The Plunderstorm rewards include Trader's Tender, mounts and transmogs and many players are looking to get these rewards! Here's how Renown works and some tips on how to do it quickly!
How to Gain Plunderstorm Renown
There are two ways of gaining the Plunderstorm Renown, Keg Leg's Crew: through Quests and by collecting Plunder in game. There are two types of quests in Plunderstorm: Daily Quests and Captain's Orders.
Plunder is turned into reputation at a 1:1 rate.
If you're after reputation, the only thing you care about is Plunder. Get that Gold!
Captain's Orders - Match Quests
Every game, the second you hit the ground for the first time, you will receive one of six quests:
Ordres du capitaine : récupération de coffre
Ordres du capitaine : inondation et pillage
Ordres du capitaine : razzia meurtrière
Ordres du capitaine : pas de corps, pas d’or
Ordres du capitaine : étude des pillages
Ordres du capitaine : un X marque l’emplacement
Completing this quest will give you
250 Plunder.
Daily Quests
Once per day at the normal reset hour for your region, you will get a quest to complete any Captain's Order.
Completing this once a day will give you
800 Plunder.
Collecting Plunder in Game
The final way to get Plunder is by finding it in game. Plunder looks like gold piles on the ground and generally drops in piles of 6-7 on the ground and from normal mobs, with special Golden Plunder chests giving ~20 and special piles near elites given ~20. Kills only seem to drop ~20 as well, leaving the best way to farm Plunder being killing as many PvE mobs as you can and avoiding fights against other players.
Farming Renown Tips and Tricks
If you're looking to Farm Renown, here are some tips and tricks for farming Renown quickly!
Play Duos with a Friend
Playing with a friend means that you get the Plunder that they pick up as well. It's unclear if it's all of their Plunder or just a portion, but it's double the farming power for the game amount of game.
Avoid PvP Fights
PvP fights are a waste of time in this mode. Getting a kill is difficult and awards almost no bonus Plunder, especially compared to what you could've gotten during that time. Engaging in PvP fights also slows down your experience gain, making you kill things slower in the future, also reducing your Plunder gains.
Get Farming Skills
The faster you kill things, the more Plunder you can get!
Tourbillon de feu
is a standout, but also large AoE abilities like
Archonte des tempêtes
,
Sphère de mana
and even
Bombe d’étoiles
are great abilities, even if they're not good for PvP.
Complete the Captain's Orders
The Match Quests are usually very easy and quick to complete and award a large chunk of Plunder for the time it takes to complete.
Complete the Daily Quest
Try to log in every day to get a bonus 800 Plunder for completing your first Match Quest.
Don't Worry About Winning
All that matters for Renown farming is the Plunder you pick up. Completing the Match Quest is the best bang for your buck in terms of time commitment with PvE'ing mobs a second. You can win with almost no Plunder, and that will take 15+ minutes for almost no reputation.
Conclusion
The best way to farm Plunder is to complete the Captain's Quest every game and PvE your heart out. Once the area looks clear of mobs to kill and things to farm, you should die to the Storm, or run into enemies and let them kill you and go again. Even then, this is still a large time investment, especially for a limited time mode.
Unlike other games, there is no bonus Plunder for surviving, kills, resurrections, match placement or Weekly challenges. As such, the only that that matters when going for experience (Plunder) in this game is to play the game and PvE your heart out. This leaves players with a little bit of a problem, choose to try to win or choose to try to farm reputation much more quickly.
Possible Improvements
The best way to reputation farm right now is to completely ignore the main point of the game -- winning. It's faster to die after completing the Match quest because there is no incentive to place well or even survive. This would be okay if this strategy was only slightly more efficient, but it's massively more efficient. You can win the game and get less than 500 reputation which makes players having to choose between getting reputation or trying to win.
Comparing a couple of Battle Royale Games and how they award experience:
Apex Legends
: Time Survived, Kills, Damage Done (to other players), Revives, Respawns, Killed Champion, Kill Leader, Playing with Friends, First Kill of the Day, Daily Challenges, Weekly Challenges
Fortnite
: Looting, Kills, Knocks, Surviving Each Ring Closing, Various Battle Medals (e.g. looting X chests, killing X players, reaching top X, dealing damage), Daily Challenge, Weekly Challenges, Playing with Friends
WoW
: Looting, Kills, Playing with Friends, Daily Challenge, Match Challenge
This game mode doesn't seem exactly fair for experience gains, and the time commitment to get all the rewards is quite high. And with a limited time event, maximizing your gains is going to take priority for a lot of people. I suspect many people will soon optimize the fun out of the game mode and start to detest something that is very unique to WoW, similar to Torghast.
I personally think the most important thing to add is additional experience that scales the longer you survive in a match and a bonus amount of experience for hitting certain placements. You shouldn't feel like winning was a waste of time for reputation, that doesn't feel good.
I think additional bonuses for damage done and kills to enemy players (and experience) would also benefit the game mode as that would make fighting enemy players not feel like a waste of time for reputation farming (or even if your goal is winning).
