So ive gotten a few of this item, and i've been running around stormsong valley for an hour straight and haven't found a single truffle. Do they show up on the mini map? or how does this item work?

To get to the chest with the Pig Nose you can go to the top area where all the thorn branches are and walk around the edge of the pit until you can look in the direction of the chest location.
You'll see a purple torch. You can use a glider to glide into the cave.

To unlock this item at vendor, you have to get it first from Carved Wooden Chest. You'll need more of them to complete Every Day I'm Truffling. It's possible to buy another at Sanya Wraithschilde for 25 Briarback Quills.

Loot Pig Nose from Carved Wooden Chest in Briarback Kraul.
After that you'll be able to buy it for 25 Briarback Quills in Brennadam or Warfang Hold
Pig Nose gives you a buff for 15 minutes that allows you to see truffles in Stormsong Valley under the trees in the bushes.
They are very tiny and easy to miss, they don't appear on the minimap and are not highlighted.
If the area under the trees is heavily shadowed by plants you have to wiggle your mouse around to be sure there is no truffle there.
First person view also helps.
There are 4 types of truffles: Magic Truffle, Violet Truffle, Valley Truffle, Turbo Truffle
They're part of Every Day I'm Truffling achievement.

Definitely not a Zelda reference, no idea where that thought came from - the mask of scents has no likeness, but as it is in a carved wooden chest and the nose itself is carved from wood; this would actually be a Usagi Yojimbo reference.

During Usagi’s fight with Zato-Ino the blind pig, Usagi realizes his opponent’s one weakness would be losing his nose. He cuts off Zato’s nose and makes him unable to track him. Zato ends up getting an identical wooden nose as a replacement, and it lets him smell almost as well as he used to.

Okay, so for everyone pointing to different pieces of pop culture they think this is a reference to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truffle_hog This is not a reference to Majora's Mask or anything else other than the actual real life practice of using pigs to sniff for wild truffles. This is a thing that's been going on for hundreds of years. All the things you're thinking of are references to real life.

To get to the Carved Wooden Chest, you have to go to the Briarback Kraul. Go up the slope to the south of "Goldfeld's Farm" and keep right. At the Briarback Kraul keep left until you reach the "Thornheart" and then jump into the hole onto a rock ledge. Then go into the cave in the rock and at the end of the tunnel you'll find the chest in which there is an Pig Nose with which you can tackle the achievement Every Day I'm Truffling. :-)

The buff the piggy nose gives lasts 15 minutes, and does not persist through death.

In other words, I highly recommend warmode off when you're going truffle hunting!

I can confirm, as of 28th September 2018, this item can be used anywhere. You do not have to be in Stormsong Valley to use it.

After spending WAY too long not finding truffles and cursing my luck, I realized that my pig snout buff had run out some time ago... So, I made a WeakAura that pops up when the buff fades. It pops up mid screen, very large and bright, to alert you. It will only appear if you're in Stormsong and not in combat, and you don't have the Pig Snout buff.

Pig noses must be purchased with Briarback Quills and are critical to getting two achievements in Stormsong Valley. Both achievements are easy to get, as long as players are willing to be patient and hold a few items in their bags. Briarback Quills drop from a variety of Briarback mobs, and just through simple questing & WQ's you can obtain quite a few of them.

As soon as you have a stack of 25 quills, use them to buy a Pig Nose from Hobbs. Don't save the quills up for a bunch of pig noses if you can help it, because it is much easier to do this achievement in increments to avoid fatigue. The pig nose lasts 15 minutes, and that seems like a pretty good amount of time to search without losing your mind.

The pig noses will allow you to see special truffles in Stormsong Valley. Having all of the buffs from the truffles active at once will give you the achievement Every Day I'm Truffling. Don't bother with waypoints or mapping or anything like that. I tried that and it was a gigantic waste of time because there are just too many truffle spawn points to even keep an organized route. They seem to spawn under all the trees, so just look under every clump of trees you see, make sure to zoom in your camera and wiggle your mouse back and forth to make sure you haven't missed one. They are very small, and you can't target the truffles, but a tooltip will appear if you hover over one. (Note: it is extremely helpful to temporarily turn your graphics down so that the ground clutter is at a minimum.)

