sells a Bottled Essence for double the socket cost (12 tokens).

4. Bottled Essence can drop from m+ and raids but the drop rate is really, really low.

This is the worst source.

Got one today from mythic council, one form a rare last week, ive gotten about 3-4 since the last quest so dont give up, the current best farm is rares on the 30 min timer

Best bet to get these is Raid. ALLL DIFFICULTIES, meaning....unfortunately yes...you're heading back into the dreaded LFR.

Hands-down the only way I've been able to "farm" (meaning get 1 extra on a toon I've played for months...) is by going back and just carrying normal and heroic raids for that super low chance. No other content gave me one, except a random +20 key ONCE (out of many).

This system is terrible.

In 10.1, the only source for these is Engine of Innovation, so on new alts fly to Valdrakken, do Jump-Start? Jump-Starting! (this can be done and is relatively easy experience) and then skip the Engine questline. As I posted on Spark of Ingenuity, these are still useful for transmog or skillups. Sadly they no longer drop from activities, as it's been replaced by Splintered Spark of Shadowflame dropping from the Niffen weekly, and other endgame content if you're behind on the hard cap.

This new profession system is horrible. You are to dependent of work orders or very good luck trying to finish it. The fact you cant reset your knowledge points makes it even worse. The old system was much better than this. you need to gut your alts of the mats to just finish your main. Not worth it Blizz. WOLK was better than this. go back to the old system.
