Artifacts in Battle for Azeroth
As of June 26th, completing the quest
Tout ce qui est en notre pouvoir
will further empower your Artifact Weapon, enabling all traits and at least
Accord du Déclin
level 75, further increasing in power over time until the Battle for Azeroth pre-expansion patch.
Therefore, only the Netherlight Crucible recommendations are relevant on this guide page leading up to BFA, as you already receive all Artifact Traits by default. This makes content easier to complete, especially some
content going away
such as
Ahead of the Curve
and
Mage Tower Challenges
.
In the
BFA pre-patch
, your Artifact Traits will be removed, and relics will simply increase the item level of your artifact weapon. However, many artifact traits are returning as talents or azerite powers in Battle for Azeroth and we have a compiled a
full list you can read here
.
Moving forward in Battle for Azeroth, you will still be able to acquire the Artifact Weapon which will mainly interest transmog collectors for the appearances. Learn how to unlock all appearances in BFA with our
Artifact Appearance Guide
.
Active Ability
Equipping the Twinblades of the Deceiver grants you the ability
Fureur des Illidari
, which causes you to throw your Warglaives into a whirlwind of energy, dealing massive damage to all enemies around you over 3 seconds.
Netherlight Crucible / Relic Recommendation
The
Netherlight Crucible
is a new system added in Patch 7.3. The Crucible allows you further empower your Havoc Demon Hunter Artifact Weapon, by specializing and increasing the power from your relics. With it, each relic receives a small talent tree that you can select new traits from, depending how many traits your weapon have. Do not worry, however, because with the changes to
Artifact Knowledge
, unlocking the full power of the Crucible won't take long. Learn everything about this new system in our
Netherlight Crucible Guide
. With the opening of
Antorus, le Trône ardent
, it is now possible to obtain
Insigne de la grande armée
, which increases the potency of your Tier 2 Crucible traits by 50%. It might be a really strong legendary if you are lucky with Netherlight Crucible rolls!

Empowered Traits
New traits explanation
isn't the most amazing trait but it is surely not unwanted either. Reducing the cost of Eye Beam is mostly welcome because it allows us to spend more time spamming Chaos Strike and get all the benefits that comes from spamming that spell. Important note is that prior to having 2/4 points into Wide Eyes, Eye Beam is generally not worth casting on pure single target scenarios. Once you have 2/4 points in the trait however Eye Beam becomes worth to use on single target situations again. This doesn't mean that you should stop holding Eye Beam for AoE in the near future.
is a pretty straight forward trait, when Blade Dance crits instead of doing 100% more damage it does 120% more damage. The trait alone is a mediocre damage increase but when paired with First Blood we start getting somewhere really interesting.
is where all the fun begins! A 10% chance for Chaos Strike and Annihilation to slash an additional time, this is amazing! But wait, their's more! The extra slash is actually a free and instant
cast
. The word
cast
is really important here because it means that the Onslaught can trigger everything that a normal Chaos Strike cast does... Inner Demons, Demonic Appetite, a Onslaught critical strike will refund 20 fury and it can also proc itself!
Recommended Havoc Demon Hunter Artifact trait path
For a bit more math behind the reason why we use this path you can refer to
this spreadsheet
that lists the DPS gain provided by each 7.2 traits as well as the gain from 3/4 to 4/4 from the 7.0 traits
Original Artifact Trait Path
We start by going out of our way to pick up Sharpened Glaives and Balanced Blades as they are very strong traits that are especially relevant for leveling. After that, Rage of the Illidari is the strongest major trait so we head for it first. We pick up Unleashed Demons (another great trait) and Demon Speed on the way.
After that, we head for Anguish of the Deceiver through Critical Chaos (best trait) and Chaos Vision. At this point we've picked up almost all of the damage traits in the artifact tree.
We head for Inner Demons next, being a little better value on Demon Rage for single target (and much better on multi). The traits on the way there are not great so we just take the shortest path.
Grab the last remaining damage traits.
And finally, we grab Underwhelming Power to complete the Havoc Demon Hunter artifact.
