Looted from a Temporal Dragonhead fishing pool (possibly fished from other fishing pools) ~~when opened it gave 4 cooking recipes & 3 engineering schematics~~

Edit: Sometime after launch was changed to only drop 1 recipe instead of multiples. Can be fished from pools or open water

Was 47 fishing, no fishing gear equipped, no special rods.

Dropped Schematic: Bundle of Fireworks and nothing else

I fished from skill 50 till 65 at Uktulut Outpost (on Nov 8th), found 9 of them. Not sure if drop chance is higher on Beta, if I'm lucky or this is the normal rate. :)

Results:

The first one I caught in Dragonheart Outpost at 83.1, 31.4 contained Technique: Illusion Parchment: Love Charm.

Yeah so I don't know if I'm just incredibly unlucky or if I'm doing somethign wrong, but I have Fishing maxed out for a long time now, I'm fishing everywhere (both in pools and in regular water, in sweet and salt water, in all 4 different zones) and I have yet to get a single one. What am I doing wrong?

Caught in a Cerulean Spinefish Pool, Legion Angler, in a River Mouth Fishing Hole at 75% "Rich" remaining. (dailies completed). Took about 20 minutes got two bottles.

Saw my first Fishing hole today in the waking shores and started fishing there. Got 4 of these in the time I leveled up fishing from 45 to 70.

Just started fishing for this, sarting at fishing level 1 with a Jeweled Fishing Pole and wearing the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat. Got a Bottle on third attempt from an Aileron Seamouth pool near Uktulut Pier. However, it only contained 1 recipe (Recipe: Fillet of Fangs). I'm wondering if the chance of more recipes depends on fishing skill level? Will edit with more info later.

Update: I've got to 100 fishing now (plus many casts after) and have been fishing in pools and in open water all round Ohn'ahran Plains and not had another Bottle yet. If I hadn't seen one myself I'd be questioning their existence by now, lol. Off to try my luck back in Wakings Shores.
Update 2: Just exchanged a Silver Coin with the Great Swog and got a Recipe Bottle from the Weighted Sac of Swog Treasures. Had one recipe in it, for the Grease Grenade. Not great, as I'm after the cooking rec's. Good grief, back to fishing then... :/

I have been fishing the pools at the River Mouth Fishing Hole for 3 hours now, not a single bottle dropped for me.
I feel so bad now :(

I think at Beta it contained multiple recipes but since release only 1 recipe will drop

EDIT: Just got one, with 100 fishing and only 1 recipe in it.

EDIT2: Just got another one 15 minutes later, same spot
contained: Technique: WIndborne Velocidrake: Spined Head

EDIT3: At the Ohn'nahran plains u can swap the coins for loot at the Great Swog, i can get bottles there as well.

Spent 2 hours in Val next to the fishing trainer, never saw a bottle.

Spent 8+ hours now at the fishing hole at rich rates, never seen a bottle or a conch.

All of this with 110 fishing with +58 perception as well.

Edit: after about 9 hours of being dry in the fishing hole, finally got one.

Update for 10.2

So I skipped 10.1, and am back for 10.2. Here's my current observations:

Even with maxed fishing, R5 Fisherfriend, hat, and lure, I am getting a TON of grays in any open water fishing situation, anywhere. I can't recommend fishing outside of a pool at this point.
Coins and bottles are dropping almost never from open water fishing.
Coins and bottles have a very slightly higher chance to drop from pools, but it's still bad. (Except for Ice Fishing at a Fishing Hole, see below.)

