Why is this so expensive on the auction house? Around 50'000 gold. You need 8 of these for a 36 slot bag which most people already have. This can't be true. Does it not drop by skinning mobs?

I get it's the start of the expansion but other materials are not that expensive.

Ouch, such a disgustingly low drop rate.
Auctions are pushing these for 75k a pop for an "uncommon" item. Need like 10 of them to make green quality stuff.
This has to be adjusted. Some professions will simply halt in progress until it is fixed.
Imho, hot fix asap.

Where do these even come from? I know "furred" creatures, but any of them? Or is there a particular animal?

EDIT: Looks like they fix it according to rapidly loosing price on AH and more and more of them in AH overall

EDIT 04.3.2026 AFTER RESET FOR EU uncommon stuff start drops even from non High-value Beast (for example Hawkstrider: Peerless Plumage farmed tons of them now from non H-V Beasts)

For those looking for the most efficient way to farm Fourrure fantastique. I've tested this method myself and it worked perfectly. It all comes down to your Skinning Specialization.

When choosing, start with Gainful Gathering, then Trophy Taker

The Gainful Gathering tree focuses on species-specific drops such as:
Fourrure fantastique (from furred beasts)
Plumage incomparable
Canine tranchante

This specialization improves your ability to collect those unique materials instead of just leather or scales.

Why this works:

Fourrure fantastique is a species-specific reagent that drops from furred creatures when skinned.
The Gainful Gathering tree boosts the chances and efficiency of obtaining those kinds of materials.

Recommended approach:

Unlock Gainful Gathering first.
Invest 10 points into Gainful Gathering.

Now the most important part.
Invest your points into Trophy Taker (recommend investing all). This is because Perception allows for better chance at rare materials.
Species-specific trophies > Farm fur-type mobs such as stags, wolves, bears and similar beasts.

Overall:
Gainful Gathering is the specialization that helps you get Fourrure fantastique.
