There are two caves to the North East of the Isle of Dorn, on an island called The Three Shields where there seem to be a good spawn rate of these.

Based on the Herbalism quest text from "Light and Shadow" - I believe Orbinid is limited to spawning in caves - as the "light" part of the quest seems to be the Arathor's Spear herbs that all spawn on the surface.

Try checking caves. You can fly over a cave and see what's inside thankfully. I found my Orbinid spawns in a mushroom cave southwest of Freywold Village (Isle of Dorn). This was after an hour of scouring the surface.

Found mine inside that previously mentioned cave entrance at 33.56 80.05, south east of Freywold Villiage (thanks, auramau). The comments about being only in caves seem to be correct although I found none at Three Shields until I first gathered the ones at the coordinates above. After that, going back to Three Shields and camping at the top of the peak was a good spot to wait for Orbinid to spawn in the two caves there (which may have also worked in the first place).

It's also helpful to use a Phial of Truesight as there's lots of camouflaged Arathor's Spear out there with no high-level mobs to deal with, and might also help with Luredrops.

Orbinid, if the assumption that it spawns in the dark is true, is best farmed in The Ringing Depths considering it is underground. Oh and yeah I have just farmed heaps of it here.
