After the latest tuning buffs, the Patch 10.1.5 Megadungeon is pretty hard and has raid-like mechanics. If you liked 10 man raid content, you will probably like the current tuning of this dungeon which feels like 5 man progression raid content. Here's a preview of the first 4 encounters.
Introduction and General Thoughts
In this week's Patch 10.1.5 PTR build, the Dawn of the Infinites dungeon received some massive tuning buffs, increasing the health and damage of all bosses. As mentioned in the
For Azeroth interview
, Blizzard is baking the Hard Modes right into the base encounters, which meant that these tuning buffs needed to happen in order to make the dungeon now a complete face roll.
From personal experience, with the exception of a couple overtuned abilities, this dungeon had a feeling similar to old 10 man raiding -- small group progression content, and the encounters felt
incredibly
well tuned for 425 item level. The PTR scales all players to 425 item level, but I believe that most players will be ~440 item level on live making the throughput checks much easier. That being said, each of the bosses has mechanics that you can't really ignore and while more dps/hps will help, not doing the mechanics will still wipe you. The bosses themselves have some very "raid-like" mechanics requiring movement as a group, long phases and general communication mechanics making this a really enjoyable experience!
Below I'll provide a preview of the first four encounters post-buff, with some personal opinions on each encounter.
1st Boss -
Chronikar
This boss is a great intro to the difficulty of the raid. It has simple mechanics, but ignoring the mechanics will wipe the party.
One of the main mechanics is
Pisotón de arena
which deals 425k damage to all players in a circle around them and leaves poop on the floor. Considering this 75% of your health, if you take a single tick from the poop on the ground or cleave another player, you will die. This poop also seems to last forever meaning you need to place this correctly.
The second main mechanic is
Destrozo de eón
which leaps onto 3 locations in order. Whenever the leaps occur, all players will take 150k damage and projectiles will fire out from the impact location dealing 530k (essentially a one-shot). At least one player will have to dodge through the projectiles into the impact location where they will need to catch a soak. If the soak isn't caught, the party will explode.
The last mechanic that affects your tank and healer is
Cronocorte
a 2.8
million
absorb shield on your tank. While the absorb shield holds, the tank takes 7x damage making this VERY deadly for your tank. 2.8 million is a massive shield that may be unintended as Blizzard tripled the base value of the shield AND the scaling modifier of the shield in the last build, so it's currently double dipping.
Here's a short clip of the boss fight.
2nd Boss -
Manifested Timeways
This boss is a beast with 62 million health leading to a 5+ minute encounter. Ranged may struggle with the constant movement, and healer may struggle if players are planting instead of focusing on reduced damage taken.
This boss has a very unique mechanic:
Tiempo en descomposición
and
Acelerando el tiempo
. These segments rotate around the room and have different effects on the abilities.
Tiempo en descomposición
is represented by the darker brown segments on the ground.
Acelerando el tiempo
is represented by the lighter brown segments on the ground. Players will take 3 times as much damage while in this zone than the other.
While trying to stay in the slow zone as much as possible, there are 3 other mechanics:
Fragmentos de tiempo
will fire out orbs from the boss in a spiral pattern. Orbs that are in the fast time zone will travel much faster than orbs in the slow time zone. Players must use the rotating time zones to weave between the Orbs.
Cronoborrado
is a debuff that is put on 2 players. When dispelled, if the player is in a fast time zone, a ring will travel at near instant speed dealing 1 tick of damage to all players. If the player is in a slow zone, a ring will travel at a snail's pace meaning players will take multiple ticks when crossing over it. Having one person get dispelled in the fast time zone, then letting the other expire in the fast time zone seemed to be the best solution.
Volver atrás
is a frontal cone on the tank which hits twice. If the target is in slow time zone when it hits, it will strike twice with a large delay between them. If not, it will happen almost instantaneously.
This fight is an endurance fight. With constantly ticking damage, the constant movement, and coordination of who should dispel the debuffs (and when), this fight is all about staying cool and doing the mechanics over and over again, killing the boss before your healer runs out of mana. It's a crazy fight.
Here's a short clip of the boss fight.
3rd Boss -
Añublo de Galakrond
The Blight of Galakrond might be the easiest boss in the first half with enough coordination on your group. It's has a lot of damage, meaning your healer will have to be on their toes.