So, where to get coins? Right now my best results have been from:

Ice Fishing in Deep Ice Fishing Pools. You must be at the Ice Fishing Hole for these to be possible; they're 5-20% chance to form in place of a normal Ice Fishing Pool depending on the Fishing Hole's capacity. These are vastly superior to other pools because any number of people can fish on one for the time limit, and, if the Fishing Hole is at Rich they'll last 10m. A Deep Fishing Hole gives you a good chance for an extra fish or an item, per cast. The item will often be a Tuskar fishing piece, so if you've been struggling on those, this is where to get them, hands down. Copper coins are also pretty common. No conches for me, despite the Rich description claiming I should get some. ? Not sure what that's about. Perception does proc.
Tackleboxes. Tackleboxes DO proc perception, though after hundreds of them I think I can safely safe it doesn't use your Fisherfriend, just any other perception bonus you might have (eg. a flask). Probably not worth flasking. I discovered a very good number of coins this way in a much shorter time span than I would have fishing a similar amount of time, largely because you're not restricted from doing anything else while hunting for boxes. You also get tons of fish and grays for trash gold. Overall, 100x better than fishing itself.

I extend my endless sympathies to anyone still struggling to get Otto or the Fisherfriend Recipe. :/ Since the lunker nerf it's been rough. I do hope Blizz considers some of these things for next expac, because while I like a lot of these innovations, the grind around gold coins and the fishing gear upgrades is absurd.

As always, my evidence is anecdotal and some of you may have worse or better luck. Fish on.

Spent about 6 hours at River Mouth Fishing Hole over the last two days. Fishing only in pools, making sure to restock to 'Rich' (+125% bonus) levels any time it dropped too far. Level 70 character, Iskaar Renown 5, Fishing skill 106, Perception 73.

Results:

- 1 Gold Coin of the Isles
- ~20 Copper coin of the Isles (4 duplicated from Perception)
- 3 Silver coin of the Isles (1 duplicated from Perception)
- 6 Draconic Recipe in a Bottle (1 duplicated from Perception)
- 2 Soggy Clump of Darkmoon Cards

The Immaculate Sac and 3 Weighted Sacs resulted in 4 additional Recipe in a Bottle. No bottles from any of the Regurgitated Sac of Treasures.

Each Bottle only ever had 1 recipe in it.

My dataset isn't big enough to suggest any given pool was more likely to drop these than another. I fished ALL pools available, as anything I didn't want to keep went to restocking the fishing hole to keep it topped off.

Given the sheer number of recipes possible in this bottle and the fact that duplicates can result, this will be a LONG haul to getting them for any specific profession.

Edit #1:
A quick update on this a couple weeks later. After more experimentation, either Blizzard adjusted the droprates, or the RNG is really just THAT wild. Open water fishing by my numbers is about the same, with a main difference: when fishing in open water, you tend to get gray secondaries if your perception didn't proc. You will NOT see these in a pool--you get the pool fish plus your rare item(s), or just the pool fish. So, really what open water fishing is showing you is how often you get the extra drops (via the grays).

IMO, the real way to farm these things is Iskaar Renown 7 and a lunker raid. The sheer rate of kills means you'll get a fair number of copper coins to trade up with, AND the threshers can drop recipes in a bottle. A couple of hours in one last night got me 3 Recipe in a Bottle and enough Copper Coins (75) for one Immaculate bag. Much, much more consistent than fishing itself.

Edit #2:
They nerfed the drops from lunkers. :( Not to nothing, but I saw far fewer bottles in general in the space of an hour, about 1/2 to 1/3 as many coins. I did see more Silver and Gold coins, at least, where-as I almost never saw those previously. So at this point, lunker raid is probably close to plain fishing in terms of drop chance. Overall it remains utterly painful and I have sympathy for anyone still trying to get their goggles for Otto. Long haul at this point, I hope Blizz reconsiders.

Drop chances without perception are really low.
I highly recommend unlocking the Fishing Holes (Iskaar Tuskarr Renown 4) and fish in the fishing hole zone with the 'Rich' (125%) bonus.
Also, get yourself Draconium Fisherfriend or Khaz'gorite Fisherfriend from the auction house, perception increases the chance of getting rare loot drops.
If you want to increase your chances further a cheap way is to get Aquadynamic Fish Attractor from the fishing trainer.

If you fish Copper Coin of the Isles, Silver Coin of the Isles or Gold Coin of the Isles :
- They can be used as a currency for exchange at The Great Swog.
- Copper Coin of the Islescan be turned into Silver Coin of the Isles with an exchange rate of 15:1.
- The chance of Draconic Recipe in a Bottle seems reasonably high in Weighted Sac of Swog Treasures / Immaculate Sac of Swog Treasures (Silver Coin of the Isles / Gold Coin of the Isles loot box).

