I'm thinking of coming back to wow, but purely for gold making and collecting mounts etc. I no longer wish to raid or such as my time commitments don't allow it (and I'm not interested in it). I have fond memories of making gold via different avenues in the past. Is this still possible? I mostly see people doing transmog farms or saying "just do gathering professions!". Also I hear the changes mean that old world profession stuff is pointless so can you only make gold with current world items? Would be a dampener for me to be honest. I like making all kinds of things.

I think , it's pretty easy right now to gear up a max level toon to farm anything with casual play. Old world professions aren't pointless by any means, however, some items like mist-piercing goggles that used to sell for quite a bit are now very cheap as crafting it is the easiest way to level leaving a surplus. There was a change to posting on the AH that makes flipping old world mats more expensive, but I still make large amounts with almost every old world profession. I make 95% or more of my income from old world stuff as I got frustrated with frequent BFA crafting changes. Also, the raid starts again on the 6th I believe so many players who raid will be returning.

On medium or higher almost everything seems to sell as long as it can be trasmogged and there's very few things I don't craft. On lower pop servers I only craft to post if the price is very high or if there isn't competition. I don't play on any RP servers so my experience is just based on a few normal servers. On smaller servers I tend to try to focus on fast selling things like enchants, glyphs, shirts, and armor kits and large profit items like the mounts. I also check the AH daily to buy mats at 50% off or more to ensure I'm not losing gold on crafts if someone tanks the market.

World Quests: As I mentioned earlier, 'playing the game' can be a steady source of income. If you're not doing anything else as a 'gold-maker' this is a good starting point!

Island Expeditions: Lots of pets, toys and transmog to be collected and sold in your regular play through Island Expeditions. You can focus on them with a level 111 twink as we discussed in last week's blog.

Pet Farming: Players are lazy, you can sell pets from various locations such as vendors, dungeons, raids and pet activities to those that don't want to spend time themselves.

Missions: Despite being buffed every-so-slightly the table missions aren't massively lucrative but still no reason to be skipped, especially if you're looking for initial starting capital.

Old-World materials: Hazel talks about Minerai d'ectofer which I have a particular affinity to, if any of you watch my stream. It's a versatile item that can be converted in to a lot of things. It can even be grown on your Pandaria farm! Other materials to consider are the herbs for the flasks that go in to the Fiole des sables.

AH Flipping: "Buy Low, Sell High", this is a huge category and can be massively profitable. You'll likely need to use addons like TSM or AuctionFaster to scale this kind of strategy.

BFA Herb Farming: In the lead up to the raid release in 8.1 herbs may well become more desirable!

So this is the first expansion where i am putting effort into actually making gold, and one thing i noticed that on my server (frostmourne), its more lucrative to sell raw herbs than it is to make flasks.

Is this just a general thing while we are in a bit of a raid lull? Will it pick up again once the new raid hits? And is this typical for expacs, in the middle of raid tiers flasks and pots drop dramatically in price?

Edit: For example - Potion de bataille d’Agilité sells for 218 per pot on my realm. Rivebulbe sells for 13g per 1 and Pollen de sirène sells for 16g per 1. So River bud is 130g per pot and Sirens is 128g. So mats are 258 per pot

If you really want to make money (which already looks like those numbers are indeed profitable from procs. You need to wait for times when the herb market lags behind the pots market.

This is where you can make good temporary profits. Also known as arbitrage. Good examples are buying herbs during afternoons (when people don’t demand them) and selling the pots at night when people raid log and need pots for progression. Also stocking up on massive amounts of herbs on the weekend to sell for raid nights is another source of making solid income in alchemy. This takes a bit more tracking of prices and trends so you don’t get caught with your pants down.

TSM4 Operations & Imports

Sheyrah of xionikandsheyrah has surfaced from a slumber with an excellent new video on tackling how to approach Operations in TSM4. While version 4 introduced a lot of beginner-friendly and out-of-the-box functionality, the next step in utilising TSM4 to its full potential is designing 'rules' in the form of Operations that are specific to you, your play style, markets and server.

Importing a public profile for TSM can be recommended to a certain degree, and I don't think it's necessarily a 'bad' thing to do, however I would list some caveats and disclaimers when making that kind of suggestion. Often times those who are looking to import a 'quick and easy' setup haven't spent any time with the addon before, it's very important to have a grasp of the fundamentals of TSM, or any addon for that matter. If you were to import something without any further context as to the decisions that went in to the structure of the groups or the reasoning behind the posting and shopping 'rules', you might be left in one of the following situations:

None of my items are posting when I want them to!
I feel like I'm posting way too many items!
These items are being posted too high, nobody will buy them!
Something got posted for a low price and it sold before I could do anything!

When public profiles are designed and published, they're usually made to be very conservative and cover as many philosophical approaches to the Auction House possible. There will be occasions though when something doesn't happen as you expect and you'd need to be able to have a response or reason and understand how to resolve the situations outlined above by adjusting your operations to suit your specific preferences. TSM4 exposes a host of pricing data and non-monetary values that can all be referenced to cover any requirement you might have before something is purchased, posted or crafted. Sheyrah goes through an overview of some of the things you can do to make your own Operations in TradeSkillMaster.

It's even more important to understand the basics, now that Sheyrah is no longer updating her public profile mentioned earlier. It's still a brilliant starting point and now perhaps even better, as it encourages the exploration and education on how to generate new groups and operations to 'top-up' to current expansion and continue building on top of it in the future.

TSM Imports
For all the preaching on learning about Operations, sometimes certain tasks or requests simply cannot be done by hand or at least not in any reasonable amount of time. Items have a 'base' version, then a string of 'bonus IDs' that then determine every additional aspect of things like ilvl, level requirement, secondary stat distribution, whether there is a socket, warforge/titanforge. There's certainly a structure to them but it's practically impossible to manually review what ID does what and then start generating item strings based on any possible variation. That's where BilisOnyxia comes in through a series of magic spells and technological prowess, they have made available an import for items that drop in the upcoming raid Battle for Dazar'Alor, Uldir and World Drop BoEs in all possible variations and combinations. Here's an example of an item that you probably will never see in-game:

A while ago I made a post where I shared import strings for all level 120 epic BfA World Drop and Uldir raid BoEs.

With the Battle of Dazar'Alor raid opening in a few weeks, there will be a lot more new BoEs and Blizzard will also increase the maximum itemlevel of the existing BoEs, so I figured I should probably provide import strings for all the new items and variations as well.

I am not entirely sure whether the maximum itemlevel for world drop BoEs will be increased (and if so, whether this also effects weapons which are currently capped at i360), so I did not update my world BoEs import string yet. If any of you have information on this, let me know.

I did, however, update my Uldir BoEs import string to include all possible variations up to ilvl 425 (the group now contains 4320 items, up from 2400).

I also created an import string for all 2700 variations of the 9 new Battle for Dazar'Alor BoEs.

Here are the import strings:
All BfA World Drop BoEs (2780 items, not updated today)
All Uldir BoEs (4320 items)
All Dazar'Alor BoEs (2700 items)

Since these import strings are rather big, you can expect your game to freeze for a little bit when you paste the string into the import textbox of TSM. That's perfectly normal, just give it some time.

I'd also like to note that you generally don't actually need to have all variations grouped, but now you have the option if you want to.

Hope these import strings are useful to at least some of you.
