You will be able to buy this item from your Garrison quartermaster for (5x Restored Artifact).

Easy Way to Get Restored Artifact

Buy Mote of Harmony or Spirit of Harmony from the Auction House.
(Or you can go to Pandaria and farm them yourself if you want. You gotta go there anyways.)
Once you have as many Spirit of Harmony as you need, head to your factions shrine in Pandaria.
Visit the Spirit of Harmony vendor in your faction shrine (Horde: Danky / Alliance: Krystel)
Purchase 1x Restored Artifact for 3x Spirit of Harmony in unlimited quantity, until you have all you need.
Profit!

I bought one of these on the PTR for 5 Restored Artifact, and a toast popped up that I received a new Rare mission at my garrison, Fickle Loyalty in fact, which seemed useful since I was alliance and couldn't complete Frostfire through questing, but hadn't actually bought any maps regardless.

This is a list of all the exploration missions

Error: "You're not eligible for any new missions"

It seems you are ineligible to receive the exploration missions that reward maps you have previously learned, including before 6.1. I've only test this with the Explorer's notebook, saving up enough to unlock all missions, but I was unable to unlock the two for zones I'd previously learned the treasure map. This makes it impossible to earn the achievement as you cannot complete the missions.

Explorer's Notebook: i have been to both places that supposedly sell this. on horde . on realm Tichondrius character :Erebusashlar. horde. and i can make screenshots the item is no where to be found. on the live version is mine just bugged?.

As alliance, I just used 5 Explorer's Notebook one after another. The first one gave me the Frostfire mission, the other 4 did not give me any mission at all, but the item was consumed. I guess it is a bug.

Edit: apparently you cannot have more than one exploration mission available at the same time. I completed the Frostfire mission and then I used 2 more notebooks. I only got a mission for the first one. So I started the mission and then used another notebook. This time I got a new mission leaving me with one mission in progress and one available.

I did the same mistake. I used them all and only got 1 follower quest. So i submitted a ticket and they answered me 2 minutes later and i got them back in the mail.

Apparently you cannot use 20 notebooks at the same time anymore BUT you can send them to mission one at a time and have multiple "Active Missions" of exploration sort at the same time.

When attempting, have all your followers free. Plus you need 25 of them - from the level 3 Barracks. Buy your notebooks (farm crazily or use spirits to buy crates). Use one notebook, send a follower to the new mission. Use another. Send another follower to the new mission. As you cannot get a mission that is already active, this works more or less the same.

Before starting using your 18 notebooks, tabulate all the missions on paper/excel/etc, arrange who can counter what, I managed to do all of them at once. Do not forget that once you obtain and use a treasure map, that mission won't come again, therefore you don't need to be able to do all 18 of them at once, but only 13 (This will block ALL your missions for a day though, be prepared).

First, collect back all your profession followers from your buildings, including your bodyguard and Nat Pagle (if applicable). You may need them all. Don't start using your notebooks before planning, in case you need a few days to activate/deactivate followers in order to counter everything perfectly, but with mostly purples with 2 abilities, it isn't as hard as it sounds, especially if you can wait out for all the treasure map ones to finish and return (and their followers return back to the follower pool) - even better if you have the Mage Tower / Spirit Lodge and insta-finish the ones to get rid of with the scrolls it gives.

I've currently managed to send all my 25 followers to 14 missions (13 digsite + 1 map exploration), finishing other treasure map ones along the way, took me a bit less than one day, and I uploaded my screenshot of active missions to show how I did it in case it helps - should be up once it is approved.

They really do need to change the wording on the tooltip:( I just wasted an exploration notebook:( I spent 4 hours the other day on archaeology to get a bunch of crates to trade for notebooks. Using up 5 and having them wasted because the tooltip (or anything else) doesn't warn you that you won't receive new missions is depressing:( The tooltip needs updated or the item needs to "error" when you try to use it when it won't do anything for you. Something like "you can not use that item right now".

Wait, so does using this item permanently grant you the chance to see an archaeology based follower mission on your mission board, or does it grant you one mission per use without being able to see that mission again afterwards?

Fixed, if a character can't get missions of this type at the moment, there will be an error message and item will not be used. Proof can be found here (update from 21.04.2015).