Note: Draconic Recipe in a Bottle only contains one recipe.

I've been fishing for about an hour at the River Mouth Fishing Hole, and 2 have dropped for me; one when I had about 40 fishing and the other at 72 skill in fishing. I have the Underlight Angler equipped.
I got Technique: Highland Drake: Spined Neck from the first, and Schematic: Bundle of Fireworks from the second

Of all the recipes I have pulled out of the bottle, Technique: Renewed Proto-Drake: Predator Pattern doesn't seem to be tradeable at all which feels a little like an oversight or bug.

Besides that, all other recipes I have pulled out of the bottles seem to be tradeable.

Edit: With a recent hotfix, this was fixed and the recipe is now tradeable.

Drop rate for these is terrible, Its 2 x RNG ( Chance to get the bottle, then getting the actual recipe you need), if you are looking to level your cooking skill then you pretty much screwed.

If you are fishing in the River Mouth Fishing Hole, if its fully stocked, it says you have a 110% chance to find rare fish / Ominous Conches which makes no sense its no where near that.

Edit: so far I've gotten 2, and each time I got the Technique: Windborne Velocidrake: Winswept Pattern, kinda of annoying if you are trying for the cooking recipes :(

I see alot of comments from people getting these while leveling up fishing wich is very strange i have gotten 1 so far at skill level 60 with no poles or fishing equipment however after that at skill level 106 and perception over 100 ( draconium fisherfriend and flask) i havent gotten $%^& only a few coins from the pools at the fishing holes. As usual blizzard is completly unable to find a good middleground and have to go to extremes like this

I was awarded this from the Darkmoon Faire profession quest Spoilin' for Salty Sea Dogs along with my 3 Dragon Island Fishing skill points, DMF Game Token and 3 Darkmoon Prize Tickets.

I was salty about losing the extra two skill up points, but will take it if one of these is regularly awarded for completion. Unfortunately, mine contained a Blacksmithing pattern that is available from the trainer (Plans: Serevite Skeleton Key)

After 3.5 hours this morning with only 1 bottle fished up... Took a break and came back and within seven minutes got 2 bottles. Fishing skill 129, perception 109...hole was rich (with no else near fishing and I am by the trainers) and I am NOT fishing in pools.

Not sure but after the reset this week, the drop rate for these seems non-existent. Spent well over 2 hours fishing in various locations, fishing from schools, at the Walking shore and other locations and not one bottle has dropped.

Quite annoying to be honest given I want to level cooking and only way to do that is through recipes, some are behind renown and others are in these stupid bottles :(#

Edit: I've not seen a single drop since the weekly reset and have fished over several hours now :|

So i'm at the fishing hole, keeping it in the green or mid orange, have the blue fishing pole, using the "this requires 100 classic fishing" bait, the blue fishing hat AND throwing back the small orange fish every 3rd cast. I'm getting a max of 135 fishing each cast. I fished for 2 hours and got 1 bottle... and it contained a tailoring blueprint... that sold for 2k... so this is fun

as people increase their renown with the tuskarr and gain access to the harpoon at level 7, lunker farming groups are becoming more popular. these Draconic Recipe in a Bottle can drop from the mobs summoned in these farm groups. in my opinion, this is the new best way to farm for the bottles and recipes. here is a helpful macro that will allow you to spam one button and not interrupt your lunker sensing channel, which triggers automatically when you loot an ominous conch.

Alright, I can finally contribute. I just got my first Draconic Recipe in a Bottle. I have been fishing for about 9 or 10 hours over the course of 3 days. I have rank 5 Khaz'gorite Fisherfriend for 110 perception and 15 skill + Fishing hat for +6 skill, flask for +30 perception and was at the Tuskarr fishing hole when it was moderate, 0% fish. I was not fishing in a pool, just open water.

