Preparation for the ChallengeGreetings friends, my name is HeadyAF; and being the spontaneous, sweaty nerd that I am – I decided one hour before the release of Shadowlands that I was going to bore myself to tears and level all classes to 60, seeing as there is little else to do for the first week. While on Discord with my friends Sadlylate and Pilav they taunted me into the challenge of leveling all classes to 60 – I was planning on doing this prior to them poking fun -- but I thought to myself, “Why not?”
Setting myself up to complete this quest I realized I need some IRL buffs to boost me through this challenge. Mixing pre-work out powder with energy drinks and a load of caffeine pills, I decided to start my journey.
I entered this challenge with ZERO preparation, the only reason I decided to attempt this task was that I already had 12 level 50 characters on the realm because I am what they call a “flavour of the month” player.
I did not take the fastest route on leveling (playing Horde with 10% War Mode experience as opposed to 30% Alliance) and pathetically geared characters, but what I lacked in gear and ease of leveling, I made up for in time and motivation. 165 HOURS of near constant leveling time with a couple of naps to make sure I avoided visiting a spirit healer in real life.
What class was the most/least enjoyable?Demon Hunter was the most enjoyable for me – leveling as Havoc. The mobility and survivability of the class coupled with the ability to fly in the Maw is an awesome bonus, and
Gangrelame was a huge advantage for tagging mobs easily. I could pull as many mobs as I desired without worrying about dying, however single target fighting, i.e. a boss fight was a lot more challenging as single target damage is not the best.
My least favourite class was Death Knight. It was my first time playing Unholy spec and having a low item level coupled with zero prior experience with the spec made the leveling more challenging than other classes.
What was your fastest leveling time? Elemental Shaman was the fastest class I leveled – having a tanking pet made it much easier. It was also the last character I leveled so I had that second wind of motivation to really push through and get it done as fast as I possibly could.
In terms of fastest leveling aside from motivation and speed, I would say Fury Warrior was the quickest. Double
Bond héroïque (PvP Talent),
Pisto-bottes and
Kit de planeur gobelins make things to extremely fast. In areas such as Maldraxxus you would be able to climb high ground and glide around maps to reach your destination.
Any useful tips and tricks? If your item level is above 100-110,
Threads of Fate is a good mode to go level your class. Because Threads of Fate does not reward you a lot of gear, world events go slowly and are not worth the effort.
If you’re going to level solo, a class with self-heals is a HUGE bonus. Allowing you to solo “Qanted” quests and small world bosses while having less than optimal gear is an advantage.
If you want to level fast and not do it solo – get a friend to team up with. Stick to campaign quests and once you reach Ardenweald, do side quests in Glitterfall Basin --you will reach 60 before completing all campaign quests. If you want to be extra – Stack up on consumables like
Pisto-bottes,
Kit de planeur gobelin, and
Potion de soins abyssale.
Potion de pied léger are also good for The Maw at level 50, as they still have use.
What do you plan to do next time in game?I am waiting for Mythic+ to open up. My goal is to become a top 100 player in whichever class I settle on playing. Right now, I think I will play Demon Hunter Tank. Although I leveled on Horde, I might go full sweat-mode and level up 12 more classes– but this time on Alliance where I actually have characters with gear and I can enjoy that 30% War Mode experience bonus.
