Summer Game Fest 2021
has begun! The all-digital video game expo kick off event featured first look world premieres, special guests, and musical performances by Weezer, Japanese Breakfast, and the Sonic Symphony Orchestra. Among them, Blizzard Entertainment had a special announcement from Overwatch 2, showcasing brand new hero models for Baptiste and Sombra.

Ovewatch 2 game director Aaron Keller joined Game Fest host Geoff Keighley to briefly talk about the upcoming sequel, reiterating the decision to drastically update the game format with a 5v5 format, necessitating a fresh look at all the heroes. Blizzard recently shared their
Environment States game engine update
, but heroes are also getting updates, such as improved hair shader tech for their brand new models.
Blizzard is one of around 35 major industry attendees at Game Fest 2021, and while we
previously speculated
that the
encrypted Sapphire Skyblazer and Fireplume Phoenix mounts
first datamined on the 9.0.5 PTR might be an associated promotion, given their theme and promotion source tag, though it doesn't appear to be the case - at least not yet! There's still a lot left to see over the multi-week digital expo, with plenty of time for surprises!