I was fishing in open water at Iskaara, filling up my barrel for Otto, and I caught one of these.
You do not need pools to get them!
I have no idea what the catch rate compared to in pools might be.

So far i've gotten 3 out of magma pools, and 1 in open water.

For those wondering, you can have multiple Draconic Recipe in a Bottle in your packs at the same time.

You don't need to consume them and turn them into patterns in order for more to show up via fishing. Though it's worth noting that they don't stack, so you don't gain any benefit by not consuming them vs consuming them (other than the joy of opening multiples at once).

Just got my first ever bottle from an ice fishing hole, first cast into the hole. Fishing 88, but +20 fishing skill (+6 from the fishing rod, +10 from a Heat Treated Spinning Lure, and a further +4 from wearing Wildercloth Fishing Cap). Perception +79 from Draconium Fisherfriend fishing rod, and the rod is also enchanted for a further +32 perception.

Before coming to the ice holes I'd been fishing for about an hour at fishing holes (River Mouth fishing hole and the one in Thaldrazus), both at Rich rating. Was fishing in both fish pools and 'normal'/no pool water. No bottles during that time, and almost nothing else 'special' either (a few clams, couple of conches, and a couple of bronze coins).

On my way to Azure Span, I went via AH to see if I could improve my Perception. Bought the +perception enchant for the fishing rod, the +fishing cap, and a few lures. AH had none of the +perception phials and I've no alts/guildies that can provide them at this moment, so I'm missing those for now.

Went on to Azure Span; got bottle at ice hole. Bottle contained Recipe: Fillet of Fangs.

Edit: I suspect it was just luck that I got it on the first cast in the ice hole, and probably also just random chance that it happened in an ice hole instead of anywhere else. One bottle is not enough of a data point. But I do wonder if my buying the extra fishing kit (enchant, hat, lures) before going to the ice holes helped.

My level 36 Monk just received this item after turning in the Spoilin' for Salty Sea Dogs quest at the Faire. Her highest expansion level learned for fishing is Legion.

Did fishing break with 10.1? I have fishing skill 115 and Perception 164 (with flask) but about 2/3 of the items I fish in open water at the Tuskarr 125% spots are grey items! I haven't fished much this expansion, but shouldn't I at least get normal fish or common fish like Scale Mackerel with every cast at max+ skill? Something seems off.

The easiest way to get bottles, is to farm Sir Pinchalot

Buy Elusive Croaking Crab from the AH (about 50g a piece on my shard right now), go to his summon spot, and farm away. Respawn timer is 5-10 minutes, and with rarescanner you will get a notification when it does. By being the summoner, you get bonus loot.

In 100 kills, I have received from bonus loot:
Copper Coin of the Isles x 1 -> 62
Copper Coin of the Isles x 2 -> 18
Silver Coin of the Isles x 1 -> 8
Gold coin of the Isles x 1 -> 1
Draconic Recipe in a Bottle -> x 9
Soggy Clump of Darkmoon Cards -> x2

So after 100 kills, was able to buy / open 23 bottles. Way less time intensive than fishing.

You could even boost it by fishing in between spawns, but I would just do something else.

Seems to be a 100% drop chance when fishing out of a trash pool or treasure pool in the Zaralek Cavern with 100 fishing.
The pools are rare though so you might only ever see them if on a dead server.
I have manage to find 8 of them while herb/mining and each one gave me a Recipe in a bottle.

I got one of these from completing the fishing quest Spoilin' for Salty Sea Dogs at the Darkmoon Faire on a level 60 alt. I do this quest on several alts every month and I don't think I have received one before, so it may be a very rare occurrence. I just got one of these while doing the fishing quest from Darkmoon Faire, now during the TWW expansion. This isn't even my main where I have all my professions max'd out, this alt has several fishing skills missing and the ones I have are still incomplete, yet the bottle still dropped for me. Another thing, this was the 1st time the bottle ever dropped for me in this account.

EDIT: i actually fishied up a Rusted Coin of the Isles right as i posted this, and got 1 additional from perception. Long ways to go still...