The main mechanic is
Corrosión
. This debuff does 300k damage right away, and ticks for 85k every second and lasts for 12 seconds. If it expires, the target is MC'ed for 45 seconds, leading to their death or a wipe. However, this debuff can be passed to another target by touching them to reset the timer. The only way to get rid of
Corrosión
is to have the player with the debuff hit by the frontal cone
Reclamación de añublo
.
Phase 1 lasts until 80% and in this phase, you can immediately pass
Corrosión
to the tank because the
Reclamación de añublo
happens very quick.
Phase 2 lasts from 80% to 50% and in this phase, you have to pass it at least once before putting it on your tank because the
Reclamación de añublo
happens a lot later. While holding the debuff, the boss will cast
Vientos necróticos
dealing AoE damage to the party and the healer will need to heal the party and the target affected by
Corrosión
.
Phase 3 lasts from 50% to dead and is actually much easier than phase 2.
Here's the entire boss fight.
4th Boss -
Iridikron
Iridikron
is the end-boss of the 1st half of the instance and feels like a step up from the rest. Mechanically, this fight flows like a raid boss with around 2 minute phase cycles, and a final stand mechanic at the end. He has a total health pool of about 78 million health, intermission phases with shields of 21 million health, and a final stand with about 24 million health. He's a beefy boss.
Initial Phase
In order to defeat the initial Phase of the encounter, you need to deal enough damage to fill up his energy bar which will account for about 78 million health. The flow of Phase 1 repeats in cycles:
Explosión de extinción
>
Tromba partepiedras
>
Terraluvión
>
Exhalación pulverizadora
> Repeat
Here's the flow of the fight:
Iridikron starts off by casting
Explosión de extinción
and the targeted player must place themselves inside Chromie's bubble to survive. This player will take 40k damage every second for 15 seconds afterwards.
Iridikron will then cast
Tromba partepiedras
. The tank must stand in the front swirly to eat the brunt of the attack, and the remaining players must help soak the remainder of the attack with Chromie.
After this, Chromie will buff the party with
Aceleración de línea temporal
giving players a 50% haste buff.
Shortly after Iridikron puts up
Terraluvión
, a 21 million health shield, dealing damage every 6 seconds while it's active. Every tick increases the damage done by another 25%.
During this time, a random player will be targeted sending out spikes in a star pattern aimed at their location. If all players are stacked on one side of the side of the safe zone, the group can and should move together to make the movement predicable and allow your healer to group heal more easily.
Towards the end of the phase, this damage does about 450k damage per tick with the damage that we had on the PTR before we broke the shield. This should be much easier to break on live servers but your healer should use CDs and players should use defensives.
After you break the shield, he'll cast
Exhalación pulverizadora
shortly after with a bad circle under him, a cone targeted on a player and a smaller circle around each player. When this expires, each circle will summon an add on them that needs to be interrupted and AoE CC'ed.
If a single cast goes off this player is affected by
Descarga de piedra
dealing 64k every second for 12 seconds which is a lot of damage.
Here's one rotation of Phase 1:
Final Stand
After filling up his energy bar, you enter Iridikron's final stand, he does no other mechanics and casts
Desintegración cataclísmica
for 30 seconds dealing 100k damage per second to all players. During this time, all players have 100% bonus damage, 100% haste, 50% increased cooldown rate and 50% increased resource regeneration rate by standing in her bubble.
Players must deal ~24 million damage to the boss to end his final stand, depleting his energy and winning the encounter!
Conclusion and Thoughts
Players have been wanting small group progression content similar to 10 man raiding for a while and I think this is a step in the right direction. The dungeon felt well tuned for 425 item level on the PTR, which unfortunately makes me think that this dungeon will be smoked on live servers as I expect most of the players who attempt this dungeon will be around 440 item level due to the upgrade system -- which is slightly disappointing. I personally wish that for a short period of time, Blizzard will implement an item level cap for the dungeon so that players can't overgear the content similar to what Destiny 2 does, as that would allow players who are looking for that "5 man progression content" at the levels that Mythic+ dungeons don't seem to provide.
These dungeons are more complex, and feel like raid fights and I think that's awesome. I look forward to doing this on live, especially when trying to do it flawlessly for the
Immortal Achievement and reward
.
