Common drop off any 50-58 spider, as the level of the spider decreases so does the chances of the Silk dropping. It's used in tailoring to craft the "Shadoweave" pieces of gear.

Despite this being useful for Leatherworkers it is rejected by Leatherworking Bags, unlike Spider's Silk and Thick Spider's Silk, which serve a similar purpose.

Best place to farm this would be in Deadwind Pass. The spiders hanging over the roads drop far more of these than any of the other spiders I have killed so far.
The spiders in the Western Plaguelands did not drop any, so the list over drop rates might be wrong.

For almost instant respanws of spiders that can drop this, go to the northern 'The Vice' area of Deadwind Pass.

Spiders are fighting the ogres their, kill all the ogres (they have a 10 min respawn timer) and cycle around killing the spiders.

They seem to only respawn when you are about 30 yards away.

these dropped "good" when i farmed Large Fang in Razorfen Downs.
you simply go in, take the left trail (not the one with the friendly dragon)
and kill everything til you've cleared the room with the gong.
use the gong to summon the spider boss Aarux - kill - and run out of the dungeon again.
reset, repeat.

it yields around 1-2 Large Fang and Shadow Silk per iteration, from my experience.
however i didn't farm for very long; these numbers might differ for you.

Was able to farm the 14 I needed for a few pieces of the Shadoweave armor for transmog in about 15 minutes off of Greater Lava Spiders up and down the western edge of Searing Gorge.

After trying Deadwind Pass for a bit, I found SG much easier and the respawn of the Greater Lava Spiders in SG is very quick.

It's still a low drop rate but to me, SG paid out the best.

Lower Blackrock Spire is a great spot for this silk. Spire Spiderlings located at Mother Smolderweb drop it and in decent amount. I've averaged around 3 to 4 silk per clear and once it was even 6. It takes at maximum 2 minutes of travel by foot without any speed buffs from entrance to Mother Smolderweb, if you take the scenic (normal) route.

You can shorten the time by jumping down from the first platform from which you can see the ogres when you enter LBRS. Then just pass the Firebrand orcs and continue to the spiders. Total time is like 30 seconds.

Probably one of the fastest method of farming Shadow Silk I found is doing LBRS with very good movement characters (Shaman or DH, not sure about others). There is a video of my speed run: https://youtu.be/ODwhZDTLTfk

Extra tip for anyone farming this to make the runs even faster is to use proving grounds so you can tp out of the dungeon reset instances and tp back in.

Quickest way I have found to farm these, is LBRS: Lower Blackrock Spire.

If you have a decently leveled mage alt, that is the alt your wanting to use.
(Though anything with an ability to avoid fall damage works well too. I just prefer having Blink for faster run times.)

Once inside the instance, a quick left, left, and right, gets you to the main room. This place is huge, but we are only wanting to get to the Spiders that drop Shadow Silk.

Directly to your right, you can look down and see a lava river and some huts at the very bottom. Using Slow Fall gets you down here both safely and quickly. By passing all these grunt orc mobs you'll see a shadow-y corner with Spire Spiders inside it. These you'll want to kill for the Shadow Silk.

Now you are probably thinking...Ugh. I'm all the way down here. I really don't want to have to walk all the way back up just to reset to get more, right? Easy enough. Following up the path you'll see some Spirestone Warlords and Battle mages, sticking to your right you'll come to a ledge that drops back down to where the grunts were before, where you had used Slow Fall to reach. This time, instead, just drop down and lower your health. As a 110 mage, this dropped my health to about 5%. Take a quick dip into the lava, and you'll die fairly fast. (If you want to avoid repair bills, feel free to use the equipment manager and go naked. Though, this is purely your choice.)

On release, boom, your back at the entrance of the dungeon. Exit, Reset all instances, head back inside, and repeat for more Shadow Silk.

Deadwind windows no longer drop this, or the drop chance has been nerfed into the middle of the Earth. I have killed over 100 and not a single one dropped Shadow Silk. However I have about 40 Ironweb Spider Silk.

For farming at level, the best place I've found is Searing Gorge. Just make a long circuit around the gorge (never in it), pulling every lava and glass spider you see. I average about 5 Shadow Silk per circle around the zone.

Killed 170 spiders in dustwallow mash and only got 15 thick spider-s silk and 11 shadow silk

If still farming Shadow Silk, I did one lap around Searing Gorge killing every Spider I could find (obviously not the critters) and snagged 7 Shadow Silk in total for 73 kills.

September 2020, I did one lap of Searing Gorge: killed 26 Searing Lava Spiders for 4 Shadow Silk; 23 Glassweb Spiders for 0 Shadow Silk, and 9 more Searing Lava Spiders (back at the start of my circuit) for 0 Shadow Silk.