The vendor Krystel in Pandaria no longer offers the Restored Artifact for Spirits of Harmony. :(

Maybe I'm missing something here, but is it worth it to spend five crated artifacts for this? If I'm missing something totally obvious, please tell me.

If you're crating Pandarian artifacts, they're about 40-50 fragments for each crated artifact (not counting the rares). Same for Draenor.

That's 200-250 fragments to get 5 crated artifacts to spend on a mission that will give you less than half the fragments (even with the keystones, it doesn't seem worth it to me).

There is a Achievement for doing them all (Exploration Mission Master). The achievement page provides easy links to each of the missions, although you won't need to bother, as the missions from Explorer's Notebook are random and essentially the same.

Each mission from the Explorer's Notebook simply provides more WoD artifact fragments (based on location, etc.) Each mission still costs 15 Garrison Resources, despite being purchased with 5 Restored Artifact for some reason.

Recommended if you have completed all previous archeology before WoD and have not completed WoD, or still want to gain WoD fragments. Though most of us no doubt have not gotten EV-ER-Y-THING from previous expansion digging.

As per usual, the posts here are stellar. Thank you all for your help.

I have not purchased any notebooks since I am all about getting the oh so elusive Tol'Vir mount. Even so, I have completed all but five of the exploration missions.

How did this happen? Did they show up on my mission dailies and I didn't notice them? If so, will I get more, or should I just buy notebooks.

Also, and most important, several people have said that if you've used your treasure maps you can't get notebooks for missions in the map areas used. Can someone clarify this? It seems a bit harsh to disallow the completion of this cheeve because the map was unwittingly used prior to the exploration quest being completed.

You can get either Exploration Missions (for the achievement) or Treasure Map Missions (for maps ofc).
Treasure Map Missions:
Fickle Loyalty A disgruntled Bladespire Chef has provided us with a lead on an ancient map hidden in the mines beneath the citadel.

Highplains Robbery A Warsong elder carrying historical documents important to the clan is communing at the Elemental Plateau. Relieve her of her burdens.

Tomb Raider Ancient carvings in the tombs of the Fortress of Anguish may lead us to discover many secrets in Shadowmoon Valley. We'll have to fight our way in.

Bird Watching Rumors are swirling that a raid on an Outcast hovel has yielded a particularly interesting map. Intercept the arakkoa before they return to Skyreach!

If you are not looking to complete the achievement and not looking to get all the pristine archaeology projects to display in your garrison and not looking to complete each and every unique archeology project in warlords of draenor, then this is more or less useless.

It's function is to cycle archaeology projects. Spend 5 restored Artifacts to get enough fragments to get probably less than 1 project worth of archaeology fragments (Even if it's a pristine one, you still wont break even.) Basically a worse and more cumbersome deal than just buying archaeology fragments directly from the vendor.

If this was cancer before, I don't even know what to say now. Not only is it still RNG, so you can get missions you've already done - you can get OTHER missions, like useless "Bird Watching" mission that awards a treasure map == not part of the achievement.

Add to that, you can't buy the restored artifacts for spirits of harmony anymore, making them much more rare.

Basically to get the achievement you need 13 missions, but you can get any of 20+ missions, including getting the same one twice. A restored artifact is a completed archaeology = about 4-5 dig sites.

That's 25 digsites for 1 of these, for a random mission. I cba doing the math, but if you're really unlucky, this achievement can require you do complete 1000+ digsites if RNG &*!@s with you, with a minimal of 325 digsites if you get insanely lucky and hit RNG right each time.

TL;DR = This achievement is bull^&*!.

You can no longer obtain Restored Artifacts with Spirit of Harmony. You HAVE to spend the time digging with archaeology to get the artifacts. Once you have completed a dig, go to your Archaeology tab and click the solve button for each of those that you have enough fragments to complete. When an object has been "solved" it will put it in your bag to create a restored artifact. When you right click this you will be awarded with one Restored Artifact. When you get the quest to put the item on display you are awarded three artifacts.

You still buy the notebook using 5 artifacts per notebook, and when you consume the notebook you are NOT guaranteed to in turn get a mission at your table for this achievement, no matter how many notebooks you use in a row.

I hope that helps someone - I had a heck of a time figuring this out based on the older comments in this thread. Good luck and happy digging!
