The 3 Venthyr Soulbinds have become available for testing, and so we've gotten a chance to learn exactly how Soulbinds and Conduits will work in
Shadowlands
. We'll be using Nadjia the Mistblade in our example below, but don't forget to check out our Soulbind Calculator to preview all 12 of the Soulbind options available across the four different Covenants.

Choosing Traits
We don't yet know exactly how hard each trait will be to unlock, but we do know that
cannot unlock all the Traits in a Soulbind
and that you'll have to make some difficult decisions on which paths and traits to take.
You'll start by activating Soulbind traits at the top and working your way down.
For Covenants that have multiple traits at the top, you'll have to choose between activating either of them and then activate the nodes along your chosen path.
After activating the first trait, you'll have to follow your chosen path, activating more Traits and Conduit slots along the way.
When you get to a fork, you now have an option of picking which direction you want to go.
Nadjia the Mistblade
Nadjia's Soulbind can be broken down into two sets of choices for a total of 6 different paths:
Trait #1 and #2
:
Choose one of the following
Agent du chaos
& Potency (Thoroughput) Conduit
Joli jeu de jambes
& Endurance (Defensive) Conduit
Trait #3
: Finesse (Utility) Conduit
Trait #4
:
Amis des bas-fonds
Trait #5 and #6
:
Choose one of the following
Finesse Conduit and
Mise au point des préparatifs
Potency Conduit and
Embarras habituels
Endurance Conduit and
Duelliste déterminé
Trait #7
: Potency Conduit
Trait #8
:
Sensations fortes
Given these choices, every Nadjia Soulbind will consist of 8 activated traits, with two places to make a choice on which path you wish to take. You'll make this choice depending on which traits and linked Conduit slots you want to activate. Since Conduit slots have types (Potency, Finesse, and Endurance), it won't be enough to simply weigh the Soulbind traits against one another, you'll need to compare the bundle of all traits and the different potential Conduits slotted along each path against each other.
Conduits
Conduits are very similar to gems and Legion Relics, providing various powerful bonuses. Most are still merely placeholder, but we've
datamined many Conduit effects
already. One thing to note is that Conduits are
spec specific
Each Soulbind tree contains three types of Conduit sockets:
Potency
- Throughput bonuses
Finesse
- Utility bonuses
Endurance
- Defensive bonuses
Here are some of the other current things we've learned regarding Conduits:
Conduits can be replaced but the old Conduit will be permanently destroyed
.
Socketed Conduits remain even when swapping specs.
Conduits of the same type do not currently stack - tested using
Tréfonds de la folie
.
You can only socket the same type of Conduit in the same type of socket (Potency in Potency, etc).
Conduits can be placed in sockets that are not currently active. It will remain there until replaced and can activate if the socket is activated in the future.
We don't know exactly how Conduits will be found either, though we've been told they
won't be awarded exactly like relics
which competed with drops on loot tables, so you'll only want to change your Conduits only when you really need to!
If you play multiple specs on a class, you may have to dedicated different Soulbinds or paths for each spec unless you want to replace your Conduits often. However, since you're able to swap Soulbinds easily and reset your active traits, you can socket Conduits along different paths and swap to activate them when you need them or when you swap specs!
Changing a Soulbind
Changing a Soulbind is much easier than changing covenants and
Covenants can be swapped anywhere
. The expansion UI (which also tracks Adventure Missions and Calling Quests) allows you to click to the Soulbind which you wish to use in order to activate the one you want! While you are able to swap your Covenant at any location, you are not able to activate new nodes or socket any Conduits while not at the Forge of Bonds.
Socketed Conduits remain even when a Soulbind isn't active, which should make it much easier for players to hot swap between Covenants depending on the situation (or bonuses) they wish to use at the time, such as having one for an AoE encounter or Mythic dungeon and another for single target raid bosses.
Note that in our testing, the entire Soulbind tree is unlocked, so we don't know exactly how traits will be unlocked across different Soulbinds.
Resetting a Soulbind
Resetting the progression of a Soulbind can be done at the click of a button as well. The price appears to be quite cheap (but we're not sure if this will go live), currently requiring 1
Anima du réservoir
to reset the bonuses you've allocated. Any socketed Conduits will remain so that they aren't lost in the process, but they will go inactive until you reactivate that node again.