Grab every truffle you see, even ones you don't need, because they will cause a respawn. As far as I could tell, the name of the truffle had nothing to do with where they spawned, they all seem to be able to spawn anywhere in the zone.

The Turbo Truffle looks like a brownish-yellow mushroom with a green fringe. They don't give loot, only a buff. These are the last ones you need to worry about, but again, just make sure that you are consistently looting all of them so that the ones you need will spawn.

The Magic Truffle is the easiest to find, it looks like a blue clump of mushrooms. You can sell them for 10g a piece to a vendor, try to sell them on the AH, or use them for the actual buff. Keep at least one in your bags at all times though so that you are able to quickly get the achievement when you finally collect all the other truffles.

The Violet Truffle looks like something from the void, purplish-black and comes to a sharp point on the cap. These are very rare. Do not be surprised if you go through more than one Pig Nose without finding any. If you have the money to spare, I would suggest searching for these on the AH. Otherwise, continue searching for them each time you have enough quills to buy a pig nose.

The Valley Truffle looks like a small white crystal. These are also very rare, and it should come as no surprise if you don't find any of them on one of your hunts. If you have money to spare, I would also suggest searching for these on the AH. Otherwise, continue to search the usual way.

Keep at least one of each mushroom in your bags until you have all three of the lootable ones! When you have collected all three lootable mushrooms (Magic Truffle, Violet Truffle, Valley Truffle), use one last Pig Nose to go searching for the Turbo Truffle buff. As soon as you find one and get the buff, eat one of each mushroom type from within your bags. This will instantly give you the achievement Every Day I'm Truffling.

BONUS ACHIEVEMENT:
At some point while searching for the other truffles, it is almost a guarantee that you will find and loot the Sporonite Bomb, which looks like a gray mushroom with a wide, flat cap. I found multiple of these while searching for the others. They are able to be sold on the AH, so if you don't feel like searching (or you have extra to sell) the AH is always a good alternative.

To get the Clever Use of Mechanical Explosives achievement, head to 51.8, 79.6 and engage The Lichen King. MAKE SURE to ENGAGE him in combat before throwing the Sporonite Bomb. You will automatically receive the achievement, even if you die without actually killing the mob.

A little patience goes a LONG way in accomplishing these two achievements. If you try to grind it all out at once, you will probably lose your mind. This isn't one of those things that you just knock out really quick some night when you are bored, unless you feel like getting burnt out and/or threatening to throw your computer through a window. Just do it a little at a time and eventually you will get both of these achievements and it will feel like a breeze.

Didn't see it mentioned yet, so just wanted to add that the Pig Snout can be active at the same time as the Beeholder's Goggles. So you can look for both truffles and jelly deposits at the same time!

If you want to use your Pigs nose to do the achievement Every Day I'm Truffling achievement here are some tips for you.

First off follow Varenne's guide here.

All spawn points for the truffles can spawn all 4 types of truffles so collect every truffle you come across so that the more rare ones have a chance to spawn in their locations.

To make the truffles easier to spot set the graphic settings to low.

Make sure the buff for the Pigs nose is up at all time.

Some say that the truffles needs to be picked at night time but I have not confirmed this and it is so easy to farm Briarback Quills in Briarback Kraul (Stormsong Valley) so if it is daytime I would just try it out and see what happens.

Truffles are under trees so you can just search everywhere in Stormsong Valley if you want to or you can use these Waypoints that needs the addon TomTom and an addon to import the list for example CopyPasta2 or Paste. I have used previous lists of Waypoints and added new ones that I found in my own search for truffles.

Did this achievement today 1-2-2026.

After spending over an hour looking for mushrooms I went back and turned on warmode. Found the Turbo Truffle I was missing within a few minutes. 100% go Warmode for this achieve.
